Cinderella III: A Twist in Time (2007)

Between 1994 and 2008, Walt Disney Pictures was making sequels to just about any of their movies. Mostly, you got stuff like Mulan II and The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. At best, they MIGHT appeal to young children who were die-hard fans of the originals. Before you dismiss all of them, however, take a look at Cinderella III: A Twist in Time. It may be the best of the direct-to-video sequels that came out of that era of Disney animated films.

After their wedding, Cinderella (voiced by Jennifer Hale) and Prince Philipp (voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes) are celebrating with The Fairy Godmother (voiced by Russi Taylor) when Anastasia Tremaine (Tress MacNeille) spots them. Realizing what the fairy must've done on the night at the ball, Lady Tremaine (Susan Blakeslee) steals the magic wand, uses it to turn The Fairy Godmother to stone and then alters the the past. Now, when the Grand Duke (Rob Paulsen) tried to put the glass slipper on Anastasia, it fit and Cinderella’s happily ever after is about to vanish.

I know you’re raising an eyebrow at the concept of a straight-to-DVD second sequel to a movie made 50+ years prior but hear me out. Firstly, this is a “true sequel” rather than a re-tread of the first. Lady Tremaine was so wicked and cruel when we met her. Don’t you think her hatred for Cinderella would keep going? She’s always wanted her daughters to be above Cinderella and now, she’s found a way to do it. Right away, you’ve got high stakes. Once Anastasia and the Prince marry, it’s over. Cinderella will never have an opportunity to live happily ever after and who knows what the kingdom will turn into with Lady Tremaine in the castle. Saving the day will be an uphill climb, as Cinderella will have to do everything on her own -no fairy will come to her rescue this time. At best, she can call upon her bird and mouse friends (Gus - voiced by Corey Burton - and Jaq - by Rob Paulsen - return). If those odds weren't steep enough, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella (Russi Taylor) all remember what happened before the timeline was altered. No one else does, including the Prince, whom they promptly mind-control using magic.

It may come as a disappointment that A Twist in Time doesn’t really acknowledge Cinderella II: Dreams Come True but it’s almost as if the people who worked on this film looked at the previous one and said, “You know what, I think we’re onto something here… can we try it again and give it our all this time?” Like its predecessor, Cinderella III spends a lot of time on Anastasia. She gets plenty of character growth as she begins questioning what her future will be like. She's about to marry a man who does not love her, all because her bully of a mother wants more power and (more importantly) to get revenge against someone who’s never done anything wrong to them. This anxiety leads to some tender moments between the King (Andre Stojka) as he confides with his future stepdaughter.

Overall, the quality of the animation, voice acting, humour, romance, drama and characters are consistent enough with the original (without ever matching it) that undiscerning viewers will be fooled into thinking the movies were made within a short period. The one area where there is a significant drop in quality are the songs. None of them are bad but neither are they any special or memorable. Another element to improve would be the film’s opening. Cinderella III= only lasts 70 minutes so the plot wastes no time getting started and it really could’ve used a bit more room to breathe. I won’t hold these flaws against it too harshly. In a perfect world, this film directed by Frank Nissen would’ve gotten a bigger budget and a theatrical release but no way was that going to happen. Ever. Who would buy tickets for a time-travel/alternate-universe version of a beloved classic made half a century later, particularly considering the reputation of Disney sequels? The fact is everyone working on this movie cared. They cared A LOT. They made the best movie they could with the resources available and they should be applauded for it.

Cinderella III: A Twist in Time is a good film. It’s an engaging sequel that brings the elements and characters you love back, tells an original story, and surmounts the obstacles placed in front of it spectacularly. It maintains the spirit of the original, down to the most “action-packed” scene of the film: a thrilling chase that’s a mirror-world opposite of Cinderella’s ride inside the pumpkin carriage on the night of the ball. I hope this movie finds the audience it deserves. Anyone who catches it should stay for the end credits to see a bonus scene halfway, along with several amusing gags and an epilogue as well. Movie Chronicles

Halloween Town was released October 17th, 1998. The film originally debuted on disney channel and it was directed by Duwayne Dunham and written by Paul Bernbaum. The original cast of the movie included Debbie Reynolds, Judith Hoag, Kimberly J. Brown,  Joey Zimmerman, and Emily Roesk. On the website IMDb, it states that the movie received a  6.6 out of 10 rating but I personally think it deserved a 10 out of 10. I wasn’t born when the movie first came out, however, when I came into this world in 2002, this is the first Holiday movie that stuck with me. It was the first time I ever got into the Holiday spirit. 

Talladega Nights was the first movie that introduced me to comedy. I watched this movie for the first time when I was 10 years old. Talladega Nights was released in 2006 and was directed by Adam Mckay. The movie was written by director, Adam Mckay, and star actor, Will Farrell. IMdb states that the movie had a worldwide gross of $163 million. This movie is significant to me because I remember watching it on every road trip to New Jersey with my family. The movie made my whole family laugh no matter how many times we watched it together and I loved how light hearted the room always felt when the film was on.             

Hannah Montana the movie was released in 2009, but I didn't actually watch it until I was 14 years old. The director of the film was Peter Chelsom,  the writers of the film included Dan Berendsen, Michael Poryes, Richard Corell, and the main star of the movie was Miley Cyrus. I truly believe that watching this movie is what made me realize that I love singing. I always knew that I enjoyed singing but I realized just how passionate I was about it. My mom told me that after watching the movie for the first time, I would hold a microphone and sing Miley Cyrus songs in the mirror. I also have vivid memories of blasting the song “See You Again” and pretending I was a superstar. 

Big Daddy is an older movie but I didn’t watch it until I was a senior in highschool.​​ This movie really stuck with me because of the emotions that I felt while watching it. I loved that the movie was funny, sad, happy, and warm all at once. Adam Sandler was phenomenal in this film and I liked seeing more emotion from him compared to some of his other movies. When I watched this movie it made me really appreciate my parents and the love that they have for me.    ​​

I asked my Mom to write a list of movies that I loved as I was growing up as well as memories that went with them, and the movies that she chose were: The Santa Clause, Change of Habit , and The Hannah Montana movie. She said that The Santa Clause movie always put me in the Christmas spirit when the family would watch it together. When she thinks of this movie she thinks of when I used to put on a giant santa coat and dance around the kitchen listening to Christmas music. The movie called Change of Habit was my Mom’s favorite movie when she was a kid due to her love for Elvis. She chose this movie because her and I watched it together when I was little and I ended up adoring the film. She said that this movie reminds her of when I would pretend to talk like Elvis and her and I would sing Elvis songs at the top of our lungs, and that it made her realize just how similar we were. My mom chose the Hannah Monatna movie for the same reason that I did. After watching that movie, she said my love for singing took off. She still has videos of me performing Hannah Montana songs in front of the mirror.

Asal Mula Kopi Lelet

Sejarah Kopi Lelet

Ternyata, meski menjadi kopi otentik dari Rembang, hanya segelintir orang yang mengetahui sejarah panjang secangkir kopi lelet. Merasa tertarik untuk mengulik cerita sejarahnya, Tagar menyambangi kediaman Ernantoro, sejarawan yang sangat hafal seluk beluk sejarah di Lasem.

Rumah Toro, sapaan akrabnya, berada di kawasan Desa Gedongmulyo. Sebelumnya, kami telah janjian lewat pesat WhatsApp untuk mengulas sejarah kopi lelet. Senyum ramah menyambut dan Tagar dipersilahkan Toro masuk ke ruang tamu.

Tak disangka, Toro telah menyiapkan denah perkembangan kopi lelet yang digambarkan pada sebuah papan tulis. Tak ketinggalan suguhan segelas kopi menjadi penghangat cerita pada Jumat, 20 Maret 2020, selepas Jumatan.

Maka dimulailah asal usul kemunculan kopi lelet di kisaran tahun 1930. Awalnya kopi lelet bernama kopi sedulit. Kala itu, Desa Gedongmulyo dikenal sebagai desa pusat penjualan kopi sedulit pertama di Lasem.

Kopi tersebut banyak disuguhkan di deretan warung di kawasan perbatasan dengan Desa Dasun. Diketahui, Gedongmulyo dan Dasun dipisahkan oleh Sungai Babagan, sungai yang membelah wilayah Lasem sejak tahun 1700.

Dengan cara mengoleskan ampas kopi yang airnya telah mereka minum menggunakan jari telunjuk atau biasa disebut didulit.

Warung makan yang juga menyuguhkan kopi sedulit itu biasa melayani pekerja kapal di galangan yang ada di Desa Dasun. Usai kerja atau pas jam istirahat siang, para pekerja biasa menyeberangi Sungai Babagan untuk menikmati segelas kopi sedulit.

“Dulu berjejer banyak warung-warung yang jualan kopi dan pembelinya para tukang yang kerja di galangan kapal. Mereka melewati jembatan kecil yang menghubungkan dua desa tersebut untuk menuju ke warung,��� tutur dia.

Berhenti sejenak Toro mempersilahkan Tagar menikmati suguhan kopi. Mumpung masih hangat, katanya. Sambil menunjuk denah sejarah kopi lelet, pria itu kembali melanjutkan ceritanya. Ia menyebut nama seorang Belanda, Berendsen, sebagai pemilik galangan kapal di Dasun.

Setidaknya ada enam galangan yang dimiliki Berendsen kala itu. Sampai di sini, Toro kemudian memperlihatkan foto zaman dulu yang memperlihatkan gambar enam galangan kapal yang ia maksud. “Banyak warga pribumi Lasem yang bermata pencarian dengan bekerja di galangan kapal itu,” sebut dia.

Dan dari sejumlah warung makan langganan para pekerja kapal, warung Mbah Toyib kerap dijadikan tempat nongkrong sebelum mereka pulang ke rumah masing-masing. Dari tempat itu lah muncul kebiasaan unik untuk menambah awet rokok yang mereka isap.

“Dengan cara mengoleskan ampas kopi yang airnya telah mereka minum menggunakan jari telunjuk atau biasa disebut didulit,” ujar dia.

Lambat laun kebiasaan tersebut menular dari pekerja satu ke pekerja lain hingga kawasan warung tersebut dikenal dengan sebutan warung kopi sedulit.

You know, whoever wrote this was surprisingly bad at wordplay for someone clearly extremely proud of their wordplay.

I mean, it's fine. Your basic portal fantasy/chosen one narrative, with some decently likeable characters and terrible, terrible names. It's not exactly great art, but it's inoffensive and fairly entertaining.

High School Musical 4 cast news update – Zac and Vanessa fate confirmed

High School Musical 4 is long overdue for a sequel and it looks like fans will be getting it soon. Disney announced the fourth movie in the series back in 2016, but there was no update after that. Disney refuses to reveal any details about the upcoming film.

High School Musical 4: Cast and crew revealed

A news publication in the US has revealed that the story will focus on a new group of students studying in East High School, and their rivals at the West High Knights High School. The movie will be written by Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini who were also the writers of the previous High School Musical films. However, Jeffrey Hornaday will be the one who will direct and choreograph the 4th installment.

The songs of the movie will be written by the same team that wrote them for the first three movies. Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden will also return as executive producers. Disney has also announced the cast of the film. It includes Joshua Bassett, Olivia Rodrigo, Kate Reinders, Sofia Wylie, Matt Cornett, Dara Reneé, Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez, Larry Saperstein, and Mark St. Cyr.

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and other cast members of the original 3 films will not be returning to the 4th installment. Filming will start in fall 2020.
