Miku, take me home.
(some bg/process info under the cut!!)
My take on the Miku Culture trend as a mixed person who grew up detached from either of their cultures.
When I saw this trend going around, it made me feel very bittersweet. I’m a mixed person who was not only born and raised in Canada, but to parents who were also born and raised in Canada. My mother has never been to her home country, and my father has only been a handful of times to his. I love seeing everybody celebrating their own diverse cultures, but it makes me yearn for the culture that I’ve never had.
The left Miku is based of traditional dutch clothing. I was going to incorporate the prayer cloth that is very prominent in older dutch fashion, but decided not to because of how much of Miku’s design is her hair. So, I instead opted to give her the iconic dutch twin braids.
The right Miku is based off a mix of Indian + Gyuanese clothing. Finding any sort of reference for Indian-Guyanese traditional clothing was (unsurprisingly) really hard, so I tried to incorporate some of the elements from both cultures that I saw both online and in my own personal life (though those experiences are severely limited). While looking through Guyanese clothing, I saw lots of colourful patterns and colours, so i wanted to implement them into my design :3
To any mixed folks and/or people who grew up detached from their culture: I see you, I feel you, I understand you.

i think one of my favorite things about the worldwide miku trend is people making mikus of the past like “i know your not really around anymore but we saw you and your art and your clothes and we loved it! so even now that your gone your essence is not. Hundreds of years later we dress up our beloveds in your clothes, with your art, we remember you, we love you.” and it makes me ILL
(medieval miku for example)

MORE DESI MIKU?!?!?!? (+korean miku!) Can you tell I love drawing her?
I'm really sad the trend died down a lot (or did it??idk, I think my last post kinda flopped compared to the others). Desi miku is so silly!!!
Also, you may be wondering who the other miku is, and it's South Korean Miku!!! A friend requested I draw her. I'm not Korean myself, so I hope I did well! They loved the end result, by the way!! :D
I think im proud of the top left drawing of the first image! It's miku doing Bharatanatyam, one of the classical dances of India! My mom seemed to really like this one, but I don't think she knows it's miku lol (I didn't write the "Hatsune Miku" until I made all 3 drawings). Drawing the costume was a but tedious, but I think it turned out fine!
Desi Miku masterpost!

Each region in Brazil is like a subcountry. Here's Hatsune Miku from Ceará (Nordeste, Miku V2). in all her close-to-the-equator glory, and Hatsune Miku from Santa Catarina (Sul, Miku NT), a natural dancer. I found that the original Brazilian MIku reminded me a lot of Rio de Janeiro, but there's a lot more out there and many brazilian folks have gotten a go at representing the cultural diversity in here. This is my take! They're silently judging each other, hahaa....
btw: I decided to draw them out of a sense of justice almost-- i know the trend is bygone xD

People of tumblr.
I give you...
🇨🇵 French Miku 🇨🇵
Tumblr media
i didn't know how to make her without going into stereotypes, so i basically based her off one of my uncles and one of my cousins (who literally did stole a traffic cone)
Tumblr media
Transcription bc hard 2 read:
Miku: LES GARS, MATEZ ÇA, J'AI VOLÉ UN PLOT!!
(GUYS, LOOK, I STOLE A TRAFFIC CONE!!)
Teto: Meuf, t'es sérieuse?
(Girl, you serious?)
Miku: T'es just jalouse que j'ai un plot, et toi PAS.
(You're just jealous that i have a traffic cone and you DON'T.)
Tumblr media
(GET OUT OF THE ROAD, ASSHOLE!!)
Also, yeah, she has a motorcycle because yes.
