Smilexcellence can take care of your family’s general dental needs, providing preventive and restorative dentistry treatments designed to protect and prolong the life of your natural teeth.
If you wish to improve the appearance of your teeth, we offer a tempting choice of cosmetic dentistry treatments. We also provide dental implants, a modern and long-lasting treatment to restore missing teeth.
Single Visit Crowns
Dental implant treatment is extremely versatile and can replace just a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Single missing teeth are restored with an implant crown. At Smilexellence we use CEREC for restorations in one visit. That means same day crowns and bridges, without temporary or follow-up visits. The CEREC technology is a computer-controlled milling restoration system that allows for a more time-efficient option to restore smiles, without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Before CEREC was introduced, if a patient needed a filling in one visit it meant either amalgam or resin material was used. Now we have a single visit filling material which is strong, looks good and much more resistant to wear over time. Our chosen CAD/CAM system is CEREC, the best available. For more information, please speak to our friendly team on +61 483 966 544.
CEREC scanner
CEREC is a sophisticated CAD/CAM system for the production of all ceramic inlays, onlays, partial crowns, veneers and crowns for anterior and posterior teeth. The CEREC procedure was developed at Zurich University and has been successfully deployed in dental practices since 1985 – i.e for more than 25 years. These ceramic restorations can be created and placed during a single appointment, with no impressions or temporary needed.
Cone Beam
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an advanced imaging system, allowing us to construct 3D images of your facial and dental structures. We can virtually /digitally peel layers off your scanned anatomy to look deeper into critical structures and tissues from different angles, this is compared with conventional x- rays that only provide a single static 2D image.
Our CBCT scanner provides our dental team with critical information about your teeth and jaws, and other important facial structures, including nerve canals, nasal and sinus cavities and some blood vessels. The scanner is similar to a conventional CT scanner, but it emits far less radiation. It can emit less radiation than a flight to Darwin exposes you to and even less radiation than our last x-ray machine.
OPG
OPG is short for Orthopantomagram and is a panoramic scanning dental X-ray of the lower and upper jaw. This radiograph is used to identify the hard tissues of the oral cavity and it allows images of multiple angles to be taken.
An OPG gives the dentist a clear picture of the number, growth, and position of all the patient’s teeth. It can for example discover wisdom teeth, orthodontic needs, and the development of a child’s jaw and teeth.
iTero scanner
The iTero scanner takes accurate 3D digital images of your mouth, it is a compact, hand-held wand. The iTero scanner digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums. After the scan is complete, the data is sent over to a lab that will create physical 3D models of your teeth, and those models are then used to create your aligners. The process is quick and easy and patient comfort is guaranteed.

Ossian Sweet (October 30, 1895 – March 20, 1960) was an American physician. He is most notable for his self-defense in 1925 of his newly purchased home in a white neighborhood against a mob attempting to force him out of the neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan, and the subsequent acquittal by an all-white jury of murder charges against him, his family, and friends who helped defend his home, in what came to be known as the Sweet Trials.
Physician Ossian Haven Sweet was born on October 30, 1895 in Orlando, Florida, the son of Henry Sweet, a Methodist minister and farmer, and Dora DeVaughn. He was the second of nine children (one of whom, his older brother Oscar, died in childhood). In 1910 he journeyed to Xenia, Ohio, to attend Wilberforce Academy and complete his schooling. He graduated with a college degree in 1917. That September he enrolled in the medical school at Howard University. In 1921 he received his medical degree and moved to Detroit, Michigan, a fast-growing city with plenty of opportunities for a new physician, to establish his fledgling medical practice. In 1922 he married Gladys Mitchell, who was from an established family in Detroit. For their honeymoon the Sweets traveled to Europe for a year of study and touring. After taking graduate courses in pediatrics and gynecology at the University of Vienna during 1923, Sweet journeyed to Paris to study radiology at the Curie Institute. The next year, while in Paris, the Sweets' daughter Marguerite was born (the year before they had lost a son through miscarriage). In the fall of 1924 they returned to Detroit and moved in with Gladys's mother.
Ossian Sweet soon sought better housing for his new family, and in the summer of 1925 purchased a house at 2905 Garland Avenue in a lower-middle-class white area in northeastern Detroit. The choice of neighborhood for Sweet, who was African American, was fateful. Detroit's African American population had increased nearly tenfold during the previous decade, spurred by wartime production and the new automobile industry. Some of Detroit's whites reacted with dismay and, stirred up by an active Ku Klux Klan, with violence. Whites had already forced several African American families to leave homes in formerly white neighborhoods. Rocks had been thrown and shots were fired, but so far no one had died from these incidents. By the time Sweet moved into his home in early September, whites in the area had formed a "Waterworks Park Improvement Association" dedicated to blocking any African American encroachment into the Garland Avenue area.
On September 8,1925, Ossian Sweet, his wife, his two brothers--Henry, a law student, and Otis, a dentist--along with seven other friends moved Sweet's few pieces of furniture into his new house on Garland Avenue. Along with the furniture, Sweet brought a supply of guns and ammunition to his new house. That night a crowd taunted the Sweets, but nothing much happened. The next morning, however, a crowd of whites began to congregate across the street from the house. How many were in the crowd became a matter of debate, but it could have been as many as four or five hundred people. As evening fell, rocks and stones struck the house and windows were shattered. Suddenly, several shots came from the Sweet house. Across the street Leon Breiner fell dead--shot in the back--while standing on the front door of a neighbor's house, and another man, Eric Houghberg, received a bullet wound in his leg. The police, who had been keeping watch over the house, immediately arrested Sweet, his wife, and his companions, denied them access to legal counsel, and tossed them in the city jail. They were all charged with assault, murder, and conspiracy to commit murder, and they were denied bail.
James Weldon Johnson, the executive secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, quickly saw that the Sweet case had national implications for African American home-ownership rights. Johnson dispatched his assistant, Walter White, to convince Clarence Darrow to serve as lead defense attorney. Darrow, who had made his fame fighting prominent civil liberties cases, readily took on this new assignment, although he was sixty-eight and still tired from the recent Scopes trial in Tennessee. He was assisted by Arthur Garfield Hays, another well-known civil rights attorney who had labored with Darrow in Tennessee, along with several African American lawyers from Detroit. The prosecution was led by the district attorney, Robert M. Toms, and his assistant, Lester S. Moll. The trial, which began on 30 October 1925, was presided over by thirty-five-year-old Frank Murphy, who would later serve as mayor of Detroit, governor of Michigan, and associate justice of the Supreme Court.
The trial before an all-white jury lasted most of November 1925, with a parade of witnesses on both sides. The prosecution called over seventy individuals to the stand in an effort to argue that the crowd outside the house was quite small and peaceful. Darrow countered that if the legal definition of a mob was twenty-five people, the seventy witnesses clearly demonstrated that a much larger group was probably in attendance that night. The crux of the issue centered on two basic questions: Did Ossian Sweet and his companions fear for their lives? And did any man, white or black, have the right to defend his home from perceived attack? The prosecution argued that, threatened or not, Sweet and his companions did not have the right to shoot unarmed people. As the trial approached its climax, Ossian Sweet was called to the stand, where his calm testimony proved crucial to the eventual outcome:
When I opened the door and saw that mob, I realized in a way that it was that same mob that had hounded my people through its entire history. I realized my back was against the wall and I was filled with a peculiar type of fear--the fear of one who knows the history of my race.
Despite deliberating for over forty-six hours, the jury could not agree on a verdict, and Judge Murphy declared a mistrial. Henry Sweet was subsequently tried separately and acquitted of all charges, and by May 1926 the charges against the rest of the defendants had been dropped. Although the Sweet trial ended in victory for Sweet, efforts to restrict African American home ownership by various legal means continued unabated throughout the United States until the Supreme Court declared such practices illegal in Shelley v. Kraemer (1948).
For Ossian Sweet, his acquittal was bittersweet. He returned to his bungalow on Garland Avenue and his medical practice, but he suffered the loss of his daughter in 1926 from tuberculosis. The same disease claimed Gladys, at the age of twenty-seven, in 1928. Ossian later purchased a small drugstore and managed several small hospitals. He married twice more, but each one ended in divorce. Turning to politics, he unsuccessfully sought election to the state senate, and another time he tried--again without success--for a seat in the U.S. Congress. Finally, in ill health with acute arthritis and in debt from failed businesses, he took his own life.

The only grave is Essex: how the county became London's dumping ground
more here in the GUARDIAN thank you!
The decision to re-bury 3,000 skeletons from the old Bedlam hospital at a cemetery in Essex is nothing new. From dead bodies to sewage, factories to holiday homes for the underclass, Essex has long been a receptacle for what genteel London finds too dirty
When undertaker John Harris was tasked with the reburial of the 3,300 skeletons that were discovered in 2015 by the Crossrail tunnellers under the site of the infamous Bedlam hospital at Liverpool Street station, he found there was no room left in London’s cemeteries. So, he did what any self-respecting East Ender does when they feel the capital has deserted them – he found a nice spot in Essex to rest his bones.
“There isn’t the burial space in London, just like there isn’t the housing,” says Harris, the director of T Cribb and Sons, one of the oldest family-run funeral directors in east London. The plot he found for the Bedlam skeletons was in Willow cemetery on Canvey Island, reclaimed land in the Thames estuary. “In Essex, it gets cheaper to bury people, the same way it gets cheaper to buy a house.”
When Crossrail opens it will further solidify Essex’s role as a commuter haven for London – the Oyster card’s zone of use has moved further east, now stretching to the hubs of Shenfield and Brentwood. But just as London’s reach has spread east, so too has the passage of London’s dead into Essex been a tradition since the dawn of the steam engine. “Since the very first railway lines were built in London, pretty much all of them have required various cemeteries to be removed,” says Crossrail’s chief archaeologist, Jay Carver. “Crossrail is following that tradition: where graveyards need to be cleared, they’re reburied, generally on the outskirts of London.”
Indeed, for centuries, Essex has been London’s dumping ground – and not just for bones. The fate of the Bedlam skeletons is just the most recent in a wider tale of the effect of London’s relentless growth on its long-suffering neighbour. From gargantuan landfills to oil refineries, it sometimes seems as though the entire county of Essex has acted as a receptacle for what is deemed too dirty for the city itself.
When, in 1979, conservative England’s reactionary nimby-in-chief James Wentworth Day wrote in The Book of Essex that “Essex is becoming the dustbin of London”, he was referring to housing. “Endless acres of featureless bungalows, jerry-built houses,” is how he described the homes built to accommodate the spread of Londoners into the county. Much of what we now think of as Essex derives from this flow, from the ever-growing city into its neighbouring county: the new towns and commuter developments into which London has “decanted” its excess people.
In Essex, it gets cheaper to bury people, the same way it gets cheaper to buy a house
But before wholesale migration to new estates in Dagenham, Basildon or further afield, London’s East Enders used Essex as way to find temporary solace from the slum-filled city. In the 19th century, there were anarchic “land colonies”, which brought destitute east Londoners work in rural outposts, in a supposed bid to strengthen the poor’s moral fibre. Then, in the 20th century, there were the plotland developments.
Plotland premises were holiday homes, with a unique twist: they were often built of London’s detritus. From train carriages to old doors and sheds, East Enders used bits of London to build homes from Canvey Island to Clacton – a tangible representation of the leakage of the overpopulated city into the vacant countryside. Sometimes the dismantling of the establishment was literal. One Canvey development was built from the remnants of a Georgian home in Battersea that had been used by William Wilberforce and his fellow slave-trade abolitionists. The new Essex emigre was akin to a Borrower or a Womble: what London no longer needed, they eagerly pounced upon.
A dream destination for cramped cockneys, Essex was nevertheless perceived as downmarket by the middle classes – a place that was physically and metaphorically downwind of the acrid factory air. As in many other cities in industrial-age Europe, the prevailing westerly wind dictated that only the less solvent pitched up in the east of the city. Essex’s undesirable combination of industrial wasteland and weekend getaway for London’s underclass disturbed genteel onlookers. In a book on the home counties, published in tandem with the 1951 Festival of Britain, writer RSR Fitter lambasted the “industrial development along the Thames estuary, the many holiday towns, and such unplanned calamities as Canvey Island”.
The practice of using the land east of Tower Bridge to dump noxious industry and waste management is a long one. “Bovril” boats – so-called due to the rich, brown hue of their pungent cargo brought from the sewerage works of east London and dumped at the mouth of the Thames – were an Estuary tradition for more than 110 years, until the practice of sloshing the capital’s excrement into the brine was phased out in 1998.
At around the same time as the Bovril boats first started their trade, east London vestries such as Mile End bought up land in Essex with the intention of using barges and steam tugs to shift the rubbish they didn’t have space for. In 1889, Kensington began sending its rubbish to Purfleet, in what is now the unitary borough of Thurrock. As Lee Jackson recounts in his history of the filthy capital, Dirty Old London, an LCC official cut to the chase when describing the reason for using Essex as a place to dump waste: “The natural solution is to shoot it in some sparsely inhabited district, where public opinion is not strong enough to effectually resent it being deposited.” Essex was out of the way – an extremely convenient place for London’s political class to shift the stuff the powerful did not want in their backyard.
The practice continues to this day. Last summer, five men from different London locations, including a dentist and a pharmacist, were sentenced after their waste was dumped by unlicensed disposal companies in what became a mile-long fly-tipping site at Purfleet. Epping Forest spends a significant portion of its budget dealing with tonnes of illegally tipped rubbish.
Essex has also become a kind of dumping ground for people. Thurrock, situated in a no-man’s-land between the city and its green-fringed commuter belt, has been earmarked as one possible solution to London’s housing crisis. Last year, London councils paid private landlords to house more than 80 homeless families in Thurrock, which put a strain on the borough’s already precarious homeless problem. “They just pay more than we can here,” said John Kent, Labour leader of Thurrock council in September 2015. “Which has a knock-on effect. So we are now really, really struggling to keep apace with the increasing homelessness.”
As the closest Essex borough to London, the question of what to do about Thurrock’s role as a de facto dumping ground has become mantra-like. The passage of major road traffic through Thurrock, and the factories pumping out chemicals, have contributed to making its air some of the most toxic in the country. For years, the pollution and loss of manufacturing kept house prices down, though there was recently a 17% surge in property values after Thurrock found itself one of the only places many Londoners could afford to buy a home.
Mucking Marsh in Thurrock was one of the largest landfills in western Europe, taking on 660,000 tonnes of rubbish from the dustbins of west London each year, brought downriver on barges every day before dawn. “It could be seen from space,” says Graham Harwood, a Goldsmiths academic and artist based in Southend. He and his wife, Matsuko Yokokoji, run the art initiative YoHa, whose recent project Wrecked in the Intertidal Zoneunpicked the Essex estuary’s hidden past. “Up until about 1994, they didn’t record what went in the landfill – there were a lot of toxic cocktails.”
Harwood says he has been told by some former drivers at Mucking they would lock themselves in their cab to avoid the stench of gases that came out of the ground. “There was no protection for the drivers, nothing. Sometimes they would see tyres melting.”
In 2012, Mucking Marsh stopped taking rubbish, and has been named a site of special scientific interest due to its complex toxicity. Yet it was also recently converted into a nature reserve – by DP World, the company behind the new London Gateway port. Similarly, the landfill Two Tree Island, downriver from Mucking, was converted back into public land in the 1970s, even though some areas are still deemed too dangerous for the public. Evidence of its past is pushing through nonetheless: blackberries, apples, pears, damsons, plums and cherries now all grow from the former dump.
Another large landfill site at Pitsea is earmarked to be transformed by the RSPB in the next decade. Many of the hills along the estuary – at Beckton and Rainham, for example – might look geological, but are in fact the remnants of former dumping grounds.
Long after the abused landscape has been cleaned up, it lives on, both in soil and in memory. “I remember going to the beach and trying to swim in the estuary one summer in the 1980s,” writes author Rachel Lichtenstein of younger days in Southend in her new book Estuary. “Police were walking up and down the shoreline, warning people of the dangers; there were rumours that there was a risk of polio and other infections from the filthy water drifting in on the tide.”
The mud keeps the rich away … The last thing I want to see is a regenerated Essex
I grew up in Southend too, and remember a similar fear of the murky water: Ian Dury famously contracted polio from paddling in the water at Southend in the late 1940s. Though our home was suffixed with the words “-on-Sea”, we Southenders imagined what might be floating down the river from London to greet us: remains of bodies offloaded by imagined gangsters, raw sewage, three-eyed toxic fish.
It’s the tension between the city and its unwanted sprawl that has given Essex its role as London’s put-upon other. Essex’s noted inferiority complex, fostered through media caricatures, is rooted in its status as a place consigned to such fates. An upshot of this is an attitude not too dissimilar to Millwall supporters: no one likes us, we don’t care. “It’s a great protector – the mud keeps the rich away,” says Goldsmith’s Harwood when I asked him about Essex being cleaned up and sanitised. “I really worry about it. The last thing I want to see is a regenerated Essex. That would be the end for me. It’s got fantastic character.”
Crossrail has been dumping more than just skeletons in Essex. The RSPB is using more than 3m tonnes of material excavated from Crossrail’s tunnel digs to raise part of Wallasea Island at the mouth of the Thames by an average of 1.5m, transforming farmland into coastal marshland and creating lagoons across 670 hectares to supposedly “restore” the marshland to the state it was 500 years ago. Not everyone is thrilled with the outcome: some local fishermen complained that the alterations to the coastline have depleted fish breeding grounds and pose a risk to oyster beds, claims that the RSPB and Crossrail dispute. “We did some water quality testing and proved we have not caused any issues,” says the RSPB’s Wallasea Island project manager Chris Tyas. “Changes in fish populations are more likely caused by wetter winters.”
A Crossrail exhibition called Tunnel: the archaeology of Crossrail will open at the Museum of London Docklands in February 2017, featuring one of the skeletons found at Bedlam, which DNA shows died from plague. It is also planning to install a memorial to Bedlam’s dead at Willow cemetery on Canvey, and another at Liverpool Street station in London – marking the perpetual eastern passage of London’s emigres, whether dead or alive. The old insecurity remains. “There were loads of rumours,” says John Harris about locals’ reaction to the news that the Bedlam “plague pit” skeletons were coming to their neighbourhood. “One was we were bringing the black death to Canvey. You get these visions of the grim reaper.”
He even consulted the World Health Organisation and went on the radio to dispel local fears about safety. “The interviewer said it was funny: people who move here have usually left London and found a sanctuary in Essex – and it’s the same for the remains that we are bringing,” he said. “Except these people have been dead a few hundred years.”

Smilexcellence's Emergency Dentist Windsor Will Help With Broken or Fractured Teeth
Emergency Dentist: Get Help Now with Our Emergency Dental Services
A Bit About Dental Emergency
Few things make you panic, like dental emergencies, a tooth knocked or a loose crown.
A dental emergency is a situation that involves the teeth, gums or mouth that requires immediate action or attention. Here are some common examples of dental emergencies:
Severe Tooth Pain: Like infection or dental abscess, severe tooth pain requires immediate treatment. Intense or persistent tooth pain can also indicate a dental emergency.
Broken or Fractured Teeth: Accidents, falls, or sports injuries can cause fractures, chips, or complete breaks in teeth, leading to pain and potential infection.
Knocked-Out Tooth (Avulsed Tooth): It can always be urgent in adults. It is essential to contact if you are suffering from the root of the tooth.
Dental Abscess: A dental abscess is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or in the space between the teeth and gums. It must be treated immediately; otherwise, it can cause extreme swelling, pus formation, and severe discomfort.
Severe Gum or Soft Tissue Injury: Injuries to the gums or soft tissues of the mouth, such as lacerations or puncture wounds, can cause severe problems, so they must be treated on time.
Loose or Dislodged Fillings or Crowns: When dental fillings or crowns become loose or dislodged, they can expose the underlying tooth structure, leading to sensitivity or pain. Therefore, any further damage requires immediate action.
What to Expect During Your Emergency Dental Visit?
Our dentist will conduct an oral examination and inquire about your symptoms upon arrival. After diagnosing the issue, they'll treat it, often administering local anesthesia for comfort.
Important: The primary agenda of an emergency dental appointment is pain relief and resolution of the dental problem. Follow-up visits are significant from time to time for better results.
If you have a dental emergency Clarendon, don't hesitate to contact us for immediate assistance. Your oral health and comfort are our top priorities at SmilExcellence.
