tons of clothing for sure but also, furs and pelts so I can have a like hunters lodge room, typewriters, cameras, dolls, historical books, so much fine art paintings I want a mini museum room, a fake movie theatre room with old movie advertisments (like those cut outs they used in the 30s), tea room with handmade tea pots and 100s of teas, a indoor glass garden thats massive with statues and entire ecosystems of plants (rainforest room, desert room), a massive outdoor garden with 1000s of edible plants, a plantierium with cool rocks and 3d models of space thats decorated with stars on the ceiling, god so much.

I've been wondering this for a while now: reblog and put in the tags what items you'd collect if you had unlimited space and unlimited funds. I'd collect music boxes, especially horse-themed music boxes.

Part III Adding counter pull

After I dressed the boards with this interesting looking papyrus paper (it’s more like two layers of flattened papyrus fibre than paper to be honest) I noticed pretty soon that the papyrus, which had to be worked with a lot of moisture to not break, has a pull from hell. I got all bendy duck beak shaped boards. There was only a little chance for the paper I’d use for doublure to offer enough of a counter pull to get the boards even. So I added an extra sheet of non-decocrative paper to counter that pull.

So I cut my edges on the inside of the cover straight, cut a piece of paper, that I knew would stretch a lot when moistened, to size (actually I cut it a bit shorter in the direction it would stretch so it would still fit without overlapping after stretching) and glued it in. Then I weighed it down and let the this layer completely dry.

Now here’s the thing about pull. As soon as you work with paper, leather, parchment, to a minor degree even fabrics, you will get some pull on the boards. How much that will warp your boards depends highly on what you use. There are papers that have very little pull and others that have a lot. With leather it depends on how moist it was and how much it was stretched when covering the boards. Parchment is a particularly tricky candidate here, because not only does the pull depend on how moist it was worked, but also every hide comes with different pull, every part of the hide can be different and it additionally it depends on the climate one is working in.

The pull is what warps boards, but funny enough, most of the time it’s not as big of a problem as one would think because when making a book the pasted down endpapers offer enough counter pull to keep the boards straight (if one has warped boards from the covering material, one can try and give the endpapers more time to stretch when applying glue, once the paper is fully relaxed = doesn’t try to roll in on itself, it gives maximum counter pull)

The effect can be seen on a piece of board I prepared to make a box. One half was for parts that were to be glued to another piece of board, the other half was to be used as a it was. The side that was to be used as it was, got laminated with paper on both sides. With both the same paper giving the same pull it lays completely flat. The other half bends notably to the side the paper was added.
