It’s not money. Not for either party.

I don’t need money. I don’t know who I’m in debt to, it was a voice. I was desperate and my immortality was draining so I pleaded. Cried out to the nearest deity that would listen. We made a pact and in return, they had me protect you. They’re mortal, they’re expendable. When they’re tired of all their research leading them nowhere, it means I don’t have to worry. Worry about conspiracy theories or the internet. That’s when I’m done, that’s when the debt is paid.

You see, I don’t benefit any from turning you in, unless I want to age quickly, beyond compare to dust. To ash.

By next week, I’ll be all paid up.

And then I’ll be able to get to know you, without them looming over. That is what I want most, however strange it might sound.
