Hello! On Tuesday 11.5.2024, Croutons was taken to the vet because he was straining to pee. We were informed that he has a build up a crystals in his bladder (it looked like a snow globe). We were sent home with medication, prescription food, an instructions to try to hydrate him.

... unfortunately for us Croutons is the most stuborn cat alive and does not like wet food so getting him to consume any liquid was near impossible. We returned to the vet the next evening where, unfortunately again, we were informed that he was blocked and the vet needed to move forward with strong anesthetic and a catheder.

We will be picking him up tomorrow (11.8.2024) and will have to pay the bill in full, so any donations or support helps! I will be posting the paid bill once we are home with Crout.

I let Caroline take the university aptitude test. Ngl I'm soooo not in the mood to go back to university but I really would like to focus a bit more on Caroline and Ophelia. I was thinking of sending them together, like I did with Alexander and Crystal, and just see where things develop. They just belong together and I feel like they need a little more time to figure themselves out. Away from their families and friends. 🤷🏼‍♂️

back in the game with a bit of insanely last minute holiday rush. i've been busy slapping the shit out of some lovely new cups, tea bowls and yunomis with about 45 in total now nearly dry enough to bisque late tomorrow or Wednesday;

you're simply not living until you betch slap some shetbag clay!

and that little mishap with glaze in the kiln? got to play surgery earlier and successfully extracted the mess

it was that wonderful blue/green crystal glaze, but when most any fluid glass makes contact with kiln brick, it's a bubbly corrosive nightmare. saved some souvenirs to commemorate the first dip shit damage 😑

however, this provided a good time to patch some nuisance cracks that have been causing concern lately plus other fine tuning and maintenance to keep this giant crucible chugging along smoothly! my go-to shop was out of kiln patch compound but with most anything ceramics, such things can be made from source materials, and i found a great and simple refractory [doesn't melt even beyond 2400°f] brick patch!

so my yet-to-be-officially-named baby is currently running a quick bisque temp firing to seal the deal before going full speed ahead during the next week. beginning to mentally prepare for a breathless glazing marathon later this week.

there's gonna be a lot of unicorn cum just ahead...

Away Shall Fade

It was a fairly unremarkable winter’s day when Teleri just knew it was time. There was nothing in the wind or water or even earth to herald it, but as she sucked the last of the pomegranate juice from her fingers the thought struck her like a train.

I’m ready now.

If you asked around town the consensus would probably be that she was ready to face just about anything, but Teleri knew that wasn’t quite right. There was nothing around that could adequately prepare her for the most important battle of her life, as she had discovered on her first attempt.

He’d never admit it, but Teleri was certain it was Darius who had rescued her. For one, he was nowhere near the expansionist his father was. For two, as much as he pretended otherwise Teleri knew he adored her. The poor dear was far too caught up in his position to ever admit how much he loved those around him, but Teleri could see it. For three, no one else had access to the inner sanctum. It was him or King Minos, and she’d put any amount of money on it not being King Minos.

Today, though… Today, she was ready.

She wasn’t going to be as casual about this fight as she had been the last time, though. Her preparations had been extensive and ongoing, but all was finally in place.

The first step was to grab the good weapons. As fun as it was exploding eggs on her enemies, that wasn’t going to work here. She needed her good crossbow, which this time had been easy to find (she was not repeating that debacle that was the three-day cleaning spree that still hadn’t located her first Good Crossbow. Spare weapons had a place now) as well as her sunite sword. It matched her armour, for all she wore an illusion that hid that from sight. Gleaming metal had never been her aesthetic, and she wasn’t changing that now. Not even for Dynus.

Then she went to raid the fridge. Nathaniel had once again eaten all the fried fish, but that was fine. She was after the honey and a two-four of soda. Next she changed into a dress she’d specifically bought for the occasion, knowing full well it was the complete opposite of the Withergate aesthetic. They would know her for the Champion she was, armour or no. And so would Dynus, disgusted by her though he was.

He was never going to understand how she was content with her soldier husband and collection of farms. She was never going to convince him of their value. She knew that, but she also knew she didn’t have to convince Dynus of squat, she just had to send him back to his cave with his tail between his legs. She didn’t even really want him to take his spell off of Withergate, since it made everyone who did live there so much healthier and happier, she just wanted him to stop threatening other towns.

And today was the day she was going to teach him that lesson.

Really, his weakness is that he just won’t leave his pile of glorite crystals. Teleri thought, brushing her sweat-soaked bangs from her eyes with her off hand as she drew her sword. He needs to summon minions to have any hope of actually coming after me. The rest are just spells.

Very powerful spells, of course, but just spells nonetheless. She readied her sword and leapt through space with her own little spell, slicing through his minions as she moved. It wasn’t the sheer, overwhelming firepower she could bring to bear with her crossbow, of course, but the sword was a lot more focussed. A lot more pointed, if you will. She smirked to herself and made a mental note to tell that joke to Nathaniel later. He was always up for a good sword pun. The shadeclaws fell before her, and Dynus roared in frustration.

“Your reality is under my control!” He snarled. “Give in to my will!”

Teleri snarled right back and continued shooting at him even as the cavern flooded and she found herself perched precariously on one of a half dozen or so little rock ledges that had not previously existed. “You can’t beat me by preventing me from getting to you!” She called out, annoyed but not discouraged. “I haven’t needed to be in arm’s reach this whole time, and that isn’t going to start now!”

She cursed softly under her breath as she noticed her flaming arrows ceasing to do much damage. Where before they had torn into him viciously, now they bounced gently off doing the absolute minimum amount of hurt possible. Dynus laughed, and her irritation rose with it. “That’s not going to stop me!” She insisted. “I’ll take you down one papercut at a time thousand cut style if I have to!”

The dragon smirked at her, and she noticed a green shimmer covering him. “Are you healing yourself, you giant cheat?!?” She hollered, outraged. He bared his teeth at her in a very self-satisfied way that was definitely a laugh.

“Okay, new plan.” She muttered to herself, pausing to look around her. It was then that she noticed the glowing stones at the far ends of the rock outcroppings, and she cursed fervently and inventively. 

She hastily tossed back a couple jars of honey before once again eyeing the platforms around her. “I really hate these damned jumps.” She admitted softly before lining up to take one. This was unlikely to be quite as difficult as getting into Withergate itself had been, but it still wasn’t really one of her best skills.

She only fell off the edge twice reaching the first one, which was quite impressive for her. She was powerful and blessed and tenacious, but what she was not was graceful. That thrice-damned tree in Nel’Vari had made that clear, and the Withergate sewers had cemented her understanding of her own abilities. Luckily (or unluckily, really)  the stone broke with only one swing of her sword. She sighed in defeat and turned back around, solemnly counting the platforms back to where she needed to go now. It was only eight, and they were stationary. She could do this. She could.

She had to.

The double pop of her airskip spell buoyed her as she leapt from the landing she was on. It was a maneouver more rooted in hope than in trust, but she managed somehow to land back on the platform she’d started on, and she windmilled her arms slightly to keep from overbalancing. Dynus was laughing at her, but she gave him no mind. She’d go back to thrashing the ever-loving spleen out of him as soon as she was done here. For now he was just background noise.

(That pissed him off more than anything. He’d always been weirdly possessive of her attention, going so far as to abandon his treasure and his city some nights to come buzz her farm while she was sleeping. He was such a needy little drama queen, really)

She eyed the platforms and the water warily, then decided on a slightly more cautious approach to this distance. Instead of wildly throwing herself at the end platform in one go, she opted to edge as far forward as she could before using a single airskip to get over two, then repeated it for the next to. The she carefully lined up before the final ledge and just gave one normal little hop to finally reach it.

Dynus roared again, this time surpassing frustration and going straight for fury, as she took out his second healing rock. It appeared to have been the last thing holding the ocean in too, as his grasp on the magic that had warped the battlefield to his benefit slipped away from him the same time his healing spell did.

Teleri grinned again, fierce and proud, as she resumed taking potshots at him.

Suddenly she staggered, the sheer volume of magic she’d been using hitting her like a felled tree as her exhaustion overwhelmed her battle fury. She stumbled slightly, and the phantump that had just been summoned got a good crack across her face as she attempted to reorient. 

Two steps, three, then a dozen she went, skittering back to create a little space as she tried to focus. Hadn’t she brought something for this?

Her face lit up as she remembered her careful preparations. She holstered her crossbow and popped the top on her first soda of the day, knowing she was going to win this.

The phantumps advanced on her, but not nearly quickly enough. She downed several before drawing her sword again. The smile she gave them was near feral, caked in blood and unhinged.

“Do your worst.” She hissed, teleporting through them like she had the previous enemies. “I’ve just had five straight shots of sugar and caffeine, and I’m ready to fight God himself at this point. A dragon won’t stop me, and you won’t even slow me down.”

They fell as quickly as their comrades, and she once again turned on the cause of all this mayhem. It only took a few more volleys of flaming arrows before even he bowed before her skills, conceding defeat in the most ungracious way possible.

(Teleri wasn’t surprised in the slightest that he was a sore loser. That was a very Dynus thing to be. He did, however, promise to stop advancing his cloud of darkness so she supposed she could be gracious enough for both of them.)

Darius was waiting for her as she exited the cavern, to no surprise of hers. She smiled at him and he gave her the most ridiculous cow’s eyes back even as he pretended to be dignified and tough.

Teleri knew she must look a fright, sweaty and bloodstained and still fucking dripping from accidentally jumping in the water, but he looked at her like she was the most incredible thing he had ever seen and she felt herself blushing. He smirked at her then, a shade of his usual arrogance shining through, but Teleri saw right through it. She’d had his number since the first time he saw her after sneaking into the city, when he’d ignored his previous posturing about calling the guard and instead just decreed that she not cause trouble. She did, of course, there was nothing Teleri excelled at more than causing trouble, but it all had somehow only endeared her to the prickly young Prince, and that was never more obvious than now.

Darius offered her his arm, like a young lord to his lady, and she accepted, easily sliding her blood-stained hand through the crook of his elbow without concern for his surcoat. “I saw what you did there.” He commented. “Impressive, especially for one who glories in dirt as you do.”

She giggled, her exhilaration getting the best of her. “You know fine and well that I use magic for the majority of my actual farming at this point, Darius.” She pointed out. “I really don’t like grubbing in the dirt, it was just the job offer I took when I headed South on a new adventure.”

“And yet you still smell like dirt.” He commented. Though it sounded like it was an insult, she could clearly hear the companionable closeness in his comment.

“Mmmm smell like sun, really.” She replied, phasing out for a moment. “Sun and sea and warm growing things. Don’t tell me you’re not a little bit jealous. I know most Monsterfolk are hurt by the sun, but you’re far too powerful for that yourself. You miss it sometimes. That’s why you alway accept my invite to come to all the festivals and parties.”

“Shhh, not so loud.” He whispered conspiritorily. “I’ve got an image to maintain you know, and my people need to trust that I would never strip the darkness from Withergate. It’s the only way they’ll stay safe.”

Teleri yawned. “Of course! I’m so glad Dynus relented before I had to fully banish him. I’d have been devastated if I had to hurt Withergate in that way! I’d have been bothering Lucia and Catharine and even Elios to try and restore it if that had happened! It’s important your people are safe, just as it’s important that Sun Haven is.”

Teleri laughed, light and fond. “Nathaniel is not going anywhere anytime soon, Your Highness. But I will outlive him, as all of us know. It is a blessing and a curse of my kind, as I’m sure you’re aware. Perhaps, when that occurs, I shall accept your advances. More than I do now, at any rate.”

Darius threw back his head and laughed wholeheartedly. They both knew they had spent many a quiet and not-so-quiet evening together, as did Nathaniel, and that Teleri had never been shy about accepting any advances, really. It was a delight that Nathaniel had been willing to put away his human preferences for Teleri, but Darius had much more at stake.
