Thinking about the fight against Don Quixote Sr.

Even though he can’t ever verbally express it in front of his other Kindred, he still finds ways to support Sancho during his fight. The first example I noticed was during the Windmill phase, where his gondola attack won’t deal damage if you give even the inkling of not wanting to be hit (defense skill).

The second, more meaningful one to me was during the Carousel Horse phase. There, he will target his own horses and damage them into staggering so you can finish them off to turn them into horses that buff Sancho, the ones representing their shared dream. The ones representing the dream Don Quixote let fall and Sancho returned with. Even though he feels that his own dream has ended, maybe it isn’t impossible in Sancho’s hands.

Still thinking about how Dad Quixote was born in the wrong world. Tokyo Ghoul is similarly depressing sometimes (though especially because of all the shit Kaneki goes through), but the ending is much similar to the hemobar solution Dad Quixote came up with. Like yes, even in TG:Re it's not a perfect ending, there are ghouls who simply will continue to kill and consume humans, but they don't have to and that's still a happy ending.

Dad Quixote had no such happy ending with his solution. It's awful and sad and god I wish he and his family didn't have to suffer due to being born in such a cruel world.

I have a fun theory-ish thing I've been brewing up and that is that refraction railways serve as the actual thematic connections between cantos. I can't speak much for the first two railways, but railway 3 had the 'mirrorclock orangeroad' theme before going into canto 6, in T corp.

And more recently, railway 4, masquerade. Beyond the obvious connection in name alone to the bloodfiends in la Manchaland all wearing masks, there's also some really interesting parallels between it and Canto 7 with the names of the first and last stops being banquet and feast respectively, the envy peccatulum who shallowly try and replicate humanity, dreaming electric sheep which reflects a question on humanity...

And THEN there's the King in Binds.

The king bound to his throne, decaying. And yet not physically trapped, as we see when he chooses to leave of his own volition to battle us, but rather presumably bound out of some sense of duty. Who throws his vassals at us in the first stage of the fight before choosing to take things into his own hands.
