I thought I was the only one who noticed this!
I'd say ME3 also really messed up the writing of Gerrel and Xen - some of their actions downright contradict their attitudes in ME2.
For example, since Gerrel was a good friend of Tali's father, he was close with her as well. And you're telling me that the same guy had no issue with blowing up a ship that the daughter of his best friend was on? That's just complete disregard for your friends and acquaintances.
As for Xen, it's really curious how she switched sides from being against the war (not for altruistic reasons, as she wanted to bring the Geth back under Quarian control instead of destroying them, but still) to supporting Gerrel in his endeavor, which she called "idiotic" back in ME2. And strangest of all, Xen used Rael's research results (which she intended to use to develop his Geth hacking techniques further) to produce the weapon that made the war even possible. Pretty suspicious, if you ask me.
I mean, Gerrel and Xen weren't meant to be likeable characters, but ME3 just turned them into cartoon villains.
hi, it's midnight and I have a brand new mass effect hot take that I don't think I've ever seen before, which is surprising.
here it goes. Raan is just as much to blame for the quarians launching their idiotic war with the geth as Gerrel and Xen are. if it wasn't for her commitment to being a spineless centrist placating everyone, she could have very well stopped them, especially in the timeline where Tali is an admiral. with Tali and Koris voting against the war, Raan was the deciding vote! nothing was stopping her from just siding with them. and even when they have no fifth admiral, she could have still pushed for peace! but she decided to be a coward.

Looking at a perfect ME3 Ending
And really, the only reasonably strong races left are the Krogan and Quarians. The Turians and Humanity was eviscerated in the Reaper War, the Batarians are a non-entity, the Asari and Salarains were attacked in a lightning quick campaign and utterly devastated, the Volus, Elcor, and Hanar were practically at the mercy of the Reapers, and the Drell and Vorcha can't do a goddamn thing.
Now, this could be good, with Wrex and Bakara in charge of the Krogan, right? You're still forgetting about the tech savvy Quarians and two specific people, Han'Gerrel and Daro'Xen, both holding more influence than Koris, Raan, and Tali as we saw in ME3. Now, of course, Tali could have more influence over them and her clout could quadruple if you choose to Romance Tali, but she isn't politically smart and won't be able to hold back the Hawks. Koris could be on the same level, but he'll probably be the Ambassador to the Citadel, which leaves Raan, who, while smart in her own right, can't exactly fight against one with a mind like Xen, who'd likely be the Power Behind The Throne in any Quarian government.
Han is a War hawk, plain and simple. You ask him for his course of action and he'll likely want a full on Attack. He isn't really the brightest. However, from what we've seen of Xen, she's manipulative, cunning, eloquent, tact, tech savvy, and willing to do whatever it takes. Simply put, she's an insane psychopath that holds a lot of influence over a whole race.
The Quarians, despite losing the Geth in a destroy ending, are still brilliant engineers and could likely build a VI Synth Army that would be fully under their command. It would be authorized by Gerrel for obvious reasons, but it would also be authorized by Xen, who'd likely control it.
In the Best ME3 ending, we have the potential of a race who was treated horribly for almost 300 years being led by a psychopath becoming one of the most powerful militaries in the Galaxy.
Why does that sound familiar?

I don’t think you want to continue this line of thought, Admiral. Legion is my friend. More importantly, it’s our best source of information on the geth. The “scientific benefits” are off the table.

Reading the Ilusive Man’s dossier in Lair of The Shadow Broker:
I’m amused by “Palavan” but I mostly want to know who he is contacting in the Migrant Fleet. Since it's not just Cerberus or a Cerberus agent, I assume it's someone who knows they're speaking directly to TIM. Any ideas? Could it be Admiral Xen?

Characters I've developed for writing more shit about the admirals because I'm just. Apparently stuck in this hell I've developed for myself:
Prena'Koris vas Qwib-Qwib (deceased) Zaal'Koris's bondmate and Kal'Reegar's mother
Jaehi'Zorah vas Rayya (deceased, obviously) Rael'Zorah's bondmate and Tali's mother
Faene'Gerrel vas Neema Han'Gerrel's bondmate
Diila'Gerrel vas Ikri Han'Gerrel's daughter, first officer of the Ikri
Len'Raan vas Tonbay Shala'Raan's bondmate
Yuuna'Raan vas Nalotir Shala'Raan's daughter, a doctor
Naare'Shoss vas Moreh Daro'Xen's intended; she's an agricultural engineer
I also made the decision that prior to Tali's joining, Daro'Xen was the youngest admiral on the board, as well as the smartest at the time, rivaling Rael'Zorah.
The sheer amount of thought I have put into giving them families and lives outside of what little we get to see of them in the games.
Why did I do this to myself.

Character Bio: Madilla nar Newwa
here’s a bio yeet!
Madilla nar Newwa
Personal Bio
Race: Quarian
Age: 23 during Mass Effect, 25 during Mass Effect 2. 26 during Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect 3 Profile Unknown At This Time.
Height: 5’4
Description: A quarian in bright pink which is unusual for her race but she is very quirky.
Skills: Technological skills, Biotic skills, Language skills.
Mass Effect: During the events of the first Mass Effect, much like Tali’zorah, Madilla is also on her Pilgrimage to not just bring something back to the Migrant Fleet but to also control her own biotic powers.
She encounters Shepard and their crew after sending a distress signal on an uninhabited planet surrounded by Geth. Once rescued she will join the team.
She speaks of her training with asari commandos during the early stages of her Pilgrimage as she didn't want to cause an accident on her birth ship or her new ship if her Pilgrimage was successful. Her Biotics are actually very useful for the Flotilla as she can maintain debris and other problems in a confined space so the workers can safely fix the problem.
She will ask Shepard, when prompted, to find where her commando trainers went as she has not heard from them in a long while, she mentions she sends updates on her progress of her biotic training and hasn’t gotten a new report from the commandos.
It’s worrying her.
Once Shepard arrives at the planet Madilla had managed to find the asari commandos she trained with, it turns out they’re all dead, killed by geth, the quarian is heartbroken that her teachers have passed to the next life. Madilla vows to do better.
She hopes she can bring a ship back to the Flotilla.
Currently pining for one turian on the Normandy.
Mass Effect 2: During her 2 years after the Normandy disappeared, she grieved for the loss of her Commander spending days on the Migrant Fleet crying, while she was given an adult name (vas Moreh) under the Admiral Daro'Xen vas Moreh, she still preferred to be called Newwa as it is where she feels most comfortable.
Madilla, under such short notice, asked to leave the fleet for a short time as she feels her emotional state would cause her biotic powers to go out of control so for the safety of the fleet for a time, she was granted permission for leave of the fleet and to come back once her emotional state is better, granted she collects information viable to help the Flotilla.
She graciously accepted, taking a small ship gifted to her by her parents, she left the Migrant Fleet behind to find a clearer state of mind.
The quarian ended up on Omega, after overhearing how horrid it is over there and the high death count, she wanted to do some good and take out the trash. The death of Shepard hangs over her and she feels like she should have been there to save them.
After Saren, Sovereign and the Geth she realised that words do have power but sometimes force is necessary, her innocent outlook on life was slightly shattered. She saw how the poor people in Omega were treated and wanted to do better for them, so she began treating wounded people in the alleys and killing those who’ve threatened the innocents.
People referred to her as a demon.
Demoness.
Kind and gentle to the innocent but ruthless to the enemy which was strange for a quarian. Madilla’s biotic’s had grown and continue to grow, she might require more training even she admits it.
On Omega she was recruited by someone named ‘Archangel’ and his merc group, she was not there when Archangel was betrayed as she was separated from him, she is unaware he is Garrus, the one whom she pines for, until much later.
While Shepard is on a recruitment mission for a team to survive the Omega 4 relay and beyond, they are instructed to pick up Archangel and investigate rumors of a missing member of his team named ‘Demoness’.
Shepard is unaware that it is their other quarian team member from back then.
Shepard and Miranda, a Cerberus Operative, discover what Madilla has been doing on Omega and realise that yes her biotics are growing stronger and stronger by the day, Madilla cries upon seeing her long lost Commander again, giving the Commander a hug.
Madilla vas Moreh/nar Newwa Dossier:
Quarian Biotic.
Skills: Throw, Pull. Loyalty Skill: Singularity.
Powerful quarian biotic, could be useful in slowing down Collector weapons on the ground.
Madilla’s Loyalty Mission: Lost Heart
Madilla hesitates to ask Shepard for help but she desperately needs it. She learned from Miranda that she, like many many biotics besides Krogan and Asari who are naturally born biotics, has a chip in her head to help control her powers.
She is so upset but she asks Shepard to help her find the people who put the chip in her brain, the group lands at a tiny Cerberus facility, Madilla is very concerned, confused and frightened. She’s upset as she feels she’s not special anymore, Shepard and their companions calm her down as her powers might go slightly out of tune if she’s upset.
After gunning down some Eclipse mercs, the facility is very run down, finding an old file archive Madilla and the group learn that the quarian was exposed to element zero while her Mother was carrying her and with no one to turn to, was trapped by Cerberus and was forced to give her daughter a chip.
Which is strange because Cerberus only works for humanity's sake.
It was then when they learned that this was for a study experiment on quarians who go on their Pilgrimage, Tali’zorah mentioned some Quarians never return from their Pilgrimage.
Madilla is so upset and mad she almost destroyed the facility with her biotics when Shepard, through paragon options, will tell her that she's still very special regardless of her circumstances.
She's valuable to their crew and their fleet, valuable to everyone she meets and Madilla just really needs a hug which Shep gives.
Madilla does end up finding the one who put in her chip and, while she has the chance to get rid of them, decides not to. She was taught and raised to forgive but it will take her a long time to forgive
Madilla learns to grow much more from her experience and is slightly humbled when finding out her origins.
Report from the Illusive Man:
Facility left untouched. Must send operatives to wipe data from the archives, Madilla’s loyalty is to Shepard and will now be able to focus on the mission.
Must make sure she keeps missing quarians secret lest we have the ire of the Migrant fleet and they won't help with the Reapers.
During several moments during the events of Mass Effect 2, Shepard can help gently ‘push’ Madilla to pursue a relationship with one of the Normandy’s crew, as the quarian’s feelings for a certain someone on the ship is very obvious to everyone else except to the both of them.
Status by the Final Mission of Mass Effect 2
To Shepard: Loyal after completing her loyalty mission.
Relationship Status: Taken.
Class: Quarian Biotic.
Weapon Loadout: Pistol, Sniper Rifle.

mass effect for the fandom meme
The first character I first fell in love with: Jack! Should've been a Romance option for Ms. SHEPARD
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Miranda Lawson....she really grew on me in ME3 with her development.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I didn't take EDI around much because I couldn't stand her ridiculous design. I do like her personality.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Admiral Daro'xen Vas Moreh.... aka Quarian Morrigan. I would've given her the research 😳
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: ...I do like Legion but he makes some strange comments in Illium space port.
The character I would totally smooch: Aria T'loak and like every Turian Lady.
The character I’d want to be like: Morinth but with more ethics and on good terms with my mom. Or N7 Fury Adept lady from multiplayer. I just wanna be a spooky hovert blue energy space witch.
The character I’d slap: The Illusive Man, I never cared about him as a villain. I miss my mates Saren and Harbringer.
A pairing that I love: Vetra/Sis!Ryder Edi/Traynor and FemShep/Tali also like any Aria T'loak femslash I can get. (There's only 1 fic of her and Traynor)
A pairing that I despise: literally any and all of the het versions of romances especially with a Male PC. I can submit my individual reasoning of revulsion per pair later in apa format if ordered. I also only acknowledge M!Shakarian here.
