so I guess somethings happened while unavoidably incommunicado for the past two days. Pretty sure the first presidential election i didn't vote in. my state wasn't in doubt anyway

Had to unfollow blogs for the first time in the 9 -10yrs? I've been here. One I'd followed 4 a few months on sat. and one I'd followed for 6+yrs today. Ignorance is what it is, we are all guilty of it. I rarely shake my head at it. Then there is this sort of deep toxic ignorance that is based on several misunderstanding and leads people to push for things that only sever to make their ignorance reality.

"Real communism hasn't been tried" a basic and now well worn example. An ocean of dead bodies and oceans of oceans of human degradation and suffering apparently are not universal knowledge at this point.

Rich = evil? Are you a child or just don't understand how humans work. Confiscating all of the wealth of the top 1%? only pays the bills for a few month and then it's gone and destroys production and the economy and far less money for the future. Class warfare is dead, it moved on to grievances between races and genders. they haven't even kept up.

Second your going to blame a head of one of the most types of businesses on the planet for the way it does business? I don;t even understand how it all works. I do understand that a lot of it, but do understand insurance can't cover everything all the time. The blame is with the system and the people who make the rule, the people you elected, based on ( in the case of healthcare) a mass of ignorance about healthcare, business, government, human nature, the limits of care, cost or regs, and and and....

then to call for the hunting down / execution for not just for the actions of one person but a whole groups of people for playing with in the rules that ended in bad outcomes real and imagined. It would be a little closer to the problem if directed at our elected officials, but they would have to be replaced... i think we do that already with out he kill part. It isn't any better than a call to hunt down blacks or "the gays" or the Jews.... well the hunt down the Jews calls have been happening. Killing people just because thay belong to that group or the other just leads to more killing.

Politic ish, Apologies

I know the leanings of this site and the wider culture. I am here for the images and don't repost vids,or text or cartoons, or news.. and generally not people, pet, food, luxury, etc. I don't generally don't follow those who do a lot of that. that's this place.

There's been more "typical" political post that tempted me to comment . I came close to unfollowing two people over Trump assassination posts. In short both "sides" of "politics " are deeply flawed, making the wrong assumptions and asking wrong and irrelevant questions about almost everything.

The political/ news stories and thoughts get posted over at @cultml if you want the less newsy version try the vid archives. I may post some in that direction here if i get annoyed enough.

Empathy has never been Great. The kind of universal empathy we think of is, as far as i can tell, not that old. Empathy is a useful and necessary tool for understanding people and therefor understanding the world. It may be a motivation to Consider action on someone else's behalf. It is not and never should be a call to action, any action.

To see a starving child in front of you and say, no demand someone feed this child is what the empathy we practice has gotten us. It bastardized empathy. Is some empathy but more apathy used as a chance to show your virtue while doing nothing. A shrewd person will say there is a starving child and proclaim they can help, only if your give then the power to do so, at no cost to you.

Why is the child starving? Is the child starving? Is the child real? will the solution work? What are the shrewd getting out of it? Rational questions empathy hides.

Beware  those wearing virtuous mask claiming empathy for straw men

Empathy is great when it caused you to act on the problem that you can help in front of you. Empathy is great when it informs your understanding of others actions.

Empathy is a weapon when it is unbound by reason. Empathy is a poison when you believe others should act in your place. Empathy needs to be tamed and put in it’s place and them maybe it can be great.

It is not that F'n SIMPLE. just amazes me still how much people with the winning arrangement can act like ignorant zealots.

That’s what I should have said to my sister when she asked genuinely what my problem with wearing a mask was.  On this occasion I had gotten trapped and was pretty pissed about the whole situation. The week before one of the big retailer announced a mandate masks. Virtue signalling group think as far as I was concerned and assumed, wrongly that if i bought a little more I would have time to finally workaround them. The day the mandate took effect and the day i talked to her,  I stopped by one of the more expensive less convenient workaround places to find a mask mandate. An couple hours latter i find out my main grocery store and the others options where going to mandate as well. Online is feeding a different beast and sending someone in my place is out sourcing my acquiescence. Trapped. In the end I just told her no one knows what they are doing (the failure to still count the deaths correctly), it’s ridiculous (contradictory studies and disparate rules), that i suddenly didn’t have a choice and it was going to take me a few days to adjust.

What was really going through my head was about USSR.  “ It wasn’t the just the necessary lies it was the absurd little pointless ones that broke the spirit of the people” to paraphrase badly from a place I don’t remember. That is clearer statement of Voltaire and a simple explanation of why we shouldn’t lie. It’s not the childish notion that we should not because the truth is easier. Most see mask wearing a virtuous, for me it’s an affirmation of a lie, of several, of the ones closer to the roots. It’s not a herculean feat to see for me it’s just stupid hard wired reflexive contrarian angst , not hell no so much as why the hell . It leads you to question anti-vax, reduced fat, publish or die, replication crisis, Russell conjugation, virtues signalling, Overton window, attacks on moral relativism destroying gradation of sin and virtue, cognitive biases , government building as nation building, gas lighting, the church defending itself and the existence of God but not the moral order(not that it knew the difference), the irreconcilability of socialist thought and Jihadists with the west, big government as government playing god, half the people are dumper than the other, death of the common, the long list of what’s called the regressive left we focus so much on (more of a symptom than a cause),cultural relativism, common human behavior dressing up common human behavior as conspiracy, fragility of high civilization, economics standing in for moral order, monogamy, “perfect as your are” drowning the phoenix, nuclear family, woke rewrites hiding more subtle rewrites of western mythos, the prison of two ideas, deep silos of knowledge standing in for wider wisdom, and….

At some point you find yourself  outside and not in some sort of edgy artsy way, not quite smart enough to figure out why no one else is there. I am sliding back into the hope I have gone insane. You deal with the whirling nightmare as little as possible, you don’t call it out at every turn, you don’t cheer it on, you don’t help it, and YOU DO NOT FUCKING LIE ABOUT IT.
