The rain was very heavy on the Costa del Sol, with Estepona taking the brunt of it, but Alicante on the Costa Blanca had half the years normal rain fall in 12 hours, so we palled in comparison … Rivers broke their banks and streets were flooded and the emergency teams worked all day and night protecting people and animals… Here we had torrential rain along with thunderstorms storms and lightning.. added to that it was so dam cold… I wonder if Nostradamus says anything about this weather.. I bet he has something about Trump…

BREXIT LOOMS AS SCOTLAND LOOKS TO LEAVE UK…. Things fall apart. The Brexit bill has finally passed without amendments after weeks of bouncing between the two houses of Britain’s Parliament. The path to triggering Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which formally commits the U.K. to leaving the EU, is now clear. Officials say the starting gun will be fired at the end of March. The news comes as Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced she’ll seek a second independence referendum to keep Scotland in the EU, even if it means the breakup of the United Kingdom.

SCOTTISH SEX OFFENDERS COULD BE CHEMICALLY CASTRATED…. Men in Scotland convicted of sex crimes could be chemically castrated in a bid to stop them re-offending. The voluntary scheme, which is being considered by health bosses in Glasgow, would see men put on medication which will reduce their libido. The trial would be a first in Scotland. The plan will see participants receive the treatment and then monitored by officials to see if further crime is prevented. It is hoped, if successful, the scheme could be rolled out across the country. Margaret-Ann Cummings, whose son Mark, then 8, was killed by a paedophile in 2004, told the Daily Mail newspaper that she cautiously welcomed the trial. She said: “If sex offenders are volunteering to go through with his and willing to change to stop other people being hurt then they should be offered every support possible. “However, it is vital that authorities are not using the public as guinea pigs in an experiment here. Everything must be tightly controlled.” The scheme is being considered by the Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership (GHSCP). Scottish Tory justice spokesman Douglas Ross said: “While this may seem drastic, if those taking part have volunteered to do so then the trial is worth conducting.” A similar trial in Nottinghamshire, England, saw 100 volunteers take part in the treatment with results described as ‘encouraging’. A GHSCP spokesman said: “This initiative is at an early stage.. but it is anticipated that anti-libidinal drugs would be used on a case-by-case basis where appropriate.” A Scottish Government spokesman added: “Anti-libidinal drugs are only appropriate for a very small number of sex offenders and are used on a voluntary basis.”

‘REAL THREAT’ OF TERRORISTS CROSSING IRISH SEA TO SCOTLAND…. Passenger lists on ferries connecting Belfast and Larne to Scotland have been “Unreliable” The threat of terrorists crossing by ferry from Northern Ireland to Scotland is real and substantiated, the former terrorism reviewer has warned. Officers at the Scottish ports of Loch Ryan and Cairnryan said passenger information from ferry companies was “incomplete and unreliable”. Since 2014 the terrorism threat in Scotland has been “severe”, with an attack highly likely. Reviewer David Anderson, QC, wrote: “The threat of terrorists crossing from Northern Ireland to Scotland is a real and substantiated one. “The Canary Wharf truck bomb of 1996, manufactured by the IRA in South Armagh, killed two people, injured more than 100 and caused £150 million worth of damage. “It was transported from Larne to Stranraer on a Stena Lines ferry, then driven to London.” That attack was more than 20 years ago, before the 1998 Good Friday Agreement which cemented the peace process. Police Scotland this month launched a campaign urging the public to help defeat terrorism. The terrorism reviewer’s report was published before he left office at the start of March. He said passenger lists for ferries connecting Belfast and Larne in Co Antrim to the Scottish West Coast were incomplete and unreliable, warning that port security had been impaired by shortcomings. A statement from Police Scotland said: “While there is a distinction between the type of passenger information available at a ferry port compared to an international airport, officers from Police Scotland’s Border Policing Command work closely with operators at the respective ferry ports to ensure this is a safe environment for passengers who travel as well as the safety and security of communities elsewhere in the UK.”

EMERGENCY SERVICES TACKLE MAJOR LOSSIEMOUTH WILDFIRE…. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews battled the grassland fire in the Covesea Links area in a bid to prevent it spreading further. Crews were called out at about 10:45. Smoke could be seen over a wide area. Police Scotland said some roads closed as a result. Moray Council said more than 20 people staying at the nearby Silver Sands caravan site were moved as a precaution. The council later said firefighters brought the gorse fire under control by the early afternoon, allowing the caravan site to reopen. Teams were remaining at the scene to make sure it was safe.

RARE 17TH CENTURY ‘CHIMNEY MAP’ TO GO ON DISPLAY IN EDINBURGH…. Experts spent several months cleaning and reassembling the 17th century map after it was discovered in a house in Aberdeenshire.  A rare 17th century map of the world rescued from a skip is to go on public display after undergoing restoration. The artefact, discovered during the renovation of a house in Aberdeenshire, was handed to the National Library of Scotland after being rescued from a skip by builders. The map, the work of a Dutch engraver and one of only three in existence, was in a near ruinous state.  Researchers have now identified the piece as a 17th century wall map of the world produced by the Dutch engraver Gerald Valck, one of only three copies in existence. It became known as the “chimney map” after it was first revealed last year to have been found stuffed up a chimney. But experts now believe it was found under a floorboard during renovations in the 1980s to a house on the Castle Fraser estate near Kemnay, west of Aberdeen. The National Trust for Scotland, which owns the castle, has started its own investigation to discover why such an important map came to be found where it was. The near-ruined map was delivered to the library in Edinburgh bundled up in a plastic sack last year by Aberdeen schoolteacher and map enthusiast Brian Crossan. Experts have since removed the artefact from its original fabric backing, cleaned it, and reassembled it with a new paper lining. “This is a truly amazing piece of work,” said Mr Crossan. “I would never have imagined that this could have been done. I was sure the map was beyond saving and it’s great to see it once more hanging proudly on a wall for everyone in Scotland to see, instead of abandoned and out of sight.” The restored map will be on display at the National Library in Edinburgh until April 17.
