mr choi san. i'm sure a lot of you already know the whole fiasco about me realising and then denying the fact that he's been in the bias line from basically when i first discovered ateez, but the reason i didn't realise was bc my first comeback was deja vu and spock!san is just....... no thank u shdbwjbd so then when i realised he'd been affecting me whenever i watched older content and then when fever epilogue came out i was like. oh. fuck me then.

also i think another reason i didn't realise was bc in general, i tend to stay away from things that are other people's favourites. idk if this makes sense but like. things that are popular are immediately things that i don't want to like. so when my sister showed me ateez, and san is her ult, she told me san was the most popular member and even though i was watching his fancams and saving his photos from the beginning, i was like no i can't like him too much then bc everyone likes him WHICH IS SO STUPID I KNOW BUT WYCD

my list is mostly khiphop and kpop, but a few non-korean songs have made my year far too good not to include, those will be in bold italics. 

This was so hard. There were so many amazing songs that were released in 2016. It was honestly the year of good music for me, and it was so hard scrolling through my music library to try to pick just 15. I could have easily churned out a top 300. 

There is no specific order because picking just 15 was hard enough!! I can’t try ranking them either 😥

1. Rainy Day by ToppDogg 

Y’all okay, this group is slept on and I can’t understand why. They’re so talented and they put their all into their music and dance and everything they do tbh. I love the so much. Stan Toppdogg!!!

2. Murda by Chancellor ft Dok2

This song has been played every single day since it was dropped and I am living for it. Chancellor has a Weeknd vibe that I love and his whole album was insanely good. Plus the Dok2 feature was dope as fuck, he verse and bars gave me chills. 

3. JamCome on Baby (Eng. Ver) by Yoon Mirae 

Tasha is my queen, okay. I worship every track she’s ever done; on her own, as a part of MFBTY, or even as a feature. I love her so much. I love the hell out of the Korean version, but I am a hoe for Tasha singing and rapping in English. Her voice is the shit of gods, I’m serious. Plus I love the fact that I can sing along the whole time. 

4. Alcohol by Sik-k ft Jay Park 

Minsik owns my ass. Owns it. He would release a track of him breathing for 3 minutes and I’d hype the fuck out of it. He is my favorite Korean rapper, and my second favorite rapper of all time. His voice is just 😩😩 and Jay’s feature was poppin. Flip was my second most listened to album this year and I highly, highly, highly recommend checking out all of his music.  

5. YOX by Year of the Ox (Lyricks and JL) 

This song just came out on Christmas and it’s already my 4th most played song. I’ve been hyping Year of the Ox for over a year now. Lyricks has been one of my favorite rappers ��for the last 5 years, and JL has such a nice style and flow. Them together is heaven. If you like 90s feeling hiphop, check out their stuff.

6. Young Forever by BTS

This was so hard. It was hard to pick just one BTS song from this year. They were all sososo good. They have all been played on loop all year, but I settled with Young Forever it’s the song that hit me the hardest from them as a whole this year.

7. FXXK IT by BigBang

This song saved the end of the year for me tbh. I was having a really, really rough time this December and then they went a dropped the track of the year and pulled my ass out of my bad moods and made me so happy. but also lowkey made me sad bc my boy TOP is leaving soon hdfkjghd.

8. Very Nice by Seventeen 

I just got into Seventeen a few weeks ago so I am superrrr late to this train, but oh my goddd!! They are so good. Honestly I avoided them for a while bc I didn’t think why would live up to their hype and they seemed too out of my tastes, but fuck me was I wrong. I’m Seventeen trash and I am proud of it. 

9. Deja Vu by Junoflo

This song... I am obsessed. I love Juno’s voice and his flow. I love the MV. I just...I love everything about this song. This song made my year. Juno was my favorite American rapper on SMTM5. I’m so glad he’s back. I’m glad he’s releasing Korean tracks. I’m glad he’s signed to Feel Ghood Music. I’m just so glad about everything to do with Junoflo. 

10. Bermuda Triangle by Zico ft Crush and Dean

This collab was everything I ever wanted. Zico’s rap was as flawless as ever, and Crush and Dean’s parts were so good. Tbh Dean’s part struck me in the soul and stuck there it was so fucking lit, even if it was kind of short. 

11. Eung Freestyle by Live, Sik-k, Punchnello, Owen Ovadoz, and Flowsik

This was the cypher of the year. Hands down. These 5 are in my top 10 rappers and seeing them all come together and dropping literal fucking fire was amazing. This is my number one played song of the year. 

12. Me Like Yuh by Jay Park

Okay, of the three people who own my ass Jay is one of them. I trust Jay with my life and I will listen to anything he drops, and I will love it. And this track is a blessing. I missed Jay’s english tracks, and I was sososo glad to see so many on Everything You Wanted. 

13. The 7th Sense by NCT U

This track, holy shit. This was so good. SM you fucking assholes bring back NCT U, and bring back this sound. This is what I live for. I never expected this lowkey trap sound out of SM and then they did it??? And TOOK IT AWAY?? I need more of this for you SM. Step up your game, smh. 

14. Murals by Dumbfoundead

Y’all I love Dumbfoundead. I’ve loved him for the last four years. His flow is amazing, his lyrics are amazing, his sound is amazing. I l o v e him. The album he dropped this year is hands down in my top 5 albums of the year. Bless. 

15. July by Kris Wu 

Listen, Kris was my bias in EXO before he left. And after he left I stayed so far stuck up his ass it’s not even funny. Idc what anyone says, this song is a JAM and always will be. He’s doing what he enjoys and it shows. This song is amazing and is my #2 most played song from this year.

• fave&least title track: fave is a tie between ‘jealousy’ & ‘dramarama’. & my least fave is ‘hero’ which is a super unpopular opinion sorry but </3 i only like it live

• fave&least bside: well impossible bc they have so many but if i HAD to choose then ‘myself’. or ‘destroyer’ or ‘ghost’. least fave is ‘calm down’ but only bc i get rly annoyed when ppl tell me to calm down but thats a personal problem </3

• fave&least fave mv: ‘ALL IN’ OMGGGG stfu. how can that nkt be my fave. happy pride. my least fave though is probably ‘fantasia’ since it had like 1 location and was pretty boring even though it looked pretty yknow. also there wasn’t a story & i rly like mx’s plot-driven mvs

• fave&least fave album: fave 100% is ‘the connect deja vu’. least fave ig is ‘rush’ sorry but their 2015 music is just eh ok ! to me

• a concept i wish they’d try: ooh idk theyve already done like as “cute” as possible w mvs like newton & from zero. maybe like the fun sci-fi/fantasy/dystopian concepts that they were doing w lost guilty beautiful trilogy. rly just anything w a narrative again :,)

• what i like most about them: heehee well idk theyre just rly funny and entertaining to watch off the stage !! & on stage theyre incredibly talented & their music is just sooo fun. and i know we dont know idols bc theyre just Some People but idk things they’ve said on vlives or at concerts or at fansigns they just seem like they rly care abt ppl. also kihyun fucking hates men lmaooo. king

• member that stood out to me: the one vocalist w the ?? beads on his eyelashes????? i loooved his voice. also the other vocalist with the blue hair. im guessing theyre both main vocals

• if i’ll listen to more of them or not: YEAH 100% wtf why dont i listen to the kpoppies when they tell me i’ll like a group
