Here's my little piece on (P1) Utopianism and orientalism/Utopian co-opting of (other) cultures (and some broadly Asian fun facts):
What's always struck me is the undercurrent of Asian aesthetic influence in P1 and one obvious reason for why it's there at all is the fact that they're bordering Mongolia and China. Many Eurasian nomads are artistically influenced by regional, cultural styles in the middle east, India, China, etc. that central and southern Asian area. But since the Kin's artistic aesthetic (in P1) reflect a utilitarianism use of leather and, broadly speaking, the Earth, where this influence appears most is with the Utopians.
Take Eva Yan, for example! I've only heard her clothes described as "strange," but the style is very reminiscent of a certain kind of dress ...
She's wearing something close to an Indian petticoat and blouse, but she's missing the saree. It might actually be what's around her neck. Indian blouses typically end above the stomach and are either long-sleeved (like what Eva's wearing) or go to the elbows. It even looks like the material might be the same, which would be silk. It seems to me that Eva Yan is doing in P1 what she's doing in P2; she's taking all of her favorite parts of a certain culture's dress and outfitting it to her tastes. Indian clothes are designed to be breathable, but Eva uses that design to look alluring. I would say that the Stamatins do the same thing in their own way; The Broken Heart's interior design and opium pipes evoke the Western-exported idea of Asian drug dens and they name their dead colleague Farkhad, based off the Persian story of Khosrow and Shirin, whether he was Persian, in the area or not - we wouldn't know.
Maria(and Eva?)'s occasional use of the honorific en-Daniil is reflective of this, too. "en" is short for "encik" and is a Malaysian convention. The reason why it's "en-Daniil" and not "en-Dankovsky" is because Malaysian names are structured like "Razak bin Osman," where the "bin" means "son of." It would be odd to call someone "Mister son of Osman," so it's either "en-Razak" or "en-Razak bin Osman."
Off the top of my head, those are the most explicit examples ... and, obviously, the Utopians all use the Kin's culture and aesthetics, too, and incorporate whatever about it interests them into their lifestyles. That aside (or not), as for why the Utopians specifically do this --- it may really be because they live in Asia. Personally, I interpret this as a very individualistic case of orientalism that expresses how Utopians seek out aesthetic beauty and concepts they find both appealing and "other" --- whether this is natural-law-breaking ideas or other cultures. I think this is a very cherry-picked kind of admiration.
#pathologic#eva yan#maria kaina#andrey stamatin#peter stamatin#not to say that its “good” or “bad” just that they do it yk#if anyone else has other examples...#man-of-letters

The Eel Deal
This was my first time drawing Frye’s face, and it was honestly one of the most rewarding fan art experiences of my life. She has such a good design!! OMG she has such an amazing design and I never really realized it until now…!
…I think it’s because I’ve never really seen her design rendered in a ‘hybrid-toon’ style like this, with her features ever so slightly exaggerated for effect. Tbh, I’m one of the very few Splatoon artists I’ve seen who draws like this; most artists either do ‘chibi-anime’, ‘semi-realism’ (there are SO many semi-realistic Splatoon artists; and it’s hilarious because you’d think it’d be the opposite), or something reflective of their own unique style that’s not really ‘on model’. And all that is fine, but with a design as unusual as Frye’s it means you never get to see how well it works in 2D all on its own. And it works SO WELL
Anyway, speaking of design: you may have noticed my final ‘bandit’ design for Frye changed a lot from its first draft, just like Shiver’s. I did like the original jacket, but I felt like I needed something less generic for the real thing. So I came up with this abstract shawl-looking thing, designed to resemble the pallu of the Indian saree. The long drape at the back kinda mirrors the shape of Shiver’s kimono-sleeves, which I’m very happy about. ^^
So in this re-concept, Frye’s eels have a job just like Master Mega does, albeit a less-mandatory one: if you feed them Power Eggs, they will accompany you into the lab spaces to search for things: secret rooms, locker decorations, and other hidden collectibles that contribute to your “percent completion” of the game. I imagine this as something you set up before entering a level, like the weapon select screen…maybe it could even be semi-interactive; like Agent 3 holding up different items for the eels to sniff, each one corresponding to something you can tell them to find for you. ^^
I also think it would be cool if, the more times you borrow the eels this way, the lower their Power Egg price becomes, as if you’re gradually ‘training’ them to help you. Maybe once you get down to the lowest possible price, Frye could congratulate you on becoming an ‘Honorary Eel-Charmer’ and give you a prize; something like that~

hello! im a huge fan of dotty and have been for a couple years now. what what your design process for her like? can we see some earlier concepts/progress pics?
Ah Tyty! I don’t have a ton of design stuff for Dot bc she was made pretty quickly for a campaign in 2020 but I’ll pull what I can
Apologies for the shit phone photos I had to dig through old college notebooks for these lol. Anyways the original inspo for Dot came from a conversation my sister and I had about CR’s Percy and his teifling kid and how cool a rich girl gunslinging teifling would be. My first few passes at Dotty were very whimsical steampunk but I eventually decided I wanted her to have a more elegant silhouette. I also wanted her to have short little velvety horns that never grew in all the way, kinda like a baby deer
I ended up pulling a lot more from 1900s and 1950s style and mixed in a bunch of belts to make it fantasy I also wanted to do a darker color pallet bc you don’t usually see that on hero type characters. It was actually my DM at the time and her world building that lead me to the desi part of her design/backstory.
In Dots original game the DM fashioned her her home country as inspired by India during British occupation. Dotty was pushed by her family to conform to “common” (western) standards, including changing her name (her birth name is actually Dipti! And her cousins name is Rajesh)
I added the saree to her final design after it was gifted to her in game by her mom and gave her some porcelain pistols to match (tho those didn’t make it into baulders gate haha)

Types of Ladies' Suits: Styles That Suit Every Occasion
The world of women’s fashion has always been a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity. Among the most versatile and stylish wardrobe essentials are suits, which have evolved to cater to diverse preferences and occasions. With countless suit designs for ladies, women today can choose styles that reflect their personality and meet the demands of different events. Interestingly, just as sarees come with various draping methods, the concept of suits too offers unique variations that ensure there’s something for everyone. Exploring these options can be as delightful as understanding the different types of saree wearing, both offering endless opportunities for self-expression.
Classic Suit Designs for Ladies
1. Pantsuits
Pantsuits are the epitome of elegance and functionality, making them a popular choice for professional and semi-formal settings. With tailored trousers and matching blazers, this design offers a polished look that never goes out of style. Variations include wide-leg, slim-fit, and cropped trousers, ensuring versatility for every body type.
2. Skirt Suits
Combining femininity with sophistication, skirt suits pair fitted blazers with skirts of various lengths. Pencil skirts are ideal for corporate environments, while flared or pleated skirts add a playful touch for more relaxed occasions.
3. Tunic and Trouser Suits
Inspired by traditional ethnic wear, tunic and trouser suits are a blend of comfort and elegance. This style is particularly popular in regions where cultural elements influence daily fashion. It’s a great option for formal gatherings or festive events.
4. Tuxedo Suits
For a bold and statement-making look, tuxedo suits are an excellent choice. Featuring satin lapels and sleek silhouettes, these suits are perfect for evening parties or formal galas. Pair them with heels or statement jewelry for a glamorous finish.
5. Casual Suits
Casual suits feature relaxed cuts and lightweight fabrics, making them ideal for brunches, vacations, or creative workspaces. They often come in vibrant prints and pastel shades, reflecting a laid-back yet stylish vibe.
Modern Variations of Ladies' Suits
1. Jumpsuit Suits
A modern take on traditional suits, jumpsuit suits combine the ease of one-piece clothing with the sophistication of tailored designs. These suits are perfect for cocktail parties, date nights, or semi-formal events.
2. Belted Suits
Adding a belt to a classic suit elevates its structure and draws attention to the waistline. This modern twist works well for both office wear and stylish daywear.
3. Printed Suits
For those who love to stand out, printed suits in floral, geometric, or abstract patterns bring a vibrant energy to the outfit. They are ideal for outdoor events, creative workplaces, or fashion-forward gatherings.
4. Cape Suits
Cape suits add a dramatic flair to traditional tailoring. With a flowing cape attached to the blazer or as a separate piece, this style is perfect for weddings, red carpets, or special occasions.
5. Eco-Friendly Suits
Sustainable fashion is on the rise, and eco-friendly suits crafted from organic fabrics or recycled materials are becoming a favorite among conscious consumers. These suits are stylish, environmentally friendly, and aligned with modern values.
Styling Tips for Ladies' Suits
Accessorize Thoughtfully: Accessories such as bold necklaces, elegant earrings, or a statement clutch can elevate your suit’s overall appeal.
Experiment with Shoes: From stilettos to sneakers, the right footwear can transform the look of your suit.
Play with Colors and Textures: Don’t hesitate to explore unconventional shades or pair textured fabrics for a unique outfit.
Layer Creatively: Add scarves, turtlenecks, or even crop tops beneath blazers for a fresh take on classic designs.
A Cultural Parallel: Sarees and Suits
The versatility of suits for ladies draws an interesting parallel with sarees. Just as there are different types of saree wearing, each with its own cultural and regional identity, suits too offer a range of designs to suit varied tastes and occasions. While sarees reflect traditional elegance, suits often merge modern trends with classic tailoring. Together, these garments celebrate the diversity and richness of women’s fashion.
Why Suits are a Timeless Choice
Suits for ladies are no longer confined to boardrooms or formal settings. They’ve become a canvas for creative expression, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary trends. Whether you’re looking for a professional ensemble, a glamorous party outfit, or a casual yet chic attire, the wide array of suit designs for ladies ensures there’s always an option that fits your needs.
Final Thoughts
Fashion is about versatility, and ladies' suits epitomize this concept beautifully. From pantsuits to jumpsuit designs, each style reflects the evolving role of women in society while honouring their unique preferences. Like the different types of saree wearing, the variety in suit designs ensures there’s always room for individuality and experimentation. Whether for work, a celebration, or casual outings, finding the perfect suit is a journey worth embracing—one that merges timeless elegance with modern flair.

From handwoven classics to modern designer saree for women, the journey of the saree is a fascinating tale of tradition meeting modernity.
The Timeless Appeal of Sarees
For centuries, the womens saree has been a staple in Indian wardrobes. Each region in India boasts its unique saree style, weaving technique, and fabric choice, such as Banarasi silk, Kanjeevaram, and Chanderi. These timeless creations reflect the rich cultural heritage of the country, making sarees a cherished heirloom passed down through generations.
However, as lifestyles changed, so did the preferences of the modern woman. While traditional sarees remain close to the heart, there is a growing demand for ladies saree designs that blend age-old craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
The Rise of Designer Sarees

Designers have reimagined the saree, introducing innovative draping styles, unique fabrics, and modern embellishments. The Timeless Elegance of Drape Sarees
The saree, a quintessential Indian garment, has evolved over centuries into a symbol of grace and tradition. Among the various styles of saree draping, the drape saree stands out for its unique charm and versatility. This article explores the beauty, significance, and styles of drape sarees, making them an essential addition to every woman's wardrobe.
What is a Drape Saree?
A drape saree refers to the way a saree is elegantly wrapped around the body, creating a seamless blend of style and comfort. Unlike traditional saree draping methods, which may require intricate pleating and tucking, drape sarees emphasize flowing lines and a more relaxed silhouette. The draping technique enhances the saree's fabric, allowing it to fall gracefully, creating an illusion of height and elegance.
Historical Significance
The history of the saree dates back thousands of years, with references found in ancient texts and sculptures. Traditionally, sarees were made from natural fibers like silk, cotton, and linen, and their designs often reflected the regional culture and craftsmanship of India. Drape sarees, in particular, have roots in various regions, showcasing different draping styles influenced by local traditions.
The concept of draping is not only practical but also deeply symbolic. In many cultures, the way a woman drapes her saree can reflect her marital status, social standing, and even her personality. The drape saree embodies the spirit of femininity and celebrates the diverse aesthetics of Indian culture.
Versatility and Comfort
One of the key advantages of drape sarees is their versatility. They can be worn for various occasions, from casual outings to formal events. Drape sarees are perfect for women who seek a balance between traditional attire and modern comfort.
Casual Wear: For a casual day out, a lightweight cotton drape saree in bright colors can make a vibrant statement. Pair it with minimal accessories and comfortable footwear for a chic yet laid-back look.
Festive Occasions: For festive celebrations, opt for sarees in rich fabrics like silk or georgette with intricate embroidery or embellishments. A well-draped saree can enhance your elegance, making you stand out during festivities.
Office Wear: Many women prefer drape sarees for professional settings, as they provide a polished and sophisticated appearance. Choosing neutral tones or subtle prints can help maintain a professional look while still embracing traditional attire.
Different Styles of Drape Sarees
Drape sarees can be styled in numerous ways, allowing women to express their individuality. Here are some popular draping styles:
Nivi Drape: Originating from Andhra Pradesh, the Nivi drape is one of the most popular styles in India. The saree is wrapped around the waist, with pleats falling in front and the pallu draped over the shoulder. This style is easy to wear and can be accessorized with a wide variety of blouses.
Bengali Drape: Characterized by its unique draping technique, the Bengali drape emphasizes the pallu's heavy detailing. The saree is draped from the back and brought around the body, showcasing elaborate motifs and traditional designs. This style is perfect for special occasions and festive events.
Maharashtrian Drape: In this style, the saree is draped in a way that resembles a dhoti, with the pallu falling gracefully over the shoulder. This drape is often paired with traditional Maharashtrian jewelry, enhancing the cultural significance of the attire.
Gujarati Drape: The Gujarati drape is known for its intricate embroidery and vibrant colors. The pallu is draped in a way that it creates a canopy effect over the head, adding a touch of elegance and charm.
Lehenga Drape: For those who love the flair of a lehenga, the lehenga drape saree combines the elegance of a saree with the twirl of a lehenga. The fabric is arranged to give the illusion of a flared skirt, perfect for weddings and festive celebrations.
Accessorizing Drape Sarees
The right accessories can elevate the look of a drape saree. Here are some tips to accessorize effectively:
Jewelry: Opt for statement jewelry that complements the saree’s color and design. Traditional pieces like jhumkas, chokers, or bangles can enhance the overall look.
Footwear: Choose comfortable yet stylish footwear. Heels can add height and elegance, while traditional juttis or sandals provide comfort.
Makeup: A subtle makeup look with a bold lip color can enhance your features. Consider a bindi or maang tikka for a traditional touch.
Caring for Drape Sarees
To maintain the beauty and longevity of drape sarees, proper care is essential. Here are some tips:
Washing: Hand wash your sarees with mild detergent. Avoid using harsh chemicals that can damage the fabric.
Storage: Store sarees in a cool, dry place, preferably in cotton bags to prevent dust accumulation. Ensure that they are folded neatly to avoid creasing.
Ironing: Use a low-temperature iron to smooth out any wrinkles. Always place a thin cloth between the iron and the saree to protect delicate fabrics.
Conclusion
Drape sarees are a celebration of Indian culture and femininity, blending tradition with modernity. Their versatility, elegance, and ease of wear make them a must-have in every woman's wardrobe. Whether you choose a casual cotton drape for a day out or an exquisite silk saree for a wedding, the drape saree offers endless possibilities for expression and style. Embrace the beauty of drape sarees and let them tell your unique story.
