Whumptober #4- Running out of time

Trigger warnings: torture, drowning, Major character death.

Coughs wrenched from his chest as he attempted to catch a small Gould off air, but god it hurt so much. A hands claps over his chest, his first blending tightly at the wet fabric as he reached water, desperate for air.

His glasses fell at some point while he was underwater, not that he cared at the moment. What matters to him the most was breathing as much air as he could before the demon decided to strip that from him again.

A chill runs up his already trembling frame when a glitch like chuckle was heard from the far corner. His heart was beating frantically, Henrik could swear it’d burst free from his chest at any moment. A weak, bloodied hand wraps weakly around the iron bars of his cell as his eyes search for his captor.

Steps echoed around the concrete room as Anti nears the cage, and that only makes Henrik tremble more in fear. The sudden appearance of the demon makes him jump, his back hitting hard the bars and making him lose his breath and that only makes a devilish grin curl on Anti’s face. The urge to beg was strong, he wanted to be let go, beg for his life. How much more was the doctor able to handle...? A broken sob escapes him, genuine tears of fear sliding down his grimy face. Deep down Henrik was cursing himself for showing any weakness, for giving Anti what he wanted. But what hope was there left? It has been months, maybe years? Time was not important anymore. And by the looks of it, no one would come for him. He had faced that realization what felt like ages ago, but stubborn as he is, Henrik wouldn’t believe it.

“P-Please... l-let me go... ple—Please...” he nearly choked out to then be followed by a whimper as a knife was pointed to his throat.

“Your begging... is music to my ears, puppet. Have I finally broken you?” Anti hums as he contemplates his options on what to do next. “I wonder... how much more that frenetic heart of yours can take. Shall we find out, Doctor?”

Icy blue eyes stare back, wide with horror. Henrik begins to shake his head, hands now gripping tightly at the bars once more as they rattle, a weak attempt of him to get out. He’s running out of time!

Before he knew it cold water washed over him, the doctor submerged underwater once more. His lungs were already screaming for air, and desperation already seized his heart. A muffled scream escapes him as he pulls on the bars, millions of bubbles surfacing without him as he desperately struggled to break free. How long could he last this time? Was this really the end? Was he really ready to give up the fight...?

He couldn’t, but he was so tired. This nightmare seemed like it would never end. The doctor looks up at the surface as he let go of the bars, letting himself sit at the bottom of the cage. “This is the only way out...” he thinks to himself. His heart breaks in a million pieces when he thinks of his daughter, if he had any regrets... Henrik wouldn’t be able to see her grow up. He wouldn’t see her smile, hear her say how much he loved him.

She would never know what happened to him. And oddly enough... he was okay with that. A hand clasps around his throat as he inhales water. It’s so painful, his lungs burn and his body goes into shock. His vision grows dark by the second as the last bubbles slip out from his lips. This... wasn’t so bad after all... A sad smirk tugs on his numb lips, at least he was at peace now.

And maybe... just maybe, deep down Henrik knew he didn’t deserve to be saved. This is what he deserves for being a failure. For not being able to save his creator, for letting him die in his care.

He deserves this...

“I’m so sorry...” was the last thought to cross his mind before he completely faded into a dark abyss.
