PREMIERE: DJ Manny - Too High

If you don't know already, Misdigest - the blog / clubnight / label / radio show host / zine outlet first run out of Leeds, then London, now Barcelona - is probably one of the most genuine supporters of music culture going. For their long-gestating first release (dropping on the 1st of April) they've brought together a broad selection of tracks that goes some way in representing all the avenues Misdigest has explored since it's genesis back in 2011.

Chicago / Teklife mainstay DJ Manny comes through with a characteristically unembellished two and a half minutes, with a Stevie Wonder sample that sits front and centre atop a particularly raw beat. Whilst Too High initially allows the sample to unfold naturally, the introduction of the first few heavy kicks signals a move from the track's laid back, sun bleached daze towards a slightly uneasy descent. It isn't long before the paranoia hits, the mix balloons under the weight of the sub and DJ Manny starts tenderizing Stevie into hard, angular, rolling shapes that mirror the atmosphere of nausea before letting the anxious mood release and the smooth tones of 1970s bass rise back up to the surface.

Hailing from Melbourne, Dellity is is an artist whose unique style touches base with aspects from all over the bass music spectrum. Be it his marauding approach to constructing discombobulated grime beats or ambient explorations into the world of techno, he is a producer that can turn up to any party locked and loaded and ready to rumble.

‘Miss Collins’ featured on the latest compilation from Misdigest, Delete if Not Allowed. It’s a dreamy track built for the summer that shows a slightly softer side to Dellity’s productions, and you can take an exclusive first look at the video below.

The compilation itself is an exploration into contemporary approaches to music production, showing that although geographically dispersed, diverse artists can have a common musical context. The compilation includes tracks by DJ Manny, Masaki Uchida and Aerotonin and is available on Bandcamp.

Misdigest steps up to Groove Control bringing a dose of skippy Grime and breakneck Footwork

In typical Barcelona style Misbah and I have been saying that we’ll meet up for a coffee and chat music since err, February. It was only when this music video for ‘Miss Collins’ by Dellity popped up on Facebook, I noticed it was on Misdigest and I was like, hey! He dropped me the promo link and i’ve been playing all of the tracks at some point over the summer either on my radio show or in my DJ sets. 

As you can probably tell i’m quite into this glitch manipulation type stuff at the moment so was immediately drawn into the track and video. Finally we managed to catch up last week, grab a beer or two, put the musical world to rights and I asked him to come spin some tunes at the party on Friday where you can hear him drop some of his recommended club tracks...

So whats to come of Misdigest? Misbah comments: “In the five years since its conception misdigest has taken form as a blog and club night , a radio show and even most recently as a record label. The intention is always to promote the sounds of independent producers and musicians and this has always been at the core of any thing they have done. You are just as likely to hear a breakneck footwork beat as you are to hear a Skippy grime instrumental with the odd silky smooth vocal thrown into boot.”
