Angela, Registered Dental Hygienist

I have been in the dental field for over 16 years and the entire time have worked at Laurel Pines Dental Group. I started out as a dental assistant and later decided to continue my dental career and become a Dental Hygienist. I went to Baltimore City Community College where I earned my Associates of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene in 2006. I returned back to Laurel Pines Dental Group to continue my passion in dentistry and provide thorough, compassionate dental care to all of my wonderful patients.

Throughout the years I have acquired close ties with not only the rest of the staff but many of my patients. I truly love what I do and where I work, commuting from Carroll County over an hour each way to and from work to be here. Aside from work, I have an extremely active life caring for my 3 children, cats, dog, and chickens. I also try my best to stay fit and participate in obstacle course races year round. I look forward to seeing your smiling face here at Laurel Pines Dental Group.

Meet the Doctors 

Dr. Shawn Samad

Raised in Severna Park, MD, Dr. Shawn Samad is the proud son of Fred and Mary Samad, a working class couple that raised their children in a humble household. Dr. Samad grew up to be an avid sports fan. He still plays soccer regularly and is a HUGE Ravens fan! He went to college in Westminster, MD, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Biology and Chemistry with a special focus on Physics.    

He then continued his education at UMBC where he worked on a Masters degree in Biology. He then attended University of Maryland School of Dentistry where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.    

He has received extensive training and experience in Endodontics (Root Canals), Oral Surgery, Implantology, and Invisalign Orthodontics.  

His belief is Knowledge is Success!! He is still undergoing Continuing Education (CE) regularly in the newest, latest and greatest techniques and technology to improve our practice.

Dr. Samad's motto in his work is, “Changing lives, one tooth at a time.” Come on in and meet him. You won’t be disappointed!

Thomas R. a'Becket, DDS

Dr. a'Becket graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry and has practiced in Laurel since 1977. He enjoys providing dentistry for the entire family with a special interest in restorative implant treatment.

He is active in organized dentistry, and has served as President of the Southern Maryland Dental Society and Treasurer of the Maryland State Dental Association.    

Dr. a'Becket's interests include landscaping and bowling. He is married with two sons.   

Carl J. Oppenheim, DDS

Dr. Oppenheim enjoys the variety of general practice, especially creating sparkling smiles using up-to-date cosmetic and restorative techniques. He also has special interests in doing root canal treatments and headache prevention therapies.    

A native of Baltimore, he graduated with high honors from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1972 and the University of Maryland Dental School in 1976. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Maryland State Dental Association, and the Southern Maryland Dental Society.    

He is married and has two daughters. Dr. Oppenheim likes live theater and his hobbies include reading, playing cards (poker, hearts, and pitch) and stamp collecting. He also does watercolor painting.

Cambria (Bri), Registered Dental Hygienist

I started my career with Laurel Pines Dental Group 23 years ago as a dental assistant. After a few years I built a passion for Hygiene and decided to go back to school to earn my Hygiene degree. I attended and graduated from Allegany College of Maryland and returned to Laurel Pines Dental Group as a full time dental hygienist.

In the past 18 years since, I have developed many cherished relationships with my colleagues and patients! I take great pride in providing the most thorough cleanings and exams that my patients have ever experienced. I am a very proud mother who tries to stay active with my daughter Tierney’s dance competitions as well as my son Noland’s football games. My favorite past-time is spending time and relaxing with my wonderful husband and beautiful children at the beach in Ocean City, MD.
