in MY opinion, i really like jade in postcanon in general. OBVIOUSLY, the stuff with davekat SUCKS + IS WEIRD + outb of character (i doubt jade would cross boundaries in such a weird way? like a girl can take a hint esp for the people she loves.) but in the update it goes over jade and why she did what she did and like a cute little summary of the yiffy situation. i never really hated yiffy? and i hate yiffy even less with the update. narration + backstory with reasoning did its job.

SUMMARY, AS I SEE IT: jade was dating around mortals but came to the conclusion that they dont want HER, they want to say they dated the GOD OF SPACE. they wanted clout and she hated it. and i dont know. i think she went a little crazy cus of it. she was like I am truly alone in this world. Im cursed to be alone. Im doomed because of my aspect. How can i fix this. solution: HAVE A BABY. and it needs to be one of her god friends. she cant have a baby with a random mortal. john and dave are boys; they cant bear children. she cant have a baby with roxy or jane because she doesnt know them well. that leaves: rose lalonde so jade has a baby with rose lalonde and keeps it a secret. she talks to jane, and this is fine because its largely professional, and she makes sure yiffany (the baby) doesnt become a celebrity. yiffy is normal. yiffy is a normal kid and she has a normal life. jade needs her to have a normal life. jade needs to feel that connection with normality that she never had, jade needs to make sure yiffy doesnt go through the same damn thing she did. and she keeps it a secret. she bonded with rose. if kanaya finds out, thatll tear all three of them apart. jade craves the company. jade craves friendship and closeness. but of course, shes a space player and shes doomed. so they find out. and yiffy gets on the news. and everything is torn

ANYWAY: i think thats so cool. i think thats a great explanation. i think jade WOULD do that is the thing. its a logical train of thought and she makes some stupid mistakes and bad decisions but overall its rational. if i was in her situation i would probably do the same thing. yiffany longstocking is like jade harleys' my love mine all mine by mitski you get me. jade harley yearns for the closeness and having a baby can fill that. what other option did she have? she was crazy

I have no clue why they nailed home davekat as hard as they did tbh. And this is once again coming from the person who used to be huge into davekat, to the point where when i got back into homestuck it was a legit shock for me to not really like it anymore. Davekat being my otp used to be like. Part of my fandom identity and now its just kinda?? Davekat itself isn’t cringe but dear god i feel like the way the hs team handled davekat is. Makes me a feel a little embarrassed if some cute art makes me smile which is wild. It’s gotten to the point where i really only like davekat if its fully removed from source and in its own little bubble. I feel like the reason is because of how they treat gamzee and gamkar tbh. I can’t really agree with the people saying “hey this is what you should be shipping” when the same people are fumbling an amazing character and concept so hard that they absolutely ruin it. If anything it makes me want to explore gamzee more as a proper character. I want gamzee to be given a fair chance and to be treated with the same respect and dignity that vriska got.

Anyways my OTP,,,, is,,, NAKAMASHIP!!!! There's nothing more that I love than the strawhat crew ; - ; I have literally shed tears over all of my strawhats and I love that they all love eachother deeply... On my one piece reread- I made sure to pay extra attention to all the character interactions and jokes. And can I just say, I see so many people talk about how the strawhats barely interact post time skip, or that some characters are basically strangers to each other (I saw someone say this about Franky and Zoro), but THEY DO TALK!!! THEY HAVE SO MANY FUN INTERACTIONS!!!

Oda is SO good at balancing these funny little character moments between important story beats >:O I think Zou in particular had a bunch of nakamaship moments that I really loved. One of my favourite lesser loved dynamics in the crew is usopp and robin (which you would know if you looked at my art of them XD) because they have a bunch of funny bits between them :3

My romantic OTP of all time is ZOLU THOUGH. And I tried really hard to not ship it immediately when i first started reading one piece, because I do this kind of thing alot when I get into media where I latch onto the protag and the guy close to the protag and ship em together??? Like I was so obsessed with JohnDave that DaveKat just hurt me,,, And I liked bakudeku so much that I couldn't get into kiribaku... AND I DIDNT WANT THE TREND TO CONTINUE TO ONE PIECE T - T And it SOMEWHAT did, but it also somewhat didnt. For those unaware, about a week ago i made an askpost on @davekat-sucks's blog as a response to another askpost about this guy, who was accusing the englishpumpkinparty discord server of harrassing them, when most of that was either a consequence of his weird behaviour or punished by the server admins.

It seems this guy is still trying to find a way to get back at people in epp who called him out for his behaviour by now attacking davekatsucks, who they previously tried to use as a soapbox.

Either way, beware of this guy. Hes not necessarily a bad person or anything, just a very prone liar and manipulator, according to both his behaviour on the epp discord and some stories from people i will not name here nor anywhere else.

not even homestuck 2's staff say "June" John is still John in the comic now and he is still John in questionnaires. Why does the fandom even pretend John is a girl at this point? Dave is now davecat (ala davekat) as he loses karkat in the fallout of all this, and kanaya becomes Mary, the remaining half of Rosemary now that rose has died. was this intentional? And, further, assuming this wont be expounded on later in the fic due to its entirely meta nature, how do you feel the changes reflect their characters, with Dave INCORPORATING the phonetic match of davekat, and kanaya Explicitly Removing the rose? Or is all this just nonsense?

the davecat/davekat pun is intentional, and kanaya choosing "mary" out of rosemary is also intentional, but i hadn't actually thought much about how they mirror each other in their relationship to their relationships! dave doesn't think of himself as catdave of course, but the presence of that pun in the reader's mind certainly helps reinforce the fact that davekat didn't explicitly *break up.* actually you know what i'm gonna go on an extended tear about some dualism because i want to, regardless of how on topic it is

i've said before that i wanted godfeels kanaya in 3.2 onwards to echo kanaya in homestuck^2. in hs2, her divorce fever manifests through the adoption of a nun's attire and a distant longing for her wife. kind of a "when will my beloved return from the war" type thing.

i remember folks having a problem with that interpretation of kanaya being passive in a ooc way? but i think it's notable we never got far enough to see her in action, and let's remember that she's still ON the ship headed to deltritus, to rescue rose and kick dirk's ass. so you know. it's hard not to be passive when you're stuck on a ship waiting to arrive at plot

(which is a criticism of hs2 i appreciate, even if i don't entirely agree for a number of reasons we definitely don't have time for)

so anyway, the thing about hs2 kanaya is that her wife disappeared without talking to her. it's not just that she's separated from her wife, fundamentally there's a betrayal involved-- which the characters (and thus the readers) sublimate into anger at dirk for having manipulated and controlled rose into going down that path in the epilogues... but i think it's genuinely up for debate whether or not rose was, in fact, altogether 100% mind-controlled by dirk. is she really under his thrall, or is she playing into the role because it's better than dying of existential migraine? or because she's bored of her life on earth c and wants to spice things up in the bedroom with reaaaaaaaaaally extended foreplay? rose has always been a melodramatic bitch after all, that's what everyone forgets loves about her!

of course to my mind it's even an open question whether rosemary divorce fever in hs2 was straight up an agreed-upon longform romantic roleplay. i mean what better way to larp your femknight in shining nunarmor ravishing you romantically from the clutches of the weeaboo dragon fantasy than Literally Making It Happen In Real Life? you see i liked hs2 precisely because it had an ambiguity of purpose in its characters that lent itself to all sorts of juicy interpretations. yeah they probably plodded around in that a bit too long, but let's not pretend that the fandom ever approached hs2 with even a sliver of patience or good faith to see its ideas through to the end

so mary is a post-rose kanaya who has to choose between obsessing over the loss of her wife or moving on into a completely new existence. now then, on the flipside of that you've got dave, who doesn't have that same dividing line between his First Real Relationship and the rest of his life. he says to himself "karkat will wait for me," and so presumably intends to find his way back to earth c sooner or later. but he also has to live in the present, deal with his own shit, continuing to grow and change in unknowable ways. so where mary has to accept that it's okay to become a person her wife would not recognize, dave has to confront whether he can live with himself if he becomes someone that karkat won't recognize. he has to interrogate whether or not his boyfriend's unconditional love will remain unconditional as the two of them grow and change apart from one another.

so yeah, there's some juicy dramatic resonance in the davecat & mary puns. which, you know, will almost certainly have no intersection with june's situation or dana's situation or lenore's situation hahaha

One thing that has always annoyed me about the fandom is this whole.. standby lesbians thing with rosemary. This has been said so many times before but I'm saying it again cause it's STILL annoying and people still do it so like. . Often they're just sort of. Being there. In the background of other(mostly MLM) ships, serving as this prop. Like when people draw davekat/dirkjake/pepsicola/etc they're always doing something like talking or cuddling or shopping or it's like a shitpost about divorce or something or whatever. But very often when i see rosemary it's like. They're just eerily standing next to one another and smiling. Like almost the entire fandom agrees that it's a good ship, but literally no one actually wishes to understand their personalities or their bond beyond that. It's just. Prim and proper lesbian rep to fill in the gaps. Much of their tags on social media are filled with this very bland fanon version of them, and very often it's accompanied by a different, more characterized ship as the main focus of the post. They're just kinda there to sit still and look pretty. Like I've seen people crackship yaoi just for the sake of yaoi and call it the ship of the century but the same group would tell you that rosemary is boring because uhhhhh smart words and uhh girl read book. The ao3 tag is also atrocious. I need to break my neck to find good content for one of the only canon pairings in HS 💀

sadly this doesn’t just happen in homestuck, this happens in almost every fandom. and then ppl ask why sapphic creators are so LOUD???. someone has to provide the actually accurate awesome stuff… it’s so funny because whenever i read a wlw fic with an mlm side pairing they still do them justice… i feel like a wlw fic author will drop the best interpretations of mlm couples and then an mlm fic writer will just like make the background wlw characters sit there and do nothing most of the time.

but that might just be me tbh idk i don’t keep track of every thing i read. i dont really understand why every single fandom has this weird imbedded mysogeny its like i can’t find any content of ships i like without them being either objectified or simplified yk. i also have beef with the fact that there is NOT!! ENOUGH!! well written PLATONIC dynamics ever like that’s the most fun thing to me like i actually need dave and kanaya duo content desperately.

i feel like a lot of authors lack the crucial understanding that everyone is always going through something. when characters aren’t in a certain scene they’re still doing something in the story. like where is the background tea. where is the nasty deets. things dont always happen in a linear clear perfect way like i think while dave is figuring out what touches are in which quadrants we should have rose and kanaya start gaslighting karkat into believing he is made of earth crab. let rose fake her own death with kanaya and have terezi conduct a case while davekat suck face yk. we’re all a little silly

I need to stop assuming good faith of any new fandom I join cause I was in the homestuck trenches with the background rosemary that just so happened to be tagged in a davekat fic, and I was still shocked by the vanilla vivarb. It kinda sucks that I’m only realizing this now despite seeing it in a bunch of different fandoms and being upset about it. I haven’t really analyzed the why behind it aside from being peeved that most of the tagged WLW fics had it in the background instead of being the focus
