Phase 2 of The Space Disco Project - Once we gain popularity with Earth Day n Night we go to the town with our idea of Space Disco / Café Disco and get approval to host larger scale DJ sets and self-care events. These will be focused on the media but have an audience like Cercle.

Phase 3 of The Space Disco Project - After doing it on a larger scale and saving money in Boston, take this on the road and start to schedule your national travel adventure based on the media packages you will do. Create a calendar to follow that goes spot to spot filming these media packages. (Complications with not having equipment and O probably wanting to stay in Boston).

Phase 4 of The Space Disco Project - I end up in California and open up the Café Disco // The Space Disco which is a space for us to do pretty much any creative or non-creative endeavor we want.

I think it’s interesting how Ava’s feelings about Las Vegas vs. Los Angeles reflects so much about her as a character. 

Ava hates the fact that she has to go to Vegas. She sees it as beneath her. LA is the cool place to be and, as she says, she’s obsessed with being cool and popular. She literally revels in the idea of being in LA again for her interview despite the fact that it doesn’t seem clear at all why LA should matter so much to her. 

She doesn’t have any friends there. She has a house in LA that she doesn’t live in and that she paid more than it was worth (I see what you did there, writers). She can’t even swim and she wants to live on the coast? The only person she connected with in LA, her ex-girlfriend, Ruby is a young, attractive, successful actress, the epitome of what people think of when they think of LA (Ava’s love interests also represent this dichotomy of places). In a way, Ruby is who Ava wishes she were. Put together, successful, kind-hearted, poised and making it in LA. But Ava only showed up as her worst self there as she said she was a self-centered asshole. In LA, it was all about networking and getting to the top, not about human connection. All she did was wing her way through things instead of actually buckling down and doing the hard work. To be clear, it’s not that Ava is too good for LA. She’s clearly not. It’s that she’s not her best self in LA. 

Deborah calls it when she says Ava never got to sit with the cool kids at the table and she never got over it. The cool kids table is Los Angeles and Ava keeps trying to figure out a way to sit there despite the fact that NO ONE wants her there and she’s miserable. 

I don’t know much about Vegas because I’m not from there, but I’ve heard this saying about being a Vegas freak. When I think of Las Vegas, I think of debauchery and spectacle. From what I’ve gathered, people outside of Vegas don’t have a good opinion on it. It’s only thought of as a place to go to party, not a place to live. In the show, they portray Las Vegas as if it was a quirky small town with a recurring cast of memorable characters. People who don’t fit in anywhere, belong in Vegas. Las Vegas, for Ava, is the losers’ table. 

But Vegas is where Ava truly grows. She learns what she’s capable of. There’s a recurring theme where they talk about how hot it is in Vegas as if they’re trying to say that Ava feels like she’s in a pressure cooker there. And because it’s a desert climate, most would not consider it an ideal place to live, but you can thrive if you persevere and invest in your relationships with other people. Ava didn’t invest in her relationships in LA and that’s why, when shit went wrong (as it always does), she had no one to rely on. But in Vegas, she shows kindness without the expectation of getting something in return (i.e. all her interactions with DJ). She actually connects with people there. Ruby, the person in LA Ava was the closest to, is to surprised to say Ava seems happy as if implying that Ruby has never seen Ava truly happy before. In contrast to Ruby representing LA, who is Ava’s other love interest who happens to be considered a Vegas legend? The one and only Deborah Vance. Part of the rejection of Vegas is packaged with rejecting being near Deborah. Ava doesn’t want to write jokes in the desert with some old hack. But of course, part of her acceptance of Vegas is also realizing how similar her and Deborah are and how they can make each other’s lives better. 

There is one other place mentioned in Ava’s arc and that’s Boston, where she grew up. You can see how sad and lonely Ava feels in Boston because of the grey palette. The only bright spot in Boston was her dad and now he’s gone. Boston is where we see Ava at her lowest and we find out how lonely she felt growing up. Ava’s insecurities started in Boston, so of course she doesn’t want to come back because she felt like dirt there. She went to LA trying to swing too far in the other direction as a response to the insecurities she developed in Boston and briefly in episode 10 she thinks her only option is to go back to Boston when she’s failed. But of course, we know there’s a third option (the best option for Ava): Las Vegas. 

This is a classic trope. A person comes into a town/city not wanting to be there and desperately wanting to leave, but they can’t and it turns out being there was exactly what they needed and they usually end up accepting that they are part of this community and decide to stay.

In classic character arc terms, she wants to be in LA and achieve success and status by any means necessary, but she needs to be in Vegas to focus on building something great and making real human connections. 

I think the completion of Ava’s character arc with come along with her saying, “I’m from Las Vegas” and being proud of that. The culmination of Ava’s character arc will be when she accepts the fact that she’s a Vegas freak.

Yes, you are not wrong, today is Thanksgiving and I'm sitting at our kitchen counter writing this. My family is having our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, so today I can relax and write out my thoughts on this Tumblr feed that no one will see lol.

Feel like I'm in a really good spot right now. I finished editing version 1 of the Martin DJ set and am pretty sure the Culnane DJ set is all set. Next thing to do is find a good background track for the interview, finish editing the Martin interview, coordinate the filming for the Culnane interview and then film another DJ package. In terms of day, I have to coordinate with Soni, Jordan (from Burning Wheel) and Zoe to get interviews / playlists created. I also should figure out what the best approach to the interviews would be and who / what I'm trying to get across. The way we conduct the interviews and the way we edit the interviews will be super intentional in order to help people the most. So this is fun creative thing #1 that I will release to the public closely after New Years.

Another fun creative thing stems from a conversation I had with Mass Music Radio the other day. An initial insight, before I make monumental change of environment and become the fun-loving, adventurous successful dog dad uncle, while still in Boston I should try to do as much as I can with this scene and the Boston resources I have. We were talking about a new segment on the MMR channel that has Tiny Desk energy, films band sets and dives into the indie scene in Boston. Nothing is planned or worked out on it yet, but it means the potential and possibilities are astronomical.

In February 2011, Radiohead released its eighth studio album The King of Limbs through XL Recordings. Work on the album began as early as 2009 with long time producer Nigel Godrich. The King of Limbs would be released initially as a download from their website, but then a physical CD or vinyl package would be available. For Record Store Day in 2011, the band released two bonus tracks for the album, “The Butcher” and “Supercollider. “ The tracks were made available for free to anyone who had previously purchased a copy of the record through their website. Radiohead also allowed anyone to remix any track from the album, which was later compiled into the album TKOL RMX 123456, which came out in September 2011. The only real promotion for the record came in the music video the band released for the song, “Lotus Flower.” The video became an Internet video meme as Thom Yorke danced uncontrollably in the clip. They also distributed a free newspaper to independent record stores, which included lyrics and artwork from the album. The group would not perform anything from the album live for several months. Critics seemed to enjoy The King of Limbs for the most part. The Boston Globe would say that “the tense calm these eight songs maintain—a composure that feels constantly ready to crack.” Pop Matters observed that the record is a much more difficult listen than anything they had ever released. “The King of Limbs is a beautiful record, one that begs more of a conscious listen than its predecessor, but one that provides equal – if different – thrills in doing so." Not all the reviews were filled with praise as Pitchfork noted that the band was doing nothing really that new on the album. New Musical Express observed that the work on The King of Limbs was excellent, but “rather than worship for its greatness.” Stereogum would go as far as to say that the live album they released The King of Limbs: From the Basement represented a better album than the original. One idea ran through several reviews in that the record completely divided listeners because of the influence of In Rainbows. Despite such negativity, the album would go on to be included on several end of the year best of lists including Guardian, Mojo, Pop Matters, New Musical Express, and Rolling Stone. At the 54th annual Grammy Awards, Radiohead would be nominated for several awards for the release. It's been far too long since we've demolished venues in America, we have had an awesome and productive break writing our new album "Catharsis", but now it's time for Machine Head to go melt some faces!!  The reaction to our last "Evening With" tours in America were nothing short of incredible, so once again these dates will be "Evening With" and will see us performing 2 1/2 to 3 hours every night with no opening bands.   We LOVED performing as an Evening With for you Head Cases, and you guys loved it as well, the freedom to do whatever the fuck we wanted for as long as we wanted every night was liberating.  It's not what everyone else is doing, and frankly, there are not a lot of bands who could even pull it off, but Machine Head CAN pull it off, and we are excited as fuck to do it again.  We are carving our own path here, playing by our own rules, and as an artist, it's the best feeling in the world!   No festivals period, no 45 minute slots, no supporting some stupid DJ, no parking lots in a rain storm, The Head will only be "Headlining", so come on down and rage!!" MACHINE HEAD recently wrapped up recording their 9th full-length album with Zack Ohren (FALLUJAH, ALL SHALL PERISH) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Three tours of the United States (with many dates sold out in advance), three tours of The U.K. / Europe, (including multiple dates in Russia and Greece), shows in Mexico and South America, a completely sold out run of 9 Australian / New Zealand shows, sold out dates in Japan, plus their first ever plays in Taiwan and Thailand, and all without any festival performances which the band publicly announced they would stop performing at in 2014.

Bloodstone & Diamonds debuted at #21 on the U.S. Billboard charts and has gone on to sell 285,000 copies worldwide.

MACHINE HEAD's latest track “Is There Anybody Out There?” released as a stand-alone, digital-only, non-album release became their #2 most streamed song ever on Spotify with 9 million streams in less than a year, and cracked the Top 40 on the Active Rock chart in the United States. It marks the first time for any Nuclear Blast artist to enter what is widely considered to be the “official rock chart” for the United States, and is significant considering there was no physical track sent to retail.
