Exterior paint colors for 2024
Here’s how exterior paint colors up-level your home!
Ready…set…renovate! It’s amazing the way that a fresh coat of paint can transform your Los Angeles home. Whether your planning to paint your exterior or interior space we have got some insight on the paint color trends for 2024.
Before we dive into the top trending exterior paint colors, we wanted to share helpful information about exterior paint color schemes.
Ideally, an exterior paint scheme should have three major parts: a field color that dominates, an accent color that brings shutters, doors, and other smaller parts to life, and the trim color. Once you have chosen a unique and appealing combination of field and trim, make it stand out with an eye-catching accent color. Here’s a great example of creating that exterior paint color scheme. Notice in the after picture how the accent color pops around the archways of the windows, adding depth and character to the design. If you're considering a full exterior transformation, whether it’s with paint or more extensive work like adding a deck, it's essential to work with experts. For those in the area, finding custom deck builders near me in Los Angeles can complement your exterior color scheme perfectly, providing a cohesive look to your home’s facade.
Ready for your Pro-tip? Here’s a list of the popular exterior paint colors for 2024:
The top choice is Gray. Gray is currently trending as the most popular paint color for both exterior painting and interior painting projects.
Next is Beige. A great way to stay neutral with your paint colors. Beige is also popular for both exterior and interior painting.
Now, let’s talk about Brown. An Earth tone Brown is a great choice for your exterior painting project. Still keeping to that neutral paint color trend.
Keeping with the natural Earth tones next up we have Green. Depending on the intensity you choose Green can be natural and a great choice for both interior and exterior painting projects.
Final on the list we have Navy Blue. Navy Blue is, of course, less of a natural color however it makes a very regal impact for curb appeal.
Make sure you look to your general contractor to provide you with a proper estimate as well as suggestions as to what would be the best exterior paint color for your Los Angeles home.
Let your unique style shine through!
Let’s unpack another interesting trend. Despite all we hear about the value of a fresh coat of paint to raise a property’s resale price, only 4% of homeowners paint for that reason. Most Los Angeles homeowners paint their homes because they want took create a different look, pure and simple. Since painting is one method that is recommended for making your home look more luxurious and paint can quickly transform a tired-looking room, it makes sense that many homeowners want to use exterior paint to update their spaces. So, the main reason homeowners decide to paint is a personal preference rather than external factors, such as increasing the value of a house or preparing it for resale. For some Los Angeles homeowners, the idea of investing out of pocket into exterior painting or renovation projects may not seem like a possibility. Keep in mind that with Structura Remodeling, no job is too small, and there is always an opportunity to apply for financing by Structura Remodeling. With over 16 years of industry experience, Structura Remodeling is here to help you dream…design… and build your perfect Los Angeles home.

5 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Plantation Shutters in Los Angeles
If you're considering plantation shutters for your home in Los Angeles, you're making a great choice. Plantation shutters offer a range of benefits, including enhancing the appearance of your home, providing privacy, and controlling the amount of light that enters your rooms. But with so many options available, choosing the right plantation shutters can feel overwhelming. In this article, we'll provide tips on choosing plantation shutters for your home in Los Angeles.

Consider the style of plantation shutters.
Plantation shutters come in various styles, including full height, café style, and tier-on-tier. Full-height shutters cover the entire window, while café style shutters only cover the bottom portion of the window. Tier-on-tier shutters consist of two sets of shutters, one on top of the other, allowing for greater control over light and privacy. Consider which style will work best for your home and your needs.
Choose a suitable material.
Plantation shutters are typically made from wood, vinyl, or composite materials. Wood shutters offer a classic and elegant look, while vinyl shutters are more durable and moisture-resistant. Composite shutters combine wood and synthetic materials, offering the best of both worlds. Consider each material's durability, moisture resistance, and style before deciding.

Look for customization options.
Plantation shutters can be customized to fit your specific needs and preferences. Consider color, louver size, tilt options, and more. Look for a business that offers a range of customization options to ensure you get precisely what you want.
Choose a reputable business.
When choosing a business to work with for your plantation shutters, be sure to choose a reputable one. Look for companies that specialize in plantation shutters and have a track record of quality service and customer satisfaction. Read reviews and ask for referrals to ensure you're working with a trusted business.

Get professional installation.
While plantation shutters are relatively easy to install, having them professionally installed is still essential. Professional installation can ensure that your shutters are secure and functioning correctly and help prevent damage to your windows.
In conclusion, choosing the right plantation shutters in Los Angeles can feel overwhelming. Still, by considering the style, material, and customization options, choosing a reputable business, and getting professional installation, you can ensure that you get high-quality window treatments that meet your unique needs and preferences.

Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction - Los Angeles - June 29th, 30th, & July 1st, 2021 06/29/2021 9:00 AM PDT: Lot # 74: EVIL DEAD II (1987) - Cabin Model Miniature.
If you have around 20-30 thousand dollars lying around then you can possib ly acquire this original cabin miniature from Evil Dead 2. You can bid at the link above.
This lot will be auctioned on Tuesday, June 29th. The auction will begin at 9:00am PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on June 30th or July 1st. A cabin model miniature from Sam Raimi's supernatural horror film Evil Dead II. Miniature cabins were used in several special effects sequences, including the stop-motion scene when Linda's (Denise Bixler) corpse danced for Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) and the "tree attack" sequence which Campbell directed himself. Two cabins are known to have been built for the film. While a "forced perspective" version of the cabin was built by modelmaker James Belohovek, this non-forced perspective model was constructed by Robert "Bob" Dyke's visual effects group Magic Lantern Productions, and used primarily in the climactic tree attack finale. According to Dyke, the miniature was constructed with boards over the windows which could be moved when additional lighting was needed, and with no floor in order to allow Campbell to orchestrate more elaborate camera set-ups. In its current state, the model features the same boards that were in place for its final shots. This cabin is constructed of wood, metal, and foam with black fabric mesh in some of the windows. Like the full-size cabin, it features shuttered windows, a front deck, and a carved foam chimney painted to resemble stone. The entire model is heavily distressed by production to match the damage that the cabin had taken by that point in the film, including two large holes in the front door, a broken chimney top, and the boarded windows. The interior features wiring and electronic elements from an internal lighting setup. Also included is a Letter of Authenticity from Dyke. It is in good overall condition with some wear from production and age, including broken edges on the roof and chips in the wood. The model ships in a custom-made crate requiring special shipping arrangements. Dimensions: 54" x 38" x 26" (137.25 cm x 96.75 cm x 66.25 cm) Contains electronic components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide. Special shipping required; see notice in the Buyer's Guide. Estimate: $20,000 - 30,000

Today I left the house wearing a face mask for the first time.
I had woken up to the sound of heavy rain, which is always surreal in Los Angeles, and when I look out of the window to the hauntingly dehumanising sight of bandana-clad dog walkers, an eerie weight settles as I remember: this is our reality now.
I’m standing in the supermarket queue, a line dotted by crosses taped on the floor of the underground car park to signify our designated 6ft distance. Easily 50 people long and snaking around the perimeter of the building, I make my way to the last available X-marks-the-spot and join the other masked Bandits. I haven’t food shopped for over a week and am in need of supplies.
There is an obnoxiously loud man two crosses ahead of me ranting into his phone with such a high energy, the surrounding Bandits have allowed an extended social distance of a cross on either side of him. I sigh, remembering I’ve left my headphones at home, so am unable to tune him out, I wait and exhale, wondering how I am going to get used to the claustrophobic sensation of hot air and fabric condensing on my face.
Loud Phone Man is not wearing a mask and it's clear we’ve passed the tipping point of mild judgement, at least here in LA, where Bandits exchange a raised eyebrow, (about the only non-verbal Bandit communication available) which somehow magnifies the annoyance of this shopper - not only loud, but breathing indiscriminately all over us in this confined space… what does he think this is? Last week??
It’s Monday on #Week4 of Covid-19 lockdown in La La Land and as I shuffle to the next X I reflect on the journey so far.
After a whirlwind press tour to promote the release of Misbehaviour in UK cinemas (sadly cinemas were shuttered just days after the film's theatrical release – but it's available to watch online at home from April 15th!) I returned to work in Atlanta for Loki, the Marvel limited series for Disney Plus I’ve been working on, so am on set when I get the news that we are going on hiatus as a precaution due to the accelerating coronavirus, initially for one week. Thinking it would be longer, but still unsure at that point, I book a flight to LA to sit things out there for the time being. The next day Trump imposes a travel ban on travelling in or out of the US for 30 days, and with my visa situation and the pace at which everything is moving, it feels risky to fly to the UK in case I cannot get back into the country when filming recommences, whenever that will be.
So, with my housemate and her dog for company, we embark on social distancing, self-isolation and Lady Macbeth-level hand-washing.
Managing a constant low-level anxiety about my parents and loved ones, and friends in New York, London, Johannesburg and all over the world, I become consumed by the news, glued to the BBC website and KCRW talk radio for the latest figures. Like families gathered around “the wireless” in wartime, everything is unfolding so rapidly and the news, never this dramatic in my lifetime, takes on disaster-movie proportions.
FaceTime and WhatsApp become my lifelines as the reality of the pandemic is tinged with a weird detachment… a numbness I later realise was a form of shock that lasts for nearly two weeks and puts me into a hyper-focused state as I race to keep up, stay informed and learn how to adapt to this new rhythm.
I am of course aware that I am so privileged to be safe and personally unaffected thus far, but grasping the truth from what is overblown, and fact from politics and propaganda, give everything an out-of-body zero gravity quality; a new normal we are all united in.
Things are kicking off in the food line as my attention is caught by an exasperated Valley Girl three Xs ahead who finally explodes at Loud Phone Man, “ OH MY GAAAAD, USE YOUR INSIDE VOICE, CANT YOU SEEEEE EVERYONE IS LOOKING AT YOU CAUSE YOU’RE TALKING SO LOUD… WE ALL HAVE TO STAND HERE, OHMYGAAAD!” As she stomps her Ugged feet to the next X the security guard and smiling store employee (no mask) approach and I can feel a repressed inside-voice-cheer emanate from the rest of the line in applause.
The Bandit Couple ahead of me raise another eyebrow in solidarity and Female Bandit begins to capture a video of Loud Phone Man on her iPhone. The air gets thin, the energy tightens, “Hey Man,” Smiling Store Employee intercepts, Security guard flanking, “You wanna keep it down a bit, people are stressed, y’know? Thanks Man.” Valley Girl scowls, Bandit couple exchange glances, while still filming, Loud Phone Man defends, “I WASN’T EVEN TALKING THAT LOUUUUUD!!!” (Collective Bandit eyeroll) “YESSSSS YOU WERE!!!” Hisses Valley Girl, “Yeah Man, sorry you were,” Store Employee placates. taking the referee stance. I notice Loud Phone Man is wearing flip-flops, on a rainy day. He continues his conversation into his device, phone held to his lips, like a dictaphone, barely any quieter. “We have to be prepared…”
I sigh and feel warm breath on my cheeks. Mouth drying I look at my phone for escape and see that Boris Johnson has been admitted into intensive care for persistent and worsening Covid-19 symptoms. I suddenly feel very far from home and very sad.
I remember the things I’ve been doing to keep grounded and my spirits up. One of the benefits of turning out old cupboards was rediscovering my long dormant art materials. Painting, such an absorbing and transporting activity for me in childhood, was once something I considered doing instead of acting, but found it a little socially isolating - so acting won because it felt more collaborative. Now, of course, painting in isolation is perfect and becomes the most comforting of pastimes and a creative channel as I make images of my family and feel like I am spending time with them.
Understanding how superfluous actors are in a crisis such as this, I come to terms with the fact that staying at home, as passive as it may seem, is my contribution for now. Having the luxury of not having to home-school any children and knowing my work is pretty much on pause until social distancing recedes, I try to reframe this time as a chance to rest and refill the creative well. I read novels for pleasure, something I rarely find time for beyond work-related reads. I take my first Zoom yoga class (alexdawsonyoga.com), I join a 21-day online meditation experience (chopracentermediation.com), I take local hikes for fresh air and make first ever batches of banana bread and chicken soup. I even buy a mini trampoline online which, after a mildly challenging self-assembly, I’ve been sweating it out on to streamed classes online (lekfit.com) with a friend in Toronto, followed by accountability FaceTime coffee dates to virtually high five!
By the end of week two, the adrenalin crash truly hits and I’m exhausted from the constant rhythm shifting, news consumption and uncertainty. I’m an eternal optimist and good at self-motivating, but even when you’re Keeping Calm and Carrying on, you need to crash at some point. I nearly cry when I get my mum an Ocado food delivery slot - nothing has been available for weeks - and the “what ifs” that I have been keeping at bay with all my other activities release with relief and gratitude.
That’s when I discover Brené Brown’s new podcast Unlocking Us and find such solace in her calm and thoroughly researched words and conversations. Since her TED talk fame as a charismatic shame and vulnerability researcher, I’ve read all of her books and there is always something practical and nourishing in her work, told with humour and in a deeply relatable way - which I’ve found comfort in while in the midst of folding laundry, cleaning the bath or chopping vegetables.
Back in the food line and things are moving; the tension of the Loud Phone Man Vs Valley Girl dispute still simmers but everyone relaxes as they get closer to the front-door finish line. Smiling Store Employee does his speech on the new system: no reusable bags allowed, sanitised trollies and a one-way system in the aisles inside marked by arrows on the floor, to minimise contact with other customers. It all feels so surreal and regimented, but the Bandits, already drained from the 30-minute wait, constant Loud Phone Man soundtrack, near car park fight and everything else they’re all adjusting to, nod wearily behind their moist makeshift masks. It’s a bizarre sight.
Still chatting, Loud Phone Man makes it in and there’s a collective “phew” eye-contact exchanged between Smiling Store Employee and the remaining Bandits. Then his smile drops and crinkles for a second. “Yeah, he’s been in every day this week. It’s kinda sad. There’s no one on the phone.” The Bandits' brows knot quizzically. “Yeah, I think he has mental health issues, he just talks but the phone’s not on and he has no ear pieces, he just talks into it… 'They’re coming, we have to be prepared.'… I don’t know what to do.”
The reality breaks my heart. It seems to highlight the collective insanity we’ve all been processing and in that moment I just feel so frustrated at the state of the world and how this pandemic has exposed so many cracks in our society - from mental health to healthcare to privilege and poverty, everything just feels so raw.
I try to look for the silver linings and, among all the fear and anxiety and loss, I’ve been so inspired by human resilience, adaptability and creativity. I’m hopeful this great pandemic leveller will bring a new era of authenticity. An opportunity to shift mentality from Me to We.
Week three in self-isolation felt almost normal, which feels weird to admit. I’m getting lots of sleep and take regular meditative baths, which I’ve renamed Home Spa. I’ve found ways to safely contribute in my local community. When the shelves were bare from panic buying, I chatted with the manager of our local grocery store, who seemed so overwhelmed, so my housemate and I volunteered to stack shelves after hours. Although not exactly the front lines, we have fun and it feels good to give something back in our small way.
We of course negotiated to be paid in baked beans and toilet paper.

A Sunday in February

summary: a little pre-Grammys snacc for you, my friends. Shawn and Emma return. and because it’s me, it doesn’t come easy.
warnings: language, Georgie Being Georgie (TM)
WC: 1845
On a Sunday in February, Emma wakes up with a start. She awakes out of a dream, the kind you don’t remember as soon as your eyes open but you want to chase after it, pick it apart, separate it into little piles to analyze. It was an important dream.
She sits up slowly, careful of her aching muscles. She went a little too hard at Pilaticardio yesterday the same way she’s been doing everything at 150% lately, like putting even more effort into her daily life will somehow secure her the Grammys she’s nominated for.
Best Country Song. Best Country Album. Album of the Year.
She hasn’t even let herself think those phrases since she first heard them associated with her name. She’s not even superstitious. Or… she wasn’t.
There’s a creaking sound. Emma squints at the door. She beams.
+
“... and sometimes the rain has gotta fall.”
Emma felt that one. She doesn’t even look up at her producer Erin, just grips the music stand and leans back, taking a deep breath away from the mic.
“Perfect, Em. That was perfect,” says the voice in her headphones. She nods shakily. She knows.
Running her tongue along her lower lip, she slides her enormous phone out of her too-small pocket. No texts. With a cool bobbing of her head, she slides her phone back in her pocket.
“Should I go again?” she asks.
+
Georgie steps inside with a breakfast tray. She wastes no time clambering up onto Emma’s bed. The plate she bears is dotted with silver dollar pancakes surrounding a misshapen blob in the center. Emma lifts her eyebrows and before she can begin to speak, Georgie rolls her eyes and huffs.
“Ok, listen, so I bought this pancake form online, right? I ordered it from Etsy from this chick who can make, like, whatever your heart desires. So, obviously, I ordered the Grammys trophy, ya know, the little gold record player thingy? But when you try to make a pancake of that it comes out all… fucking weird.”
By the end of her sentence, Emma is cackling. She’s forgotten all about her dream. She slings an arm around her sister’s shoulders and picks the pancake up with her fingers, biting into what should be the base of the record player, wiggling her eyebrows.
“You’re the most beautiful moron I’ve ever seen,” Emma assures her through a bite of an otherwise very well made pancake. Georgie burrows into Emma’s side with a blushing chuckle.
“At least I have that going for me.”
+
Shawn’s hand slips off the cool metallic window frame. The heel of his hand butts into the window and he steps forward to right himself with a gasp. His already heaving chest feels like it’s cracking in half, so, Shawn supposes, this might as well happen.
He doubles over, planting his hands on his knees as he pants. He hangs his head, slams his eyes shut and tries to imagine her and what she’s doing right now.
It’s 4am in Los Angeles. Emma is sleeping for at least another two hours. She’s in that big bed all alone, probably curled up on her side like she does in the summer when she keeps her bedroom too cold. In the winter, she cranks up the heat, splays out like a starfish, sweating into the sheets. And she never learns.
Thinking of her calms him through this, this… whatever it is. Calling her, hearing her voice would end it completely.
But he can’t.
+
Emma sits up so the woman putting makeup on her neck can sweep down into her decolletage. The stereo is blasting “Kerosene” by Miranda Lambert so loud the makeup artists have given up on trying to yell over it -- they’ve developed their own sign language. Emma’s distracted, chewing on the inside of her lip while her butter blonde hair is blown out into big, fat curls -- less Dolly Parton, more Victoria’s Secret Angel. Her instructions this time, not Sandra’s.
Georgie and Angelique stand behind her, both on their phones, both bobbing their heads to the music at exactly the same time. Neither of them has noticed yet. Emma watches in her vanity mirror with a shimmering grin.
+
Emma heaves a sigh before the voicemail beeps. “Hi. I guess you’re asleep. That’s ok. I mean, it’s fine. I should really be asleep too. Just… wanted to hear your voice. You know how I get. I’m fine, though. Don’t freak out and feel like you have to call the second you wake up. Because I know how you can get too.
“It’s just… a lot. The Grammy thing. You’ve lived through this. And it’s fine, clearly you recovered. I’m sure I’m overthinking it. That’s what we do, though, right? We’re musicians. We… feel things. God, I’m not even making sense. Ok. Listen. I love you. You’re the best. Hopefully I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
“Bye, Taylor.”
+
As they wait for the limo to arrive, Emma’s focusing on remembering not to chew on her bottom lip because it’s painted with red lacquer more carefully than Michelangelo painted the Sistine fuckin’ Chapel. Her phone buzzes.
Hey little girl! Got your voicemail. So sorry I can’t call. I know where you are. I’ve been where you are. You think you’re on top of a mountain. After all, how could you not be at the top? Three Grammy noms on your first studio album as a solo country artist. How much higher can you climb? I got news for you, kid. You’re not on top of the mountain. You just found the first place with a kickass view. So what do you do? Stop and look around for a minute. The rest of the mountain isn’t going anywhere, it never has. It’s waiting for you. So take a look. It’s beautiful up there.
P.S. check the surrounding rocks for the initials T.A.S. carved in. We all gotta leave our mark somehow.
Love you back.
+
Shawn’s head buzzes against the window with the vibration of the moving car. Anna elbows him, reminds him he’s wearing foundation on his forehead because he’s been breaking out. Nerves, and all.
He nods and pulls his head back but continues staring out the window. His knee has been bouncing for at least a half hour as they wait in the line of cars crawling toward the red carpet.
He’s been on who knows how many red carpets by now. He’s never been more anxious than he is right now.
And he knows exactly why.
+
Georgie hums in Emma’s ear about holding her phone in her bag. Emma hands it off, nodding. All she’d be doing is scrolling through early red carpet arrivals, anyway. She’s not expecting to hear from anyone else.
She’s in a custom blood red Christian Siriano. It looks like someone poured liquid satin down her body and let it drop into a train of shimmering fabric with a slit up to her thigh. Sandra would’ve said it’s too old for her. Margaret would’ve said red’s not her color.
Emma pats a curl back into place and smirks down at her strappy red sandals and red clutch.
Emma chooses what is and isn’t her color now. Tonight, red’s her color.
Maybe gold too.
+
Shawn lifts a hand out of his pocket and draws his fingers up into a peace sign. His smirk lifts into a full smile, but it’s a little dull, half-hearted. He feels like he can’t walk two steps down the red carpet without glancing back down toward the arrivals area.
His heart beats a pounding rhythm in his ears, so loud it mercifully drowns out the crew of paps screaming “SHAWN! SHAWN!” for just a bite of his attention. He keeps one fidgeting hand in the pocket of his midnight black slacks and turns on the heel of his patent leather shoes.
If Emma saw them, she’d say they “shiiiiiiine like the top of the Chrysler building.” She quoted “Annie” whenever she could.
There’s a flurry of energy at arrivals. Shawn glances back.
+
Yasmin takes one more puff of powder to Emma’s face and another swipe of gloss across her lips. Georgie is talking Emma’s ear off, but she can barely hear it over the roar of camera snaps, fan cheers and event organizers barking at each other.
Angelique is talking, too. Emma just stares at her with her “I’m listening” face.
But she’s not. She’s not listening to Georgie, not listening to the pinging of her phone in her clutch, not listening to Yasmin as she reminds her what angles to hit and what jewelry she’s wearing.
The door to the limo opens. The sound gets louder. It doesn’t matter.
Everyone is looking inside. That, Emma’s used to. She’s even used to the noise. But she’s not used to this feeling, the one that’s got her hair standing on end and her shoulders tensed like she’s the slut in a horror movie and she’s first on the kill list.
She scoots to the end of the seat closest to the door and ignores that maybe it’s her Sandra-enforced training that’s getting her out of the limo and not instead ralphing into a plastic bag a block away outside an In-n-Out.
She puts a leg out first, then extends her hand to the greeter as she ducks her head to save her flossy curls.
Somehow, like rom-com queen Nora Ephron herself designed it this way, she knows it’s him as soon as she feels his hand take hers. She freezes and turns her head, eyes wide, lips parted.
Shawn, looking wild eyed and sweaty with a grin plastered on his beautiful, miraculous face, helps her out of the car amidst crazed, unrelenting fan shrieks, shutter snapping and paparazzi calls.
“SHAWN! SHAWN! EMMA! LOOK THIS WAY!”
Emma can’t feel her legs, but she’s standing on them with her hand in his, dumbfounded for all the world to see.
“How…?” she gasps, ribs shuddering with her aching lungs.
Shawn smirks in that warm, mischievous way he does. “C’mon, Em, you didn’t really think I’d miss this.”
Emma swallows a sob. She lifts her shaking free hand to her face as her lips quiver. Georgie smiles from inside the limo, swiping through the silenced notifications on her sister’s phone --
Shawn Mendes makes surprise appearance at 2020 Grammys! -- The Hollywood Reporter
*Le GASP!* Shawn Mendes Shocks the Grammy Red Carpet! -- Perez Hilton
Sometimes the rain’s gotta fall down, but not today! Shawn Mendes makes a surprise appearance on the red carpet to support his ladylove, 3x Grammy nominated country singer Emma Kingston! -- E! News
With a devious shake of her head (and a wink out the door at Shawn, her co-conspirator), Georgie slips out the other door and offers Angelique a sly high five.
Shawn cups his big hands around Emma’s face and doesn’t even bother to look her up and down before he says, “You look incredible.”
Emma sinks her fingers into Shawn’s forearms and whimpers into his lips before she can even finish getting out the words, “I love you.”
The cameras flash. The girls shriek. The heads turn.
The whole world watches, but they can’t see inside. That’s just for them.

New Year, New Beautiful Homes of Instagram
Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you in 2019? Did anything happen? Did a switch turn on, bringing more Light into your heart during this first week of this New Year? It’s been terribly cold, gloomy and dark out there. The weather is miserable and it’s easy to feel the winter blues insistently knocking on my door, but I am not opening it… instead, I decided to take a small break during the Holidays to do what I love the most in life; which is spending time with my family and work whenever I feel inspired. I took a small break and I am finally feeling like myself again… nothing makes you feel more centered than being able to slow down and hear your own thoughts, and that was exactly what I did.
During this New Year, I certainly hope to continue to listen to what’s inside of my heart and that goes to what I want to share with you here on Home Bunch. I have to be completely honest with you guys. I am tired of cold homes, everything looks the same these days. Although I will always bring the latest trends to my readers, one of my main goals this year is to share homes that feel more like real homes, homes that have character and feel loved, and that starts with this year’s first “Beautiful Homes of Instagram”. Please, get to know Erin from The Heart and Haven. She’s someone that will inspire you to transform your current home into your “home-sweet-home”!
Hi, my name is Erin @theheartandhaven and I’m a home renovator, home décor enthusiast and mother. I have always enjoyed staring at all the pretty things, but I never realized how much joy I would find in creating them until my husband and I bought a 1950s fixer upper about five years ago.
My husband and I are high school sweethearts from the Jersey Shore. We dated long-distance throughout college and upon graduation, we decided to move across the country to start our life together in Los Angeles. I worked in television before deciding to become a stay at home mom when I had my first son. I now have two boys, ages 7 and 4.
After getting married, we purchased a newly-built, builder-grade condo in Los Angeles and while the finishes were not exactly my taste, I was excited to just have a place to call our own and honestly never thought about changing anything. Two years after having my son and really craving some private outdoor space to have him run around, we searched our neighborhood to find a house. We found a corner house only a few blocks away on a beautiful, wide tree-lined street. It was custom built in 1950, and nothing had been updated since then. The house was head- to-toe covered in orange wood (floors, ceilings, walls, you name it!). The bathrooms had parquet linoleum, the staircase had scrolling wrought iron and each room had ceiling fixtures hanging so low that it made the 8 ft. ceilings feel much smaller. Having no reno experience under my belt, I still felt that this 2400 sq. ft. house had potential. Thus began our renovation journey, and we lived through all of it! I don’t think I knew what my style was when we started renovating our home and decisions often had to be made quickly. There are some things I would change, but I have learned so much throughout this process. And five years later, I think I have found my casually modern, beachy-boho style through decorating it , and it has truly become a passion of mine.
New Year, New Beautiful Homes of Instagram
Our kitchen was the last major renovation. After living in what felt like a wooden cave, I wanted our new kitchen to be light and bright. We took down the wall that separated the kitchen from our playroom to open it up. I had always wanted an island but, due to building codes, the island would have been very small. So, I adjusted my vision and was able to have the counter space and seating area by making it into a peninsula instead.
Peninsula measures 6 ft x 4.5 ft. and counters are Salt White Marble.
Paint Color: Valspar Mountain Mist.
Kettle: Crate & Barrel.
“Let’s Stay Home” sign: Here.
Runner & Flooring
This pink kitchen runner is one of the cheeriest pieces of home décor I own. I paired it with the wallpaper to make our kitchen more playful.
Runner: Here.
Flooring: Wickham Hardwood, Maple (color Walnut) – similar here, here & here.
Cabinet Paint Color
Kitchen cabinets are Maple, painted Benjamin Moore White.
Canisters: West Elm.
Backsplash is Daltile Subway Tile, 3×6 in Arctic White – similar here.
Appliances: Thermador Range, GE Café Series Refrigerator.
Marble Clock: Sur la Table.
Cabinet Cup Pulls: Hickory Hardware.
Sink & Faucet
While it might not be the most picturesque faucet, I love how we can turn the faucet on and off without dripping on our marble counters. Definitely a functional win!
Kitchen Faucet: Faucet, Moen Motionsense Chrome.
Kitchen Sink: 33” Farmhouse Fireclay Sink.
Kitchen Towel: Kate Spade.
Lighting & Barstools
When choosing the pendants over our peninsula, I didn’t want to compete with the chandelier in the nook. These cone pendants with their antique brass interior echoed the glam of the chandelier without overwhelming the space.
Barstools: Serena & Lily.
Lighting: Visual Comfort – 15 Inch Wide.
Utensil Holder: West Elm.
Breakfast Nook
I loved the idea of a breakfast nook and wanted to make it feel special, so I went with wallpaper and a statement chandelier. I think the wallpaper adds so much personality to this otherwise all white kitchen. I then paired it with a more rustic feeling table and chairs to contrast the crisp, geometric design.
Table is RH – similar here, here, here, here & here.
Chairs are RH – similar here & here.
Pillows: here, here, here, here, here & here.
Chandelier & Wallpaper
Wallpaper is from Serena & Lily in Denim.
Chandelier is Visual Comfort.
Playroom
After taking down the wall between the kitchen and the playroom, this is now our view. Since this is the room my sons hang out in the most, it had to be functional for them but also flow with our kitchen.
Sofa is from HD Buttercup
Window Treatment throughout home are plantation shutters by American Vision Windows
Paint Color
The barstools had to become part of the design for the playroom because of the open concept, so going slightly more coastal in this room with the oversized beach print and using blue accents in the room helped tie things together.
Paint color is Valspar Mountain Mist.
Inspired by this Look:
!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? 'http' : 'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + '://' + 'widgets.rewardstyle.com' + '/js/shopthepost.js';d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === 'object') if(d.readyState === 'complete') {window.__stp.init();}}(document, 'script', 'shopthepost-script');
JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content.
Sofa
Some might think a white sofa and children do not go together. And they would be right! However, I love the crisp look of a white sofa so I chose a slipcover that can be removed and washed.
Sofa is from HD Buttercup.
Ottomans: Etsy.
Artwork: Minted.
Rug: Pottery Barn.
Mudcloth Pillow is by Bryar Wolf – similar here.
Playroom Media Center
Not fancy or even perfectly styled, but that is mom life! This media center holds all the extra toys and books and games.
TV: Samsung.
Gray bins are from IKEA – similar here.
Media Center: Pottery Barn.
Knobs: Restoration Hardware Dillon Knobs.
African Wall Baskets: Etsy.
Desk
Both the desk and window-seat are IKEA hacks. I upgraded the desk by swapping out the hardware and I made the IKEA Kallax bookshelf-turned-window seat feel more custom by adding a bench cushion.
Rattan Mirror: Pottery Barn.
Vintage rug found on Etsy – similar here.
Window
Pillows and bench cushion by Tonic Living – Similar Bench: here (on sale!) & here.
Bins found at Target.
Living Room
Our sectional is actually a recliner and the chaise lifts up for hidden storage. I love how functional it is for our family.
While there is still updating to do to this room, we recently removed the metal stair railings and replaced it with a wooden banister. Painting and staining the banister was a beast! But it was well worth it.
Stair posts are Benjamin Moore Super White and stain was a custom mix.
Artwork on wall by @sarahcnightingale.
Sofa: West Elm.
Paint Color
Wall paint color is Benjamin Moore London Fog.
Rug is discontinued – similar here.
Seagrass lidded basket: here – similar.
Fireplace
Choosing a split-faced stone for the fireplace is still one of my favorite design decisions.
Stone: Wayfair.
Chair: West Elm.
Moroccan Leather Pouf: here.
Fireplace Sconces: Pottery Barn.
Shelves
Believe it or not, farmhouse style was my first love.
Shelves are IKEA and I spray painted the brackets Rustoleum Hammered Copper.
Grid Photo Frame: McGee.
Walnut Frame: McGee.
Brass Bells: McGee.
Rustic Vase: Here.
Artwork on top by @sarahcnightingale.
Others items mix of flea market and HomeGoods finds (including bottom baskets) – similar baskets: here.
Coffee Table
Coffee Table: here.
Coffee Table Decor: Wooden Bowl, similar moss, similar wooden beads & similar vintage bells.
Sofa Pillows: here, here, here & here.
Dining Room
I love earthy elements and this rustic dining table is the perfect combination of form and function. With all of its raw imperfections, the kids can be as rough as they want with it and I don’t mind.
Dining Table & Bench: West Elm.
Rug is vintage – similar here, here, here, here & here.
Wooden Candle holders are locally sourced.
Planter in corner is from HomeGoods – similar here & here.
Good Vibes
There is a casualness about my design style which is probably why I gravitate towards word art. And I love the boldness of this black and white piece.
Artwork by JaxnBlvd.
Stool: Target.
Dining Room Chairs
The white wishbone chairs help to bring a lightness to this space which doesn’t get a lot of natural light and the chairs’ low profile makes this small dining space feel bigger. Paint Color is Benjamin Moore London Fog.
Chairs are by InMod – similar here, here & here.
Lighting: West Elm – similar here.
Mirror: here.
Floor basket: Pier 1.
Kids Corner
This was a fun IKEA hack that I did for my 7 year old’s room. I took the IKEA Kallax shelf unit, chose two different color doors and then spray painted the letters. Wall color is Valspar Ghost Ship.
Pillows by Tonic Living – similar here.
Rug & Seagrass boxes from Homegoods – similar rug & baskets.
Shelf and baskets from IKEA .
Reading Nook
These fern decals make this reading nook a lot of fun for my four-year-old. And while I would have loved a hanging chair, I didn’t think it was practical for my boys so I opted for this caged freestanding chair instead.
Decals by Urban Walls.
Chair: World Market.
Paper Mache Animal Heads: Fox, Rabbit & Deer.
Elephant Side Table: Serena & Lily.
Rug: here – similar.
Prints by Society6.
Guest Bedroom
Adding board and batten was a game changer in this room. It instantly made the guest bedroom feel loftier than its standard 8 ft. ceiling height.
Leather Bed: CB2.
Duvet Cover: here.
Nightstand: West Elm.
Throw: here, here & here.
Rug: here.
Paint Color
Paint color is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.
Candle Holders: Crate & Barrel.
Pillows: Black & White & Bolster Pillow – similar.
Artwork: here.
Guest Bathroom
This small bathroom was the first major renovation we did when we moved in. There was literally a treasure chest inspired toilet box in here and, much like the rest of the house, tiles and walls were orange-brown. Having no prior design experience, I went with timeless marble and this little bathroom still makes me happy.
Bathroom wall paint is Behr Sterling.
Vanity: Wayfair.
Faucet is Kohler Bancroft.
Mirror: Uttermost.
Hand Towel: McGee.
Wood pot from HomeGoods.
Floor Tile: Wayfair.
Master Bathroom
This is our only bathroom upstairs, so it was important for us to keep a separate tub for our kids. Paint color is Behr Light French Gray.
Paint Cabinet Color: Benjamin Moore Simply White.
Tile is Ceramiche Caesar Porcelain Tile in MORE Manhattan – similar here.
Rug is from HomeGoods – similar here & here.
Vanity: Pottery Barn.
Art Print from Serena & Lily.
Crytal knob by Emtek.
Tub: Wayfair.
Stool: Serena & Lily.
Master Bedroom
I love having a neutral bedroom that I can easily switch up by swapping out pillows and throws.
Bed: Wayfair.
Blue quilt from HomeGoods.
Throw: Etsy – similar here.
Full Length Mirror: here – similar.
Rug: Lulu & Georgia.
Textures
Bench from RJ Imports – similar here.
Duvet Cover: Anthropologie.
Wall Basket: here – similar.
Pillows: Velvet Pillows, Mudcloth Pillows, Lumbar – similar.
Stripe vase from Crate & Barrel.
Faux Stems: Crate & Barrel.
Nightstands from Crate & Barrel discontinued but similar ones here, here, here & here.
Paint Color
Paint color is Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore.
One of my favorite things about this house is the amount of closet space. Our master has a his and hers closet. The smaller one behind that door is the his, of course.
Ladder is from Crate & Barrel.
DIY
The wall art here was an easy DIY. I put mudcloth scraps in black frames to give this corner a boho chic look.
Chair from HD Buttercup – other beautiful chairs: here, here, here & here.
Side table: here.
Bench: here.
Dresser: Pottery Barn.
Desk
Desk from Restoration Hardware – other beautiful desks: here & here.
Chair is from IKEA – similar here.
Pillow: Serena & Lily.
Hanging planter is from Homegoods – similar here.
Baskets: Serena & Lily.
Rug is from Homegoods – similar here, here, here, here & here.

Changing Your Home Windows to Change the Inside Look of Your House
Home renovations can do a lot of things to the inside (and outside) look of your house. This project involves various aspects. But if you want to make your house look more valuable after the renovation is completed, then make sure that your home windows look modern. Fuse Traditional with Modern Home Windows This is now getting more popular among houses in Los Angeles. You can choose arched windows with glass, which are fixed on a wooden frame. This window style creates a classy style. It can also decorate your house’s exterior. Slanting Windows They are custom-made windows. Slanting windows are typically made of glass that moves along with the slanting roof. It means that as the top descends, the window gets smaller in height. This is one of the most appealing designs as it syncs with your house style. If you wish to have it custom-made, make sure to call California Deluxe Windows. Room Full of Windows These windows are ideal if you want to see the view outside of your house. If you live on a property with gorgeous landscapes, then make sure to have at least one room full of windows. They are customized windows to give the room ample natural light and air. But make sure that the design is easy to clean. And it must not be challenging to maintain them. Talk to California Deluxe Windows about the design of these windows to make sure that they are energy-efficient. Bow Windows Is there a corner of your house that has become a favorite spot for your family to hang out? If there is one, then make that room feel more spacious by constructing bow windows. When you look at these windows on the outside, they can create an illusion of a curvy appearance. Long Vertical Windows With these windows, choose to have more than two long vertical windows rather than one large horizontal window. They can easily add drama and elegance to the house. It’s a smart design as it makes the room look and appears taller. Shutter Windows They are traditional yet chic and classy. Shutter windows can dress up the house without getting out of style. Whether you close the windows or decide to open them, they can boost the elegance of any room. Arch Windows These are simply some of the favorites of man architects. They can add softness to the room while creating a contrasting effect of a curvy top. Add some grinds to enhance the window’s elegance. They can also add aesthetics to the house’s interior and exterior. Bringing Beauty to Your House You can add more decorations to your house. However, if you have done them but you still can’t figure out what is lacking, then you might consider changing your home windows. Consult with California Deluxe Windows today to find out how we can bring new beauty to your house. Our experts are ready to discuss your ideas. Call us here: 1 (800) 639-9463.
