After falling in love with the Nathalie and sleeping with his first target, Corinna, Ludger ends up living two lives - one as an underground poet and one as a Stasi agent.

Trying to make a comedy involving the Ministry for State Security of Eastern Germany (and even proclaiming it in the title) can easily go wrong. And in this case it does.

It starts out funny at the traffic light, but beginning with the arrival of present day Ludger with his Stasi file at home, it quickly becomes clear that this will be a simple, lightweight affair. There's a strong element of 'it was not that bad back then', and the humour is mainly broad.

Haußmann has used this approach before. You have to be in the right mood for that to find it funny. In my case I was not. Though I admit the brief appearance of Karsten Speck made me smile.
