The Vital Role of Dental Mirrors in Oral Care
One of the instruments used in dental practice the most frequently is the dental mirror. They enable dentists and hygienists to carry out a number of operations with accuracy and precision by giving a good image of the patient’s teeth and gums. A dentistry mirror is often a tiny, portable device with a handle, a shank, and a flat reflective surface. Typically composed of glass or metal, the…

Gum Line [Yandere Mahito x Reader[
Title: Gum Line [Yandere Mahito x Reader]
Synopsis: You need to get your teeth cleaned and Mahito wants to watch.
Word count: 1740
notes: yandere, mentions of death and violence, mentions of past injury on reader, reader is getting their teeth cleaned, Mahito

“You really don’t need to come,” you hissed lowly. “It’s fine. Really. It’s just a quick cleaning.”
Mahito puffed out his cheeks and peered through the glass door into the waiting room. “But I want to come. I’ve never been to a dentist. I want to see what they do to you.”
The receptionist was, at this point, staring at you and made a come-in gesture with her hands. You were standing out there too long for it to be normal. So you sighed and put your hand on the knob.
“Fine.” You bit out the words and regretted them as soon as they left your lips, but there was no taking it back. It didn’t matter, anyway. He was going to come in with or without your agreement.
“You can watch, just… just try to stay out of the way, okay? Please? I really need this cleaning.”
“Yay!” His cheer was too loud and too close, but he never cared about that, did he? Mahito wrapped his arm around yours and flung the door open with his other, only to pull you into the office with a giddy delight. To everyone else, it must have looked like you accidentally almost-tripped over the threshold after entering too quickly.
“S-Sorry,” you said, breathless, smiling, to the receptionist. “I’m a bit clumsy today.”
She smiled back, all prim and professional. But you wondered what she must be thinking. You were standing up far too straight, sweat on your forehead, and you’d just been standing there at the door muttering to yourself before you stumbled inside like a drunkard.
“You know,” Mahito said, as you signed your name on the sign-in sheet, “you’ve gotten really good at making up lies on the spot!”
You fought the urge to roll your eyes, and gritted your teeth instead.
Why did Mahito make even the most everyday things in your life so complicated?
—
He pouted. Honest-to-goodness pouted.
“You never open your mouth so nicely like that for me.” He rested his chin in his hand and furrowed his eyebrows. “I always gotta fight you for it." He pointed an accusatory finger at your chin. And you’re not even trying to bite her! No fair!”
You choked a little on your spit. Couldn’t he just shut up–
“Are you doing all right?” She asked, pulling the tools out of your mouth for the moment.
You closed your mouth and smiled tightly. “Mm-hmm. Sorry, I just have um, some dental anxiety, so…”
She wiped the scaler on your bib and moved the light up a little. Mahito followed the movement and began poking the bulbs.
“Do you think she’d mind if I broke this?” You almost said something, but he shrugged. “Ah, but the pieces would get into your mouth, and we’d be stuck here longer.”
The hygienist continued, not knowing that a curse which could end her life in a moment was hovering over her shoulder, pouting like a damn child.
“Oh gosh, I’m sorry. Just raise your hand if you need me to take a break, okay?”
“Thank you,” you said, and opened your mouth wide to encourage her to continue. She did, returning to examine your teeth with the little mirror, poke here and there, get a good idea of what she needed to tackle first.
Good. The faster she worked, the sooner you could get out of here. The sooner you got out of here, the less likely it was that Mahito would act up.
Act up. Hah. As if his acts of violence were a toddler throwing a tantrum in the grocery store, chubby fists hitting the hard floor as he wailed because he was tired, bored, hungry, didn’t get the toy he wanted, did get the toy he wanted but now it wasn’t fun, the sky was blue and he wanted it green…
No, no, the comparison wasn’t entirely off, was it? Sure, he wasn’t throwing a fit because the store was out of strawberry milk (but he might, you thought, if he took a liking to it) but he might kill someone waiting in the congested line at the grocery store because he was tired of you running errands and wanted you back in your apartment.
And he might kill this hygienist, to have you fleeing home, away from the blood, the carnage, the screams. And because it would be amusing to him, even if you weren’t around.
But the notion went beyond his tendency to pout, to be impulsive, to want what he wants when he wants it, didn’t it? He was always learning, always eager to learn. What he did know often felt instinctive and unfulfilled, and he was using you to stuff the gaps. Watching what you did and said.
Testing you, teasing you, seeing what he could take away from your ordinary personhood. Like someone who’d never lived among people finally making it to the big city, taking in the sights and sounds and world with eagerness.
He was just so damn new. Sometimes you felt like he should be covered in a thin, slimy caul. Only you didn’t know if he would be better or worse if he lost it.
Mahito waved one of his hands.
“You look like you’re thinking really hard. What are you thinking about?”
“Nuffing,” you said, with a mouthful of dental tools.
The hygienist pulled them out again.
“Sorry, you needed a break?”
Oops.
“Sorry,” you said. “I forgot to raise my hand. It’s okay now, I just got a little tense because my back tooth is a bit sore.”
“Oh, I’ll be more careful.” And the sharp tools went back inside your mouth.
Mahito was quiet for a while, which was both wonderful and terrifying. He was simply watching the hygienist work now. His eyes were intent on the repetitive movements of the scaler, the way she scraped your gum. You saw him look down at your hands–clenching the straps of your purse, as you always did at the dentist but especially so today–and back at your face.
He weaved around to the other side of the chair so that he could get in close to your face without risking knocking into the hygienist or the light fixture above your head.
“You’re bleeding a lot,” he said. “Is that normal? Is that why she keeps squirting water in your mouth? Why don't you just swallow it?”
He ran a finger along your cheek, and you made a soft, high sound in your throat. The hygienist paused, but when you didn’t raise your hand or try to talk, she kept going. A small mercy.
“How much does it hurt? A lot? A little? Less or more than the time I broke your finger?” His pinky traced the beginning of a tear in the corner of your eye. You didn’t know if it was from the sharp pain in your gums or from the terror coursing through your veins. At his words, sure, but the very nature of this awful scenario was simply too much for you.
In a moment, the woman who was simply doing her job to clean your teeth might be dead. The receptionist who probably gossiped with you to a coworker the second you were out of earshot might be dead. The people in the waiting room, the old man with an audiobook on tape and the little girl playing with the germ-ridden toys tucked in the corner–dead, dead, dead. Piles of pus and blood and bloated flesh.
You could be that, too. If he decided he wanted it.
Mahito let his pinky slide delicately from your eye to your mouth. He touched the edge of your stretched lip, and when he brought it up to the light, you could see a smear of gum-blood.
A small tear finally made its way out of your eye. From the pain, that’s what the hygienist would tell herself. Maybe she would stop again, or maybe she’d be glad you were toughing it out, so she could move on to her next appointment quicker.
Mahito saw the tear and frowned.
“Hey. Are you upset because I brought up the finger? You can’t be mad at me about that anymore, remember? It wasn’t on purpose–well, I didn’t mean to break it, anyway. And I fixed it, so...” He gazed down at your hands, clenched so hard around the strap of your purse that you had to reflexively relax them to keep them from aching.
He looked so serious, so suddenly. It made your stomach do awful flips.
“You’re the first person I’ve fixed, did you know that?”
You didn’t.
“Normally I just play with humans. Take them apart. Turn them into something new. Experiment, experiment, experiment.” He sighed, almost dreamily. “It’s fun. Really! I’ve learned a lot. But with you–”
He didn’t finish whatever thought he had. Instead, he sat down on the unused stool next to the dental chair, then, and took hold of your hands. It was nothing for him to pry your fingers away from your purse.
You hoped the hygienist wouldn’t look down–how strange would it look for your hands to be hovering in midair, like they were being held by nothing at all?
If only he was nothing.
He squeezed your fingers.
“You don’t need to hold a bag, see?”
You raised your eyebrows.. You couldn’t ask the questions tumbling in your mind, and you’re not sure that you wanted to know the answers, anyway.
Then the hygienist poked a particularly sensitive area behind your front teeth, and you flinched in the chair. You squeezed his hands tight. Reflexively, you told yourself. Reflexively.
Mahito glanced down at your intertwined hands. He looked serious again. Somber. Even soft, maybe? Or was that your imagination, pathetic, frightened as it was? You half-expected him to pat your hands and tell you that he was here, not to worry. Like your mom did when you were a kid and needed a root canal.
Then his gaze lifted suddenly and he grinned side enough to show you his gum line. He stuck his tongue out and poked one of his teeth, then spoke–you realized, with a bubble of sickness in your chest, that he’d given himself a second tongue.
“I was thinking… if she has to pull out one of your teeth, do you get to keep it? Can I have it?”
You groaned out a whimper, but the hygienist continued working.
Mahito didn’t let go of your hands.

heyy i was hoping you could hear me out on this female reader x bakugo fic request. this might sound so weird but pls stay w me. when u give a guy head it can bruise the back of ur throat. (obviously isn’t perm) and dentists can actually tell and see the bruising. so i’ve jus been thinking about going to a dental appointment with Bakugo the next day after giving him that head and the dentist being able to tell and lowkey teasing about it. how would bakugo react lol. thanks!!!!

♬ ₊˚. dental appts w bakugo katsuki !! .🎧⋆✧ sfw / fluff / light mentions of nsfw / mentions of mouth poking
female reader
hi anon !! this is such a funny request i HAD to do this !!! i literally giggled when i read it :3 that’s so silly i bet he’d be so flustered, enjoy <3
the cuties song -> www.spotify.com (LMFAOO)
your boyfriend, katsuki, was driving you to your dental appointment today. you two were doing the usual, listening to music and talking occasionally as you gaze out the window. you usually don’t like going to the dentist, but you knew you had to get a few things checked eventually.
once katsuki pulled into the parking lot, you grabbed your purse and your phone and hopped out of his car - fixing your hair in the window once you shut the door. “let’s go!” katsuki shouts, you huff - moving another strand of hair into place and catching up to him.
“you look fine, baby.” he grumbles, pulling your hand into his - you shoot him a quick smile before walking in the doors. once you’re inside katsuki speaks to the receptionist at the counter and lends her your information as you look around, you haven’t been to the dentist in forever.
eventually you two sit down, katsuki crosses a calf over his knee and puts his arm around you - watching the kids fondly and glaring at the men that walked past and looked at you. you pull out your small compact mirror and fix your hair once more, earning a small chuckle from katsuki.
“what?” “nothin’ you’re just cute..” a pink hue frames your cheeks and you look back into the tiny mirror, suddenly the door entering the dentists office calls out your name and you both stand up - following the woman into the room where the dentist is at.
“hello ms.[last name], take a seat.” the dentist greets you kindly and you sit, katsuki sitting in the other chair in the room. the dentist looks at your records and assures everything is fine with your teeth and that they just want to do a short checkup to double check that everything is normal.
you sit back once you hand katsuki your purse and essentials, opening your mouth for the dentist to examine. as he’s poking around in your mouth he stops for a second and gives you a look, you look back at him quizzically and he just chuckles - glancing at katsuki as well.
“what? is there somethin’ wrong?” katsuki questions, sitting up in the chair. the dentist tells him there’s nothing wrong, but that there seems to be some.. bruising, in the back of your mouth. katsuki coughs at his confession and you glance between katsuki and the dentist, suddenly - you start giggling. your face has turned a light shade of pink that the dentist points out, which just turns the hue darker as the dentist continues the teasing.
katsuki stares at the dentist with wide eyes and sits back in the chair, clearly embarrassed. “it’s quite alright, it doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong. it’s just always funny to notice and tease the patients about, don’t worry - this is not an uncommon thing.” he speaks as he clicks his mouse against the mousepad, eventually he spins back around in his chair toward you and tells you that everything is fine and that you don’t have to come back until a few months pass.
you thank him and grab your things from katsuki, before you two could walk out the dentist stops you - “make sure to not get another bruise, now.” katsuki stops dead in his tracks, turning to look at the dentist “wh—- hey!” before he could continue you place a hand on his chest and push him out, “sorry, and yes sir - i won’t.”
the dentist smiles at you both fondly as you walk out, katsuki keeping a tight grip on your waist as you make it to his car. before you open the car door you place a hand on your forehead, giggling breathlessly to yourself - “oh my, that was so embarrassing.” “yeah it sure fuckin’ was, why’d he care so much anyway?” katsuki mumbles to himself as he gets in the car.
you get in as well and place a hand on his arm, “don’t worry, now that we know in advance we’ll do something else before going to the dentist.” you flutter your eyelashes at him and he just gives you a “really?” look. you laugh at his silent response and he puts the car in reverse, revving loudly before backing out and speeding off.
—
yay !! this was actually so fun to write and super easy !! thanks for the amazing and silly request !! i love requests like these :)

Tarsus IV: Appendix Of Redacted Files (StarfleetLogs)
There are a number of misconceptions about the Tarsus IV Massacre.
Misconception 1: "The children were the first to go."
This is greatly exaggerated. Of the 4,000+ colonists who died, only 40% of them were children- approximately 1600; which, while a tragedy, was not an act of genocide, but of famine. When the time came, only 162 children were chosen by Kodos to die.
This was the one constant; the one thing that was sacred. All those with parents willing to die for them were safe. And, die they did, when Kodos declared that something must be done.
That is when the rest were killed. There were more than four thousand deaths on Tarsus, of course, but not as many as four thousand disintegrations. However, when they compiled the lists of the dead, they attributed all those unknown deaths to Kodos The Executioner. The true number of victims died with him.
Misconception 2: "It was a natural disaster which came on without warning."
This assumption is perhaps the most understandable. Firstly, because the destruction of the grains was indeed the work of a strange fungus. Second, because it did, indeed appear to be an accident.
Officially, the same fungus that destroyed the crops (and, therefore, the colony) of Epsilon Sorona II also destroyed the crops of Tarsus IV. It was theorised, but never proven, that the Epsilon refugees brought the spores with them by mistake- tramped in on the bottom of boots. Whether intentional or not, the incident was treated as hostile by Kodos and his followers.
The fungus spread fast.
Misconception 3: "There are only nine survivors who can positively I.D Governor Kodos."
There are ten. Two of them currently dwell on the USS Enterprise. Seven are spread across the galaxy. Their names are [REDACTED].
The tenth is a man named Anton Karidian, a man with no history, a man with no past, and a bone structure that no amount of surgery can disguise. Sometimes he looks in the mirror and sees an actor. The rest of the time, he avoids mirrors.
[Flourish. Enter King, Queen, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and attendants.]
It is curious that he does not avoid the limelight.
KING: Welcome, dear Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
Moreover that we much did long to see you,
The need we have to use you did provoke
Our hasty sending...
There are a number of horrors surrounding the events of Tarsus IV which people are quick to minimise. These are all truths, ones which get lost in the mythologising of The Tarsus VI Massacre. For, surely, in the 23rd century, humanity has moved past such petty things as racism, eugenics and misogyny? However, no matter how often people gloss over it, the wording remains the same:
Misconception 4: "Governor Kodos decided who would die based on his own personal theories of Eugenics."
'Personal theories of Eugenics' is a quaint way to describe fascism. Perhaps Governor Kodos was not always a fascist, but he was certainly not always Governor. A military coup, on a colony that was first settled by war veterans, is not at all hard.
Misconception 5: "The body of Kodos was too charred to be identified. His face, burned. His fingertips, burned. However, dental records suggest that this was, indeed, his body, as does the DNA we could gather- blood tests were sufficient. We believe that the warehouse was set on fire by a small group of rebels, once Kodos and his security detail were trapped inside. Governor Kodos is dead, and we regret we could not bring him to justice."
- Source: Kit Ashingtower, Chief Medical Examiner.
There is one final truth; for those in Starfleet who have the clearance to learn it. Within the Federation, details of the massacre will remain confidential for another fifty years before the details are released to the public, but, occasionally, a footnote slips through. Sometimes attached to a personnel file, sometimes a medical file, and, in this case- attached to both.
Misconception 6: "Despite being a direct eyewitness to the events of Tarsus IV, James T. Kirk appears to have no lasting trauma associated with the event, and has passed his psych eval.
He has been declared fit for command."

pairing: mason x amelia
synopsis: amelia is a science girlie, mason has to suffer ♡ (aka nat remembers she's literate after 25 years of not writing)
"You having fun there, sweetheart?" Mason asks or at least tries to, but it comes out all mumbled now that his jaw is held open and a mouth mirror is pressed against his left fang. She's probably been at it for at least fourty five minutes, examining and prodding at his mouth, or it could've been longer than that. He can't exactly tell since time seemed to escape him whenever he was with Amelia.
She was the one who was always concerned with the how and the why things worked like they did. Always messing about with charts, blood samples, and other scientific shit that Mason didn't understand. He'd still listen anyway, observing the crease in her brow and the certainty her voice carried, as if she was one hundred percent sure of what she was talking about.
He always tried to make himself a nuisance, though, offering snarky remarks and trying to get her to move her attention to a different sort of research. He wanted to see what it would take to have her focus waver, to make her break out of whatever corner she was in her mind and look at him. Only him. He didn't succeed, but she never kicked him out either. The truth was that there was no place either of them would rather be.
Time spent alone together was scarce, between one supernatural disaster and the other, they took what they could. Mason reckoned they could watch paint dry together and still make it a pleasant experience, so that's why he's here. That's why he agreed to this. Not because he was whipped or some shit, like Felix suggested. He always did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, and if what he wanted was to sit here and let Ames entertain her highly intelligent mind with his dental anatomy, that was his business.
It wasn't the first time he'd shown her his fangs either. He was used to having to hide them away until needed so it felt almost freeing to have them on display like this again. "Fascinating." he heard her mutter, tapping his left fang before doing the same with his right. "It seems that this one is a smidge sharper than this one. I wonder why that is."
He fought the urge to smirk and suggest that they could find a better purpose for his mouth before thinking better of it. As she finally released his jaw, he moved it around a bit to relax, surprisingly missing her touch.
"Yeah, real fascinating." he snarked before rolling his eyes. "Are you done now?"
Despite his grumbling, they both knew that he wasn't actually complaining. He just wanted her all to himself after, he wanted her present. He watched her hum in affirmation as she dropped the tool in the sink and took off her gloves.
"You did good. Thank you for letting me do this." she said with a nod of appreciation, her eyes softer than usual. It was the look that he liked to think she had just for him. It was the look he was always chasing after. The look that soothed the slight strain in his jaw and the coldness of the metal bed he was sitting on.
"And what do I get for being so good, huh, sweetheart?" he questioned suggestively. She only raised an eyebrow before cupping his cheek and pressing a gentle kiss to it. His eyes automatically drifted shut as he let out a pleased sigh. This was a new addition to his list of favorites, so if he doesn't wipe off the lipstick stain that he now knows is there, again, that's his business.
#idk man this was stuck in my head and i had to vomit it out#please don't roast me i'm holding a pencil like a baby deer learning to walk 💀🙏#twc#the wayhaven chronicles#twc mason#twc amelia#*myfic#clown.txt

31 Days of Horror day 22: Imposter (tw for human experimentation and body modification. mild gore)
Subject: 572TR-01MC
Source: Wild caught
Status: Recovering from prelim. dental replacement. Have begun to switch from liquids to solids.
Notes: The team is monitoring the modification to the subject's mandible. We are observing for sharpness of the teeth, as well as any detrimental effects to the mandible itself. Per earlier reports we have accounted for potential bone shifting and harm to the gums.
Tests on cognitive abilities have commenced in preparation for future modifications. After noon lunch, we set up the subject to monitor vital signs, and the records of those have been attached to this report. The subject put up little fight, we are pleased to report. Dr. Z led the subject to a testing room with a two-way mirror for the research team and a standard mirror for the subject that takes up a fourth of the wall. Dr. Z left the subject in the room and joined us in the observation room. The subject milled about in the room in what seemed to be a bit of a daze (see: medication doses subject is taking). The ECG told us the subject had a raised heart rate, and it seemed to be confused as to where it was.
A full minute passed before the subject took notice of the mirror. It stared at its reflection for approx. 30 seconds, with spikes to the heart rate consistent with anger and fear. Visually we could see it begin to hyperventilate. It was then the subject tensed and attacked its reflection with such force that the mirror eventually shattered. As to why we did not step in sooner, I {Dr. J} must admit we were stunned into immobility. When we got our senses there was blood and glass everywhere, which accounts for the call to a biohazard team to scrub the room once we were finished. Dr. Z required the other researchers to help hold the subject down so he could administer a fast acting sedative, though the subject thrashed and howled demands at us for approx. 4 more minutes before it took effect.
The follow up examination confirmed for us that it had suffered lacerations to its shoulder, arms, and knuckles. The index and ring finger were broken on its left hand, and wrist on its right (see attached medical record). We will be implementing better safety measures in future to avoid such an incident, and we would like to offer our sincere apologies to the medical staff brought in to treat the subject. We understand that those unfamiliar with our work will be uncomfortable with the work we do and our current choice of subject, and we will strive to minimize their need to interact with our subject.

content warnings: Dentist!Harper, removal of teeth via surgery (off-screen), blood, oral/mouth-fucking, noncon, PC/reader is not happy, (writing is a bit messy as heads up- continues under the cut!)
If Harper were a dentist, you'd be fucked. You could say goodbye to your teeth, because he had claimed them for himself the moment he saw those pretties shine in your mouth. It's like he fell in love.
(Oh... the things he could do with them. The things he could do with you.)
But, as much as he wants both of you, he's patient. Bides his time.
It starts with a normal checkup and cleaning, and maybe your teeth are in good shape, maybe not. Either way, when Harper comes in to examine your teeth and x-rays, he frowns and tells you that you've got some bad cavities, and some other stuff you don't understand. (It's real bad, though, yeah. Might have to pull a couple out, might have to get you dentures, sorry. You'd look real cute with dentures, though!)
(And you're no dentist, but all of that can't possibly be true.)
Harper is smiling the rest of the time time he gives his assessment. It's not unusual for him though, this guy smiles way too much. (And hey, he's a dentist, so maybe he's just showing off what his work can do..?) But this time, it rubs you the wrong way. So you go with your gut and tell him that you'll need time to think about the treatment options, and his smile falters and anger flashes in his eyes for only a moment. But he goes back to his usual smile soon after, though, calmly telling you to take your time, and he'll be right here, waiting to help. His smile doesn't reach his eyes anymore.
Fast forward a few days, things seem normal. You aren't having any dental-related pain/issues, so- and again, you're no dentist- you're almost certain by now that Harper was full of shit. This whole experience still doesn't sit right with you, so you try and call the office to change your dentist, to find out if you even can, but the people on the phone keep redirecting you and you give up, frustrated. But it's fine, you think. You've been doing good so far, you won't need any help from that guy. It's fine.
Except, it's not fine, though. Because you start having excruciating tooth pain, and you don't know where it came from. You didn't bite anything weird, your tooth looks fine in the mirror. You try to solve it yourself, and when that fails, you try elsewhere. But your search engine isn't giving any useful answers and your friends don't know either. It makes it hard to focus, to eat, to talk, so you have no choice but to come in.
You try to come when Harper isn't working, which was hard to figure out, because it feels like the man lives at the fucking place. You've never seen him anywhere else. But, miraculously, you find someone else on call to check you out, and they give you some diagnosis with too many fancy schmancy words, but it's bad and they tell you they're going to have to operate. You're not happy, but the pain is too much for you to resist treatment. So you let them lead to to the operating room and they prep you up. And you feel at ease, because the pain will be gone soon and that creep isn't here. (A part of you feels bad, because maybe you're judging him too early. But he gives you Bad Vibes, and you don't want anything to do with him, honestly.)
They administer anaesthesia, and you faintly feel dread as the last thing you see is Harper coming into the room from the corner of your eye.
(And by then, it's too late. He's got you right where he wants you.)
. . . . . . . .
Your whole mouth feels numb when you wake up, and your tongue feels heavy and it tastes of cotton. The lights are dim, and as soon as it sets in that this isn't a normal recovery room, you start to freak out. You try to move, but you're strapped to the bed, so you can only wait, anxious.
You don't have to wait long, however. Because the door creaks open and footsteps tap tap tap until they're in front of you, and you're met with Harper's smiling face.
Just great. Just Fucking Great.
He crouches down off to the side in front of you, reaching a hand to cup your cheek. (There's a strange rattle when he moves, but you're more focused on other things to think much of it.) If your mouth wasn't full of gauze, you'd bite him in a second. You try to yell, to ask what the fuck is going on, but your speech is muffled and he ignores it in favor for his own.
He explains where you are and why you're here, but he's vague and cryptic and it only agitates you more. You don't understand. He tells you that he's made you better, that you won't suffer the way you did anymore, and by now you've stopped struggling against your restraints to listen. You have no idea what the fuck he's talking about. You don't understand. At least, until he holds up a mirror and removes your gauze.
He removed your fucking teeth.
What the fuck?
You try to scream (in anger or from fear, you're not sure), but your throat is so so dry and the anaesthesia is already wearing off and you go into a half coughing half crying fit. It hurts. So bad. (What the fuck. What the fuck!)
Harper strokes your cheek with his thumb in an attempt to console you, and if he were anyone else, you'd lean into his embrace. But you can't. You Can't. He hushes you, and looks concerned, like he wasn't expecting you to take the news so badly. His frown turns into a smile soon after, though.
A wide one.
He asks you if you want to see something, and you don't nod, but you don't shake your head, either. You're just sniffling and blubbering, a complete mess. You hear that damn rattle again as he rummages through his pocket, and pulls out a jar full of...
Teeth?
Is that yours?
Harper says something, but you don't register it. All you can focus on is that jar, but even then you don't know what to think. His voice is giddy when he talks, and he places the jar by your feet, just out of reach.
He leaves you to process for a minute, occupying himself with hell knows what. But you have barely enough time to gather your bearings before his attention is back on you. The sounds of a clinking belt, a zipper being undone, and a shuffle of fabric occur before you find yourself face to face with his twitching cock. You're not sure what your expression is, maybe that of horror or anger, but Harper enjoys it way too much. He laughs, telling you that he's always wanted to try no teeth, and to not worry, he'll help your throat get wet in no time.
You have barely any time to react before his hand grips the back of your head and slams you onto his cock, and you gag as it invades your mouth. All you can taste is copper, and a mix of blood and precum dribbles from your mouth.
Everything hurts, it's excruciating. You struggle to breathe.
You weakly try to bite down, to do anything, but it only gives the undesired affect, judging by his praise. He continues talking as he assaults your mouth, cock scraping against your stitches as you sob out, unable to do anything. Harper grunts out half finished sentences, cutting himself off with a moan or gasp at the end of each thrust. You can barely make anything said out, but it's not like it matters much to you. (He tells you how much better you look now, how much he prefers the new you. But don't get him wrong, he loves your teeth too, they just.. look better separated.)
He doesn't last long, and you'd call him pathetic if you could talk. But you don't want to egg him on, in fear he'd go for another around. Harper cums with a shudder, semen splattering the back of your throat and you gag and cough and gasp and sputter as he removes his cock from your sore mouth, a trail of pinkened fluid following. You feel empty as he cleans you up, and you don't resist when he opens your mouth with his fingers to inspect the damage. Harper half speaks half mumbles something about preventing infection (and part of you wishes you would get an infection. If it'll get you out of there.)
Is this going to be your life now? You wonder what you've done to deserve this, if it was your fault.
(Your first mistake was smiling.)

A/N: For the Seasoned Love zine! Kojiro coaxing Kaoru into a relationship is like an owner calling for their cat—will it happen? Who knows, not even the cat.
…
…
…
…
The bed was empty. Kaoru cracked an eye open as his hand hit the empty spot beside him, the bedsheet long cooled and any impression of Kojiro’s body faded at best. An alarm blared on his side lamp and Kaoru reluctantly opened his other eye and sat up. “I’m awake, Carla.”
The alarm cut off.
Kaoru glanced at the spot next to him as he ran a hand through his hair. “What time did he wake up?”
“Six-thirty,” Carla stated, her soothing monotone voice filling the empty room.
And it was empty because Kojiro, for all of his numerous, numerous flaws, always woke up earlier than Kaoru. It irritated him more than he cared to admit. It was far easier to think of Kojiro as a slob—even now, his clothes were scattered haphazardly across the floor, long forgotten after last night’s activities.
Yet in this one aspect he had Kaoru beat. Grinding his teeth, he slipped out of the bed, carefully picking his way past Kojiro’s crumpled jeans and unzipped sweatshirt as he made his way to the bathroom. “What’s my schedule for today, Carla?”
There was no need to ask. His day-to-day remained more or less the same, and to Kojiro’s credit, he wasn’t as impulsive as he pretended to be. Stability was the only thing Kaoru craved and he found it in his schedules, his plans, his organization of even the minute details.
Like his toothbrush holder, which now unfortunately housed a tacky neon green brush. A manual brush, something best left behind with childhood toys and dreams. Even worse, Kojiro had looked ridiculously proud when he’d slotted it in two months ago, as though he had won an award instead of just ensuring they both got proper dental health.
Kaoru grimaced as he reached past it to grab his own electric brush. “Why does that oaf insist on using such a relic?”
“He claims that his technique makes up for it,” Carla replied unexpectedly. “Your first appointment is at nine.”
Kaoru frowned as he glanced at the speaker in the bathroom. And what was that response, Carla?
His worst fears were coming true: Kojiro was infecting Carla.
A small red mark caught his eye and Kaoru turned slightly as he examined his neck in the mirror. A small red mark that clearly was a hickey. He clenched his jaw. A love bite. Again. He’d have to wear a high collar today.
“Why does that moron always do this?” he grumbled. There were few rules in their strange arrangement—this was a casual thing, they weren’t dating, and no one could ever find out about this. That last one was important. Kaoru could barely handle Adam’s insufferable smirk whenever he saw them together; add in Reki’s and Langa’s innocent questions and he’d die.
Why was Kojiro’s cologne in the cabinet? Because it was easier that way.
Why was a quarter of the closet filled with loose-fitting shirts? Because Kaoru refused to let Kojiro leave in the same clothes. Who knew who would pick up on that?
Kaoru’s brow furrowed as he studied his closet. Actually, Kojiro’s handful of shirts was starting to dominate the space, taking up almost half of the rack. “He brought more clothes.”
“Two weeks ago,” Carla chimed in helpfully.
Something must be wrong with him if hadn’t noticed in two weeks. Kaoru gingerly flipped through the outfits. “How far is the nearest donation bin?”
A few seconds later and Carla answered, “A ten-minute drive or a fifteen-minute skateboard ride.”
As tempting as that was, Kaoru wouldn’t be able to carry any of this while skateboarding. The warm aroma of freshly toasted bread wafted in and he whirled around, marching to the kitchen. At least the culprit hadn’t gone too far.
A culprit who looked as innocent as can be as he leaned against the kitchen counter, a garish green mug in one hand, his phone in the other. His thumb slid up the screen as he looked up. Spotting Kaoru, Kojiro smiled softly. “Morning, babe.”
The pet name should have rankled him more but Kaoru had gotten used to it. Tugging on his collar as he stepped forward, he growled, “I told you, below the neck.”
“That’s not what you said last night,” Kojiro teased, giving him a wolfish smile.
He coloured slightly. “That’s not the point.”
“Is it?” Kojiro shrugged as he took a sip of coffee. “It’s not my fault you contradict yourself.”
Kaoru gritted his teeth, forcing back his blush. “Well, I’m not contradicting myself now. I’m running out of collared shirts.”
“Alright, I’ll keep that in mind,” Kojiro replied blithely, sounding every bit as insincere as he was. He gestured at the plate next to him. “I made you breakfast.”
“I could smell that.” Kaoru glanced at the plate as he grabbed his own coffee mug. More than food, he needed the caffeine, especially if he had to deal with Kojiro now. As usual, there were sausages and eggs on the plate, the former only in the apartment because Kojiro had restocked Kaoru’s fridge after he started spending the mornings here.
The man had claimed it was appalling to find a fridge in such an empty state. As expected of a cook, he cared more about the fridge than any other room.
“You know there’s thing called Japanese breakfast?” Kaoru asked lightly. He inhaled his coffee with a sigh. Even the merest whiff was enough to kickstart his brain. “We don’t need to have toast everyday.”
“I’m an Italian chef.” Kojiro smiled crookedly. He leaned past Kaoru, his muscular arm brushing his chest as Kojiro plucked the lightly browned bread out of the toaster. “I’m making you an Italian breakfast.”
“I’m pretty sure this doesn’t count as an Italian breakfast,” Kaoru scoffed, gesturing at the sausage. “Those are German, I saw the packaging when you bought them.”
“Close enough,” he chuckled. Setting down his mug with a hard thud, he grabbed a sausage and ripped a bite off. “Still tastes good, no?”
“Definitely a no.” Kaoru frowned as he glanced at the mug. “And don’t put that down so hard, you’ll chip it.”
Kojiro scowled. “Hey, you said I could do what I want with my mug.”
“That doesn’t mean you should—” Kaoru froze.
Kojiro’s mug. Toothbrush. Clothing. Perfume. The food in the fridge, the space in his closet, the piles littered around the floor. Now that he was thinking about it, there was a lot of Kojiro’s things in the apartment. Especially considering they weren’t even dating.
Quietly, he stated, “You’re here a lot these days.”
“Yeaaah?” Sensing something off, Kojiro replied slowly, stretching out the word as he tried to figure out if he was in trouble or not. He eyed Kaoru wearily, like he was facing an angry bull.
“You have a lot of your…shit here,” Kaoru clarified diplomatically. There were a dozen worse abuses he could think of to describe the garish items in his house, each looking more and more out of place in comparison to Kaoru’s sleek minimalist and traditionalist style.
Kojiro reeled back, mock offended. He clutched his chest. “It’s not shit.”
“They are shit. You know this is my apartment, right?” Kaoru set down his mug, watching him carefully. A strange, unknown feeling unfurled within him. He hated unknowns.
Taking the matter as lightly as ever, Kojiro burst into laughter. “Wait, seriously, that’s what this is about?”
Kaoru clenched his jaw. “Answer the question.”
“Fine, fine. I got it.” Kojiro laughed again and wrapped an arm around Kaoru, pulling him close. He nuzzled his neck affectionately. Kaoru could feel his smile on his skin as he placated, “This is your apartment.”
Somehow, that didn’t make him feel as good as it should have. Actually, if anything, it bothered him more. That strange, unknown feeling grew and Kaoru couldn’t describe it as anger or disappointment or some other myriad emotion. The only thing he did know was that he didn’t like it.
The only thing he did know was that it was Kojiro’s fault he felt like this.
“As long as you understand,” he mumbled.
“Just one thing.” Kojiro lifted his head and leaned close until their noses brushed. His breath warmed Kaoru’s cheeks, his eyes glowing a dark amber.
“What?” Kaoru breathed, spellbound.
His voice was husky as he asked, “You know, isn’t this starting to feel like our apartment?”
“Our?” Kaoru’s jaw dropped. A single word broke him from his stupor.
Kojiro shrugged. “Well, I mean, we’re dating—”
“We’re not.” Kaoru retorted, pulling away.
“—and I’ve been staying over for months now.” Kojiro tightened his grip. He peppered Kaoru’s cheeks, nose, eyes with kisses in a futile attempt to distract him. “So, I think this is a good time as any, right?”
Kaoru bristled. “’Good time’—”
A tender kiss cut him off, Kojiro finally landing on his lips. Kaoru sighed despite himself, his fingers curling into Kojiro’s shirt, his hands half-heatedly pulling him closer. Kojiro tasted bitter, like coffee, like any spats they had. It was such a contradictory taste considering how soft the man could be.
All too quickly, it ended. Kojiro gently brushed away a lock of hair, his hand cradling Kaoru’s cheek as he pulled back. “Just something to think of.”
Kaoru wasn’t quite sure he could think of anything right now.
“Anyways, running late now!” Mission accomplished, Kojiro withdrew entirely, untangling their limbs with ease. He waved cheerfully as he headed to the door, acting like nothing had happened. “See you later!”
The door slammed shut before Kaoru regained his senses.
Our apartment.
Our.
Immediately, he dashed to the door and yanked it open. “You’d better pay half the rent then!”
From further down the hall, near the elevators, he heard a laugh. “Deal!”
There was a small ding and Kaoru closed his door just as the elevator left. Now that the adrenaline left him, he wasn’t sure if he’d made a terrible mistake or a good deal.
Our apartment.
They weren’t even dating.
Our.
God help him, that small word made him far too happy.

I had this silly scenario where Seleni was a dentist
Now imma show it to you
WARNING: Cringe, swearing, and platonic sexual tension (jokingly)
“You know what? Since you’ve been a BITCH and didn’t tell your pookie wookie alpha daddy that you left the decree, you’re name is going to be Testicle.”
Seleni starts to write on her paper.
“Really? All because I didn’t tell you that I left?
Ikki smiled annoyingly.
“Yes. Now open wide, pookie bear.”
Ikki opens his mouth. Seleni pulls out a dental mirror and examines the white bitch’s teeth.
“I can’t believe it, you don’t have a single cavit-“
Seleni glares at Ikki as she found the world’s smallest cavity in the back of one of his back teeth. She hits him with the dental mirror
“You fucking bitch. For a second, I thought you had cavities.”
Selene slaps Ikki’s cheek.
“Ow! Harder mommy~”
“Stfu bitch, you know I’m married to two emos D:<“
“IM KIDDING POOKIE :(“
Seleni rolls her eyes and writes on her paper.
“You dumb white body have 1 cavity. Idgaf so imma just fill up everything because why not?”
Seleni pulls out a drill.
“I’m gonna use my rose toy to take out that nasty ass cavity.”
“A what?”
Seleni turn on the drill and aggressively drill every single centimeter of Ikki’s mouth. Ikki doesn’t move an inch. She throws away the drill.
“Now I’m gonna clean your teeth. But first, we need to freshen up your mouth cause it smells like shit.”
Seleni pulls out her perfume and sprays it on Ikki’s mouth.
“Mmm! Cherry.”
Seleni pulls out two teeth polish flavors. One pink, one brown.
“Do you want bubblegum or shit flavor? You know what? You’re taking shit.”
Seleni applies some teeth polish into the drill and rubs it all over Ikki’s mouth.
“Mmm, shit flavor…. How… unique….”
Seleni writes on her paper again.
“Okay, I’m gonna fill this out and really hope my boss doesn’t notice that I did not tell him….”
Seleni picks up Ikki and throws him off the building.
“Thank you, testicle :3”
“Thank you, pookie wookie daddy alpha dentist :3”

How to Tell If You Have an Overbite
An overbite can sometimes be easy to spot—but in many cases, people live with it for years without realizing something’s off. If you’ve ever looked at your smile and wondered why your top teeth seem to stick out a little more than they should, you might be dealing with a common bite issue.
While a small overbite is perfectly normal, a more severe one can affect how your teeth function, how you chew, and even how you speak. Sometimes referred to as buck teeth, a noticeable overbite may also impact confidence and facial aesthetics if left untreated.
Let’s look at how to tell if you have an overbite—and what steps you can take next.
1. Appearance: What to Look for in the Mirror
The most obvious sign of an overbite is visual. Stand in front of a mirror, smile naturally, and take a look at how your top teeth align with the bottom ones.
Ask yourself:
Do my upper front teeth cover more than one-third of my lower front teeth?
Do my top teeth tilt forward or seem to extend outward?
Does my bite look uneven when I smile?
A noticeable vertical overlap of the top teeth is a hallmark sign. If your teeth seem to "jut out" and create a protruding teeth look, that’s often associated with a moderate to severe overbite.
2. Functional Issues: It’s Not Just About Looks
An overbite isn’t just a visual concern—it can also affect how your mouth functions. Some of the most common symptoms people experience include:
Chewing Difficulty: Food may be harder to bite into or chew properly due to misalignment.
Speech Problems: An overbite can interfere with tongue placement, leading to lisping or trouble pronouncing certain words.
Frequent Cheek Biting: If your teeth don’t close properly, you might accidentally bite the inside of your cheeks often.
These daily issues may seem small at first but can become more frustrating over time. If you're noticing any of these signs, it’s worth looking into further.
3. Try a Natural Bite Test
A quick self-check can offer helpful clues. Try this simple test:
Close your mouth normally—don’t clench or force your teeth together.
Observe how your upper and lower teeth sit when your jaw is at rest.
If your upper front teeth cover a significant portion of your lower teeth or appear to extend far in front, that’s a clear indicator of an overbite. This check won’t give you a diagnosis, but it’s a useful way to determine whether you should seek a professional opinion.
4. Consult Your Dentist or Orthodontist
While self-checks are helpful, the best way to confirm an overbite is through a professional dental evaluation. Your dentist or orthodontist can assess your bite using digital imaging, x-rays, or physical examination. They can also determine the severity and whether it requires correction.
The earlier you get a diagnosis, the easier it is to manage. Mild cases may need only simple aligners or habit correction, while more significant ones might call for braces or other orthodontic solutions.
Why It Matters
Leaving an overbite untreated can lead to long-term dental problems like:
Uneven tooth wear
Jaw pain or TMJ issues
Increased risk of cavities or gum problems
Speech difficulties
Early detection helps prevent these complications and sets the stage for a healthier, more confident smile.
Final Thoughts
If you’re noticing signs like chewing discomfort, speech issues, or that your top teeth seem to sit far forward, it might be time to evaluate your bite. A quick visual check can give you a clue—but nothing beats a professional dental opinion.
At Parkmore Family Dental, we specialize in identifying and treating bite concerns in patients of all ages. Not sure where to start? Contact us here to book your consultation and get expert guidance on improving your smile and dental health.

Fox River - By the Skin and Teeth Part 2
Jessica makes her way inside her apartment.
She sneaks a peek inside the living room and sees LJ sleeping on the couch.
She smiles lightly at the sight and covers him up with a blanket.
She rushes to the bathroom when she feels her stomach churning.
She empties out her stomach again.
She finishes and steps to the sink to rinse her mouth out.
She catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror.
She looks horrible.
She changes her clothes and makes her way to her room.
She stops in her tracks when she sees LJ lying in her bed, already back asleep.
She smiles at the scene before crawling under the covers and lying down.
Before she falls asleep, she feels LJ cuddle up to her.

She wakes up hours later to the smell of breakfast.
She crawls out of bed and makes her way to the kitchen where LJ is making pancakes.
He turns when he hears her coming toward him.
"I didn't know how long you wanted to sleep. You came in pretty early in the morning." he says to her, pushing a plate of blueberry pancakes in her direction.
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that, it's been a really long night." she says to him, checking her phone for messages.
"Veronica came by earlier she said that they're going to be doing the examination later this evening." he informs her.
"Great. That gives me time to go into the station before I head over there."
She says, finishing off her pancakes before standing and putting her plate in the sink.
"Thank you for breakfast." she kisses LJ's forehead before heading to her bedroom to get dressed.

Jessica walks into the police station and walks over to her desk.
She doesn't see Jason anywhere so she sits and checks her email.
There is one from a blocked address.
There are attachments.
She clicks on them, and there are the lab reports from the body that is supposed to be Terrance Steadman.
She prints them out before heading downstairs to the tech office.
She doesn't bother knocking and just opens the door.
She spots a female tech worker playing on a laptop.
The tech turns when she hears the door open.
"Hey, Jessica, right?" the techie greets as Jessica walks farther into the room.
"Yes, that's me. I need a favor." she says, pulling out the paper that had that bank account number and email address on it.
"I need you to work your magic and find out all you can about this bank account." she says, handing the piece of paper to the tech.
She looks it over with raised eyebrows.
"I can already tell you now that it's not going to be easy. Just by looking at these numbers, whoever created it designed the numbers to be hard to trace." she warns Jessica.
"But you can do it right?" she asked her.
"Oh yeah, definitely." she quickly answers.
"Great. I need this to be as quiet as possible, no one else can know about this." Jessica warns the tech.
"I got it. I will call you when I find out something." Jessica nods, heading to the door.
"Thank you." she says, walking out the door.
She starts walking down the hallway when she bumps into Jason.
"Hey." she greets hesitantly.
He glances down at her.
"Hey." he responds simply.
"Look, I know that I'm the last person that you want to see, and if you want to put in for a new partner, I completely understand. But we still have to be professional. Can we do that?" she asks him.
He looks down at her indifferently before nodding.
"Yeah, whatever you want." he retorts before walking away from her, leaving her there to stare after him.

Jessica finally makes it to the city morgue, where they have to meet up with the examiner so he can tell them his findings.
"Since the decomposition is this extensive, the only thing that we could use for identification was dental records. We made an indent of the deceased's teeth, and we compared them to the dental records of Terrance Steadman." The examiner explains to them.
"And what did you find out?" Jessica asks, wanting to know.
"They were a perfect match." he informs them.
Jessica's heart sinks as she looks confused about the teeth being Steadman's.
"Thank you doctor." the prosecuting lawyer says smugly.
Jessica shakes her head.
"No, there is no way that that can be Terrance Steadman." Jessica argues.
"You can get a forensic examiner of your own choosing to examine the body, and they would tell you the same thing." he warns them.
Jessica sighs before turning and walking out of the room.
She starts walking down the hall but stops when she sees Caroline Reynolds walking toward her.
She stops when she sees Jessica standing there.
"I hope you are proud of all of this." she glares at her.
"You have gotten your pound of flesh. Are you done, or would you like to hurt my family some more?" she insults her.
Jessica glares and walks close enough so she can whisper to her.
"I know the truth. I may not be able to prove it now, but you will slip up. And when you do, I will be right there bringing you down." she threatens before getting pulled away by Nick and Veronica.
***********
Jessica walks into the private visitor's room to meet Lincoln.
She has papers that Veronica wants her to go over with him.
She sits down across from him and takes his hand in hers.
"How are you doing?" he asks her, seeing the bags under her eyes.
"I am very tired. I haven't gotten much sleep, but that's nothing unusual." she assures him.
"Have you heard anything yet?" he asks as she pulls out some papers.
"No, we haven't heard anything yet. Testing usually takes a few days." she lies, not wanting him to get upset until she can find more answers.
He looks deep in thought before looking at her.
"What do you remember of my dad?" he asks her out of the blue.
"I don't know much. I only met him once. It was when I was picking Veronica up from a study date with Michael. I know that your mom said some horrible stuff about him to my mom a lot." she tells him.
He looks at her.
"I think I saw him." he confides to her.
She looks unsure. "Lincoln..."
She doesn't want to put him down.
"How would you even know it was him. You haven't seen his face in 30 years." she says, trying to be realistic.
"There is a name that was used, William Purell. The name of this guy, he used to play for Chicago baseball. Dad was really into him, but I had forgotten all about him til now." Jessica squeezes his hand.
"OK. I can probably pull up surveillance tapes from the viewing room. What was he wearing so I know what to look for?" she asks him.
"He was wearing a flannel jacket and a blue baseball cap." he informs her.
She instantly narrows her eyes in surprise.
"Are you sure he was wearing that?" she asks, making sure.
He catches the tone in her voice.
"Yeah. I'm absolutely sure why?" he asks her, wondering what she knows.
"When I was leaving here yesterday, I bumped into a man matching the description you gave me. I felt like he looked familiar." she informs him.
He looks at her with surprise.
They both wonder if that was really Lincoln's dad.
**********
Trish and Paul are going over the video of the courthouse in front of Judge Kessler's office.
"That guy that came in slid the envelope under the judge's door." Trish notes to Paul, who is watching over her shoulder.
"This man knows what he's doing. He moves slowly to avoid suspicion."
She pauses the video.
"See how he hides his face from the camera, he knew where the cameras were at." she says to Paul before resuming the video.
Paul watches closely as the video continues.
"Whoa, pause that." he demands as he finds something.
"Look right there." he pointed at the reflection from the glass window in front of him.
"Can you blow up that image?" he asked her.
She pushes a few buttons on the keypad before the image enlarges.
She zooms in on the reflection.
She looks closer before her eyes widen.
"Son of a bitch!" she exclaims.
"What?" Paul asked confused.
"I know that guy." she informed him.
******
Jessica walks hesitantly inside the bar.
She hasn't had a drink in over three years.
But tonight she is going to break that streak.
She sits down at the bar, and the bartender walks over to her.
"What can I get for you doll?" he asks her.
She looks hesitant before answering.
"I'll take a shot of Jack and a Bud Light." she orders.
She takes a deep breath.
Her emotions are getting the better of her.
The bartender places her drinks down and she slams her shot back.
"Another."
She waves and points to her shot glass, taking a swig of her beer.
She is in for a long night.

Best Dental Tools for Effective Oral Care
Healthy smiles don't only require brushing teeth; it also involves using the best dental tools. From regular everyday tools such as toothbrushes to professional equipment used in the dental professional, the best dental tools ensure proper oral hygiene and effective treatments. Here's a look at some of the best dental tools that can keep your teeth and gums healthy.
1. Electric Toothbrush
An electric toothbrush is probably one of the best dental tools you can use for effective removal of plaque. Unlike manual models, electric ones give a much more consistent motion in brushing off plaque and bacteria. Some good electric toothbrushes include the Philips Sonicare and Oral-B, which include features such as timers, pressure sensors, and multiple brushing modes to ensure that you brush for the recommended time and avoid pressing too hard against your gums.
2. Dental Floss
This flossing will reach the parts where a toothbrush cannot and removes food particles between the teeth, which eventually contribute to the building of plaque on the gums and leads to disease and cavities. Good-quality dental flosses are produced, including Oral-B Glide and Cocofloss, and provide easy glide, strength, comfort, and are effective at cleaning out debris from between teeth. Daily flossing is required to ensure oral hygiene.
3. Mouthwash
Mouthwash is a good supplement to your brushing and flossing. It kills bacteria, freshens breath, and offers additional protection against cavities and gum disease. The best mouthwashes contain fluoride for the prevention of cavities and antiseptic properties to reduce plaque and gingivitis. Popular mouthwashes include Listerine and TheraBreath, which effectively kill bacteria and promote fresh breath, while fluoride mouthwashes like ACT offer added enamel protection.
4. Tongue Scraper
In oral hygiene practices, the tongue is usually the forgotten part that houses bacteria that causes bad breath. A scraper for the tongue is one of the best tools in dentistry that removes a buildup of bacteria, food parts, and dead cells on the surface of the tongue. It can be produced by DenTek and Orabrush, thus making it trusted to help maintain a cleaner mouth and fresher breath.
5. Interdental Brushes
It is a small, cone-shaped brush used to clean between teeth by removing plaque and other food particles. It is especially used among individuals with orthodontic appliances, implants, or larger interproximal spaces. TePe and GUM are very popular, widely-used brands that provide a range of sizes and designs of interdental brushes to meet the particular needs and requirements of the users, making them one of the best tools for an effective cleaning between the teeth.
6. Water Flosser
Water flossers, also known as oral irrigators, use a pulsating stream of water to clean between teeth and along the gumline. This tool is an excellent alternative for people who find traditional flossing difficult or uncomfortable. Waterpik is a leading brand in the water flosser market, offering effective models that can clean deep between teeth, remove plaque, and improve gum health.
7. Dental Mirrors
A dental mirror is a very small, hand-held tool that assists you in viewing hard-to-reach areas inside the mouth, like the surfaces at the back of your teeth and up to the gumline. These mirrors are best used for in-home examination because they help you check on the status of your teeth and your gums for signs of plaque or a cavity. Dental mirrors are also commonly used in the hands of professionals during cleaning and check-up procedures, but they can prove to be helpful for anyone to keep an eye on their oral health.

Which Type of Tooth Filling is Best?
By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a tooth filling also helps prevent further decay. Materials used for tooth fillings include gold, porcelain, a composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and an amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and sometimes zinc).
Which Type of Tooth Filling is Best?
No one type of tooth filling is best for everyone. What’s right for you will be determined by the extent of the repair, whether you have allergies to certain materials, where in your mouth the filling is needed, and the cost. Considerations for different materials include:
Gold fillings are made to order in a laboratory and then cemented into place. Gold inlays are well tolerated by gum tissues, and may last more than 20 years. For these reasons, many authorities consider gold the best filling material. However, it is often the most expensive choice and requires multiple visits. Amalgam (silver) fillings are resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive. However, due to their dark color, they are more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations and are not usually used in very visible areas, such as front teeth.

Composite (plastic) resins are matched to be the same color as your teeth and therefore used where a natural appearance is desired. The ingredients are mixed and placed directly into the cavity, where they harden. Composites may not be the ideal material for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They can also become stained from coffee, tea, or tobacco, and do not last as long as other types of fillings generally from three to 10 years. Porcelain fillings are called inlays or onlays and are produced to order in a lab and then bonded to the tooth. They can be matched to the color of the tooth and resist staining. A porcelain restoration generally covers most of the tooth. Their cost is similar to gold. If decay or a fracture has damaged a large portion of the tooth, a crown, or cap, may be recommended. Decay that has reached the nerve may be treated in two ways: through root canal therapy (in which nerve damaged nerve is removed) or through a procedure called pulp capping (which attempts to keep the nerve alive).
What Happens When You Get a Tooth Filling? If your dentist decides to fill a cavity, he or she will first remove the decay and clean the affected area. The cleaned-out cavity will then be filled with any of the variety of materials described above.
How Do I Know if I Need a Tooth Filling? Only your dentist can detect whether you have a cavity that needs to be filled. During a checkup, your dentist will use a small mirror to examine the surfaces of each tooth.
Anything that looks abnormal will then be closely checked with special instruments. Your dentist may also X-ray your entire mouth or a section of it. The type of treatment your dentist chooses will depend on the extent of damage caused by decay.
Amalgam
Made of: A mixture of silver, tin, zinc, copper, and mercury. Mercury is nearly 50% of the mixture. Types: Traditional (non-bonded) Used for fillings in back teeth Lasts: At least 10 years, usually longer Costs: The least expensive type of restorative material
Advantages :
Amalgam fillings are strong. They can withstand the forces of chewing.
They are less costly than the alternatives.
Amalgam fillings can be completed in one dental visit.
They are less sensitive to moisture during the filling process than composite resin.
Disadvantages :
Amalgam doesn’t match the color of your teeth.
Amalgam fillings can corrode or tarnish over time. This can cause discoloration where the filling meets the tooth.
A traditional (non-bonded) amalgam filling does not bond (hold together) with your tooth.
The cavity preparation (the “pocket” in your tooth) developed by your dentist requires undercuts or ledges to keep the filling in place. Your dentist may have to remove more of the tooth to create a secure pocket.
Some people may be allergic to mercury or be concerned about its effects. Research shows that the amount of mercury exposure from fillings is similar to what people get from other sources in the environment.
Composite Resin
Made of: A mixture of plastic and fine glass particles. Types: Direct and indirect. Direct fillings are placed by your dentist using a bright blue light that hardens the soft material. For indirect fillings, your dentist prepares the tooth and takes an impression of it. A laboratory or the dentist then will make the filling from the mold. During a second visit, your dentist cements this filling into place. Used for: Small and large fillings, especially in front teeth or the visible parts of teeth; also for inlays Lasts: At least five years Costs: More than amalgam, but less than gold
Advantages :
Your fillings or inlay will match the color of your teeth.
A filling can be completed in one dental visit. An inlay may require two visits.
Composite fillings can bond directly to the tooth. This makes the tooth stronger than it would be with an amalgam filling.
Less drilling is involved than with amalgam fillings. That’s because your dentist does not have to shape the space as much to hold the filling securely. The bonding process holds the composite resin in the tooth.
Indirect composite fillings and inlays are heat-cured. This step increases their strength.
Composite resin can be used in combination with other materials, such as glass ionomer, to provide the benefits of both materials.
Disadvantages :
Composite resins cost more than amalgam fillings.
Although composite resins have become stronger and more resistant to wear, it’s not clear whether they last as long as amalgam fillings under the pressure of chewing.
The composite may shrink when placed, producing gaps between the tooth and the filling. This can lead to more cavities in areas where the filling is not making good contact with your tooth. The shrinkage is reduced when your dentist places this type of filling in thin layers.
These fillings take more time to place. That’s because they are usually placed in layers. The increased time and labor involved also contribute to the higher cost.
Indirect fillings and inlays take at least two visits to complete if your dentist is not prepared to make the inlay while you wait. Your dentist takes impressions on the first visit and places the filling or inlay on the second visit.
Cast Gold
Made of: Gold alloy (gold mixed with other metals) Used for Inlays and onlays, crowns Lasts: At least 15 years, usually longer Costs: More than most other materials; 6 to 10 times more expensive than amalgam
Advantages :
Gold doesn’t corrode.
Some people like the gold color better than the silver color of amalgam.
Gold fillings are durable enough to withstand chewing forces. They last longer than all other filling materials.
Disadvantages :
You must visit the dentist at least twice to receive a gold filling. At the first visit, the dentist makes an impression on your tooth and places a temporary filling. The gold filling is made from the impression. It is placed at a second visit.
The cost is high because of the high cost of gold and the work involved.
If gold and amalgam fillings are right next to each other in your mouth, an electric current can result from interactions between the metals and your saliva. This can cause discomfort, called “galvanic shock.”
Gold fillings are not tooth-colored.
Ceramics
Made of: Porcelain, most commonly Used for Inlays and onlays, crowns, veneers, implants, and orthodontic brackets Lasts: More than seven years Costs: More than composite and as much as or more than gold, depending on the filling.
Advantages :
Ceramics are tooth-colored.
Ceramics are more resistant to staining and abrasion than composite resin.
Disadvantages :
Ceramics are more brittle than composite resin and can break.
A ceramic inlay or onlay needs to be large enough to prevent it from breaking. This means that the tooth must be reduced in size to make room for the extra bulk. Consultation
