[Lowkey... Follow the cat.]
Melody sits at her desk, curiously inspecting each element of her equipment loadout. The matching white leather necklace and cuffs she received from Stratus as Valentine’s gifts are enchanted with “Girlfriend Privileges.” The game has given her an increased damage stat for having her phone equipped as a phone from the jump. She plugs said properly equipped Android into her desktop, seeing her phone, the cord, and her computer glow purple neon.
“That’s neat. I wonder if I can talk to my friends without skûpe now.” Melody comments, continuing through the comments on her outfit. “Not quite yet,” the British narrator chimes through her computer speakers. “Once everyone has their mobile interface installed, you’ll be able to use the party chat function.”
“!!! Does it have text, or just voice chat?” Melody asks, a bit surprised to be addressed directly by the disembodied posh voice.
“It contains both, at least after you’ve all finished your first quest. Initially, party chat is only text. By the way, you can give me a nickname for ease of reference.”
“Hmm.” She sees the SBurbisk app open on her phone, and takes a moment to ponder the simple design before unplugging the cord. “I’ll call you Apollo.”
“A fine name,” Apollo says, a small microphone icon appearing in the corner of her interface as they speak. “If you long-press that SBurbisk title card there, you’ll see a menu to help you along your adventure.”
Melody navigates to the options menu, opting to toggle on the closed captions. “Glad to see that feature. More games should have that. Who would pick Ultra Hard difficulty right at the beginning?”
“Some players find the added challenge of having a near-pointless map interface to be more enjoyable.” Apollo’s narration now appears as text on her phone in addition to their voice through the speakers.
She clicks through the gear comments on her desktop again to see Apollo’s recommendations before stepping away from her desk to put on a bra and some Adventuring Shoes. She sees her Emergency Pocket Torch, and decides to grab that as well before embarking on her quest. She uses the equipment screen to check if her stats have changed.
“. . . A flamethrower? I use this thing to light my friends’ pre-rolls in the wind.”
“Yes. Be careful with it; you’ll notice as you venture outside that this isn’t exactly a normal city. Though I don’t think anyone will be needing their prerolls sparked, the flame on that thing would easily singe their entire face off if you tried it.”
“Heheh. Cool.” Melody grabs her daybag, already stocked with incidentals and extra snacks, as any respectable purse should be.
Apollo chimes in, “Congratulations, you are now adventure ready!”
“Yay!” Melody says softly as she exits her house.
Upon stepping outside, she realizes what Apollo meant by this not being a “normal city.” It is, in fact, not a city at all. Despite it being about 4:30, the whole sky is sunset hues. The sun, poised almost cartoonishly atop low hills in the distance, is . . . blue? The saturated dark blue of an ink pen. The suburban landscape she would usually see is gone, her house now alone in a pastel landscape of rolling hills that almost look like scoops of soft serve.
Melody stands outside her house, the bizarre appearance of her new environment jarring her a bit. She sees what looks like a Rather Large black cat appear from seemingly nowhere, as well as other dreamish creatures materializing about the ice-creamscape. “A kitty! I wonder if it’s friendly,” she wonders aloud, holding out one hand as though to offer the creature a treat. It approaches, the details of its floofiness becoming more definite. The dimensions of the beast are sharpening as well; Melody can tell this cat is At Least a whole foot taller than her.
The allure of soft fur and giant paw pads turns to a bit of fright as the cat approaches. Its fangs are visible like its snout were merely skeletal, large human eyes with bright white irises and uneven pupils seem to see through her. The cat sits down a few feet in front of her, curling its luscious tail about its massive paws.
“Hello,” the creature begins, its voice distorted and electronic. “Welcome to Land of Kawaii Illusions. I have a quest for you.”
The resonance of the cat’s voice certainly suits the terror of its face. It certainly crosses our hero’s mind that a cat this size probably has the power level of a small enraged tiger, and as such could potentially render her to shreds. She refrains from attempting to pet the six-foot cat.
“A quest? What does it entail?” Melody asks, outwardly unperturbed.
“Accompany me to the Cave of North. There, I will instruct you on the ways of this land. Feel free to pet my soft fur.”
“Sounds a little sketchy to me. What’s your name, kitty?”
“I am called Creamsicle. What is your name, inquisitive child?”
“I’m Melody. And I’m 25, so definitely not a child. Let me ask my mobile interface.”
“You adventure log indicates ‘follow the cat?’”
“Well, let’s go then! Lead the way, Creamsicle!”
Creamsicle leads the way, an old-looking pathway appearing before them as Melody walks alongside the giant cat. She gently pets Creamsicle’s tall leg, finding its fur to be quite soft indeed.
“So,” Melody begins, “does everything on this planet phase into existence from nowhere, or is that just because I got here like ten minutes ago?”
“As you explore the land, its locations will fill in your Adventure Map. I don’t recommend venturing beyond the tall mountains.”
“Uh. Why not? Adventuring is about exploring everywhere.”
“You would essentially fall off the edge of the planet. I attempted it myself once.”
“But isn’t there like… outer space to float into? SUrely I wouldn’t just dematerialize into nonexistance.”
“Hm. When I fell off, I fell for a very, very long time, and landed on my feet inside a strange cave. After that, I took a nap.”
“Why wouldn’t the same thing happen to me then?”
“Because you, dear Melody, were born on Earth B7x52, meaning you are made of carbon particles and other physically touchable stuff. Enough questions for now. We’ve arrived at the Cave of North.”
Before her stands indeed a “cave,” a vaguely shaped pile of. . . something rising from the hard-frozen sherbert ground. The shape looks like rocks, if rocks could be cell-shaded and transparent. There is a normal looking door, with the same purple glow she saw on her computer earlier.
“Is this place a hologram?” Melody asks, reaching for the glowy doorknob in hesitation.
“I suppose so. I’m just a beast-cat. Come on now, open the door. My treat giver is inside.”

Emo AU ch 2
Now, however, he had taken to going to Gilbert’s house before beginning the treck to class. His sister would be sitting at the kitchen table with an iPod and thick headphones, often working through a bag of pretzles to go with the energy drink in a neon can. Hat marking her as a manager of a drugstore sat on her knee, daybag at her ankle, waiting to take her brother to school before she began her own day. She looked up at Tolys as he let himself in through the kitchen door, glanced at the teenager sitting across from her with a bowl of something dubious, and tilted her head in acceptance. Tolys was less inclined.
"Gilbert, is that oatmeal cooked?" He asked as he approached, dropping his bag by the cabinettes.
"It's instant," Gil replied through the milk and chopped oats he was barely chewing.
"It's--it takes two minutes in the microwave," Tolys picked up the box from the table, interrupting Gilbert’s reading of the nutrition facts. He turned it to show him the instructions, brow furrowed. "You're meant to cook this."
"I'll be done by then," Gil shrugged, and Julia sighed. Evidently, her music was not that loud, nor her headphones too tight.

Regressor!Blue Headcanons
While Blue has a fairly wide regression range (dropping anywhere from infant to nine and averaging most days at a solid five and a half), he can typically tell when he's going to slip into the lower end of things. He's lucky in that there's signs he is going to drop quite low that he recognizes in himself, of course—the way the colors of the world feel too bright around him, sounds and voices becoming harder to parse and make out, or how even the air he breathes starts to feel so heavy. When his body starts sending him these signals he knows he's got to find someone to keep a careful eye on him and mind after him. Because any other time? He prefers to regress alone. It's easier when he doesn't have anyone to tell him he can't toddle after the wild Caterpie all afternoon, can't tell him that maybe three cookies is pushing it when the only other thing he's had are some carrot sticks; Blue is always on the go, has so much going on, that he thinks he deserves to relax how he wants when the stress builds up too much. Though as stubborn as he is, even he recognizes that a baby should probably have a cg around. Which is where the daycare system comes into play!
Now, of course there are plenty of daycares where a trainer can drop off their Pokémon. But what about a safe place for trainers to rest when they start feeling tiny? Regression is surprisingly common among the countless number of traveling trainers in the world, and so it isn't uncommon to find a dual-daycare that will keep an eye on your Pokémon while you get some well-earned small time. All dual-daycares are tended to by Caretaker Jiji with the help of her Indeedee, similar to how Nurse Joy and her Chansey can be found at any Pokémon Center. This is extremely comforting to someone like Blue, who is already pretty reluctant to let anyone act as his cg in any capacity; a friendly and familiar face that he can trust means everything when the world is big and confusing! And while Jiji has many cousins in the same line of work, Blue prefers to visit the same daycare when he can—specifically the one that lies outside of the Viridian City proper and hedges on the edge of Viridian Forest, canopied by the lush woods and looking the picture of a cozy cottage that promises every creature comfort imaginable.
Blue always has such a tight hold over himself and his emotions, and this naturally extends to when he allows himself to regress; no matter how little he slips on any given day, he is an expert at snapping himself back from his smallspace. Really, it's quite impressive how easily he appears to be able to turn it off and on! So when he arrives at the daycare and gets checked in? He slips seamlessly as Jiji is reminding him of the rules and the evolution stone chart he can move his magnet to should he start feeling nonverbal, going over how small he's feeling today and what snacks she's got prepped that he might like, helpfully chiming in that if he forgot anything in his daybag not to worry about that because she has plenty of extra pacis, toys, blankies—really anything he might need! Blue listens to her upbeat rambling and, finding a safety in it, allows himself to sink down as low as he needs to go in order to recharge his batteries without worrying about any judgement. Her words start sounding as if she's speaking through cotton, or maybe that's all in his head? As he's taken by the hand and led into the day room however he finds that he doesn't really need to know why everything is so muted, and instead just takes comfort in the fact that it is.
However, that ability to easily switch headspaces? It is incredibly deceiving. One might assume that that means he doesn't fall so deeply into that sweet haze of regression, but that is far from the truth. Once he's there, he's fully there. Which is why he can't exactly spend his baby days alone. And which is also why Jiji has her work cut out for her—even when Blue is the only regressor using the daycare's services, he is something of a handful to put it mildly. But it isn't his fault! He is just a very inquisitive baby! The little guy can and will crawl around and get into anything and everything he can because he's just so curious about things. There's never an intention to misbehave on his part, his mind being too fuzzy for that sort of scheming. Regardless of intent though, Blue is a master of wandering off when the caretaker has her back turned even for a second. Especially when they are enjoying tummy time outside for the day when the weather is nice. Although it helps that Indeedee can pick up on spikes in the baby's curiosity and guide him back towards the blanket spread across the soft grass (and decidedly away from the Pidgey he was going to crawl into the forest after).
Inside play is markedly a better option if only to reduce the risk of him getting lost. Blue is happy either way, though typically inside play presents him with something new and exciting: toys. Toys of all varieties are something that he absolutely adores—reminding him of how his grandfather would spoil him when he was a kid—but not something he buys for himself to have when he's regressing elsewhere. Blue doesn't get any sort of regression gear for himself aside from the bare basics/necessities. Those necessities being one sippy, one blankie, and one teether. But at the daycare? He's playing with everything. There's a Dragonite and a Charizard plushie keeping him company for the day, sitting faithfully by his side as he fiddles with a See 'n Say that has Pokémon from the Galar region. Blue pulls the little lever repeatedly until the big arrow lands on Appletun, causing a bright smile to light up his face and pulling out a breathy little giggle before he starts his little game over again, pouting when it lands on Perrserker the next go around.
Though the See 'n Say can only keep Blue's attention for so long. He's a flighty type of baby in the sense that he is constantly cycling through activities; there is no low-energy sleepy baby here! And Jiji juggles many different activities to keep Blue entertained and not cranky—once he's done with the See 'n Say it's on to watching the little puppet show she has set up, to the sensory tub filled with kinetic sand, to the picture books that she reads to him (and rereads a few times, as is the case with Woobat Goes on Holiday). There is only one activity that can hold Blue's attention for well over an hour, and once he's entranced by it Jiji lets him have at it. And just what is this paramount of playtime? Why, it is none other than the simple shape sorter! Something about watching the shapes go bye-bye, the blocks falling with a soft clack on the inside of the sorter, the sense of satisfaction...it's completely captivating for Blue given how little he is in the moment. But a crucial aspect of playing with the shape sorter is that he cheeses it. Loves cheesing it, even. The circle? Goes in the square hole. The triangle? Goes in the square hole! Do not correct him, he knows what he's doing, thanks.
Even after a long day filled with fun at daycare, Blue is still difficult to put down for a nap at the end of it all. But Jiji is a true expert in her field and never loses patience! Not to mention she has a trick up her sleeve—the guest information folder. The check-in slips that he has to fill out each time he comes in become his undoing. Looking over his file, Jiji knows the perfect nap set-up for a certain stubborn kiddo that is fighting sleep based on his responses. Indeedee is already making a blanket nest as she is gently coaxing Blue into the idea that he's going to lay down for his afternoon bottle, that he doesn't have to go to sleep but it's okay if he does. And before he knows it, she's got him tucked in with a warm bottle and his Pokédex propped beside him reading out the data entry for Sylveon. With his eyes trained on watching the Miltank mobile spin above him, Blue eventually drifts off to sleep. He'll leave the daycare when he wakes up, but for now he has a moment to sleep without any of the pressures of his life.

When we arrived yesterday at the airport, I called a Guesthouse near by and together with a kind French couple we ended up at a very friendly family.
Somehow I could not sleep that night, Johy did her best to take me with her to the dreamland but this whole day I was super tiered and in a bad mood.
Johy took over the management and we took a bus inland. After three hours of stop and go we both fell asleep. When we woke up Johy’s daybag was gone. Our Diary and the phone full of pictures hurt the most. The missing passport as the biggest burden to travel further and the new camera, money and and many small things with a lot of heart.
Anger and despair in the alternation!!!
The rest of the day we spent at the police station. Johy trying to lock her online accounts, sim card… and me trying to get the police complaint for the embassy.

I have no idea what's in it, btw, I just thought it would be fun to speculate.
I don't have his wallet or phone in the list much because he seems to always have the wallet in a back pocket and the phone in a front one.
BUT to bend down to look at records he may have had to move it.

My Stepfather: "We ride at dawn!"
*finishes packing the night before the trip, gets up at five am, has a shower and breakfast, realizes he forgot to pack just a few items, repacks absolutely everything, changes his shirt three times, can't make his mind which shoes to wear in the car, dithers for an hour about whether to pack a lunch or just buy something on the road, needs to send just one more email before leaving, jacket jacket which jacket to wear*
Me and my mother: "We'll get going sometime before noon."
*get up at eight-ish, throw stuff into the nearest daybag, have a quick shower, in the car with travel mug full of coffee at nine am ready to grab breakfast and hit the highway*
There's people for whom "we're leaving in the morning" means "we ride at dawn motherfuckers, you can finish waking up and getting dressed in the car, we'll grab breakfast somewhere along the way", and there's people for whom it means "we'll get going somewhere before noon".
And then they get married.

Julian hesitates, wishing he'd brought at least a basic medical tricorder in their daybag to check his temperature, but then he can't resist his little face. He makes a worried sound, but he nods, then gets out a set of cards to teach Essan to play Go Fish. After that, he has pictionary and matching games and plenty more, but the trouble comes when Essan needs to go to the toilet, because it could mean their first separation from Garak, who Julian is almost unbelievably worried about. "Garak?" he prompts gently. "How do you want to handle this? If we all go together, there's the problem of leaving our spot and our things unsupervised." Not that Julian is worried about that, but he's aware that Garak will be. "But you asked me not to leave you alone."
He wants to play. Julian has plenty of games, but he's not sure he has any that can be played from under a blanket. He mentally runs through his options and the results aren't encouraging. "How about some brain teasers?" he suggests. "Or we can try some puzzles? It's just going to be hard to play a game and keep you warm, love."

i love packing little bags..... not like huge vacation suitcase packing but just little daybags of things to do... my sketchbook and journal and stationery tools and a novel and my handheld gaming console and headphones and maybe some snacks...... even if the only place i'm going is from one room to the next in my own house and even if i don't use most of what i packed it still gives me so much serotonin to just arrange all my little goodies in a satisfying way in a cute little bag..... strongly recommend you simply do some shopping around your own house and just gather up things you like in one place for a little treat to your brain and also maybe even as an inadvertent gratitude exercise to say "i may want or need a lot of other things but look at all the nice or at least useful things i do have"
#mar.txt#maybe this is materialistic of me but that's who i am tbh#i simply like stuff and all the things u can do with stuff#even just touching or looking at it
