2020 Tierra Del Sol Safari Expo: Trucks, Gear and $100k Giveaway

Off-Road Expos attract thousands and thousands of visitors across the country every year. Yet out in Salton Sea, CALIFORNIA the crew at the Tierra Del Sol 4by4 Club do things just a little different at the Safari Expo . They sponsor 1, 000’s of offroaders each year inviting them to go play within the desert for the weekend and then provide a headquarters jampacked with food, suppliers, demo vehicles and some of the greatest giveaways of any show close to. This year (February 28th to Mar 1st) offered a new in-town area to give attendees a break from the throwing out desert sand and a chance to appreciate all the demo vehicles, food, loved ones fun, and vendor sales that people love about these shows.

Part of what makes this particular show so special is based on whom the Tierra Del Sol Membership (TDS) is and what they do. TDS is a non-profit group of Southern Ca based off-road enthusiasts that have been discovering the deserts since 1962. The particular club not only offers a family pleasant gathering for fellow four-wheelers yet is also a dedicated advocator for keeping countries open and protecting off-roader legal rights. The Annual Safari and connected Expo are major fundraisers for all those efforts and TDS treats this as such and pulls out all of the stops.

As a massive fan of the JT platform I can say I'm disappointed in the fact that it can be quickly becoming the display automobile of choice for a majority of vendors.

Lots of shows provide raffles as part of the fun, but TDS takes this to a whole new degree, with over $118, 000 really worth of off-road goodies raffled away this year.   Major brands from over the industry were represented in this year’s giveaway. Intense Terrain was providing up two of their Trail Power bumpers fully equipped with winches plus covers. Eaton threw in a set of lockers valued at $2, 1000. Mickey Thompson went all out having a set of five 17-inch rims. A few companies like Bilstein put in present cards so you could choose anything at all in their line for a prize. As a whole, over 80 companies had items in the raffle so there were lots of winners.

General the expo was just one section of the fun the Safari offered using so many vendors and activities this is a great part of the weekend. Add in the truth that the proceeds go to helping maintain local trails open and it will get sweeter than my mandatory take a look at the funnel cake booth each and every show.
