A/N: I dunno if I've got any desi/brown/poc readers but if you're reading this I love you so much and you (us) deserve the same validation and representation others get.
Here's a blurb as to what it feels like celebrating Eid with Harry! Enjoy!
Warning: none — just loads of fluff.
More Inspos, Masterlist, Let's Talk
Tumblr media
The night's pretty with murky clouds and thick layer of moon's brightness as Y/N cleans her flat, from scrubbing her Persian rugs to deep cleansing her vases back from her homeland. The flame evaporating from her candles scented like springs of Kashmir, flickers from her blowing sheer curtains due to the zephyr flurring outside.
She feels content, at peace waiting for Harry who promised that he'll be at her place by 11. He always comes an hour early helping her in setting the table before the iftari, they've been doing it together since the start of ramdan until today when he texted her he's busy along with a sad smiley.
It was fun. He fasted with her once or twice and would make sure she's hydrated enough once they break it, his love for rooh-afzah (it's a drink red in color made from essence of roses and some sweet herbs) will never fail to make her giggle as he'd demand for more after gulping two glasses already.
Then showing her his tummy along with his food pregnant jokes.
Her classes are online so it gave her time to experiment some cooking. They'd make samosas together and she always had an urge to hold back her cooes as his tongue used to poke out in concentration everytime his diligent fingers folded the samosa sheets skillfully.
"Did a pretty go'job here, innit?" He'd grin raising it like a summat trophy.
The moment he used to leave her flat (ofcourse after giving a tight hug before doing so) they both missed eachother terribly, y/n doesn't like the way her home falls into an abyss without his presence.
He's like a sunshine that warms her insides up.
The whistle of kettle and several raps of knocks on her door drags her from her fond memories of them together, she slings her feet down from the coffee table rushing to open it.
"Angel."
Harry says breathlessly prolly because he climbed three flight of stairs to get to her or that he's utterly flustered.
Her eyes remain struck at the thingies piled in his arms, a box of chocolates, many brown bags and stems of freshly blood ripped roses tucked between his knuckles.
He bought all of these gifts for her.
To make her feel like home.
To be her home.
What the fuck, nobody has ever done that for her —-- she just mighty cry.
Her mouths gupples like a fish too overwhelmed to react her emotions out and he gives her a sweet smile kicking the door shut with his feet -- gestures her to wait when she almost jumps like a cub to hug him and puts everything on the sofa knowing the things inside them's too delicate.
"C'mere, baby." He grins and she doesn't waste a moment falling in his embrace. Her cheeks smashes against his taught chest and she fists the hem of his shirt smiling too hard for her own sake as he sways them with his own rosy cheek squished against her temple.
"I love you so much, thank you." She murmurs gazing up at him with glinting eyes -- arms still lopped around his waist and his chin doubles adorably as he gives her his signature bunny grin kissing the tip of her nose, "Love you too bubba ... don't want ya homesick, at alllll."
The aggressive whistle of kettle parts them away, "Cuppa cha? Then we'll unwrap these pleasanteris." She points at the paper bags.
He nods flopping onto the floor cushions beside the large oak window of the balcony where they could bathe in moonlight.
"Thank you." He quips, kissing her fingertips while slipping his fingers under the handle of mug and takes it from her as she sits infront of him. He admires her for a second —- fawning over how she's looking so soft and cuddle-able wearing a baggy mauve kurta and some mismatched shalwar.
The tearing open of the stuffing tissue brings him back to focus --- this, he wanted to see this happiness dance over her features as she clutches the ethnic traditional dress he bought for her infront of her and when lifts it down he's met by overly excited eyes.
It's ethereal with golden details, handmade wire work and sheer fabric.
"It's gorgeous, pups." She squeezes his hand and he takes the sip of his cha smiling against the rim of the mug shyly, "Wasn't s' sure -- Sarah helped me in collecting stuff." Sarah's Y/N's bestfriend who was the only desi/brown in her filming class.
"No wonder she was being a lil sneak." Y/N chuckles already rummaging for what comes next.
He wanted to make sure he gets her everything they do traditionally in her culture and ate Sara's ears off to help him buy the most special thing and it's right there creating sweet noise when they touch eachother, dangling from her fingers.
"Churiyan .... " She whispers bitting down a smile. She loves glass bangles. Their colourfulness cheers her mood up and she'd always go with her Nani a night prior eid to select the most flamboyant pair of them from a bazar (market).
"This -— " She gestures to the gifts scattered around them, " —-- all of this and you, means alot to me." She sighs giving him a wet smile and he smoothes his thumb against her cheek like she's the most fragile thing to exist.
He watches her in a tad confusion when she stands up with a giggly squeal putting everything away and comes back with a tube of henna in her hand.
"It's chand raat t'night 'cos tommorrow is eid -- usually I spend it with Sarah and we apply henna to eachother, we're horrible at it honestly but now she isn't here 'm gonna bite yours ears —-" He cuts her off. Ushering her to sit back on her spot. He couldn't be more glad to spend all of his time with her whether it's just watching her make designs on her hand with henna.
"Your cha's waftin'." He shakes his head bringing it to her lips, "It's hot." She tells him drawing a circle on her palm and filling it with beautiful darkness of henna.
"Okie then ... " He blows at the hot beverage to cool it down and again brings it to her lips, "Now." He croons softly to her. She holds his wrist taking a sip from it -- he tucks the strand of her hair back and she smiles up at him making him chuckle when she takes a huge sigh as if her soul just woke up.
"What do we d'tommorrow?" He asks. Knowing most of the time they went to Zayn's house on Eids his mother used to fill the whole table with delicious dishes and the whole day was spent having fun.
"We do nothing but have loads of nice time -- I already made a dessert 'cos I know I'll be too lazy in the mornin', and invited your friends if that's okay?" She glances up at him done with her left palm.
"Perfect then," He nods, "D'ya need help with the other one?" He asks grabbing her right hand and the tube of henna from her.
"Yes, please." She shows him her hand covered with with henna and since it's wet she could do one thing wait or let him do it. The second options sounds more good.
"Not on me if it gets messed up." He warns her nonchalantly following the same pattern of her left hand. Stealing glances of her attractive face every now and then, dotting her moles with his intense gaze, he just thinks her brown eyes look more intricate – it's specks as if the forests soil on the first rains when they dilate with her racing heartbeat.
They're like an open book to him and at the same time mysteriously dark that he feels like burning a match to melt in them.
"You did it way better than me," She snorts examining it closely and turns the other way round to lay down on the carpeted floor and rest her head in his lap. He wipes his own hands watching the dark henna leaving a swipe of color on his fingertips.
He pets her hair, dimples milking into his cheeks when she raises her both hands infront of him -- blocking the moonlight that's falling on her, "When I was small I always used to end up getting it on my face and lemme tell ya. Having a yellow blotch isn't even a tiny bit fascinating on the only day you could dress up fancy."
His chest rumbles with giggles and he brings her hands closer to her lips blowing raspberries at them to get them dry early.
Comfortable silence envelopes them in to the point where they could hear crickets singing outside and moonlight sparkling on their skin —- she breaks it cuddling up into his chest.
"I really appreciate this, Harry." Her voice hushed whisper and her cherry stained lips couldn't resist but to patch kisses where his heart lays and she could sense it kicking a pace, "The fact that you did so much just for me -- is beyond my thought. I really feel like home." He let her speak. Squeezing her shoulders to convey the fierceness of his emotions he holds for her. His silken lips pressed to her temple and his eyelids flutters with each spurt of breath she inhales.
"I'll keep making you feel like home, till the day you'll allow me." Today. He for actually felt that his home was never a building or the luxurious furniture adorned inside it, but her. It's always gonna be her.
Because the moment he gets lost in those eyes all he come across is their shared laughter, their moments spent on this balcony right outside sipping onto their chas and watching the city wake up infront of their eyes, going to places he has never been to before, doing things he never thought he'd do in hundered years —- he isn't a big fan of spices but he still pretends like a big boi infront of her while eating pani puri she's oh so obsessed with.
The times she was never embarrassed to introduce him to her community or her friends, and getting soaked into rains even though they could've just used his car, having days planned to make him try new desi dishes, going to buy candles of many scent and shapes with him but then never feeling like leaving the store until he warns her that he'll throw her on his shoulder infront of everyone.
Going to Turkish markets together. He's a bread lover and so all this time he doesn't feel like leaving the shops filled with different kiln and tandoori breads. Eating Simit and drinking black tea in the amardu cups sitting outside the cafe –- he likes it with cheese while she might sound bland she just likes a bit of butter.
Them deciding for hours and hours which Persian rug to buy -- but never buying it apologising to the shop keeper.
Giving eachother head massages from the organic rosemary Morrocon oil that one of her friend gifted her, (Y/N) thinks she's one hell of a masseuse but Harry thinks otherwise —- though he would never ever break her heart so it's better keeping it a secret.
His nose creates a purring sound while he sleeps leaning against the wall, he doesn't even remember when he fell into the deep slumber with his large hand still wrapped around her wrist in a protective manner to keep her from moving.
It's cute.
Though when she stirs to regain consciousness with the birds chirping outside she feels remorseful finding him sleeping in such an uncomfy position just because of her and he wakes up with a loud wheeze —- blinking rapidly to see what just happened only to visibly relax back when she shushes him gently.
"Baby .... shit." He grogs out, knuckling at his eyes pointing at her jaw which's covered into a orangish streak, "Don't tell me." She groans bumping her head against his bicep.
A moment later they burst into fits of hoarse giggles and chuckles. She'd try to suck in air to not to snort and would do it nonetheless driving them more into belly aching laughter.
"Eid Mubarak, I guess?" He cackles loudly. Dimple coveting in to his velvet of skin. Rubs the tip of his nose against her's affectionately and swoons her in his arms to hug her warmly.
"Now -— go 'n dress up, c'mon." He cups the nape of her neck playing with the baby hair there and she whines smushing her face against his chest, "No. Lemme sleep some more."
"Heyyy none of that, c'mon sleepy girl you'll regret it later." He boops her nose smiling down at her fondly and she grumbles mumbling something in between you're so annoying or you're being so much like my mum.
He waits for her laying on the sofa with his arms folded and eyes closed. Prolly took a mini version of nap only to perk his head up grabbing the back of sofa when she returns with wet hair, soft clean face and lips tinted cherry wearing the dress and bangles he bought for her.
An enchantress from head to toe, he wouldn't even complain if she bewitches him.
He needs someone to pinch his bum because he thinks his eyelids might have struck. He takes a dramatic breather mischievously, pupils dilated cutesly and heart shaped lips parted with the sweet loving words in praise of her beauty burning at the tip of his tongue.
His fawning gives her butterflies. Expanding her chest with warmth and she does a three-sixty when he spindles his nimble in the air demanding her to show herself from every angle.
Her head falls back. An echo of happy giggles resonating in the room when he smacks his hand against his chest and flops into heaps of sofa cushions.
"You're fuckin' beautiful, a total knockout." He walks towards her with his hands spread open and takes her's to kiss the inside of her palms, "So are you." Her voice small with shyness. He sits on her on sofa and stays beside her with his chin perched upon his knuckles staring at her like she hung the moon -- as if she's a prayer come true.
"Did you get me ready to d'nothing?" She turns towards him. The curled up fringes kissing the apples of her cheeks same as his fingertips are dying to do so.
"I might sound selfish but it was a trap to get you ready early so I could admire you till everyone squeeze between us ... " He smirks and she huffs sinking deeper into the sofa throwing her limbs in air and his breath hitches when her bangles clanks together producing a beautiful noise.
"Harry!!" She whines.
"Okie, time to fill some grumpy kitten's tummy." He announces standing up to head to kitchen and she shakes her head with a silly smile trailing behind him.
All she knows is that. This Eid she'll have the best time of her life, as she could already feel his energy and love radiating in every corner of her home.
.
@harryforvogue idk why but everytime I'd sit to write this blurb you'd pop in my mind, hope so you're not hiccuping wildly.

Tarina Tarantino Barbie OOAK  2008
I can’t believe how surreal this is for me LOL story and photos below the cut!! In 2008, jewelry designer Tarina Tarantino collaborated with Mattel to create a collection of Barbie jewelry pieces... and a Barbie Collector doll:
Tumblr media
Let me tell you, this doll was EVERYTHING to me. I was thirteen, about to be fourteen, and this doll was the only thing I wanted for my birthday, period. I spent hours just looking at her online; the fluffy, curly pink hair, the incredibly detailed jewelry, all of those amazing clothing pieces and the stunning box, her gorgeous face.. I would have died for this doll lol. To this day, she’s my favorite Barbie Collector doll ever released, and one of my favorite Barbie dolls to ever exist, I was so giddy when I got her! The good parts are below the cut:
When the doll was launched at Tarina Tarantino’s studio in 2008, there were six OOAK custom dolls on display at the party as well, to be auctioned off for charity. They’re the same base doll as the general release Tarina, but the hair and jewelry are unique and they each came with a fully bedazzled car (or a Moped in one example), and a piece of jewelry from the collection.  The six dolls were: Candy Cameo Barbie
Tumblr media
Sparkling Star Barbie
Tumblr media
Peace, Love and Sparkle Barbie
Tumblr media
Hippie Princess Barbie
Tumblr media
Glam Rock Barbie
Tumblr media
And finally, the subject of this post, Popstar Barbie
Tumblr media
I can’t even describe how much I LOVED these dolls, particularly Popstar and Sparkling Star. I had their pictures saved on my computer and I would just look at them all the time, google pictures of them from the launch party and think about how lucky I would be to own one of them.  Sadly I wasn’t very careful with my dolls when I was 14, and eventually my Tarina became a little busted and I got rid of her. I did get a second one at Big Lots when I was 15, but I kinda destroyed her too lol.   What’s funny is that Tarina is actually the #1 reason why I became a member of the online doll community; I tried washing her (curly, kanekalon) hair, ruined it, and in searching for ways to fix it I found and joined the Flickr doll community, without which I never would have learned about doll photography, hair restyling or any of the amazing dolls I discovered through this community. She quite literally changed my life when I was 14 lol.  Anyways, I’ve always wanted to get a new Tarina to leave NIB but it was never the right time, until last week when I decided to go looking at pictures of her...and then, at the top of Google Images, was a listing for Popstar Barbie, with her Swarovski encrusted Corvette, on a secondhand designer clothing website for about 340$.
Tumblr media
I can’t even describe how FRANTIC I became lmfao. I had to wait about 4 days to buy her, until I got paid, and then I bought her as quickly as I could.  She just got here today and frankly, I can die happy now. Sorry for these rough pics lol I have a migraine and didn’t want to set up to take good photos today. She came in a plain white cardboard box with a Tarina Tarantino sticker on the top, wrapped in pink tissue paper:
Tumblr media
She is in EXCELLENT condition, even her hair looks completely untouched.  Here’s a photo of her that was taken around the time of the launch:
Tumblr media
She’s in the same condition as she was, all those years ago when this photo was taken! As previously mentioned, her base is identical to the general release; the only differences are that her hair is rooted with a side part and (expertly) cut and styled into a Farrah wave, her jewelry is entirely different and custom made, and her purse is covered with little rhinestones to match.   Also her stand is signed by Tarina!! She’s incredibly beautiful, ughh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think her jewelry might actually be Swarovski, since Tarina really likes to work with their stones. She’s absolutely pristine, actually I’m quite certain she was put in the box immediately after the auction and never touched again.  Much to my delight and surprise, she also came with the original auction card, the pedestal it stood on, and her COA, all wrapped in official Tarina Tarantino tissue paper (as well as the necklace, still in the little drawstring baggy):
Tumblr media
This was SO exciting for me to see as I never expected the card to be included, but I’m so pleased to have it! And last but not least, the car!!
Tumblr media
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
It was fully wrapped in plastic in the shipping box, and I re-wrapped it after taking this quick/messy photo.  It’s the 2008 TRU exclusive Corvette, but absolutely SOAKED in crystals. The rims and tires, the headlights, even the seatbelts and windshield edges are just absolutely covered in different, individually placed stones (mostly Swarovski AB crystals I believe) Also! That black thing on the front is a resin SKULL with gemstone eyes!!!! Absolutely incredible.  I find it absolutely, completely 100% unbelievable that I own this doll, this doll that I’ve coveted since I was 14 and NEVER thought I would own in a million years, this one of a kind doll that was physically displayed at Tarina Tarantino’s studio and signed by Tarina herself...and she’s mine. It frankly feels like destiny considering how much I love the original doll, and how big a part she’s played in my life as a doll collector.  I also purchased a general release Tarina Barbie shortly after getting her, to keep NIB and display with the OOAK (and also because I really, really, really missed owning her lol)
Tumblr media
The current plan is to keep this doll NIB, and then purchase another NIB Tarina- that way I’ll have one to debox and restyle, and I can repackage the OOAK in her box for permanent safekeeping and display. Actually I plan on purchasing two more Tarinas haha; one NIB to steal her box and leave stock, and a loose one to restyle and rebody lol.  As for the car, I plan on packaging it to remain pristine and safe, perhaps in a clear acrylic case, and putting it in my closet for safekeeping when it’s not on display in my room. I plan on setting up my lightbox (the one I’ve owned for years and literally never use) and taking a shit ton of detailed, HQ photos of both Barbie and her Corvette for documentation purposes; I feel absolutely honored to own this doll and I really want to capture every detail for people to see.  Anyway long post, thanks for reading sksksks

5. What’s your favourite candy bar? Are there candy bars which are not chocolate???
6. Have you ever been to a professional sports game? Does esports count? I went to Kuala Lumpur DotA 2 Major in 2018. Otherwise, I didn’t go to any.
7. What is the last thing you said out loud? “I’m printing it!”
8. What is your favourite ice cream? Strawberry. Life is already bitter as is.
9. What was the last thing you had to drink? Tea. I just had breakfast.
10. Do you like your wallet? Indifferent.
11. What was the last thing you ate? Fried rice. Not Uncle Roger’s style because I am not Chinese.
12. Did you buy any new clothes last weekend? Big fat nope.
13. What was the last sporting event you watched? DotA 2 online tournament. I have a team I have been supporting since I started watching it in 2015 and their game started really late last night (time zone thing)
14. What is your favourite flavor of popcorn? Just the plain one.
15. Who was the last person you sent a text message to? I texted my friend (whom I managed to make him watch his first kdrama) from school to prepare a box of tissue before watching episode 15 of More than Friends.
16. Ever been camping? Camping was an annual thing back in my primary school.
17. Do you take vitamins? I don’t go out under the sun, if that’s what you mean. But no, I don’t take supplements because I am too lazy.
18. Do you regularly attend a place of worship? Not since the pandemic.
19. Do you have a tan? At this rate, I call it sunburn. But I haven’t gone out much (apart from going to work as and when needed, groceries, and taking my car for a spin) since the pandemic so the tan line is becoming fader.
20. Do you prefer chinese or pizza? Pineapple on pizza. Sue me!
21. Do you drink your soda through a straw? I pour it into a glass and drink it like a champ. But I also try to reduce single-use plastics in my daily life.
22. What colour of socks do you usually wear? Black is always the safe option (yes it tells a lot about my personality huh)
23. Do you ever drive above the speed limit? Yes, but only where the speed limit is stupidly too low. Otherwise, I rarely drive above 100 km/h.
24. What terrifies you? The list is too long, it should probably be a separate post. I project my issues on the shows that I watch so every now and then you would see me analysing characters or incidents while projecting my issues.

26. What chore do you hate most? Scrubbing the toilet.

30. What’s your favourite number? 3 and its first 3 multiples
31. Who was the last person you talked to? My brother, when I passed him the printed material he asked me to print early in the morning for his chess coaching session (he’s a chess coach, yes).
32. Favourite meat? Chicken, because it’s the easiest to be eaten.
33. Last song you listened to? Late Regret by Ong Seong Wu (More than Friends OST). I even listened to the 1-hour loop on YouTube while editing my screencaps last night. And it took longer than the editing process so I also listened to the video with hangul and English lyrics afterwards. I am more comfortable with hangul than the romanisation so I guess my pathetic Korean lessons paid off.
34. Last book you read? I can’t even remember the last time I read a book. Probably mid last year?
35. Favourite day of the week? Saturday.
36. Can you say the alphabet backwards? Haven’t tried 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
37. How do you like your coffee? Latte. But I am not a coffee drinker and only started drinking occasionally this year due to the amount of work I had to put in during the first half of this year (yes, even during the pandemic)
38. Favourite pair of shoes? I only have 2 pairs of shoes to even have any favourite. 1 pair for work and another for casual wear.
39. Time you normally get up? Half past 6 if I have to go to the office. Otherwise, I’ll wake up for morning prayer and continue sleeping until half an hour before I have to clock in. On weekends, I continue sleeping until closer to 10 o’clock. If I stayed up the night, probably closer to noon.
40. Which do you prefer, sunrise or sunset? Sunset all the way, because it’s the beginning of my favourite time of the day. Yes, I’m a vampire who loves the night. I also love necks
41. How many blankets on your bed? One and only. It’s too hot to wear even a thin blanket but it gets cold around 3 am so I have to be prepared.
42. Describe your kitchen plates. I like the design of Portmeirion table set from the early 2000s.
43. Describe your kitchen at the moment. It’s not photography material, but it’s not dirty or messy or anything.
44. Do you have a favourite alcoholic drink? I don’t drink.
45. Do you play cards? No. I don’t play anything that requires other people to join me (yes, I am a lone ranger).
46. What colour is your car? The Nissan partner and distributor in my country calls it Dark Metal Grey. It does look nice.
47. Can you change a tire? I can, but I wouldn’t. With free towing service, why should I bother?
48. Your favourite state or province? I was practically born and raised here so I cannot pick a favourite.
49. Favourite job you’ve had? I would say my previous job, because our team had a fantastic working relationship, and everyone was crazy enough to entertain my antics as the maknae.

Voltron: Next Generation
Dangerous Clashes: II
Word Count: 2804
Kenny woke up to someone shaking him. He reluctantly awoke, still groggy. His dad was at his bedside, staring at him.
"Hey, Ken." Keith was saying. "C'mon, time to wake up. We have to go."
"What?" The teen groaned.
"It's time to go."
"We can't wait five more minutes?" Keith shook his head and walked to the door.
"Get up and pack up. You'll be staying with the Holts."
"What about Kyla?" He asked, but Keith had already walked out the door.
With a groan, he pushed back the gray and white plaid comforter and grabbed his suitcase and backpack. His closet was filled with oranges, browns, reds, and greens. Kenny grabbed a white t-shirt, a brown jacket, and blue jeans. He looked under the bed for his sneakers, then remembered they were by the front door. With a suitcase and backpack in hand, Kenny walked down the familiar hallway. Pictures lined the walls, mostly of Keith and Katie's adventures and accomplishments. Kenny passed the family picture taken years ago without looking at it. Why did his parents think a mullet was a great idea?
Kenny missed the wood-paneled walls. He even missed the mismatched yellow chair.
"Kyla!" Pidge yelled from the kitchen. "Why are you still wearing pajamas? Are you even packed?" Kenny dropped his suitcase and backpack by the front door and walked past the living room to the nearest counter. Kyla looked so small in her seafoam green pajamas, clutching the small lilac blanket over her shoulders. Kyla had her head bent, staring at the hardwood floor. She slept with that blanket like it was a stuffed animal. Whether the short woman saw or not didn't matter when tears began to fall to the floor.
"Stop it." Kenny stepped forward, picking up the little girl. One stern look was all Kenny gave his mother. When he entered the hallway, he dropped his voice. "Don't pay attention to Pidge. She's just cranky."
They entered Kyla's room. He remembered they used to argue about the wall color. The paint can read "Night Sky Navy" but Kyla insisted it was dark purple. Whatever.
Setting the little girl down, Kenny kneeled on the floor in front of her.
"Pidge and Keith are going to go away for awhile. You need to be packed and ready to live at your new home until they come back, okay?" Kyla cocked her head, shrugged, and nodded. "Cool. Now, where's your suitcase?" She pointed at a black suitcase in the back of her closet. He grabbed it and set it on the bed beside her. "Now, what should we put in here?"
For the next few minutes, Kyla directed Kenny on her shirts, pants, underwear, and socks' locations. They chose a purple long-sleeved shirt with ruffles at the sleeves, two pink t-shirts, two pairs of brown plaid shorts, a pair of black pants, and four pairs of socks. Her underwear should last her a week without washes, but hopefully, their parents weren't that cruel.
Only a few items were missing. Extra pajamas, swimsuit, fancy dresses, maybe some overalls, and a random object she could take in the suitcase. Her big smile returned, and her amber eyes were bright. Besides her seafoam onesie, Kyla insisted her gray onesie be put inside too, along with the matching slippers. Kenny complied, also grabbing a pair of black mary janes and pink sneakers in the process. The swimsuit was packed at the bottom of a junk drawer, but they managed to grab it. It was designed to look like a Voltron Paladin suit. He had a matching two-piece. His was green, while Kyla's was black. She didn't wear it often, though.
"Okay, Kyla! Time for fancy dresses!" Kenny said in a funny voice, making the little girl laugh. He pulled a closet door aside and saw most of the clothes were hanging on the upper rack, much too far off the ground for little Kyla. "Which fancy dress, little Ky?" Kenny looked through the rack, studying the reds and greens on almost every dress. He got to a black sequined dress when Kyla told him to stop. If he remembered right, this was a gift from the Shiroganes. Or Grandma. Maybe he didn't remember right.
"This is the one with the ribbons, right?" He called.
"Yeah!"
"Okay. Where are the ribbons?"
"In the box."
"What box?"
"That box!" He turned and saw Kyla pointing at the wooden chest on her dresser. A dresser she also couldn't reach alone.
"That's a rainbow of color. Okay, Ky. What colors am I grabbing?"
"Hmm, blue, red, and purple!"
"Purple?"
"Purple!"
"Okay!" Kenny grabbed the colors and returned to Kyla and the suitcase. "Ooh, I almost forgot the overalls. While I grab those, do you wanna grab your special object?"
"What's a special object?" He kneeled in front of her again.
"It's anything you want that can fit in your bag. It can be a toy, or a picture of the family, or even your blankie." Kyla wrapped the thin blanket around her shoulders tightly, eyes narrowing defiantly. She was daring him to take her blankie away. "Okay, okay! Maybe not the blankie, but do you get what I mean?" She nodded, and he stood up to grab the overalls from the closet. Whatever she grabbed, he didn't see. She had hidden it in the piles of clothes inside the suitcase already. He didn't ask any questions, especially since there was no time to ask them. Keith and Pidge were starting to yell and honk the horn. Kenny sat on the bed and Kyla wrapped her arms around his neck. They piggy-backed to the living room, where Kova asked to be put down. With her suitcase in one hand, and Kova holding the other, Kenny walked out the front door for the last time.
That wasn't the last time Kenny saw Kyla, though. She fell asleep in the car on the way to the Holt's house. It was still pretty early in the morning. When he got out of the car, Kenny got a long, tearful goodbye from his parents on his grandparents' doorstep. They wished him well and promised he would be the first to visit when they returned. Kyla woke up in the car alone, shivering. Her blankie had fallen off. She looked out the windows to figure out where she was. Kenny saw Kyla's bright eyes staring at the scene sadly. She pressed a hand into the glass, and Kenny lifted his hand in return. His parents didn't see, and his grandparents didn't seem to notice. As they drove off, Kenny could only wish Kyla the best wherever she went.

"Do you have any real questions for us or are you just going to keep accusing us?"
"Griffin!" Shiro scolded.
"Sorry, Colonel." She sat up in her chair.
"This is just," Keith trailed off. They had moved the extra chair to the floor below. Keith was sitting in front of the crew, rubbing his face with a hand.
"It's a lot, I know. But you've been asleep for a long time, and we should catch you up on current events." Shiro stepped away from the head console, descended the stairs, and approached Keith. His head was bent, trying to process everything.
"You're telling me I had been asleep for ten years?" Keith looked up at the teens, all staring at him with varying degrees of boredom.
"Almost eleven," Caleb mentioned, crossing his arms and reclining in his chair. Shiro shot him a look but said nothing. The teens sat and watched Keith's brain trying to catch up to the present while anxiously waiting for news about the teleduv.
"How did the mission go? Did everyone get back to Earth okay?"
"Griffin, as his doctor, tell me if you agree." Caleb stood up to lean on his console. "All relevant members of the crew are aware of the ACHLYS mission and its aftermath, correct? I don't see the need to pain the man anymore with the knowledge until he has completely understood the current threat."
"Nice Kova impression."
"Shut up."
"Caleb is right." Shiro turned to Keith. "We'll tell you what we're up against, but we aren't going to tell you what happened to the crew of the ACHLYS." Shiro turned to the crew of the Coeus, ready to brief them.
"They're dead," Keith whispered. "They're all dead, aren't they?"
"Keith," Shiro began.
"Tell me." Keith looked up to meet Shiro's eyes. Tears pricked the corners of his eyes, his heartbreak clear on his face. It was his fault they had been ambushed. It was his fault that the mission failed. His friends died because he couldn't see two feet in front of him. Allie had stood up from her seat with a box of tissues in her hand. Taking one from the box, she dabbed the tears falling from Keith's eyes. When his gaze met hers, her body tightened. With a breath, she relaxed.
"They are not dead." The young girl said quietly. "We believe they are like you were. Asleep, in stasis." She moved to the other eye, Keith watching her every move. "We don't want to tell you what happened because we're afraid you'll attack us in your grief." She placed the tissue box in Keith's hands and walked away, heels clicking on every step.
"They're fine?"
"More than likely." Shiro was standing beside Keith again, holding the man's shoulder. Keith held a dazed look.
"Kenny to crew, prepare for a wormhole jump. Repeat, prepare for a wormhole jump." The speakers were deafening, louder than necessary.
Allie hopped back to her seat, Caleb sat down, and Shiro dragged Keith's chair to the corner under Allie's console. Each of the teens was strapped into their colorful chairs, holding on for dear life. Shiro, on the other hand, held tight but remained standing.
A bright blue rift appeared in front of the Coeus, thrusters ceasing fire as it floated through. The teens braced themselves as the Coeus rocked harshly from the force inside the wormhole. The Coeus emerged intact on the other side of the rift, the wormhole closing behind it. Thrusters came back online, power returned to normal. Liz pulled up the charts and coordinates on her console.
"Please don't tell me we jumped two feet again." Cake groaned, turning his chair to look at Liz.
"I'm checking, calm down." She looked at the charts, pinpointing their last location and where Kova currently was. She pulled it up to the larger screen and she shrieked in delight.
"We moved the equivalent of four days' travel!" The teens cheered, Kenny included in the engine room, while Shiro looked at the teens proudly. Keith came out of his daze to stare at the cheering teens, smiling sadly. He and Shiro met eyes, seemingly having met the same conclusion. The teens were just like them when they were younger. When they were paladins of Voltron a lifetime ago.

"What's wrong, mutt? Afraid to get your overrated hands dirty?" Kova shouted at the guard as they stood in front of her tiny room. The guards snarled and growled at her, but they seemed to remain stoic. "Figured. You like to act so high and mighty, but you know you're one of a million in the universe. Act like it."
"Enough!" A loud voice on the other side yelled, and Kova smiled. Finally. The door opened and the guard stalked in as others tried to stop him. "I'll show you what a mutt can do." He snarled and pounced. Kova was quicker, though. She side-stepped, using the force of his jump against him by pushing his head towards the dirty mattress. Kova had him by the scruff despite the size difference.
"Ooh, so scary." Kova mocked the guard, angering him. Another growl and he had thrown Kova off of him. She landed with a crash, cleaning supplies landing on the floor below. She was crouched when the guard pounced towards her again. She jumped onto his back as he fell into a small pothole that was used as an emergency toilet. It was currently backed up, making the room smell horrible."Thanks for using your head as a stopper. The smell was starting to seriously give me a headache." She smacked the back of the guard's head as she stood up. His flailing body had obscured her view from the door.
"Kyla!" A voice shouted. Kova turned to glare at the person. It wasn't Yorak. The young man had been built like a bodybuilder, wearing a silver shoulder-piece to keep his navy blue cape in check. Unlike Yorak, this man had more alien characteristics. His skin was orange, his hair was a matching blue to his cape, and his eyes had yellow sclera with a dark iris and pupil. Kova remembered him.
"Ezrid, nice to see you again," Kova said, earning a glare of annoyance from the tall man. He glanced at the guard stuck in the emergency toilet and met Kova's eyes again.
"That is not my name." He said slowly. "I am Commander Vhix, second-in-command to Emperor Yorak."
"Ooh, so proper." Kova leaned against the wall, crossing her arms. "How long did it take you to come up with that?"
"You dare mock me?"
"Sorry if Vhix doesn't strike as much fear in my heart as believing you were eaten by a shark in our backyard pool."
"You remember that?"
"Why wouldn't I? I'm still afraid of sharks."
"Nevermind. Stop pestering the guards."
"No."
"You dare disobey a direct order from your superior?"
"You wouldn't be able to beat me. And besides, I needed the armor."
"Why would you possibly need armor for?"
"Where do I start? I'm on an intergalactic spaceship heading who-knows-where after being kidnapped by a maniac. I want to be prepared for anything."
"If you wanted armor, you could have asked."
"Asked who? Your undertrained mutts?" In a swift move, Vhix had Kova by the throat, holding her against the wall.
"Seems you need to remember you're a mutt, too," Vhix growled in Kova's ear. "If I hear about you tormenting the guards again, you will be punished harshly. Understood?" He didn't wait for a reply. Instead, he dropped her and walked out the door. Kova gasped for breath, rubbing her neck. Two more guards had come in to remove the first guard by bending back the metal of the emergency toilet. He was freed, gagging the entire way out of the room. The door closed behind them, leaving the emergency toilet bigger than before.
At least Kova would have what she needed to get out. The cleaning supplies that had fallen to the floor were garbage bags, disinfectants with long gone labels, and hydrogen peroxide. She needed the garbage bags more than the peroxide, but it still helped. Stripping down to her bodysuit, which she wore underneath her street clothes, she stuffed her clothes into a plastic bag. Stashing it in the inner corner of the corner, out of sight from the door, she set herself to work. Pouring a few bottles into a large bucket, she kept a close eye on the door and a keen ear to others walking about.
Everything was ready. She just needed yeast. Who better to ask than the ever polite half-Galra guards outside her door? She knocked on the door, and they banged on it in response. She knocked again, and they groaned, annoyed. Kova didn't blame them. She'd do the same. The door opened. The guard held a shield in front of them, separating the two. It didn't separate the smells, though. The guard groaned, covering their nose.
"Can I get a box of yeast? It helps with eliminating odors." The guard nodded, closing the door and rushing off to grab it.
As a disclaimer, kids, don't use yeast to eliminate smells in your bathroom. Baking soda helps eliminate odors from the bathroom, and when mixed correctly with peroxide, can create a whitening paste. Hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and yeast mixed together will form a chemical compound made foam. The guards here don't have to know yeast doesn't get rid of the poopy smell.
Kova is counting on this. The guard returned, pinching their nose again at the smell. Kova thanked them, even if it went unacknowledged. She got to work setting her trap with a broom and a bucket, positioned carefully. Her escape would be in a few hours when the emergency toilet was emptied.
Hopefully, the Coeus was close enough to reach her. Otherwise, Kova was a sitting duck, and she didn't want to be a duck.

Survey #267
“you can take my heart, you can take my breath - when you pry it from my cold, dead chest.”
When did you last talk to the last person you kissed? Last night. Do you think people have any misconceptions about you? Oh, I'm positively certain. What’s something you wish you could understand better? There are a great many things, but the first that came to mind are certain political/moral beliefs that I REALLY do want to understand, but I just don't. When was the last time you cried really, really hard? About a week back when I woke up shrieking and sobbing from a nightmare about Dad. Have you ever injected a drug? No. How many people have you liked in the past 5 months? I've been COnfuFSSeD!!!!!! Are you currently in a relationship? Nope. Probably for the better. Have you ever touched a dead body? Animals, yes. I may have at an open-casket wake, but idr. I was young. Ever played Grand Theft Auto? Nope, but oh man, good memories of those stupid games with my neighbor back when I was younger... He loved that game just to fuck around, and I liked watching. Then Jacob and Jason played it together at the apartment a lot, and those are warm memories, too. The last male you spoke to … is he attractive? That would be my 3-year-old nephew, so it'd be fucking weird to call him that. He's one handsome little boy, though. We all know he's gonna be a lady killer one day. If your ex called right now, would you answer? Yeah. Is there a dictionary on your bookshelf? I don't even have a bookshelf. Do you have any pet names for the person you love/like? Not anymore. Who was the last person you had a serious conversation with? What is your honest opinion of that person? Mom. I love her to death. Who was the first person you dated? What is your honest opinion of that person? Aaron was my puppy-dog love, and I have not the slightest clue what he's up to now, but I have faith he's kept that good head of his. Ever fallen in the shower? I've passed out while getting *out* of it. I've slipped a number of times too, but not truly fallen. Do you think that things will get better? For me, I genuinely don't know. Ever been to a bonfire party? Yes, by my cousins' friend's pool for a b-day party. It was cool. Their house was fuckin' wild. Movie theater inside and all. Is your dad bald? Just about. His head is just mostly shaved. Have you ever slept at a member of the opposite sex’s house? I mean yeah, all the time when we were together. Have you ever hooked up with someone to hurt someone else? Wow, no. I don't do "hook-ups" anyway. Do any of your relatives actually pinch your cheeks when they see you? No. Have you ever made a member of the opposite sex cry? Ugh, yeah. Do you know the last person you kissed's parents? Yes, I adore them. Do they like you? I think so. Name a couple things you can cook. ... Literally just scrambled eggs, if you mean something pretty much from scratch. Well, I could probably still do pasta if I read the box. Who was there to help you last time you were puking? My mom. I am absolutely terrified of vomiting, so she's kind enough to somehow manage to stand in there with me and talk to me. Are there any boxes of tissues in your room? What’s the design on it? No. Are you in high school? When are you done? No. I graduated in 2014. Are you embarrassed to say if you’re a virgin or not? More like confused and awkward, because I genuinely DON'T know for sure. Have you ever met someone you thought you’d be with forever? It was  "certainty" to me. That's partially why the breakup was so traumatizing. I MEAN IT when I say my brain couldn't even fathom the idea. It was "impossible." It simply couldn't happen. Then it did. ^Where are you two now? We haven't spoken in three years. Has your best friend ever been in love? Yes. What was the last magazine you bought? I've never been a magazine person. Will the last person you kissed get you anything for your next birthday? *shrugs* Do you think Family Guy is funny or just stupid? It can be both. Have you ever stayed with someone who treated you like shit just because you liked them so much? NO SIR-EE. You'd never see me stay with someone who treated me badly. Would you date someone all your friends and family hate? If I REALLY liked them, but if everyone hated that person, I would seriously consider why that is. Are you already looking forward to your wedding? Ha ha, not really, in most ways. Like, I hate getting all fancy and such. Have you ever spit on someone? No. Would you rather cuddle or make out? I MEAN, that depends on the mood??? Has your best friend ever been cheated on? No. Do you text with one hand or with both? Both. Are your parents left or right-handed? Right, to my knowledge? What was the last photo you took of? Something on FB I wanted to show to Sara. What topic always interests you and you will never tire of? C R Y P T I D Z Are you more or less tolerant than the average person? If you mean of varying beliefs, stuff like that, definitely more. If someone were to rate your life, what film certificate would it receive? PG-13 or R, idk. Actually, probably R for all they profanity lmaooo. Do you mind eating cold fries or are they disgusting? Ewww. What song makes you cry? What about it makes you cry? I physically cannot listen to "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin because of Jason joking at prom that the music sucked and we could dance to something like that, then once he took me home, I played it from my iPod over his car speakers and we danced in the headlights of his truck and it all felt like a fairy-tale. I'm emotional just typing it and it makes my stomach hurt, so moving on. If you could remake a movie, which movie would it be? Silent Hill: Revelation. As a fanatic over the series, I enjoyed it decently, but, objectively, it sucked and was ALL over the place. How about if you could rewrite a book's ending, which one? Why? I don't think I'd change any. Maybe a clearer answer to The Handmaid's Tale, but it's still g. What colour hair does your sibling(s) have? Brown, except Misty and Katie. Theirs is black. What gemstone would you like on your wedding ring? A dragon's breath opal or rose gold would be gorgeous. What are you looking forward to in the near future? We're throwing my little sister a surprise graduation party at our older sis's house. Thanks to the quarantine, her senior graduation isn't *actually* happening, so. How is life going for you, anyway? Be honest. IT KINDA S U CKS!!!!!! What time did you get changed this morning? I haven't changed out of my pj's. I almost never do (besides obviously after a shower) because I have nowhere to go, like ever. Have you met somebody that you want to spend the rest of your life with? Yeah. Have you ever dressed up as a Disney character? Which one? Maybe as a kid? Have you ever played chess? If so, are you good at it? I’ve never played it. If I wanted to buy you a chocolate bar, what kind should I NOT get? Ew, Snickers. Of all your close friends, who have you known the longest? Sara. What was the last song you heard, that made you feel emotional? Hm. Maybe "Disguise" by Motionless In White. I wonder all the time if that's how Jason felt. Plus it's his favorite band, so that's a double whammy. When was the last time you took a selfie? Maybe about a month ago. As a child, did you ever have any scented gel pens or markers? Oh, I remember those! Yes. Name an alcoholic beverage that you dislike. Hell, most that I've tried. I hate strong stuff. Can you recall the last time you were on a dancefloor? When I was shooting someone's wedding last year. Do you own any color-changing mood jewellery? No, I have zero faith in those. What was the last thing you heated up in your microwave? Ummm pizza rolls, I think. What was the last flavor of ice cream you had? Moose tracks. Do you have an online game that you play often? I play World of Warcraft daily, and I enjoy the Dragons of Atlantis app a few times a day. I was into it when it was still a game on an actual website, and I more recently downloaded it on my phone. What’s your favorite cookie? Soft chocolate chip... yum. How long would you have to date someone for before moving in together? I think this depends very much on the relationship, BUT LIKE, definitely not TOO quickly because you need to test the endurance of the relationship. I'd at the very least give it a year and seriously consider how healthy the relationship is. Moving in with each other shouldn't be an impulsive "this is working great omg I love him/her let's do this!!!!". What's your favorite kind of sushi? N/A How much was the last bill that you paid? I've never paid a bill... wow, that's sad. What was the cause of the worst low point you've had in your life? A very abrupt, traumatic breakup. What are some of your favorite types of cheeses? Really just American. When did you last feel like your privacy was invaded? I'm not sure. Do your parents volunteer anywhere? No. Do you own more than 50 books? I have my Warriors books stocked somewhere. Probably in the attic. Do you have a bachelor's degree? Bitch I wish. How old were you when you became financially independent from your parents? I'm 24 and still aren't independent. Does your kitchen have an island? No. Have you ever bought or sold something on Facebook Marketplace? This con is big but not too nice.
I like the accessible washroom of the building
I like how spaced the artist tables are. But geez.
Artists are upset about the crappy wooden tables, people are talking about the artists who got banned for complaining about getting scammed out of their second table.
The artists here are great though. I wish the con cared more about them. Lots of people I know here. Many I already commissioned. I'm not going to get a second commission from someone if I haven't scanned and uploaded the one I got from them previously. Doesn't seem right.
I commissioned an artist who it was their first con, and I have an artist I want to commission online later.
I had to pay extra money for the sky train to refill my card. Would have been nice if the one lording it over us about having a car would actually have helped us today with said car but I think maybe we need to give those poor cyclists a break (okay, maybe I'm being a bit too petty with this now)
The pain medicine keeps me feeling okay. I love cosplaying as Andy again. Maybe in the winter months I'll get new converse so they're not hurting my legs and back. I need them up one size that's a big reason why cosplaying as Andy hurts.
I wish I wasn't so hot I hate sweating. I wish I was healthy and that I could finally finish my cosplay. Someday. I finally get to see a specialist soon. Hoping that puts me on the road to finally having normalcy and a body that at least tries to work properly.
My friend reminded me that we first made my cosplay when I was still ten pounds underweight so the fact that my shorts are tighter on me than usual shouldn't be too unexpected. My back flaring up definitely contributes to it too. I think a big chunk of me thinking I'm an ugly lump is not because of things like diet and more just my body being the unfortunate way it is. Thanks to bad genetics and scar tissue I'm bottom-heavy and no amount of fixing my diet is going to change that. I'm the Danny Devito of Andys. But admittedly the bad situation of July likely made it more noticable. I hate being a thicc boy. I meme about being the designated "fat kid who dies first" but I'm actually sensitive about it.
For how expensive it is to buy a single pass and a falling apart table here, this con has no internet for artists. But that's consistent. Was that way the last few years too. Funny how the cons that cost less and come with the right number of badges and a clean table also have free internet for the artist alley.
To be honest as much as I love all the artists and attendees here and being more likely to be recognized as Andy I really do not like this con.
The art of Andy I got from the first convention attendee artist is very cute. Crisp black and white inks so it'll scan well and I can't wait to share. But no internet!
There's an artist who does custom buttons but they're unlike any buttons I've ever seen. They are wrapped in an acrylic casing instead of punched around a metal piece. I want to get an Andy button from them. That reminds me I haven't scanned any of my custom Andy buttons.
Someone offered the take a photo of me against a banner but I didn't feel good enough. I probably should have taken them up on the offer but I just felt yuck.
The only video game sellers did not have PS1 games which actually angered me lmao.
Sales aren't good I think.
I'm sweating real bad. So glad I got a bath last night and brought my deodorant. Good god. Where's the AC? It's days like these I wish Andy ran around the Darkland barefoot so I could get out of wearing socks. I expell so much heat through my feet and hands I don't want to eat my chocolate snacks I brought for fear they will melt all over my fingers.
I went outside to bring my friend back a coffee (I can do this all by myself because of how close it is hurray!) But as soon as I went back in I started to sweat again.
I found a friend lined up in front of the ATM. We talked. It was nice to see them again. I found another friend elsewhere and also the first friend came around later. Was fun.
WHY DOES NO ONE KNOW HOW TO USE DEODERANT? I WANT TO DIE. I have had to walk behind people who smell like absolute death and it's made me feel really gross. Here I am concerned about a little sweat and there's people who you'd think are UNDEAD because of how the scent of ?????? trails behind them for like ten feet. You can smell when they pass behind you. I want to throw up.
I got some more art. The Andy button I was interested in, found someone else to commission something digital. The Andy button is AMAZING. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. it's hard to clip it closed but it's so cool and it opens so I can scan the art inside.
I got stickers from my friends I wanted to get, and a secret gift for Fishy made by my friend Sam. I intend to make a care box (is that the word?) cuz I know your birthday is coming up this month.
My stickers already got scuffed on my new folder so I'm sad. I hate being a bumbler who bumps things.
There was an artist who drew dogs but I couldn't find them again :(
I think I made a new friend. He is super cool and does panels at vancoufur. His fursona also wears a bandanna.
I feel a lot better about pain medicine. My friend says I could be able to take it every day and I just need to be careful not to take too much. I know people like me run the risk of becoming immune to them and having a sick liver but he says as long as I don't take too many it's fine.
Is this why I'm so miserable all the damn time!?
Legit what if that's the problem?
So I'm feeling pretty good about that. You guys might see a brand new Finsterhund. I'm so excited to have energy and feel comfy again. I was raised with fear mongering of "only using pain medicine when it was worse than usual. Because it'd kill you." But all that is untrue and I've been suffering needlessly this whole time.
So yeah. Now I'm going to start taking them bi daily. As well as the ones to help me sleep.
Genuinely feeling good about this. Andy cosplaying! Pain relief! It's all here! Things finally looking up for lil ol me.
I'm budgeting this con better too. Half of that is because I'm getting lost and can't find artists i wanted to commission again but that's a side effect of my worsening memory. I want to get a small ocarana but I might not be able to afford it by the end. It'd be nice to play Andy's Mission on. That way it won't annoy my friend like a kazoo would. Even though he said my kazoo is fine and he wouldn't have given it to me if it wasn't.
There's more artists I wish I could commission but I'm trying to be careful.
I was very hungry and they had hotdog rollers right outside the con and I really wanted one and they were SIX DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS. That's awful. But I got one because I was so hungry. It tasted good at least.
There's an hour and a half left of the day. I don't know what we will do after. I don't want to socialize except with my friends and if I go to bed early I'll be up at 4AM again.
There's now a little under an hour left and I'm tired. Wanting to go back to the hotel room and relax. I'm disappointed in myself for buying the expensive hotdog.
Whisky has been shedding since I brushed him and part of me is all AAAAAAAAAA but the other part is all "this would definitely have been canon."
My friend left his table under my care for the last twenty minutes of the day and I'm kinda anxious. I'm scared that ex roommate "took revenge" on my stuff back at the hotel room. He's never done stuff like that before, but he has threatened to. I also have that sense of emptyness inside that I get sometimes. The one where you just feel bad, no reason to, just emotionally hurt.

12 Secrets of Dollar Store Employees
1. PAPER GOODS ARE THE BEST DEAL IN STORES.
You can discover essentially anything at dollar stores, including solidified nourishment (more on that in a minute), toys, and cleaning items. Collections can fluctuate broadly by store and by establishment, however as per Brenda, the store supervisor of a Dollar Tree in the Midwest, clients get the best arrangement staying with paper items. In any event, that is the thing that representatives purchase generally much of the time. “The things that my representatives and I buy at Dollar Tree for esteem would be tissue, paper towels, birthday cards, treats, inflatables, plastic product, paper plates, envelopes, stationary items, and the every day paper,” she says. At her store, bathroom tissue and the neighborhood paper are the top venders. While the previous is a quite clear need, papers at her area are commonly less expensive than in different stores; the Sunday release specifically is up to a few dollars less expensive. (Like a great deal of their stock, the chain likely gets a gigantic rebate for purchasing the papers in mass.)
2. THEY KNOW YOU WON’T BE IN THE STORE FOR TOO LONG.
Dollar stores ordinarily have little signage, couple of laces, and a little land impression (Dollar General’s is around 7300 square feet, or one-tenth the extent of a Walmart). However, having constrained space with effectively open things is by plan—the normal shopping trip for a Dollar General store is only 10 minutes. “Arranging the store around quick outings is one great approach to improve the quick experience numerous clients are searching for, while additionally keeping deals high by enabling clients to see numerous items,” says Hank, an associate Dollar Tree store director in Canada. Clients “will in general need to get in and out quick. They are regularly occupied and have different designs for the afternoon and would prefer not to invest an excessive amount of energy meandering the store.”
3. THEY WANT CUSTOMERS TO FEEL LIKE THEY’RE ON A TREASURE HUNT.
As per Moody’s, an income and credit examination firm, Dollar General pivots its stock all the time to make clients feel like they have to purchase things presently on the off chance that they’re not around later—sustaining what it calls a “treasure chase” feel. That enables the stores to contend with online retailers like Amazon, which regularly keeps up load of famous items and may not incite a similar feeling of earnestness in purchasers.
Dollar Tree’s methodology is somewhat extraordinary. While new stock arrives from providers, it’s not as often as possible. “When we are doing the truck we get truly energized when we see another item,” Brenda says. “We just observe perhaps 10 to 15 new things for each week out of 1500 things that are falling off of the truck, so when we get something new we quickly cut open the case and inspect it.”
4. THEY CATCH A LOT OF SHOPLIFTERS.
You can leave dollar stores with an armful of merchandise for $20, $10, or less, however that still doesn’t hinder individuals from swiping even the least expensive targets. “The shoplifting is incredibly wild,” Brenda says. “We get somebody pretty much consistently.”
Strangely, the cost may help encourage the robbery. “The thing with the low costs is that there is no genuine obstacle from individuals taking since none of the items have any security around them,” Brenda says.
5. THEY RECOMMEND YOU SKIP THE STEAK.
Looking for solidified nourishments at the rebate chains can be all in or all out. A few things may be OK: “I’ve had the little pie cuts, the wiener and flapjack nibbles, and the Cinnabon chomps are astonishing,” Brenda says. “The solidified meals are great too. Individuals likewise love the solidified vegetables and natural product.”
Be that as it may, with regards to natural sustenance, similar to meat or fish, you ought to likely consider a visit to the neighborhood food merchant. “I don’t eat any of the solidified fish or rib eyes since I don’t confide in solidified fish or meat that costs a dollar,” she says.
Nate, a Dollar Tree chief in Minnesota, concurs. “I could never purchase the steak,” he says. “I’ve gotten notification from more than one individual that it doesn’t cook [well] and it feels like elastic.” In 2016, TV member WCPO in Cincinnati endeavored a trial, presenting the four-ounce $1 ribeye alongside a butcher’s and grocery store sliced to some zone firemen. Among the reactions: “I get it was meat” and “It’s not awful.”
6. Different STORES USE THEM TO STOCK UP.
At the point when most everything is a dollar, it’s anything but difficult to perceive any reason why markdown chains wind up going about as a distribution center for neighborhood independent ventures. Hank says that he’s watched autonomous owners coming in to stock up on things. “There is limited who runs a comfort store and purchases boxes of chocolate bars and containers of soft drink,” he says. “We likewise get a lot of occasion coordinators purchasing supplies in mass, now and again many things at once.”
7. THEY DREAD THE SIGHT OF HOT WHEELS TOY CARS.
While many toys at dollar store areas are of suspect quality, there’s at any rate one piece of stock that causes a ton of energy in walkways. “We get a great deal of the notorious ‘Hot Wheels Hunters,’” Nate says, alluding to gatherers of the prominent bite the dust cast toy vehicle line from Mattel. “I surmise they scour the web and discover when stores are getting shipments. I’ve had individuals show up multi day after my 2000-piece truck [arrives] and request I go get the one box of Hot Wheels I got so they can be the first to get them.”
On the off chance that they’re amenable, Nate will attempt to oblige them. A portion of the more pleasant Hot Wheels fans even nominate themselves as true workers. “The one person that is an incessant guest will take the crates I have and stock them flawlessly on the racks while he searches for what he needs,” Nate says.
8. THEY SELL PREGNANCY TESTS. Furthermore, THEY’RE RELIABLE.
In case you’re careful about the exactness of a home pregnancy test pack that expenses $1, well, you likely ought to be. Be that as it may, as per Nate, his store stocks a solid brand. “The pregnancy tests we sell are similar ones utilized in many medical clinics,” he says. Most all pregnancy tests recognize a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG, which is created during pregnancy. Progressively costly tests can identify lower levels prior in a pregnancy, while less expensive tests—like the ones in dollar stores—probably won’t enlist a positive until a lady is somewhat further along.
Be that as it may, they’re as yet compelling. What’s more, as indicated by Brenda and Nate, they’re likewise among the most-stolen things in their stores.
9. Inflatables KEEP THEM ALOFT.
Most Dollar Tree and numerous other dollar store areas have a counter dedicated to mylar inflatables planned for birthday parties and different occasions. That is on the grounds that the ease and simple stockpiling of the un-expanded inflatables makes them a truly gainful undertaking. “Inflatables complete a huge amount of business for Dollar Tree,” Brenda says. “A ton. Particularly for enormous occasions.”
In a given week, her store may pitch 150 to 200 inflatables: “Things being what they are, each day is somebody’s birthday, infant shower, graduation, or commemoration.”
10. THEY MIGHT WARN YOU AWAY FROM A BAD DEAL.
In case you’re going back and forth about whether a dollar buy is advantageous, you can generally ask a worker. They may let you know whether it merits the money. “I realize that the nature of our items isn’t generally the best and I clearly am not going to always bring this up to clients, however I am not reluctant to give them a touch of heads up when I realize a specific thing is particularly poor, or could be discovered a lot less expensive at a contender,” Hank says. “I realize that the organization will get by without those couple deals, and I like to satisfy clients over adding a couple of more dollars to the wallet of the organization.”
11. THE STORE MANAGER IS OFTEN OVERWORKED.
Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and different chains have experienced harsh criticism lately for entrusting store chiefs with a ton of duty so as to keep the expenses of staffing low. As per Nate, that looks at. “In my region they are preliminary running having the stores empty the semi-trucks rather than the drivers,” he says. “In any case, they won’t allow us the hours to include an additional person, which means I’m the supervisor on obligation while being in the back of a semi tossing 1800 cases.”
12. THEY CAN’T KEEP DONALD DUCK ON THE SHELVES.
In stores loaded up with a ton of new brands, clients like to see one conspicuous face: Donald Duck’s. The Disney character is up front on Dollar Tree’s squeezed orange, and his grinning bill is a standout amongst the most famous things in the stores. (The beverage is created by Citrus World, which possesses the Florida’s Natural mark and licenses the Donald symbolism and name from Disney.) “The Donald Duck squeezed orange is our third most-sold thing,” Brenda says. “Frankly, I don’t know why it’s so famous. Many individuals stop at our store while in transit to work or any place, so it’s sort of a snappy get.”

Love The Art, Hate The Artist?
Society - particularly American society - loves to demonize or to “other” art and artists.
We deride people who create:
“Oh, you’re an artist? You’re one of those.”
“Oh, you’re a writer? I wish I could sit at home all day.”
“Oh, you’re an actor? You must love starving.”
These are of course specific examples using common ideas and tropes, but these kinds of reactions are common and probably sound familiar to you.
We tell people who want to go into the arts:
“Why would you to throw your life away?”
“But you have so much potential!”
“But there’s no money in the arts!”
Being a creator is clearly seen as being *less than,* but why? Less than what? Why would we consider becoming an artist or writer or performer or designer a path that is throwing your life away or not using your skills and talents?
Well, Capitalism.
But this type of thinking and behavior not only can be unlearned, but it needs to be unlearned. Art and the products of creation are everywhere, but we’ve been conditioned to have a blind spot for most of it, and what we do see we are told to feel contempt for. Let’s just see how pervasive art is, shall we?
Visual
Let’s begin with the category that most people think of as “art.”
When you say “Visual Art,” the first thing people think of is the type of painting or photography that one might hang on the wall in a home or a place of business. Or perhaps they picture “stodgy old art” that isn’t their taste, like what hangs in museums.
Okay, then let’s start here. Why was this art created? Was it to fulfill the whimsical desires of the artist? Was it an experiment? Or an off-the-cuff creation?
Likely not.
Visual art is meant to have purpose - it’s functional. What is that function? To provide a pleasing visual aesthetic for the person purchasing the art. It’s possible the art was even commissioned originally, meaning that its sole purpose in existing is to be seen and provide visual pleasure for someone. Is this not a worthy function?
And we - as capitalist consumers - hang art everywhere. We buy photographs and prints, paintings and drawings, we frame puzzles, we order canvases, we find indie art shops, we (for better or worse) purchase “Ikea art” - and all for the purpose of enriching the visual elements of our lives.
We adore this art - so why would we deride the people who created what we love?
And Visual Art is not just the things I’ve mentioned above. It’s a gigantic category covering things that we see around us everywhere, all day every day. Here are just a few examples:
Advertisements - Posters, online ads, business cards, etc.
Logos - For businesses, for individuals, for podcasts, for the app on your phone, etc.
Cards/Invitations/Mailings - Wedding invites, birthday cards, charity solicitation mailings, theater season announcements, etc.
Design - Book covers, the shape of a Febreeze bottle, the pattern on your tissue box, etc.
Theatrical - Set, lighting, costumes, direction, performance, etc.
I could go on and on. Everywhere you look is something that some has put time, thought, and design into. That is art. And we use this art. So why deride the artist?
Auditory
First thing people think of? Songwriters.
Not composers, of course, but songwriters. People whose music we hear on the radio. People who create sound and music for the purpose of money and fame. People we worship, people we hate, people who are publicly visible, people who acquire awards, people who fill our ears through radio and streaming and headphones and coffee shop speakers.
Do some of these people make money? Yes - though not nearly as many of them as you think.
Do we love these musicians and often make idols out of them? Yes - some of them at least.
“So that’s not derision, this a a category where we celebrate art!”
But all Auditory Art? And all artists?
You may know the singer-songwriter of that song you love, but do you know the name of the person or company that produced it? How about the sound engineer? The person who mixed it? Or who edited it? Or who created the underlying beat track for the radio version?
There are far more creators on any one radio song than we ever think about.
And where else is sound created other than for the radio?
Theatre
Film
Dance
Lobby/Reception Areas
Elevators
Public Spaces
Websites
Video Games
And what about other types of sound design?
Whether or not you think about it, the lack of sound (or even silence) in a space has been purposefully created for you. Someone said “I don’t want there to be too much sound in this space” and a creator made that happen.
There are also publicly available sounds, tracks, and effects that have been created for users of programs and apps like Musical Notation Software, Recording Software, Sleep Therapy Software, etc.
Someone made everything you hear that isn’t a natural sound. And we use these sounds to create an atmosphere - a pleasing environment.
We love Auditory Art. So shouldn’t we love the artists?
Functional
People come to New York City and buy pictures and renderings of the skyline.
Why?
‘Cause it’s beautiful. It’s been designed to be beautiful.
Functional Art is a broad category that covers the pleasing artistic aesthetic of things that also serve a functional purpose in our lives - well, other than the function of being artistically pleasing.
Here’s a smattering of what could fit in this category, just from an architectural and mechanical point of view:
Building Design
Interior Design - This goes for office space, retail space, and residential space.
Bridges
Roadways
Vehicles
Airplanes
Boats/Ships
Piers
Island Barriers
Canals
Farmland
Large Machinery
Everything has been designed, whether or not you’ve noticed.
And plenty of other types of everyday objects are also included in this category:
Clothing - I’d say this is a pretty big one, especially considering diversity and range.
Furniture
Household Objects
Kitchen Gadgets
Perfumes
Scent Products - Candles, plug-ins, incense, etc.
Small Machinery - Printers, copiers, etc.
Sometimes people argue that - for things such as scent - it is scientists who find these elements and put them together to create pleasing aromas. Or engineers who created the machinery that makes the engine of a car work properly.
Yes. And we wouldn’t dare label these creators as “artists,” would we? The products are far too functional to be given that lowly title, right?
We love Functional Art. We use it. We need it. So we should love the artists as well.
Technological
We rely on technology all day every day. We carry small computers in our pockets. We use larger computers for work and for pleasure.
And someone created that. Both the insides and the outsides.
Technology is something that was created for the purpose of being functional, but that the public also demands to be constantly aesthetically pleasing. And everything that has to do with technology was imagined and created by people.
Another list:
Phones
Computers
Tablets
Hardware
Software
Apps
Programs
Cameras
Film
Coding
Websites
CGI
Electronic Instruments
Medical Equipment
Electricity Reliant Objects
Lighting -Of all varieties.
And a billion other things. And if you notice, much of this crosses over with Functional Art. These days it’s very difficult to create something useful that doesn’t rely on technology in one way or another.
The people who created all of this are artists. Why deride them?
Experiential
Now, more than most times, humans are all about experiences.
We search out activities, places, and recreations that will provide us with pleasant environments and experiences worth remembering or revisiting.
And…you guessed it…artists created it all. Top to bottom, left to right, forward to back, and in a thousand other ways we didn’t even know existed.
Some of these include:
Movies
TV Shows
Theme Parks - Disney anyone?
Theatre
Concerts
Dance
News Articles/Papers/Programs
Books
Sport Stadium Interiors - You can go to a Mets game just for the experiences at CitiField!
Gardens
Parks
Bowling Alleys
Rock Climbing Walls
Dining Spaces
Food
Alcohol
Travel Excursions
Anything that you go to, or bring to yourself, in order to engage in an experience can be considered Experiential Art.
We fill our lives with this stuff. We discuss it all regularly. We create cultural norms and build conversations around this art. We argue about episodes. We share our favorite meals.
It’s all art. So why deride the artists?
It’s Everywhere
Art is not a high concept that can be boxed into a corner. Art is not created in a vacuum. Art is not purely aesthetic. Art is not something only the wealthy experience.
Art has function. Art has meaning. Art enriches lives. Art allows us to live. Art helps us survive.
Art is all around us and we use it every day. And we love it - we don’t put it down or tell it to go away. We don’t call the art around us a waste or time, or life, or potential.
So why deride the artist?
