Day 298 art meditation … Advent calendar door day December 18 …

I don’t think you understand just how hard fought my happiness is. How much my art and writing is a lifeline. This extended trip back home was necessary. I needed to know that past old, crappy, patterns of my childhood were not my imagination. I know it’s too late for old people (by which I mean over 80, not over 50 🙂) to change their patterns (programming) completely, but I am grateful for the fact that for my mother, every day is New, and she enters it with an exuberance to do better. I would even add with new Awareness, which is pretty huge.

This trip was necessary to test out how thick my heart-space is now, and if I can build Mom’s up. I truly believe that the pissed side of her is only her ego. Which is how you get favorite children, I now realize … I’m never the favorite because I make Mom do inner work, inner work she doesn't want to do. Is she noticing that once her balloon ego is popped, she is actually fine, there is this whole heart in there…

This is my true purpose: poke at your ego. WITH my heart.

What’s amazing to me is that even at age 54-½, I still crumble into silence, and I have to be careful about not holding onto the tired weepiness as my ongoing old identity on this vacation. If Mom is going to try harder, then I must too.

In spite of everything dark that passed (see dark art), I love this house. Sharing photos of some mini views of my parent’s house, the beautiful third floor room, her German Advent straw stars and a red paper mobile I made for her … Our house and everything in it, is our Heart Space.

It’s Day 298 of the Windy Wessagusset Wimple of 2024. The wind was out of the NNE at 11mph with gusts to 14mph at 1pm. The temperature was 66°, and felt like was 59°. I used the Orchid color of Red Heart Super Saver yarn to show the wind was out of the NNE. I knit in stockinette stitch to show the wind was blowing at 11mph. It was a mostly sunny day in Wessagusset with some clouds in the sky. It was cooler today because of the steady wind off the water, and although I wore a sweatshirt it began to feel chilly while I was taking my photos. It was a welcome relief to get back in the house to some warmth. Today I kept th door and windows closed to keep the warmth in without turning on the heat. There I more warmth returning in the forecast, which will keep me feeling happy about getting to the end of October without turning on the heat in the house. Little blessings men so much these days. Be safe out there.

I blame C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe for my magical inclination towards lampposts. I can’t help myself. If there is one in the vicinity, I will touch it and hope deep in my heart that I will open my eyes and find myself in Narnia. The same goes for large wardrobes of which I’ve only ever met one - Mama Aleyda’s in Colombia and that was filled with clothes, papers and faded memories.

Yes, has my voracious appetite for imaginary worlds coupled with my vivid imagination hindered my grasp of reality? Slightly so. Yes, I know that touching the lamppost won’t actually transpose my very physical body to another place, let alone a fantasy realm but a GIRL CAN DREAM OK. Like if you saw a bloody TARDIS just chillin’ in a dark corner somewhere or see a young kid carrying parchment in one hand and a caged owl in another that the very core of your being wouldn’t burst into endless euphoria as you sped towards with inhumane speed and agility?

Listen. I would shuck young children across the road and punt the elderly through shop windows if they stood between me and a chance to travel through all of space and time. So as ridiculous as it may seem (or endearingly violent as I like to see it) I will never give up on the chance for magic. Lord knows we need it now more than ever.

- [ ] It’s Day 298 of the Great Hill Humidity and Dew Point Differential Scarf 2023. The humidity was 61%, the dew point was 50, and the differential between the humidity and the dew point was 11 today. I am using the Frosty Green color of Red Heart Super Saver yarn. I am working my stitches in the “garter stitch” pattern to indicate the differential between the humidity and the dew point was 11 at 11am. It was sunny early in the day in Wessagusset, but as the day progressed clouds moved in, and took over. It was warm today, and when the wind finally quit, it was warm and pleasant. It was much more like a summer day than a late October day. It was my birthday, so I got calls from my kids and their families, beautiful roses, interesting mystery books, shirts, and fudge. It was a lovely day. There is only one boat left in the water now. The season is almost over for the year save for the fishing boats which never stop plying the waters. Be safe out there.
