“Your Grace summons you to the Painted Table.” The servant had said after I had gotten back to my room from my morning training. Daenerys had gotten busier in the last few weeks as she planned ahead for the upcoming war.
I found her standing by the fireplace with her back turned towards me and the table that was in the shape of the Seven Kingdoms. A few figurines of different houses of Westeros were laid out in their appropriate places.
“You called?”
She takes a moment to turn, collecting her thoughts.
“In a few days Olenna Tyrell, Ellaria Sand, and Yara Greyjoy will be here to pledge their allegiance to me and further discuss our plans to take the Iron Throne.” She rounded the table, walking closer to me. “But before they arrive is there anything I must know?”
I furrowed my brows, thinking back or ahead in the future? Nonetheless, I wracked my brain for anything that would be useful.
“Oh,” I remembered. “An ambush. There’s going to be an ambush.”
A flash of concern comes across her face. “Who?”
“Euron Greyjoy. After your meeting you ordered Yara to escort Ellaria and their troops to Sunspear. But along the way Euron ambushes them.” The whole ordeal was hard to read. Daenerys’ campaign was going so well until that point.
“It was catastrophic. So many died and so many ships destroyed they were still finding wreckage when I was born.” I turned towards the map, thinking back to where we were told the ambush had taken place.
“Here. 50 miles north of Sharp Point in Blackwater Bay.” I pointed out. “That’s where they were ambushed.”
“The damage?”
“Significant. Euron, Yara’s uncle, takes her and Ellaria Sand and her daughter as hostages for Cersie and imprisons them in King's Landing. And, his ships are equipped with Scorpions.”
She takes in a deep breath, trying to keep her composure. Her eyes look down at where I’ve pointed just a moment ago, weighing her options and thinking of a new plan.
“So what do we do?”
I smile. “I have a plan.”
Rain had been pouring down for the past three days and it showed no signs of letting up all while the entire castle prepared for the arrival of Houses Greyjoy, Martel, and Tyrell. I sighed, walking away from the floor to ceiling windows of the library and back to the roundtable full of books. With the rain getting heavier Grey Worm had decided to postpone my lessons which left me in the library of the castle, hunched over a mountain of books.
“Not very fond of the rain?” Missandei asks from the table, peering over a book. “I am. Just not very fond of the dreariness of it.” I reply, sitting down across from her. “It’s interesting how something as simple as the weather can change a person's entire mood.”
She nodded, setting the book aside. “In Essos it barely rained. Whenever it did, the sky would be clear and the temperature hot. Here, the rain is so…”
“Heavy.” I finished off. “Whenever the weather gets like this all I want to do is sleep.”
“It does, doesn’t it?” Missandei beams. “I just want to curl up under the hearth with a cup of tea and a good book.”
I laughed, “after all the reading I’ve done, it’s the last thing I’d want to do when I’m relaxing.”
We both shared a laugh before falling into a pregnant pause. I could tell that she was still apprehensive about me. When she came to me this morning, asking to join me in the library, I was shocked. Out of council meetings and occasionally bumping into each other we had barely talked.
“You don’t trust me,” I said.
She watched my expression as she replied. “Can you blame me?”
I shook my head. “No, I’m glad that you are, though. I’d be more concerned if you’d blindly trust me. Especially with my.. sudden appearance.”
Out of everyone in Daenerys’ council I knew from the start that Missandei would be the hardest to build a relationship with. She’d been with Dany for years. She’d seen her at her lowest and highest. Which is why she would be one of my most important allies, other than Daenerys.
“You also don’t trust us,” Missandei says.
“Wrong,” I correct. “I trust Daenerys. You. Grey Worm, and Tyrion.”
“Not Lord Varys?” She asks.
“No. Varys is… different, in a lot of ways.” I needed to tread carefully. I couldn’t just outwardly say that he would betray Daenerys and be the reason why Misssandei would die. But, I could sew in the seeds of doubt.
“He’s.. somewhat unpredictable.” I pursed my lips. “His origin and journey is admirable, don’t get me wrong. It’s just his methods and means and history that are a bit questionable.”
Everyone knows that Varys has his “little birds” but they don’t know the truth behind them. Missandei didn’t say much after that, letting my words sit in her mind for the rest of the day. I knew what I had said had left her stumped and that she would tell Daenerys of our conversation. I just hoped that the seed had been planted deep enough.
The storm had raged on into the night. I was getting ready to turn into the night when a servant informed me of a small council meeting at the Painted Table. Quickly, I made my way over, seeing that everyone else was already there.
“I hope I’m not late.” I say to no one in particular. Missandei and Grey Worm give me a few nods while Tyrion and Varys watch Daenerys who had her back towards us, deep in thought.
“On a night like this, you were born,” Tyrion remarks.
“I remember that storm. All the dogs in King’s Landing howled through the night.” Varys adds.
“I wish I could remember it.” Daenerys says, finally turning around. Her face was somewhat stoic as she walked over to the table. “I always thought this would be a homecoming, this doesn't feel like home.”
She’s upset, I noted. Did Missandei and I’s conversation work?
“We won’t stay at Dragonstone for long.” Tyrion reassures.
“Good.” She says, looking at the figurine on the table. “Not many lions.”
“Cersie controls fewer than half of the Seven Kingdoms. The lords of Westeros despise her. Even before your arrival, they plotted against her. Now…” Varys says. I don’t know why but the tone of his voice makes me want to jump into the sea.
“They cry out for their true queen? They drink secret toasts to my health?” Daenerys walks closer to Varys, almost as if she were sizing him up. “People used to tell my brother that sort of thing, and he was stupid enough to believe them.”
Everyone in the room watches carefully as she picks up a dragon figurine from the table. “If Viserys had three dragons and an army at his back he’d have invaded King’s Landing already.”
“Conquering Westeros would be easy for you. But you’re not here to be the queen of the ashes.” Tyrion interjects.
“No,” Daenerys puts down the dragon figure.
“We can take the Seven Kingdoms without turning it into a slaughterhouse,” I say. “We already have three great houses supporting your claim.”
“I agree,” Tyrion nods my way. “With the Tyrell army and the Dornish on our side, we have powerful allies in the south.”
Daenerys looks at Varys. “I never properly thanked you for that.” Though, her voice lacked any bit of gratitude.
“They joined our side, my queen, because they believe in you.” Vays says.
“You served my father, didn’t you, Lord Varys?”
“I did,” He replies.
“And then you served the man who overthrew him?” Her tone shifted.
“I had a choice, Your Grace– serve Robert Baratheon or face the headsman's axe.” Varys says defensively.
“But you didn’t serve him long. You turned against him.”
“Robert was an improvement on your father, to be sure. There have been few rulers in history as cruel as the Mad King. Robert was neither mad nor cruel. He simply had no interest in being king.” Varys countered.
“So you took it upon yourself to find yourself a better one.” She pressed further.
Tyrion, feeling the tension in the room, comes to Varys’ defense. “Your Grace,” Daenerys turns towards Tyrion. “When I was ready to drink myself into a small coffin, Lord Varys told me about a queen in the east who–”
“Before I came to power,” Daenerys turned back to Varys, “you favored my brother. All your spies, your little birds, did they tell you Viserys was cruel, stupid, and weak? Would those qualities have made for a good king in your learned opinion?”
“Until your marriage to Khal Drogo, Your Grace. I knew nothing about you, save your existence and that you were said to be beautiful.” Varys deflects. Daenerys looks past and towards me.
“Are you sure?” I hummed, catching everyone’s attention. Varys’ face hardened and he glared towards me. “Because from what I remember, you’ve always known about Daenerys.”
I stepped forward, standing behind Daenerys. “Matter of fact, you were the one who planned Daenerys’ marriage to Khal Drogo with Illyrio.”
Varys opened his mouth to speak, but Daenerys beat him to it.
“You and your friends traded me like a prized horse to the Dothraki.”
“Which you turned to your advantage.” He was starting to panic. It was clear the Varys didn’t like to have his back against the wall.
“Who gave the order to kill me?”
“King Robert.” He replies quickly.
“Who hired the assassins?” She steps closer to Varys. “Who sent word to Essos to murder Daenerys Targaryen?”
“Your Grace,” you could hear panic set in his voice. “I did what had to be done–”
“To keep yourself alive.” Daenerys says firmly.
“Lord Varys has proven himself a loyal servant.” Tyrion says, trying to calm the situation.
“Proven himself loyal?” I scoffed.
“Quite the opposite.” Daenerys, turned towards her hand. “If he dislikes one monarch. He conspires to crown the next one. What kind of a servant is that?”
“The kind the realm needs.” Varys says firmly. “Incompetence should not be rewarded with blind loyalty. As long as I have my eyes, I’ll use them. I wasn’t born into a great house. I come from nothing. I was sold as a slave and carved up as an offering. When I was a child, I lived in alleys, gutters, abandoned houses. You wish to know where my true loyalties lie? Not with any king or queen, but with the people. The people who suffer under despots and prosper under just rule. The people whose hearts you aim to win. If you demand blind allegiance, I respect your wishes. Grey Worm can behead me or your dragons can devour me. But if you let me live, I will serve you well. I will dedicate myself to seeing you on the Iron Throne because I choose you. Because I know the people have no better chance than you.”
Silence lingers in the air as Varys’ words settle into the room. The rest watched the three of us carefully, holding their breaths.
“Swear this to me, Varys.” Daenerys’ voice is calm, and no longer holds any edge. “If you ever think I’m failing the people, you won’t conspire behind my back. You’ll look me in the eye as you have done today, and you’ll tell me how I’m failing them.”
Feeling satisfied that he’s in the clear, Varys stands straight. “I swear it, my queen.”
“And I swear this– if you even betray me, I’ll burn you alive.” She quickly warns.
Varys smiles. “I would expect nothing less from the Mother of Dragons.”
Amidst back and forth a servant had entered the room, informing Grey Worm of a visitor.
“Forgive me, my queen. A red priestess from As’shai has some to see you.”
––––
The doors to the throne room open, revealing a woman in red standing alone. She had red hair and dark red-ish eyes. Could this be?
The woman bows, her eyes linger on me before addressing Daenerys in Valyrian. “Queen Daeneys, I was a slave once, bought and sold, scourged and branded. It is an honor to meet the Breaker of Chains.”
“The Red Priests helped bring peace to Meereen. You are very welcome here. What is your name?” Daenerys replies.
“I am called Melisandre.”
“She once served another who wanted the Iron Throne.” Varys says from behind us. “It didn’t end well for Stannis Baratheon, did it?”
“No, it didn’t” Melisandre replies with no emotions.
Not only did it not end well for Stannis, but it also didn’t end well for his daughter who he burned alive under Melisandre’s orders, but if you ask her it was the “Lords” doing.
“You chose an auspicious day to arrive at Dragonstone.” Daenerys turns to look at Varys. “We’ve decided to pardon those who served the wrong king.”
Varys doesn’t reply and just bows his head, thankful that Daenerys hadn’t fed him to Drogon.
Daenerys turns back to Melisandre. “The Lord of Light doesn’t have many followers in Westeros, does he?”
“Not yet. But even those who don't worship the Lord can serve his cause.”
“What does your Lord expect from me?” Daenerys questions.
“The Long Night is coming. Only the prince who was promised can bring the dawn.”
I sucked in a breath through my nose. We were getting closer to Jon’s arrival and everything else that would follow suit.
“The prince who was promised will bring the dawn.” Daenerys repeats. “I'm afraid I'm not a prince.”
“Your Grace, forgive me, but your translation is not quite accurate.” Missandei corrects from the side. “That noun has no gender in High Valyrian, so the proper translation for that prophecy would be the prince or princess who was promised will bring the dawn.”
“Doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it?” Tyrion comments.
“No, but I like it better.” Daenerys turns back to Melisandre. “And you believe this prophecy refers to me?”
“Prophecies are dangerous things. I believe you have a role to play, as does another. The King in the North, Jon Snow.” Melisandre explains.
“Jon Snow?” Tyrion says, shocked. “Ned Stark's bastard?”
“You know him?” Daenerys asks.
Tyrion nods. “I traveled with him to the Wall when he joined the Night's Watch.”
“And why do you think the Lord of Light singled out this Jon Snow aside from the visions you’ve seen in the flames, that is?” Varys inquired.
“As Lord Commander of the Night's Watch he allowed the Wildlings south of the Wall to protect them from great danger. As King in the North he has united those Wildlings with the northern houses so together they may face their common enemy.”
Even after hundreds of years after the events of this time, Jon’s heroism is still marveled  upon. The North still remembers the King in the North.
“He sounds like quite a man.” I say.
“Summon Jon Snow. Let him stand before you and tell you things that have happened to him, the things that he has seen with his own eyes.” Melisandre urged Daenerys.
Tyrion nodded, “I can’t speak to prophecies or visions in the flames, but I like Jon Snow and I trusted him, and I am an excellent judge of character.”
“If he does rule the north, he would make a valuable ally. The Lannisters executed his father and conspired to murder his brother. Jon Snow has even more reason to hate Cersei than you do.” Tyrion added.
She glanced up from Tyrion to me, asking if it were true. I gave her a subtle nod and she turned back to Tyrion, smiling.
“Very well. Send a raven north.” She says. “Tell Jon Snow that his Queen invites him to come to Dragonstone… and bend the knee.”
–––
Our new allies arrived early in the morning, just as the sun rose over the horizon. I wore a black dress with a wool outer layer with silver clasps running from my collarbone to above my navel. The shoulders, forearms, and collar had a dragon scale pattern. It was simple, but still full of detail, but most importantly it kept me warm in this dreaded weather. The rain had stopped overnight, but the clouds had stayed, blocking any sunlight.
Everyone was gathered at the Painted Table, all ready and waiting for Daenerys to make her entrance. As I entered the room, conversation between our guests dulled down as they couldn’t look away. I didn’t have to look to know what they were thinking.
Another Targaryen?
The room was cold from the night's rain and the cold sea so I threw more wood into the hearth and stood by Missandei as we waited for Daenerys. I glanced around the room, watching as Yara, Ellaria, and Olenna talked but occasionally glanced towards me.
“They seem to be interested in you.” Missandei comments.
“I thought they’d have a bigger reaction,” I say. “Maybe a few jaw’s on the floor, or a few gasps of shock.”
Missandei chuckled. “I’m afraid all you’ll get is a few stares and gossip.”
“I guess I can take that.” I hummed.
The doors swung open as Daenerys entered. Everyone stood at attention as she made her way to the front of the room.
“I want to thank you all for making the journey to Dragonstone. Now, let us begin.”
Yara was the first to speak. “If you want the Iron Throne, take it. We have an army, a fleet, and three dragons. We should hit King's Landing now. Hard. With everything we have. The city will fall within a day.”
“If we turn the dragons loose, tens of thousands will die in the firestorms.” Tyrion shook his head.
Ellaria looked towards him with disgust, which was noticed by all. “It's called war. You don't have the stomach for it, scurry back into hiding.”
“I know how you wage war. We don't poison little girls here. Myrcella was innocent.” Tyrion bit back.
Ellaria scoffed. “She was a Lannister. There are no innocent Lannisters. My greatest regret is that Oberyn died fighting for you.”
“Oberyn was a grown man. He made his choice, no one can change that. Myrcella was a child, she didn’t do anything. I think we all here know that a child isn’t responsible for their fathers sins.” I said from the sidelines, giving her a pointed look.
“That's enough. Tyrion is the Hand of the Queen. You will treat him with respect.” Daenerys reminded. Both Tyrion and Ellaria backed down, Ellaria giving me one last look. “I am not here to be the Queen of Ashes.”
“That's very nice to hear.” Olenna said from across the table. “Of course, I can't remember a queen who was better loved than my granddaughter. The common people loved her, the nobles loved her. And what is left of her now? Ashes. Commoners, nobles, they're all just children really. They won't obey you unless they fear you.”
“I'm grateful to you, Lady Olenna, for your council. I'm grateful to all of you. But you have chosen to follow me. I will not attack King's Landing. We will not attack King's Landing.” Daenerys says, genuinely.
“Then how do you mean to take the Iron Throne? By asking nicely?” Olenna asks. I smiled at the older womens sass.
Daenerys looked towards me and I stepped forward. “We will lay siege to the capital, surrounding it on all sides. Cersei will have the Iron Throne, but no food for her army or the people.”
“But we won’t use Dothraki and Unsullied.” Tyrion adds. He walks around the carved table, “Cersie will try to rally the lords of Westeros by appealing to their loyalty, their love for their country. If we besiege the city with foreigners, we prove her point. Our army should be Westerosi.”
“And I suppose we’re providing the Westerosi?” Ellaria clarifies.
“You are.” Tyrion reached down, picking up a figurine that resembled a Kraken in a longship. “Lady Greyjoy will escort you home to Sunspear and her Iron Fleet will ferry the Dornish army back up to King’s Landing.” He walked over to the south of the map and picked up a figurine that resembled a sun. Taking both figurines, Tyrion places them at King’s Landing. “The Dornish will lay siege to the capital alongside the Tyrell army. Two great kingdoms united against Cersie.”
“So your master plan is to use our armies? Forgive me for asking, but why did you bother to bring your own?” Olenna asks Daenerys.
Tyrion reached down, picking up a figurine that looked like an Unsullied helmet. He walked around the map. “The Unsullied will have another objective. For decades House Lannister has been the true power in Westeros. And the seat of that power is Casterly Rock. Grey Worm and the Unsullied will sail for the Rock and take it.”
He stops in front of Casterly Rock, a lion figurine sitting on the Rock. Tyrion takes a moment before knocking over the lion with the Unsullied figurine to everyone's pleasure.
A clam settles and Daenerys addresses the room. “There is another matter to discuss.” Everyone looks at her, caught off guard. “I’ve come to learn that there will be an ambush in Blackwater Bay led by Euron Greyjoy under Cerseis’ order.”
“What?” Someone says.
“Your Grace,” Varys steps forward. “Forgive me, but I’ve heard no such thing to take place.” He eyes me suspiciously. “Perhaps you’re mistaken.”
“There have been no mistakes, Lord Varys.” Daenerys says. I moved to stand on Daenerys' side.
“Euron will strike at night.” I explain. “His ships are equipped with Scorpions, they’re deadly and will tare your ships to shreads.”
Yara’s face drops. “What the hell do we do? Our ships aren’t fully equipped to take on his.” Theon, behind her, is equally terrified.
“We know,” I say, calmly. “That is why I’ll be escorting you.”
“Forgive me, my dear, but what can you do?” Olenna asks.
“I’ll be on dragonback. I’ll be flying high enough to go unnoticed, but close by to help when the attack happens. There will be casualties on our end, that's certain, but this is war.” The others look at Daenerys and I in shock as they try to find the words to speak.
“But you’ve never flown into battle.” Tyrion says.
“So?” I shrug. “I’ll have to fight at one point, might as well start now.”
“My Lady, you’ve never flown out that far, you’ll be all alone.” Missandei says.
“No I won’t. I’ll have my dragon and I’ll have our new allies besides me.” I say, nodding towards Yara and Ellaria. “When I bent the knee to Daenerys and promised to get her the Iron Throne, I meant it. This is what I have to do.”
Daenerys gives me a reassuring look. She turned towards the room. “Do I have your support?”
Yara glances between Daenerys and I. “You have mine.”
“Dorne is with you, Your Grace.” Ellaria says.
Lady Olenna nods her head in agreement.
“Thank you all.” Daenerys says, somewhat relieved. “Lady Olenna, may I speak with you alone?”
Everyone bows and leaves the room. Before leaving I turned towards Daenerys, “I’ll go get ready for my departure.”
She nods. “Stay safe, sister.”
I smiled. “I will. When I’m back I’ll let you put a braid in my hair.” I say, leaving.
I stepped out into the hall and down to where my room was where everything was already ready for me. When I first had my conversation with Daenerys about the ambush I had also asked for some armor to be made for me. And with the help of the servants I was able to get into it quickly. It was simple but protective and it allowed me to ride my dragon without hurting either of us. I took two daggers that I’d also had made and placed them into their places on my hip.
Afterwards I headed to where the ships were docked and where Viserion was waiting for me. I stepped outside and saw everyone getting ready to leave. I spotted Yara and Theon were still on the docks giving orders to their crew.
“Is everything ready?” I ask.
“It is, My Lady. We’ll be leaving shortly.” Yara says.
“Good. You’ll leave first and I’ll be behind you not far off. We need to make it look like you’re alone and unsuspecting.” I explained. I glanced back at Theon who still hadn’t said anything, but had something on his mind. “Is something bothering you, My Lord?”
Theon looked taken aback, surprised that I was talking to him. “I’m not a lord.”
“You’re not?” I repeat. “You are Balon Greyjoy’s son, are you?”
He nods, not fully looking up at me.
“That makes you Lady Yara Greyjoy's brother, yes?”
He nods again, still not looking up.
“Then that makes you a Greyjoy, an Ironborn. You are every bit of a lord you are now and when you were born on Pyke, do not forget that. What’s happened has happened, no one can change that. All we can do is move forward. We Do Not Sow, yes?”
He nods, finally looking up at me.
––––
The ships had cleared out of the docks and were making their way into Blackwater Bay. I stood near the cliffs, ready to leave, when Tyrion came to stand beside me.
“What you’re doing is heroic, My Lady.” He says.
“I guess it is. I’ve never done anything like this.” I flexed my fingers. “My entire body’s buzzing. Was this what you felt before the Battle of the Blackwater and defeated Stannis’ army?”
Tyrion nodded. “It did. I felt like throwing up and shitting the floor at the same time.” We both laughed. “I had to drink a few glasses of wine to calm myself down. Perhaps it would help you, My Lady.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “No, I’m fine. I need a clear head. But, you can save me that glass for when I get back. Then we can talk about everything that needs to be talked about. Don’t you agree?”
“I do.”
––––
It was pitch black and cold. The heat from Viserion’s body was still keeping me warm, but the cold wind blowing past my face was getting to me. Even from up there I could hear the waves crashing down which meant that I’d be able to hear when Euron’s fleet attacked.
“How you feeling, big guy? Good?” I asked Viserion. He let out a small purr, his entire body vibrating. I sighed, looking up at the sky above. The stars and the mood were my only light as we flew further out.
“Okay,” I say out loud. “Let's go over our plan. When they attack our ships we fly down and torch them, but we have to be careful not to get too close or else we’ll be caught and we have to watch out for the Scorpions. One hit with that and we’ll be recreating Queen Rhaenys and Meraxes. And keep your eye out for Euron, we need him alive.”
Viserion purrs again and I take that as a sign that he agrees with the plan. The last few weeks I’ve flown with him were good, we’d stay around Dragonstone, the furthest we’ve been was Driftmark, so this was a huge risk.
When I had explained to Daenerys my plan she was apprehensive. It was clear that she didn’t want either Viserion or I to get hurt, but she knew that we also couldn’t risk our fleet and our army.
A loud crash brought me out of my thoughts, and a glow erupted from below. The steady waves of the ocean now clashed against one another as Euron began his assault.
This was it.
“Now.” I command.
In an instant Viserion flies down past the clouds and we’re met with Eurons fleet fighting against Yara’s. Almost instantaneously my body and mind knew what to do. Without a word Viserion flew down and prepared himself.
“Dracarys.”
Fire erupts out of his mouth and lights the enemy ships below us ablaze. He lets out a loud scratch, gathering everyone's attention below before striking again. It takes them a minute before they aim their Scorpions up towards us. The massive arrows fly past us as Viserion weaves between them while burning Eurons fleet.
It doesn’t take long for the battle to die down, the air filled with the smell of burnt wood and flesh. Our fleet was damaged but Eurons was completely destroyed. Anyone who could have survived the dragonfire were either killed or taken hostage. Like planned, a Targaryen flag is flown under the Greyjoy’s on Yara’s ship, Black Wind.
–––––
Once I’d landed back on Dragonstone I quickly said goodbye to Viserion, letting him rest, and made my way down to the docks where everyone, minus Grey Worm, would be waiting for me.
Daenerys was first to see me, giving me a tight hug while the others nodded my way, smiling.
“Well done, My Lady. You’ve done well.” Tyrion says.
“Thank you, but we’ve still got work to do.”
Right on que, a ship comes into the docks. The crew works quickly to anchor down and disembark. The Ironborn and a few Dornish step off before Theon and a few of his men step off. He’s a little bruised, and he’s got dirt and ash on his face, but overall well. He bow’s towards Daenerys and I, giving me a small smile before he steps aside and allows his men in front who are dragging a beaten up Euron Greyjoy.
“We’ve got him, Your Grace.” Says Theon.
“Good,” Daenerys’ eyes never left the unconscious Euron. “Bring him to the dungeons.”
The men hull him off and everyone makes their way back into the castle. I turn over to Tyrion.
“Let’s have that drink.”

“You called for me Khaleesi?” You say as you enter her tent late at night.
“(y/n), yes… I just cannot find sleep. Truthfully it has been difficult sleeping alone.” She says sadly, “An odd request to ask of you but- would you just lay with me?”
“Uh, yes, of course, Khaleesi.” You say a bit timid.
She moves to make room for you as you climb into her bed and lay beside her. She sighs, stuck in thought.
“If you want to talk with me Khaleesi, you know I am here to listen.” You gently say.
“I don’t know. I have just been feeling so dreadful after everything that has happened.” She confesses. “My nights have been restless.”
“Of course Khaleesi. You have been through so much of late. It is no wonder your mind won’t silence.” You say as you both slightly turn to face eachother.
“It has felt rather lonely…” she sighs. “You are truly the only person I feel I can trust (y/n)”
“I am glad to be the one who you can depend on.” You give a soft smile.
She smiles at your words and gazes into your eyes creating unknown tension between you. Her beauty was even more breathtaking up close like this.
You clear your throat to break the tension.
“Hmm,” she smiles turning her face. “I suppose I should try and get some rest.”
“Of course, Khaleesi. I will be right here.” You give a soft smile.
You both drift off to sleep until she gasps waking from a nightmare. You jolt awake.
“Are you alright Khaleesi?” you ask, concern in your voice.
“Yes. Yes. I-I’m fine.” She pants. “Just another dream.”
She turns to you and her startled face softens.
“It is nice to see your face when I wake though.” She lightly brushes hair from your face. “Thank you for staying with me.”
“Of course, Khaleesi.” You almost whisper, lightly touching her arm.
She lightly touches your arm in response, giving you a grateful look. This leads to delicate appreciative touches on eachothers arms, hair, cheeks. The electricity between you becoming more intense. She holds your cheek for a moment, her soft doe eyes looking longingly into yours. You feel your heart stop. You watch her quickly glance to your lips and back to your eyes. You do the same, your stare lingering on her lips for a longer moment before meeting her gaze again.
She slightly shuffles closer to you, and you do the same, her hand still on your cheek and your eyes never parting. You both continue to slowly move closer to eachother until you’re merely a breath away.
Her eyes continue to gaze into yours, with a more heated look. The moment is unbearably slow as you inch your faces closer until you connect with the lightest kiss, lips barely touching. After parting you both look at eachother, eyes full of lust and excitement, before meeting your lips again. You moan as your tongues gently dance together, it slowly builds into a deeper more passionate kiss. She pulls your body closer against her and you move to straddle her, lips never parting. Her breath hitches as you begin to grind against her, she grabs your hips to aid your movements.
Your lips part as you sit up, rhythmically moving your body on her creating friction of pleasure. The new position adding more pressure. You both breathe heavily as you now move back and forth faster, harder, her fingers digging into your hips and yours into her legs behind you. She gazes up at you admiring all of your beautiful features. You do the same admiring her golden beauty below you.
As your heavy breaths turn into whimpers and moans her hands wander slowly up and down your body. You both let out a long final moan as fireworks explode within your bodies. The whole khalasar able to hear but neither of you could find care in that moment.
With heavy breaths your lustful eyes meet once again. You both break into a small smile and giggle until her eyes turn heated once more. You gasp as she quickly grabs you and flips you over, laying on top of you. You moan as she boldly kisses your lips hard before moving down your neck and chest. She moves below your shirt and kisses down your stomach as her hands push up your skirts. Without hesitation she moves her mouth onto your core drawing a loud whimper from your throat. Your hands nestle into her golden hair as her tongue expertly licks your bundle of nerves. She slowly slips in her fingers causing a long groan from you. She moans against you at the way you tighten around her. Her tongue hits the perfect rhythm as her fingers move slowly in and out of you. You pant and moan as you begin to reach your second peak, grinding against her face. Her fingers suddenly speed up causing wave after wave of pleasure to hit you. You cry out her name before letting out a final heavy breath.
She gives a shy smirk as she moves back up and lands her lips on yours, tasting yourself on her tongue. You quickly push up her skirts and she yelps as you pull her onto your face. Before you’ve really even begun she already cries out, quickly hitting her own second peak as she rides out the wave of it against your mouth. She looks down at you with heavy eyes before plopping down on the bed beside you.
You lay face to face and give bashful smirks and giggles. She looks at you like she wants to speak but doesn’t know what to say.
“Goodnight Khaleesi.” You smile and brush her hair from her face.
“Goodnight (y/n).” She blushes and gives a soft smiles back.
You watch her quickly drift off to sleep before you follow right after. Khaleesi had the first peaceful sleep in a long time. No longer awakening to nightmares, but waking up to the relief of seeing your lovely face laying beside her.

I remember the days when Game of Thrones leaks were about almost all my faves dying awful deaths after having their story arcs rotted either into ooc villainy/cowardice/murder and/or ships they’d dropped seasons prior. This week, I was terrified it had happened again.
But no, my sweet summer children. The internet is on fire today because a queer person is in charge and their relationships are important.
Gamers, have we FINALLY dropped into the Right Timeline? 😭

The only thing that would make asoiaf and its various tv adaptations better would be if George R.R. Martin had all the pretty girls kiss each other on the mouth. There’s a criminally low level of lesbianism that I personally think, if rectified, could only further elevate what is already great

Hi, hey. Does anyone ship show Dany x Missandei x Greyworm? Is there a ship name for them as a threesome? Have I asked this before? I may have. It's just I was thinking about Black Sails and James x Thomas x Miranda and Miranda's last words:
What do I want? I want to see this whole goddamn city, this city that you purchased with our misery, burn. I want to see you hanged on the very gallows you’ve used to hang men for crimes far slighter than this. I want to see that noose around your neck and I want to pull the fucking lever with my own two hands!
I see a parallel with Missandei's outcry:
Dracarys!
Before she is beheaded. Of course Game of Thrones completely and utterly fails Dany, Missandei, and Greyworm whereas Black Sails definitely does not fail James x Thomas x Miranda. But I'm chewing over this and spiraling a little. Why is Black Sails always writing Game of Thrones so much better?
Also does anyone ever imagine them as the three heads of the dragon? I may have to make some gifsets....

The walls of scrolls and ancient texts nearly reached the top of the ceiling. The smell of wax and parchment lingered in the room. Sunlight poured down from the skylight window. I’d never seen the room before, not on any website or during the tour of the castle. We were practically underground, in a more older portion of Dragonstone that was most likely withered away in the future. Diamond-patterned shelves filled with scrolls lined the walls on each side with a set of ladders and landings for easy access. A row of tables sat in the middle of the room, a large candle lit chandelier hanging down at the center.
I found the room whilst exploring the lower portions of the castle. It seemed that this was where all the old Valyrian texts were stored after the Targaryen’s arrival and before the Doom. When I’d first entered my head started to spin just off of the sheer size of the place. When I opened the first few scrolls and saw the ancient writing I couldn’t help but thank my parents for teaching me Valyrian Glyphs as well as the modern written form. Suddenly all those hours sitting at the dinner table studying with my father after dinner wasn’t so bad.
So far my search had been fruitless, every lead coming to a dead end. There was practically nothing about either magic being used to bring people back in time or any mythologies relating to my predicament. There were plenty of other scrolls that taught the reader how they can cast various different spells and pyrokinesis. There were even a few that explained how to hatch stone dragon eggs, without human sacrifices.
I scoffed, pushing that one scroll in particular to the side. I’m sure Dany could have used this while she was in the Dothraki Sea.
Hours went by while I poured over all sorts of scrolls, but I found nothing that could explain my sudden appearance or a way to go back. The candles were nearly melted by the time I’d stored away the last scroll and shut the door to the reference room. I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed. I really thought that if I could find any leads about my situation then it would be on Dragonstone.
I thought that in all of the texts the Targaryens brought over from Valyria at least one would have the answers I was looking for. But I was wrong.
The Valyrians were the first to bound themselves with dragons using blood magic. During the Valyrian empire’s height magic was an integral part of their culture and history. There’s no telling what they couldn’t do. If only they were good at spreading their knowledge, just far enough to Volantis at least, then maybe the ancient empire wouldn’t be such a mystery.
Daenerys sat in a closed off patio, staring off into the distance when I arrived for dinner. She was no longer in her signature dark Targaryen garb, but rather in a more simple and modest gown. Her hair was in her signature braids, but not as dramatic as usual.
“What’s on your mind?” My question pulled her out of her thoughts, only now realizing that I was here.
“Nothing,” she half-smiles. “Just another long day. Come– sit. The food’s still warm.” She motions for me to sit, which I do. “I heard you were busy in the reference library again.”
I sat, laying the cloth napkin on my lap. “Another bust,” a servant places a plate of food in front of the two of us before leaving. “Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of information, but none that I needed.”
“Have you looked into other sources?”
I sighed, reaching for the wine. “I already have. The Seven don’t really believe in whatever my situation is, and the Old Gods are mostly about nature; forest, rivers, stone.” The knife in my hands easily cut through the piece of meat on my plate.
“What of the Old Gods of Valyria?”
“They're just deities.” I placed my elbows on the table. “We still worship them beyond the Black Wall, but they also don’t provide any information. They’re just God’s you pray to, to keep traditions for some.”
“So that’s it?”
“I still have one person to ask, but she’s already gone to Volantis.”
“Melisandre?” Daenerys frowns, “but she’s not coming back.”
I shake my head. “She is. It’s her fate to die in Westeros. When she returns I’ll have to ask her before she takes the plunge.”
Daenerys nods, slowly, understanding. There’s a moment of silence, the two of us busy eating before Daenerys asks me the important question that’d been lingering in the air since my arrival.
“What will you do if you can’t go back?”
I sit still, but then shrug. “Stay here, I guess. Don’t have any other option, do I?” I look away from her, staring off into the distance, the night sky glimmering. No matter how many times I see the stars, I’m always mesmerized. You can’t get a view like this in the modern world, the light pollution clouding the beautiful night sky.
“I’ll probably explore around a bit.”
“You won’t get married?”
I paused, caught off guard. “I.. I don’t know.” I turned back to her. “I never thought of anything like that.”
“Did you fancy anyone from your time?”
“No,” I thought back. “Sure, I had a few crushes here and there, a boyfriend once, but nothing when I entered University, I was too focused on my studies than the opposite sex.”
“Why? Are you trying to marry me off to some Lord to help your claim?” I teased.
She playfully rolled her eyes. “I’m only asking. If you do end up staying here then I don’t want you to be alone.”
“But I’m not alone.” I said. “I have you.”
She smiled. “I know that. What I mean is that I want you to have someone close to you. Someone to grow old with and perhaps a few children with.”
I mulled over her words. “We’ll see. But my main goal is to get you on that throne first.”
“Would that be before or after we join the Army of the Dead?” She jests.
“Boo, bad joke.” I smiled.
The rest of our night went smoothly, the two of us opting to not talk about war plans or the futures but rather of our childhoods. She told me stories about growing up in Essos, one that wasn't in any textbook and I told her about the modern world. I still remember telling her about modern transportation and technology, her jaw smacking the ground.
We dined till the late hours of the night, only calling a night after we’d drank all the wine in the room. My body slightly buzzed, the alcohol flowing through me. Something that I learned when I arrived here was that alcohol was less potent compared to the future. So while everyone else could get drunk with a few glasses, I was just lightly buzzed.
But that buzz didn’t last long. I was immediately sobered when I saw that the door to my chambers was left open. I stared at the door, silently listening for any movements. I vividly remembered closing my door in the morning. Maybe it was an assassin? But that wouldn’t make any sense. If an assassin was hired he’d go straight for Daenerys, not me.
Carefully, I stepped closer to the door, trying to not make a sound and catch the intruder's attention. I peeked through the gap between the wall and door, but saw nothing. No man dressed in robes waiting for me with a knife in my hand. I slowly pushed the door open, thankful that it didn’t creek.
The receiving room was empty, nothing out of its place. The bedroom was also, oddly, empty. I scanned the room for anything missing or changed, but the room was just as I had left it this morning. The only room that was left was the study. The door was slightly ajar and a faith wrestling could be heard. I took in a deep breath and pushed it open, expecting to see some man, but instead being met with a child.
The kid, possibly around ten years old, rummaged through my drawers. She wore a simple, yet tethered, dress, her long hair tied back. Her hands stopped moving and her body stiffened as she’d been caught. I stared in disbelief, what the hell is this kid doing?
“What are you looking for?” My voice came out more rough than it should have, but I couldn’t care. Was this kid really going through my things?
She didn’t reply, her eyes flickering back to the door behind me. I slammed the door shut, fully blocking any way out and asked again. “What are you doing?”
She still didn’t reply, shaking in fear as if I’d kill her on the spot. She hid her hands behind her dress. I marched closer to her and she stepped back, her back almost hitting the wall. I reached out, grabbing her hands, surprising her.
Scrolls that I’d written were clutched in her grasp, and in the small pockets of her dress. They ranged from menial things like day to day updates from either the Unsullied or Dothraki to sensitive subjects like Yara Greyjoy and her fleet's location or warplanes to take King’s Landing.
I looked back at the child who seemed to be scared out of her mind, tears brimming her eyes. It was clear someone put her up to this. No child in their right mind would travel all the way up into the castle, know where my room and study were, and rummage through my stuff.
“Who set you up to this?” I lowered my tone, trying to seem less frightening. The child's eyes were a light gray with hints of lavender. Her hair was a light blonde and freckles danced around her face. By the looks of it she was either a Dragonseed or the descendant of one.
“I’m not mad,” this time I tried in Valyrian. “I just want to know who told you to do this.”
Her exterior flattered for a moment, but it wasn’t enough to calm her nerves. I sighed, crouching down so that I was eye level to her. “I won’t hurt you, I promise. And I won’t let anyone hurt you or your family. All you have to do is tell me who told you to do this.”
She hesitates, and my grip on her hand loosen. I absentmindedly rubbed small circles around her wrists as a way to calm her.
“The..” she stopped, scared that someone would hear, but I gave her hand a light squeeze, reassuring her. “The bald man. He said if I found him a special letter then he’ll bring me to my mother and father.”
The bald man? Does she mean THE bald man?
“Do you mean the bald man that is with Queen Daenerys?”
She nods.
Fucking snake.
She seems to notice that shift in my mood and quivers. I catch myself before I worsen my mood.
“What’s your name?”
“Alana.”
I smiled, “what a beautiful name.” I stood up, reaching into the middle drawer that she didn’t go through and grabbed a tied handkerchief. I knelt down next to her and untied it revealing a few cookies and bit’s of chocolate. Her eyes lit up and she looked between the sweet treats and me.
“Here, you can have all of this, if you promise to not say a word, okay? You can’t tell anyone that I saw you tonight, especially the bald man.”
She nods her head, eager to eat the cookies.
“But, you have to do one teeny-tiny thing for me.” She looks up at me with her doe eyes. “You have to tell the Queen what you told me.”
Panic, once again, sets in and she rapidly shakes her head. “No, she’ll-”
“She won’t do anything,” I place my hand on her shoulder. “Her Grace doesn’t hurt children. She’ll protect you from the bald man. Both her and her dragons.”
It took some convincing but she’d finally agreed. I placed her on my bed with the snacks and lit a few candles. I called for an Unsullied guard to go get Daenerys while I waited with her.
“You said that the bald man would take you to your parents, where did they go?”
She chews on a piece of chocolate and swallows. “They were taken by the man with the stag. He was bald too. He also had a daughter.”
Stag, bald, and had a daughter.
“Stannis.” I hummed. Knowing him, I’m sure that he’d executed them. Most of the villagers on the island are some form of Dragonseeds, bastards of the Targaryens and most definitely still loyal to them. It’s most likely that Alana’s parents had refused to bow to either Robert or to serve Stannis during his stint on Dragonstone and were killed as a result.
The doors to my room opened and Daenerys, who was dressed in a robe and looked to have been pulled out of bed, walked in. “Did something happen?”
I nod and stand up. Alana peeks at Daenerys from behind me, but quickly hides when they make eye contact.
“I found her going through my things. Apparently, a friend of ours sent her to find something.”
Daenerys looks between me and the little girl. “Who?”
I turned back to Alana. “Sweetheart, why don’t you tell Her Grace what you told me, don’t worry, she won’t be mad at you.”
The little girl holds her hands closer to her. “The bald man. He told me to look through the ladies' things.”
“The bald man?” Daenerys repeats. She turns back to me. “Varys?”
I nodded. “Seems like he’s interested in what I’ve been up to.”
Anger quickly takes over Daenerys and she turns to march down to his chambers. I grab her arm, “no wait.”
“Wait?” She scoffed. “Varys is spying on my own people. He’s using children to do his dirty work and you want me to wait?”
“Yes, I do. Dany, we can’t nail him yet.”
She frowned. “Then what? We pretend that nothing’s happened?”
“That’s exactly what we do. He doesn't know what we know now, we can use that to our advantage.”
“What are you suggesting?”
“Let him believe what he wants to. All we have to do is feed him the information that we want and take the information we need from him.”
“And you are sure this will work?”
I nodded. “Let the spider think that he’s spun his web, it’s only a matter of time before he gets too confident and makes a mistake.”
––
The next morning, after my morning sparring practice and breakfast with Daenerys, I was called down to the caves by Jon Snow. He and his men had made considerable progress mining the Dragonglass. Crates of the volcanic glass were placed around the path leading to the caves. The sound of pickaxes and chisels hammering against the cave walls echoed out from the cave entrance.
Jon Snow stood by a few crates of what I assumed was freshly mined Dragonglass. He wore his usual attire; dark tunic underneath his black and brown leather armor, long black leather gloves and matching boots with dark trousers that had some wear and tear. He’d foregone his fur cloak and armored breastplate with House Stark sigil for the sake of practicality.
Ser Davos, who stood in front of Jon, nodded my ways. He turned as I stepped closer, and their previous conversation came to a halt.
“My Lady, thank you for coming.”
I glanced around us. “You and your men seem to be making quite a bit of progress.”
Jon nods, “we’re grateful that you and Queen Daenerys have allowed us to mine all of the Dragonglass.”
“That’s not why you called for me is it?”
“No.” He motions for me to follow him. We walk around a few crates, coming to a stop in front of a covered wagon, hidden from everyone.
“We found these, deep in the caves. I’ve told my men who first found them to keep quiet about it.”
Ser Davos opens the wagon’s doors and removes the cloth over the objects revealing a cluster of dulled dragon eggs. My eyes widened and I turned to Jon who also had the same shock written all over his face.
“Is this all you’ve found?”
“So far. We found these near the end of the cave before it split off into other directions.”
I slowly nod, half focused on his words. My eyes ran over the eggs, five to be exact, all of them covered in dirt and stone. There were two lighter colored eggs, a white-gray and a pastel pink-purple. The other three were a dark navy blue, a dark green, and a pure black egg. I reached out and carefully grabbed the green egg, wiping away the dirt and debris the best I could. It left off a gold almost iridescent shimmer in the sun. The eggs themselves were hard, the outside covered in a scaled pattern. I gently turned the egg over in my hands, running my fingers over the surface.
I took in a deep breath, stunned.
After Daenerys’ death, Dragonstone was handed off to The Crown. Over the decades, the castle had been turned into somewhat of a vacation home for the Royal Family. The Velaryon’s had contested the decision for many years, claiming that the castle was the last remnants of the Targaryen and of Valyria and that it should be preserved and handed to them as they were the closest to the extinct house. But in reality, they were more interested in exploring the castle than honoring it.
They’d found Dragonegg’s littered all over the island, nestled away in the string of cave networks. Dragon bones and skulls dating back to the dragons the Targaryens first brought to the islands were also found in caves in the island's volcanic mountains. By the time the eggs were found they’d been completely fossilized and turned to stone. Taking inspiration from Daenerys, the Velaryons tried to hatch the dragons in secret, but lacked the (for a lack of better words) magic that the Targaryens held.
But this, this was something else.
I turned to Jon, who’d been watching me, “thank you.” He slightly bows his head, surprised by my sincerity. “Did you find anything else?”
“No, My Lady, that’s all we’ve run across.”
I pressed my lips and nods, looking back down at the eggs. “Alright. Keep mining, but don’t go too deep.” I set the dragon egg back down, “now help me get these to Daenerys.”
––
The five eggs, now properly cleaned of any dirt, sat in a chest between Daenerys and I. Her eyes stayed glued to the eggs as Jon recounted what he’d told me. But, like me, her focus was entirely on the eggs. She dismisses him, leaving the two of us. Silence hangs in the air for many moments, neither of us knowing what to say.
“Did you know that there were eggs on the island?” She finally asks.
“I did,” I sat back, eyes flickering between the chest and her. “But I didn’t know where exactly they were. I just never knew that they were just.. right there.”
She hums. “They look like they’re turned to stone.”
“We can still bring them back.”
“Where would we keep them?”
I shrugged. “I’m sure there's a few warming brazier’s laying around. We can chuck them in there while we deal with the Night King.”
She looks up at me, “are you sure we can hatch them?”
“Yeah, why not? Just need some good-old fashioned Valyrian blood magic.”
Daenerys chuckles. “Alright, I’ll tell the servants to light a few warmers.”
She stands from her seat, walking over and grabbing the dark blue dragon egg, turning it over in her hands.
“How many of these are there?” She muttered.
“Plenty,” I replied, standing up myself. “The entire island is littered with them.”
“What?”
I pour a glass of wine. “The caves under the island are almost littered with them. Some of them are in the caves up in the mountains.”
I motioned her towards the window that faced mountains. “Jaehaerys’ dragon, Vermithor, used to dwell in a cave on that mountain. It’s said that he laid a clutch of eggs in there, but by the time we found them they were completely stone.”
Daenerys steps forwards and peers out the window to the large mountain in the distance. “If the Dragonegg’s were here all along, then why did they die out?”
I shrugged “Hell if I know.” I take a sip of the wine, leaning on the windowsill. “It’s rumored that after Rhaenyra’s death that the Targaryen's love and bond with the dragons was bruised, I guess you can say. People believe that the closer the dragons are to their riders, the stronger the magic. But after a civil war where the dragons pitted against each other and other riders, I guess the magic fizzled out.”
“Well, that’s until you came around,” I motioned towards Dany with my glass.
She stared off to where Vermithor’s cave was. “So many mistakes,” she muttered. “They made so many mistakes and it cost our house everything.”
“But you won’t do the same thing.” I said.
She turned to me, determined. “No, I won’t.”
––
The walls are jagged and raw, a clear contrast to the smooth walls of the castle. It’s dim, squinting my eyes to try and adjust to the lack of light. My footsteps echoed off of the walls.
One, two, three, four… and five.
He lay on the cold ground on top of a sad looking chunk of hay that looked as if it was on its last legs. He’s wearing the same trousers and dirty tunic as he was when he was brought here. His chest has a slight rise and fall indicating he’s alive. His face caked in blood and dirt, making me grimace.
“Wake up.”
He doesn’t move, eyes still closed. Annoyed, I reach over to a bucket on the side of the entrance of his cell, grabbing a cup full of water. I splashed it on him through the cell doors.
“I said, wake up.”
He gasps, coughing and sits up straight, surprised. His head snaps over in my direction, eyes narrowing, but he doesn’t make any effort to move out of the shadows and into the dim light.
“You bitch!”
I drag a chair over in front of the cell bars, crossing my legs as I sit. “That’s no way to address a Lady.”
He scoffs. “Y’er the furthest thing from a Lady,” he licks his chapped lips. “But you’ve got a pretty face like one. Maybe once your Dragon Queen agrees to my offer I’ll fuck you both”
I narrow my eyes, but bite my tongue. “And you really think that she’ll take you as, what did you say? A King?”
“I am a King!” He growls.
“Any man who must say ‘I am the King’ is no true King.” I quote Tywin Lannister.
“I am the King of Salt and Rock.” He brings his face closer to me into the light.
“Your niece and nephew would argue otherwise.” I glare down at Euron.
“That bitch and her cock-less brother? They’re nothing. I’ll kill them just like I killed their father.”
“That ‘bitch’ is on her way to reclaim the Iron Islands, and her ‘cock-less brother’ handed you your own ass, landing you here, in a dungeon.”
“She won’t make it.” He double downs. “The Ironborn don't follow women.”
“We’ll see.” I lean in closer, eyeing him through the bars. “It’s a new dawn. Two Queens are fighting for the Iron Throne, most of Westeros’ noble houses are led by women. I think the Iron Islands won’t mind a woman leading them.”
Euron pushes himself against the wall. “Won’t last long. They’ll get tired of her and crave for their true king.”
I leaned forwards. “That awfully confident of you considering your predicament. It’s almost like you have something under your sleeve.” His demeanor shifts, a wave of arrogance and cockiness falling over him.
He smirks. “Y’wanna know? Hm?” He runs his beady eyes down my figure and I tried not to shiver out of disgust. “Why don’t you do me a favor and I’ll tell you.”
“Really?” I played along. “And why would I do that? Not to be too mean, but you don’t seem to be the type to be strategic, just dumb luck.”
His eye twitches at my comment. He leans forwards, a crazed look in his eyes, as if he’d just hit the jackpot. “Cause it’s the one thing that will make your dragons mine.”
Gotcha.
“Let me guess, a Dragonbinder?”
His face falls, shocked that I already knew about his “trump card” that not even Cersei knew about. His mouth falls open, but no words come out.
“What? Cat got your tongue? You were pretty chatty before, what happened?”
He recovers well, becoming more hostile. “Knowing about it won’t change a thing. I’ll get out of here and when I do, I’ll kill you and everyone in this fucking castle and feed you to your own fucking dragons!”
I stare at him momentarily before smiling. “I’ll count on it.” I stand, getting ready to leave. “You’ve lost, Euron. I look forward to your coming execution. Sleep well till then.”
––
“Are you sure?” Daenerys asks, tethering between skepticism and fear.
I nodded. “I didn’t believe it either. From what I had heard it was purely a rumor, but he just confirmed for me.”
“A Dragonbinder?” Missandei raised a brow. “I don’t seem to be familiar with that item.”
“You shouldn’t be.” I said. “It’s something like an ancient relic of Old Valyria. It’s a horn made of an enormous dragonbone and is six feet long. It’s said that whoever blows into it will have the power to control dragons, but I’ve never seen it before nor have I known anyone to have ever seen it, let alone have it in their possession.”
“And you believe Euron is hiding it somewhere?” Varys asks, hand folded in his lap.
“It’s alleged when he went to claim the Seastone Chair he presented the horn to impress his followers. How much of it is true is beyond me, but I think this is something we should keep a close eye on.”
“Has it ever been used?” Dany asks.
“I don’t know. I’ve checked the reference library and found nothing.”
“So the horn’s a sham?” Varys says.
“We don’t know that,” I frowned. “A threat is a threat, regardless if it’s been documented or not.” I turned back to Dany. “Look, I’m telling you all I know. There’s possibly a Dragonbinder out there and it could turn your children against you.”
Daenerys sighs, deep in thought. On one hand this could be a plausible threat. History has proven that anything that remains from Valyria could have the power to cause tremendous change while on the other hand, no one really knows if it exists and if it’s an actual threat to anyone.
“If what you say is the truth then that means Euron and his men have a powerful weapon against me and my children. However, no one, but one man, knows where it is and we don’t know if it’s an actual threat or not. For now, we focus on the task at hand, Euron and the Dragonbinder can wait.”
I nod, understanding. “Whatever you say, Your Grace.”
––
The stars shone bright in the night sky, not a cloud in sight. The moon glimmered brightly, a perfect reflection in the deep ocean. It was one of those nights where everything was still, as if time had stopped. There was no sound, no wind, nothing, just pure silence.
I took in a deep breath, relaxing my shoulders and leaned against the stone railing. My eyes trailed from the sky to the ocean, the beach, and then the cave entrance. Wagons and crates were left around along with what looked to be mining equipment. It wouldn’t be long until all of the Dragonglass would be mined away and then we’ll be marching North to face off against the Night King.
“Hope I’m not interrupting you,” a voice called from behind. I turned around to see Daenerys walking closer to me.
“No, you’re not.” I smiled. “It’s pretty late, shouldn’t you be asleep?”
“I could ask you the same.”
I turned back to stare off in front of me, “couldn’t sleep. Thought I would be able to after some fresh air, but the sleepiness hasn’t kicked in yet.”
She comes to stand besides me, a comfortable silence falling over us. I looked back down at the cave entrance.
“Since I’ve came here I've been debating whether the Gods are cruel or kind.” I let out a sigh. “On one hand, they’ve taken me from my friends, family, my home. The other, I’ve been given the opportunity to rewrite history, and right the wrongs of mankind.” I let out a humorless laugh and turned towards Dany. “But regardless of what’s happened, I’m glad I’m here to help you and make sure you don’t go through this alone.”
She reached over to grasp my hand, reassuringly. I smiled, “whatever happens from here on out, I want you to know that. I love you, sister.”
Tears brimmed her eyes and she smiled. “I love you too. I pray that when this is over you can find a way back to your family.”
“But you’d be all alone.”
“Wouldn’t be the first time.” She smiled bittersweet. “I’ve lost my family, I know the pain. I can’t have you going through that.”
I swallowed thickly, looking up and blinked away my tears. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the moon, above.
I cleared my throat, “when I was a child, I visited my Ñāma, um my Grandmother, in Volantis. One night, when the sky was like this she told me a story about two sisters. The younger one was very sick and couldn’t be out during the day so she and her elder sister would go out at night, making sure not to go too far off from home. And every night, under the shade of a large tree, the elder sister would sing a lullaby to her little sister about the moon. And every night, the younger sister would say ‘The sun is for everyone, but we have the moon,’ and she’d fall asleep with a smile. One night, just like any other, the two sisters go out and the eldest sings a lullaby, except this time, the younger one never opens her eyes and passes in her sleep. And for the rest of her life, the eldest sister, before going to bed, would sing a lullaby to the moon, hoping it would reach her sister, because they always had the moon.”
At this point tears were streaming down both of our faces, and I tried my best not to start crying. “Daenerys, wherever we are, we’ll always have the moon.”
We both burst into tears, pulling each other into a tight embrace, crying in each other's arms under the glimmering moon.
