Tunnels, Hallucinations, and the Yellow Door: A Convergence of Signs in DD 2 Episode Six

Hallucinations, tunnels, and the color yellow have all been used to symbolize reunions in the TWDU.  According to leaked script pages if you haven’t seen them here is a post with the name of the poster who originally posted the pages. In episode 6 of DD2, Daryl, Carol, Codron, and a couple named Angus and Fiona are in the Hoverport Tunnel which connects France and Great Britain. There is a toxin in the tunnel which soon has them hallucinating.

I believe this shot is of the glowing walkers in that tunnel and you can see the yellow door just off to the right.  

Codron hallucinates his dead brother, Michael. Carol hallucinates Sophia, and Daryl hallucinates Isabelle. The common denominator symbolically with all three are people they couldn't save. For the FIRST TIME since her “death” in Season 5, Daryl will say Beth’s name in that tunnel. Yes, it will be with Merle’s and Glen’s, but he has mentioned both of their names since their deaths.  He has never said Beth’s. The fact that he says her name again for the FIRST time in a decade, in a tunnel with prominent yellow doors, while in the midst of a hallucination is a TRIFECTA of reunion symbolism.

I am sure that many other of the brilliant TD theorists have written about these over the years. I just want to bring up some examples of hallucinations, tunnels, and the color yellow, symbolizing reunion in light of the episode 6 spoilers. I believe that anything that happens with one of Gimple' s "super couples" is especially significant, so Maggie/Glen and Rick/Michonne reunions will especially foreshadow the Daryl/Beth reunion.

Daryl’s hallucination in the tunnel parallels Michonne’s hallucinations in “What We Become”. JUST before discovering evidence that Rick is alive, Virgil gives Michonne a hallucinogenic tea. Michonne doesn’t hallucinate Rick or even about Rick but rather what would have happened to her if she had not found Team Family.

Daryl hallucinating Isabelle in episode 6 seems to be about the people whose loss haunts him the most. He tells Isabelle, “If you see Merle, or Beth, or Glen, tell them I tried.” To me this implies that he has been trying to honor their memories. In Merle’s case, he tries to honor the sacrifice he made for Team Family.  

Another example of a hallucination preceding finding someone once thought to be dead, is in “On the Inside” when Connie hallucinates due to lack of sleep just before she is found by Kelly and Carol. Carol finding Connie before Daryl will, I believe, parallel her encountering Beth first just like Grady.

The fact that Daryl is hallucinating in a TUNNEL is also significant as a precursor to a reunion. In Season 4, after being separated during the fall of the prison, Maggie and Glen are reunited in a TUNNEL. 

Daryl’s reunion with Leah(the anti-Beth) is another example. Daryl comes out of the D.C. Metro, an underground tunnel, and soon after sees Leah again for the first time in years.

If the convergence of those two signs weren’t enough, we have a third. This yellow door below is part of the tunnel set as seen above, but this BTS pic shows more detail.

The yellow jeep was seen multiple times and places on the DDS2 set.  In trailers we see Genet in it, but it could be used by Daryl/Carol at other points in the season. Since the jeep first appears before Daryl and Carol reunite, it could symbolize Daryl and Carol’s reunion. However, all of the episode 6 symbolism indicates another reunion soon to happen.  In TOWL episode four, the song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" by Tony Orlando and Dawn is playing. Traditionally, a yellow ribbon is tied to a tree in front of someone's home as a visual reminder of a loved one who is gone(not dead) that you would like to remember(usually someone serving overseas in a war). Once Michonne and Rick reunite emotionally, they leave together in a yellow truck intent on reuniting with their children.

Of course, yellow is strongly associated with Beth because of her polo shirt and the sunshine drawings all around the prison which were featured prominently in the WHWGO the episode after Coda.

****New spoiler ish stuff: According to Sarah Rowan on X, the first sets in Spain are being designed to look like England. So, if accurate, it would seem that Daryl and Carol walk through the tunnel and end up in Great Britain.  Season 3 may start in “England”, but quickly move to Spain. Zabel said in an interview that Daryl and Carol wind up in Spain due to some “cool and compelling” reasons. Regardless, based on the symbolism, whatever happens on the other side of that tunnel will lead Daryl to his reunion with Beth.

On a side note, I’ve seen some in the fandom worried that Emily is not in Spain right now.  Remember that she spent months in Europe this Spring.  I speculate that she was filming some for season 3. I wouldn’t expect her in Spain until about 4-6 weeks into filming, and even then, I am sure they will try to hide her.  It takes roughly 3 weeks to film an episode, and I am sure that much of episode 1 will be Daryl and Carol and how they get to Spain.

hello there! i’m not sure if anyone else has asked this but have you watched Little Krishna, Shaktimaan (live action or the animated one) or Chota Bheem?

Anon, I think you overestimate how young we are lol.

For reference sake, I am the youngest of the mods and I was officially too old to be watching Little Krishna when it was airing. Same thing with the animated Shaktimaan. Chota Bheem almost fell in the category of that time where I could have conceivably caught the first couple of years' worth of episodes HOWEVER, my family didn't have cable so the only channels we got were DD1 aka DD National (DD stands for Doordarshan, for anyone who's confused), DD News (formerly DD2 aka DD Metro). So yeah, basically I couldn't have watched them when they were airing.

Now, if we talk about the OG Shaktimaan show that was aired on DD National circa 1997-2005? Of course I watched it. Granted I was a wee babby and couldn't talk or speak for a good chunk of it but my elder sister was obsessed with that show (Shaktimaan and Junior G, in fact, if anyone even remembers the latter) so that meant my eyes also feasted upon that show by default.

This was a fun question, anon. No one had asked us this one before. And thanks to it, you got some mod S trivia lmao.

It's done...

Just beat the last case of Darkside Detective: Fumble in the Dark. I miss it already. DD has been one of my favorite games in the last decade, elbowing its way between Fallout 4, Starfield, Wytchwood, Metro: Exodus, and a bunch of other incredible games.

It's just that good. I'm not sure how McQueen would feel chilling with Artym, Isaac, and the Sole Survivor, but he deserves a place there.

Now I can't run into spoilers. Woo!

But seriously Wesley's conversation with the judge 😭😭, and him seeing him dead? Oh and his conversation with the lady, like he had tears in his eyes for each one I think! This is such a good time for a fic xD. I keep coming up with ideas and never writing them lol, and I have auditions in a week so I probably won't write one (right now it's just a vague concept, similar to the others - straight up Wesley angst with some wopez thrown in xD), but maybe I'll have time lol.

Also Tim in Metro 🥳🥰. And Angela being amazing lol, especially in that scene with Metro xD. Plus, Tamara :DDD. And Lucy trying to help Aaron xD. And of course, Nolan and Celina (and Bailey) with the firefighter case! I was having 9-1-1 flashbacks on that one lol XD. Anyway, I loved the whole episode, and this kinda turned into more of a review than I meant lol. But, my original point was: I'M FREAKING OUT.

這是第一天的遊記本來約了八點在荔景.唉呀.怎麼到了八點三仲未到.有危險嗎.打電話去.嘩.還沒收拾好.還要八點半.

好.在荔景等到八點半.仲未到?嘩.還沒下樓.趕不切了.打上去.要求三十五分到地鐵.時間一分一秒的過.三十五.四十.四十五.嘩.飛機是日航的JL730.起飛時間十點十分.依照慣例應在起飛前一個半小時到機場.但是現在還少過九十分鐘.趕不切了.

終於在八點五十分下來了.嘩.昨天晚上沒有收拾好就睡著了.今天早上起床才收拾.當然遲了.於是二人手拿一個行李.背上一個包包.走了.(其實應該一星期前開始把想帶的東西放入行李箱內.這樣便可給自己時間逐日想起遺留放入箱的東西.那便不需早一晚拾不完.又怕自己忘記帶甚麼.其實早知要這樣做.但........講來講去都是DD最衰.點解要咁趕住去.如果十二月六日去就可以多一個週末收拾.肯定好過現在很多.WUWUWUWU) 沒辦法.立刻坐地鐵東涌線去青衣.這次頗快.只是在青衣站出閘後頗為費時.才找到了機場快線.咦.電梯不是向下走的嗎.怎麼是向上走的.走上兩層.終於找到了機場快線入口.還要去提款機.拿那六千元還我嗎.趕不切了.況且我帶著港幣六千去東京也沒用.算了吧.等了不夠一分鐘.機鐵來了.因為青衣是尾二站.所以車上很多人.差不多滿了.好不容易才找到兩個分開的位子.

行了大概十五分鐘.到了機場.嘩.九點半.還有四十分鐘上機.立刻排隊.嘩.日航都幾多人.打了三個蛇餅.(REALLY YOU HAVE COUNT IT?)有排才到.咦.怎麼有人大叫的.喔.是因為十點十分飛機的人絕大部分已經登記了.只差幾個人.所以開了另一個櫃位給我們這些遲來的人.於是辦理登機.行李季艙.因為經濟客位只有一個行李可以免費寄艙.於是二人各自寄了那個急.還想去吃大家樂.空姐叫我們不用去了.因為要立刻過海關.還有.電子機票差點忘了拿.還是空姐追還.過了海關.還不算是多人.唔.辦完過關手續.還有時間吧.吃一個早餐吧.大家樂好多人呀.排到.拿到那些餐之後已經是九點四十五分.還有二十分鐘.趕快吃完吧.

好了.九點十一個字.吃完了.走呀.下了電梯.作上電車去四十一閘口.剛上了樓梯.就聽到空姐大叫還有沒有JL730的人呀.原來他們都上機了.還說飛機在起飛五分鐘前關閘.於是跑呀跑.(空姐說趕不切了.要跑呀.不過她跑得真快.)趕上了這次���機.

第一日 酒店2006/12/2 10:10-17:30

 好了.上了機.因為我們是最後兩個人上機.所以全部窗口位給人霸了.我們只能坐在中間.真的是中間.左右兩邊都有日本人.左邊的比較正常.斯斯文文的.右邊的似PUNK佬.頭髮長長.留鬚.(咦.我也不是常常給公司人說頭髮長長嗎?難道我也是PUNK佬?)不過相處落都很好.除了間中BEAR下我們兩個香港人外沒有其他.我坐在PUNK佬旁.好快.早餐還沒落格.而午餐卻在十二點上了.結果我門打包了麵包.牛油.奇華曲奇餅.其他如沙律.生果等包不下.沒拿走.我門太遲入閘.沒有窗口位.只能坐在中間位.有兩個日本人夾在中間.好悶.唯有看地圖.旅遊書.KK看手繪.提了幾個地方.其中一個是買化妝品.護膚品.在原宿.AINZ ????甚麼的.(唔記得有沒有在飛機上睡着了?)旅途還好.填了入境紀錄卡.我帶了15萬來.KK帶了9萬.會剩多少?飛到三點十分落機了.立刻就出閘. 還好. 頗為順利. 立刻又要趕出去.因為要搭上三點五十八分的SKYLINER一出去 . 已經差不多三點三十五分了. 當然立刻去找車出去新宿酒店. 這次我們選了SKYLINER. 因為平. 1920円.好過NARITA EXPRESS 雖然直達新宿.要成3110円(其實可以坐京成電鐵本線. 即係地鐵.好似我老細咁. 只須1000円.不過要企成個鐘. )

還好.京成電鐵買票處有很好的指示.(京成電鐵跟SKYLINER是同一集團經營.所以買票處是一樣的.可是別買錯了電鐵的飛喔.)第一次使用日圓.感覺還好.不過男售票員木口木面.英文還好.不過我們要買2張飛.一張SKYLINER由機場到JR日暮里.一張JR由日暮里到新宿.合共每人2110円.買了飛.第一次入閘.我手上有兩張飛.一張是SKYLINER.一張是電車飛.由日暮里到新宿.那一張才可入閘?我想我門現在上SKYLINER.當然用貴那一張SKYLINER(1920) .結果不行.票務員英文不好.仍努力解釋.應該用JR那一張.那麼SKYLINER那一張就是不能用在入閘了.沒用了.三點四十二分我們就在月台上.一班車來了.那個款一看就知道是地鐵.所以沒有上.下一班車來了.就是日本旅遊書所看到的那種.其實地鐵(京成本線)跟機場快線(SKYLINER)車樣子差不多.都是紅藍線條.不過SKYLINER車頭是尖的.全身白色.而地鐵是方形車頭.銀色.於是就上對了車了.可是我們座位是七號車廂.禁煙車廂.不過沒有人.不理了.等到三點五十八分.skyliner開車了.一望就發現只有三成上座率.仲要係禮拜六呀.不要緊了.總之上了車.影張相先.沿途經過很多地方.要在一個小時才到JR日暮里站.先影相吧.不過我阻止KK影相.因為怕不夠菲林嘛.最後三崔四請下.最後十分鐘拿出攝錄機.影了五分鐘.而相機長期交給KK.KK:影相吧.DD:唔好住.(點解?)

好了.SKILINER到了日暮里站.立刻轉JR.又用了190元比我想像中好.起碼沒有甚麼問題.只是拖著行李走上一層樓.往後這幾天.我們就會用東京最常用的JR(JAPAN RAILWAY).都營地下鐵.東京METRO這三大交通工具在市內走.通稱作電車吧.很快找到淺綠色的山手線月台(月台尾).就在月台最遠的地方.剛好是5點正.

不過車上好多人.禮拜六嘛.卒之逼了半小時.到了新宿站.跟著點?不理甚麼總之先上路面先.千萬不要在車站裡面亂行.因為新宿站好鬼大.隨時走錯一步有排返轉頭.(咦還記得有一PAIR男女含着香口膠.看著我們手一箱.背一包的旅行樣.我後邊更有一架BB車.前進不得.後退又不能的情況.大家就逼在一圈.咦.前面PAIR男女不斷說美麗.哈哈.一定是說我了.)梗係講你了.不過我們二人很突出.因為是星期六.地鐵好多人出去玩.逼滿整個車廂.所以我們兩個行李都好A-JA)

好彩.一出竟然是小田急百貨.即係新宿西口出口.咁好彩都有的?立刻出站口.還不是太冷.應該有10-11度吧於是拖著行李直行.沿途發現新宿真的很多人.因為根據地圖.出了西口只要直行到了.直到吉野家轉左就係了. 又好好彩.俾我望見了吉野家.然後向左望.隱約在對面馬路左前方看見灰黃色的大廈.就係飛鳥酒店了.於是拖著行李又走過對面馬路.(有沒有英文名字?)(當然有.仲好出名的.因為機場裏女入境處關員都問我.你住飛鳥嗎?)(聽電台說VINTAGE好猛鬼)(我們當然不住VINTAGE.因為在歌舞伎町裏.好雜.就算不多色情佬.還有很多醉酒佬.咦.唔通我會錯意.關員想說:飛鳥仲猛.你地夠膽去住?)

轉過了7-11.發現了灰黃色大廈.但沒有門牌.真的沒有門面的酒店.而大堂還在地下1層.問了原來是用密碼鎖.立刻上了808號房.還好.雙人床房還算OK.先收拾一下再出去了.時間五點五十分.

Egy londont teljesen átívelő metro line-t kevesebb időből sokkal modernebben, szebben 6x hosszabb vonalon(42km, de 100-ra bővítik...a 4-es metro 7,4km) megcsinálták. És nem ázik be, nem esik szét....de ők a hanyatlósok meg a hülyék..tudod :DD "Rendet teremtünk a BKV-n" Szóljatok a szagértőnek, hogy kezdje azzal, hogy felmos a Gestapo helyett!! :DD
