Hello my old friend
Oh Capitaine, mon Capitaine...
Carpe Diem ! Carpe Diem !
Auteur : Tom Schulman
Artistes : Stéphane Freiss, Ethan Oliel, Hélie Thonnat, Audran Cattin, Maxence Seva, Pierre Delage, Maxime Huriguen, Yvan Garouel, Olivier Bouana

Rethinking Education in the Age of AI: Unlocking Human Potential as Stewards of the Future
The transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on education is no longer a distant concept—it is here, reshaping the way we teach, learn, and live. During my presentation at The Second Arab International Conference on AI in Education, I reflected on the incredible opportunities and profound responsibilities AI presents for educators. This blog post captures the essence of that conversation—a conversation about change, adaptation, and, most importantly, purpose.
Setting the Scene: The Anthropocene and the Skills Revolution
We are living in the Anthropocene, an era where human influence shapes not only the planet but also the future of society. With this influence comes responsibility—a responsibility that extends into education. The Our Future World report by CSIRO (2022) reminds us that, “The Anthropocene underscores humanity’s responsibility in shaping Earth’s future.” With AI at the forefront of change, we must recognize that our task as educators is not just to respond to technological advances but to actively shape their trajectory.
AI is not merely an automation tool; it represents a fundamental shift in the skills needed to thrive. We are no longer on the brink of a skills revolution—we are living it. The challenge before us is clear: are we ready to equip our students for this world?
The Australian Context: Lessons from Home
In Australia, the need for change is evident. The National Skills Commission’s report, The State of Australia’s Skills 2021: Now and Into the Future, serves as a wake-up call. It makes clear that technological disruption isn’t on the horizon—it’s already here. To meet this challenge, we must blend technical competencies with what I call "human skills"—qualities like creativity, adaptability, and digital literacy.
AI plays a pivotal role in this transformation, not only by reshaping how we think about assessments and curriculum but by challenging the very foundation of education. We can no longer afford to wait. The time to act is now.
Global Megatrends: Are We Prepared?
On a global scale, the Our Future World report by CSIRO outlines key megatrends that are driving change. Autonomous systems, increasing digital adoption, and shifting societal expectations are already redefining the way we learn and work. These trends highlight that AI is not a distant force—it is here, shaping our world. As educators, we need to ask: are we preparing students to thrive in this landscape, or are we clinging to outdated paradigms?
The Role of Higher Education: Preparing for the AI-Driven World
Higher education must play a leading role in this transformation. The Boston Consulting Group refers to the future as requiring "bionic skills"—a seamless blend of human creativity and AI-driven capabilities. These aren’t just technical abilities; they involve resilience, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking.
Our responsibility in higher education is to foster these competencies, ensuring our graduates are not only proficient in technology but also ethically grounded and emotionally intelligent. This is where universities must step up—by creating learning environments that inspire innovation, adaptability, and human connection.
Amplifying AI Skills: Key Insights from the 2025 Skills Horizon Report
The 2025 Skills Horizon report by the University of Sydney introduces the concept of "Amplifiers"—essential AI skills that will act as catalysts for innovation and growth. These include AI fluency, data literacy, and ethical AI design. These Amplifiers are not just technical proficiencies but the foundation of collaboration between humans and AI systems.
Higher education must take responsibility for amplifying these skills. This means integrating them into courses and fostering a culture of continuous learning. By doing so, we prepare students not just to navigate the future but to lead it.
Building AI-Resilient Educational Systems
At LCI Melbourne, we have already begun integrating AI into our curriculum with a focus on responsible use. Our AI Action Plan emphasises three core principles from our regulator: integrity, transparency, and future-readiness.
A key component of this work involves rethinking assessments. The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Australia’s higher education regulator, offers clear guidance on maintaining academic integrity in an AI-driven world. Assessments must reflect real-world skills and ensure that AI enhances the learning experience—not compromises it.
A Call to Action: AI as a Catalyst for Innovation in Education
AI must be viewed as more than a tool—it should serve as a catalyst for educational innovation. The Future of Jobs Report 2023 by the World Economic Forum underscores the need to embrace AI technologies to unlock new opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
The challenge is to rethink how we teach, learn, and assess in this new era. If we embrace AI with intention, we can foster a human-centered approach to education that amplifies our students' potential and prepares them to thrive in the future.
Embracing AI with Hope and Purpose
As we navigate the possibilities of AI in education, I find resonance in the work of Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic—an AI safety and research company based in San Francisco. Amodei’s October 2024 essay Machines of Loving Grace offers a powerful vision of AI not as a threat, but as a complement to human creativity, empathy, and purpose.
Amodei reminds us: “Fear is one kind of motivator, but it’s not enough: we need hope as well.” This statement encapsulates our responsibility as educators—not just to react to challenges, but to actively shape AI’s trajectory toward human dignity and societal progress.
The next decade offers us more than just solutions—it offers the potential for a profound awakening. Amodei speaks of a ‘compressed century’ of achievement and equity. Our task is not simply to mitigate risks but to ensure that AI serves as a force for meaning, connection, and purpose.
If we embrace this opportunity with intention, we will empower learners not just to survive in an AI-powered world but to thrive as responsible stewards of humanity’s future.
Conclusion: Shaping the Future of Education
So, here’s where I want to challenge all of us: AI should not just be a tool we use—it must become a catalyst for innovation in education. This fierce urgency of now compels us to rethink how we teach, learn, and assess in this new era.
We need to embrace a new story, a new hope—one that reimagines education as deeply human-centred, technology-enriched, and aligned with the needs of our learners, communities, and the planet. AI can unlock the true potential of our students, but only if we have the courage to innovate, take risks, and lead the change.
The future of education is ours to shape—and the time to act is now.

Judul Film: Dead Poets Society
Sutradara: Peter Weir
Penulis: Tom Schulman
Durasi: 2 jam 8 menit
Tahun Rilis: 1989
Pemeran Utama: Robin Williams (John Keating), Robert Sean Leonard (Neil Perry), Ethan Hawke (Todd Anderson)
Sinopsis Singkat:
Review:
Akhirnya, setelah lama masuk wishlist, aku nonton Dead Poets Society. Alhamdulillah, nontonnya berkesan banget.
Robin Williams, duh, aku kagum banget sama dia.
Satu hal lagi, bundir bukan solusi. Nggak bakal ngilangin masalah.
Mr. Keating sendiri akhirnya sadar akan konsekuensi dari cara ngajarnya yang out of the box.
Scene terakhir, buatku, cukup simbolis.

"Evaluating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Effectiveness: Revealing Impact through Metrics and Case Studies."
Given the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in shaping modern workplaces, it is crucial to question whether DEI can drive transformative change.
This blog explores the methodologies and metrics for assessing DEI program effectiveness, including a detailed case study of PayPal’s innovative approach to economic equity. We will gain insight into DEI efforts across various organizations, providing a comprehensive understanding of how these strategies can yield valuable results.
Understanding the Impact of DEI: A Statistical Overview
DEI’s significance transcends compliance or ethical obligation; it’s a strategic imperative that drives organizational resilience, innovation, and growth. However, measuring the effectiveness of DEI programs poses a complex challenge, requiring a blend of qualitative and quantitative metrics to capture the full spectrum of its impact.
PayPal’s Pioneering Effort in Addressing Economic Equity
PayPal’s DEI strategy, championed by CEO Dan Schulman, integrates deeply into its corporate ethos, aiming to foster an inclusive culture. PayPal is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by ensuring that everyone feels valued regardless of their demographic background. This is evident in the measures taken by PayPal, such as partnering with Veteran Jobs Mission and AfroTech, achieving 100% pay equity for women and ethnic minorities in the U.S., and supporting various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These efforts are central to PayPal’s business operations and the well-being of its employees, underscoring the company’s dedication to creating a community where diversity, equity, and inclusion are woven into the fabric of its corporate identity.
Reflecting on PayPal’s endeavors, it’s clear that their success aligns with current DEI research trends, underscoring the importance of equitable practices for organizational growth. This approach is detailed in The State of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Among Leading Organizations in North America, which dives deep into the current DEI landscape and effective strategies.
DEI Strategies from Other Organizations
Walmart’s Program for Social Mobility focuses on creating equitable opportunities for its workforce by fostering a culture of empowerment and inclusion that reflects the diversity of the communities Walmart serves. Key strategies include: developing inclusive leadership, promoting diversity in hiring and promotions, and enhancing supplier diversity. This approach has led to improved retention rates and promotion opportunities, particularly for underrepresented groups.
Schneider Electric’s Global-Local Pay Equity Framework adds value by ensuring fair compensation across its global workforce, addressing pay disparities, and promoting gender balance. "By prioritizing pay equity, Schneider Electric fosters an equitable workplace that enhances the company's reputation as a preferred employer, attracting and retaining top talent. This commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion strengthens the company's contribution to a motivated and productive workforce."
Shiseido’s Focus on Gender Parity underscores the impact of committed leadership and performance-linked DEI metrics, resulting in a notable increase in women leaders within the company.
Netflix and Amazon demonstrate the effectiveness of fostering inclusive cultures and supporting Employee Resource Groups, emphasizing diversity as a critical component for business success.
Key Takeaways for DEI Program Evaluation
Evaluating the effectiveness of DEI programs requires a strategic approach, which should entail the following:
Define Clear Objectives: Establish what DEI success looks like with measurable targets.
Monitor and Adapt Regularly: Use metrics and feedback to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and adapt strategies accordingly.
Commit Leadership: Ensure leaders are held accountable, actively champion, and receive resources for DEI efforts.
Cultivate an Inclusive Culture: Create an environment where diversity is valued and all employees feel included and can fully contribute.
Research Best Practices: Check out resources, including literature like the new book Inclusionomics, that provide insights on enhancing organizational culture and financial performance through diversity and inclusion practices.
The journey to achieve meaningful DEI impacts is complex and multifaceted. PayPal's success story provides a blueprint for integrating DEI into the core operational and strategic framework of businesses, alongside insights from other leading organizations. These examples highlight the critical importance of setting clear goals, engaging leadership, and fostering an inclusive culture—underscoring DEI’s role as a key driver of organizational success.
We invite you to share your experiences and insights on DEI measures within your organization. How do you measure their effectiveness, and what impact have they had on your culture and operations? Leave a comment below, send us an email, or follow us on LinkedIn.

Schulman bir defasında The New York Times’a şunları söyledi:“DNA’mda toplumsal aktivizmle doğdum. Büyükbabam New York City’deki hazır giysi bölgesinde bir sendika organizatörüydü. Orada geçirdiği iki yıl boyunca, Priceline’ın yıllık geliri bildirilen 20 milyon dolardan yaklaşık 1 milyar dolara çıktı.Şirketteki vazife mühleti, şirketin “gizli fiyatı olmayan” taşıyıcı olarak büyümesiyle not edildi.
PayPal, 2021’in birinci çeyreğinde şimdiye kadarki en güçlü finansal sonuçlarını elde etti. Schulman, PayPal’ın başarılı çeyreğinin üzerine bir PayPal “dijital cüzdanı” eklemeyi planladığını duyurdu.Şubat 2023’te Dan Schulman’ın 31 Aralık 2023’e kadar PayPal CEO’luğundan istifa edeceği açıklandı. İdare konseyinde misyon yapmaya devam edeceği bildirildi.

At the end of May, PayPal (PYPL) stock price surged and entered an uptrend, rising from the support level of $59.30. The stock price advanced to 29.10% roughly from the support level, to form a high of $76.54. However, the bullish move was halted when the price reached near $77 and faced strong rejection. The second-quarter earnings report acted as fuel for the bearish momentum. However, PayPal did beat the consensus estimates of earnings per share and revenue, but investors remained disappointed about PayPal’s direction after an uninspiring Q2 report. PYPL stock price melted to form a support at $57.30, falling below the support level from where the bullish rally started. The stock price has again retraced to $57.30 after retesting $64.80. The last candle did break the support level of $57.30 but was unsuccessful in closing below it. If the bears push the price below $57.30, it might melt toward the next support level of $55. On the other hand, if the stock price jumps above the $60 resistance level, it might retest the recent resistance level of $64.80. Direction Of PayPal Stock Total payment volume increased 11% in the 2023 second quarter, and revenue jumped by 7%. For the full year, the management is guiding for a revenue rise of 8% and earnings per share of roughly $0.86, with adjusted EPS to climb by 13% to $1.23. Management has stated that the company is highly focused on generating more value from active clients and letting go of less active accounts. This strategy is bearing fruit, and transactions per active client increased 12% in the second quarter over last year. Alex Chriss has been appointed as President and CEO of PayPal after the departure of CEO Dan Schulman on September 27. Schulman is planning to stay on the board until May 2024. Will PYPL Stock Price Fall To $55? The stock price has plunged below all the major exponential moving averages, indicating bearish momentum. The Chaikin money flow score has also plunged below the 0 mark and stands at -0.11, suggesting weakness and capital outflow from the market. The relative strength index has dropped to 33.96, nearing the oversold zone, indicating strong bearish momentum. If RSI enters into an oversold zone, there is a probability of a short-term pullback. Conclusion PayPal’s solid growth between 2014 and 2022 boosted operating income from $1.3 Billion to $4 Billion. Even if PayPal rises slowly from here on, the stock is a bargain. The PayPal stock is trading at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 10, and PayPal’s stock has arguably never been cheaper. Technical levels Support Levels: $52.80 and $55 Resistance Levels: $64.80 and $76.30 Source

Bitcoin, Ethereum Technical Analysis: BTC Nears 1-Week High, as Paypal Launches USD Stablecoin
Bitcoin Bitcoin (BTC) was back in the green on Tuesday, as the cryptocurrency made marginal gains during today’s session. The move came as Paypal announced its USD stablecoin, which will be hosted on the ethereum blockchain. Following the news, CEO Dan Schulman said: “Our commitment to responsible innovation and compliance, and our track record delivering new experiences to our customers, provides the foundation necessary to contribute to the growth of digital payments through Paypal USD.” BTC/USD rose to a peak of $29,402.65 on the news, following a low of $28,724.14 the day prior. Today’s peak sees bitcoin trade at its highest point since last Wednesday, when it was last above $30,000. Tuesday’s rally has also brought the 10-day (red) moving average to the cusp of an upwards crossover with its 25-day (blue) counterpart. Ethereum Ethereum (ETH) rose marginally after the Paypal news, with price moving away from a recent support point. Following a low of $1,804.72 to start the week, ETH/USD jumped to an intraday high of $1,836.06 on Tuesday. Despite the slight rise in price, ethereum continues to trade below a recent resistance level of $1,850. A positive for bulls, however, comes as the 14-day relative strength index (RSI) broke out of its ceiling at the 43.00 mark. Currently, the index is tracking at a reading of 43.88, with the next resistance zone near the 50.00 point. In the event this target is reached, ETH will likely be back above $1,900.
