I love how everyone else is made interesting places relevant to their particular backstories and Travis was just like "So over here is the Problem Portal, it can get you where you want to go or possibly drop you in the sea, I hope no one uses this for any shenanigans. ;)"

there are a lot of good critiques of Daggerheart I'm seeing (and I say "good" not just in the sense that they are valid critiques, but also "good" in that that is the point of beta testing), but boy do a lot of the critiques boil down to "this is less like DnD than I'd like it to be" and that's both boring af and missing the fucking point

So despite having no one to play it with i have been reading the daggerheart open beta materials and took a crack at making a character to see how it feels. And let me say I typically prefer way more crunchier systems like 5e and Pathfinder and Star wars (All more or less the same system which shows how boring i am), so I thought i would find it quick and boring with no real investment. And it was quick, but in a really good way??? I quickly figured out what I wanted and with the tools available to me already feel like I'm making great strides, as compared with dnd5e where it feels like you have to wait till 3rd level to get juicy. This system is just fun out of the gate. I made a Wildborne Simiah named Sage, and he is of course based around Sun Wukong the Monkey King. I wanted him to be hard to hit and hit heard, so I went with Ranger with the Wayfinder subclass, and at level 1 his Evasiveness was 14, and when I bumped him up a level to see what that was like I got it up to sixteen. And instead of giving him a shortbow like suggested I gave him a quarterstaff for the ~~vibe~~ and don't regret it. With my high agility score and I can quickly close distance, hit losers with a 2d10+ instinct weapon, throw on a additional 1d6 with rangers focus from my class feat, and uh oh I still somehow not do enough damage? I spend stress and yesss I did. Apex Predator allows me to never hit below their minor damage threshold. Oh and guess what? With the ferocity feat and one point of hope my Evasion is temporarily increased by how much hitpoints I knocked off an opponent. Meaning I just became that little kid in play fights going 'nuh uh you cant hit me I have super power shield blah blah blah' and then proceed to whack you with my stick. I am level 2 and feel so much closer to the Sun Wukong fantasy with a ranger than I ever did with a 5e monk. Thank you Mathew and the Daggerheart team. I have created a terror that exists only in my mind and thats whats gonna get me through work for the coming weeks. I like to think of him as only 3 feet too. If that helps.

Anyways this is Kaine, a goblin ranger because rangers are my favourite class (idc that they're boring leave me alone) and I wish I could play them one day but alas I'm the forever DM/GM so probably won't happen 😂 still fun to play around with the character creation tools tho

So, I noticed... No Eisfuura in Daggerheart...? I thought they'd be a thing, since they've been referenced in Campaign three (and so have the Galapas and I think Katari)? Or is that just for the (still) beta?

a surprisingly effective unkillable damage-dealer in Daggerheart: turtle ranger

more specifically, ridgeborne galapa wayfinder ranger, with a breastplate and round shield, gets lots of ways through the above and the Bone domain to increase evasion and armor, to punish enemies for hitting them, to add their proficiency in extra ways, as well as ways to renew HP and Stress through the Sage domain
