How did you study about military gear? I'm currently trying & searching sources and looking for some tips.
I really like your work btw. Keep going✨️
Hi! Thank you so much, I'm excited to share some knowledge with someone. <3 I tried summing up methods that have helped me the most: 1. lots of research (vids, blogs, magazines, loadout lists,...) 2. store/product photos 3. military photos (not airsoft!) 4. damtoy loadout showcase vids I first started off with doing extensive research on cod operators. Cosplay guides by shadeops21 (DeviantArt) are a huge help with the most accurate loadout lists.
Next step was looking up product photos & studying the functions, shapes, different angles. Store/product photos are my most used refs, they're in high resolution & you'll see every detail thanks to a well lit environment. I also collect military pics in one huge folder, not only for pose refs & inspo, but also as refs on how the gear is used. Product photos will lay flat, worn gear will always look different!
Make sure to learn how to differentiate airsoft from real military pics, airsofters (except for dedicated reenactors/milsimers) tend to have wacky tastes (ugly, black amazon gear and fake, glowing NVGs,...).
The gear of Damtoys is incredibly accurate & precise, watching videos of the dolls being dressed will also give you an idea on how accs (pouches, glow sticks, radio systems, ...) are attached to the equipment.
My strongest interests lay in SOF, so I'll also collect magazines with expert info, insights & loadout descriptions (K-ISOM (German) SPECIAL OPS (Polish)). To my advantage, I do have friends who are either huge military nerds or in active duty, I'll sometimes ask them questions and learn about the features and (dis)advantages of various pieces of gear. It's a life hack, but you'll achieve your goal either way if you're determined!
After you got a feel for the basics, you can start accommodating knowledge. Study drawing/recognizing the most used equipment first, western modern kits are very repetitive (as the products are so good, they don't need to be replaced). Headsets: 3M Peltor ComTac, Sordin, Ops-Core AMP Helmets: Ops-Core, Crye AirFrame, Team Wendy, MICH 2000 Plate carriers: Crye JPC, Crye AVS, First Spear, Lindnerhof, AGILITE, LBT Slick & 6094 Gloves: Oakleys, PIG FDT Alpha, Mechanix, Petzl, Nomex flight gloves, Outdoor Research Ironsight After that you can start looking up more niche or less iconic brands and gear, you'll be a nerd in no time. I hope this is helpful and I'm sorry for the late reply. If you ever need help or info on something, feel free to dm me on Twitter or Tumblr!

New Content Update for Escape from Tarkov Adds Secret Laboratory, and a Plethora of New Content
The latest major update for the beta of Escape from Tarkov brings the game to version 0.11.0 and brings a bunch of weapons, a new location, and more. A new trailer shows off all of this and can be found at the bottom of this post, but let’s get into the details.
The update will bring players to a fairly fancy looking laboratory called TerraGroup Labs, now abandoned and with various areas to explore within it. Due to it being a secret location, there is no insurance return available, and there are no usual Scav’s within it and also roaming raiders.
The new location will offer players combat in tight corridors and large open areas, but will also bring firefights above and below as multiple floors within the laboratory walls keep enemies together. There is also a new consumable called Stimulators which will increase player skills but at the cost of affecting health.
There’s also a new Scav boss “Killa”, and four new weapons: ADAR-2-15, HK416 A5, RPK-16, and a Remington 700. Additionally, there are different variants of the Mosin rifle, and there are more than eighty weapon attachments in total added. You’ll also be able to give a good whacking with eight new melee weapons being made available to Escape from Tarkov,
Entrenching tool MPL-50
Bayonet 6h5
Tactical sword M-2
Hatchet Crash Axe
Machete SP-8
Grylls Ultimate Fixed Blade Knife
Ice Axe Rebel Adze Axe
Axe X7
Also joining the games range of equipment and gear is the following,
Night vision goggles NVG-10T
Night vision goggles Armasight N-15
Night vision goggles GPNVG-18
Skull Lock Armasight NVG Mask
Helmet Maska 1Sch + Armoured Face Shield
Helmet PsH-97 “Jeta”
Helmet SsH-68m
Firefighter Helmet ShPM
Helmet Crye Precision Airframe Tan
Additional Armour Crye Airframe Ears
Additional Armour Crye Airframe Chops
SLAAP Module for Fast MT Helmet
Assault Vest 6B13 (Digital Flora/Flora)
Assault Vest 6B23-1 (Digital Flora)
Assault Vest 6B23-2 (Mountain Flora)
Highcom Trooper TFO Body Armour (Multicam)
ZuHK-3 Body Armor (Press)
ZuHK-6a Body Armor
Escape from Tarkov also has been graphically optimized with this new update and fixes some stuttering issues. There are also new quests available for you to take on. You’ll find most of the above equipment featured in the video below and they certainly look pretty good.
Developer Battlestate Games has stated that the hours after the update goes live, servers may experience overload, which can increase matching wait times and see network delays. However, they say there will be no wipe of saved data.
The studio also teased what’s in store for 2019 with new game mechanics such as offraid healing, character clothing customization, VOIP, and more weapons with a system to create and share weapon presets. The game will continue to be optimized and a “Hideout” is planned to be added in Escape from Tarkov.
While currently only available in closed beta since June 2017, Escape from Tarkov is available to pre-order from the official website, and pre-ordering the standard edition will find you getting instant access to the closed beta, pre-loading, basic stash (10×26 cells) and bonus equipment. We’ve had a look at the title previously, you can find our preview here.
Escape from Tarkov is available on PC, but no official release date has been confirmed as of yet.

There is a lot of good here, sadly the sponsored gear is where the game falls short. We will discuss the following:Proportions/Fit (Minor)Camo consistency (Major)Gear availability/Customization (Major)First of all, let's talk about proportions. I understand that in the military, gear is often issued fairly haywire when it comes to sizing, and a soldier will not always get equipment that fits perfectly. That's a flaw with "standard" issue. However, when things go up the ranks more, and we're talking about highly-trained, covert special forces, these issues are not a common occurrence. Yet, in Wildlands, we have kit that does not fit our operators properly.Crye Precision G3 Combat pants: Oversized, and innacurate. The AirFlex kneepads are far too large, and not accurately portrayed. Actually, as a whole, the pants are entirely wrong, camo scheme wise and cut. They should be much slimmer, the kneepads should be smaller and the colors should actually corroborate.Multicam G3's are ALL multicam, not multicam with a gray flex point. The flex points for the knees should always match!Yes, kneepads can be swapped out, but there's no real reason to do that unless you need to replace them. Now, Crye G3's are really only offered in Multicam, Multicam Arid, Multicam Black, Multicam Tropic, AOR1, AOR2, Flektarn, Tropentarn, M81 Woodland, Khaki, Ranger Green. Most of these are commercially available, some are not. We should still have the ones that aren't commercially available, because they are made for special forces (M81, Tropentarn, Flektarn, AOR1, AOR2). I have no issue with these extra color patterns that are ingame, but focus on what actually exists first.Crye G3 Combat Shirt: Onto the next Crye Precision product to be butchered, somehow, these are just...god awfully inaccurate! First thing first, Crye has ditched the original AirFlex elbow pads for a new, hidden elbow pad system. This is most likely because the original ones had a tendency to slip out. Now, they did exist- so use an older Crye shirt for reference. The elbow pads are too elongated ingame, and once again, do not match the scheme of the camo. Now, onto the most atrocious thing about this shirt- this weird grid pattern! What is up with that? Even the All Weather version of the G3 shirt does not have this weird pattern, which I'm assuming is an attempt at representing the materials used. I can only hope this is a texture glitch, because it is horrible. First of all, the torso (chest and back) of the shirt is an entirely different material from the sleeves, shoulder and neck. The torso uses DRIFIRE, which more resembles cotton in texture, and the rest is made of Mil-Spec 50/50 NYCO ripstop, which more resembles nylon. Yes, ripstop can have a grid pattern, however it is not as nearly noticeable as it is ingame. It's obvious that this is the standard G3 Combat shirt, no the AWCS, by looking at the zipper and overall cut. Overall, the shirt looks good. It just needs more fixing.Ops-Core FAST: So this one is a bit of a tricky situation, because there are so many variations of this one helmet. The helmet is using the old VAS shroud, which looks good ingame. However, it is positioned a tad bit, very slightly, too high up on the helmet. the shroud makes direct contact with the rubber covering on the helmet, and ingame it is not touching.Actually, I think the issue is with the rubber covering being too short. It is much taller on the real helmet, and that is really throwing the proportions off.Onto the next issue, the velcro. The velcro is far too thin on the top of the helmet, it should have more width.Another flaw, the helmet seems too tall. It is too spherical, when in reality the Ops-core FAST is much more of an egg, or oval, shape.5.11 TacTec Plate Carrier: How on Earth did you mess this one up? How? Alright, first of all, the carrier itself looks okay. It may be a bit large for our characters body build, but the real issue is with how he is wearing it. He is letting it hang far too low on his body, it should be much closer to his neck than it is. Body armor protects vitals, and obviously your heart, lungs, and spine are a bit more important than your tum tum. Secure that shit. It's way too low.Camo Consistency, yikes. This is a big one. Especially since officially licensed camo, like Crye Multicam, will almost always match between equipment- because they are using Crye made fabrics. The tops are almost always way too dark, for some odd reason it looks like you went through water.Firearms have a totally different tone when it comes to the camo, this one is a bit more excusable but it still throws stuff off.The real flaw comes from the inconsistency of Multicam in general in this game, you have the standard Multicam looking far too much like Arid in some cases, and in others you have the Tropic looking like it has white in it, rather than a light tan. This doesn't look too good, and it's far too inconsistent. On some guns, I actually have to mix and match the Multicam patterns just so the guns themselves will match eachother.M81 Woodland is GOD AWFUL in this game. It looks like it came out of a fashion designers laboratory more than it looks like it came from a gear manufacturer. First of all, it is way too bright, second of all, the pattern itself is a bit too small. It's really hard to look at, as a lover of M81.CADPAT, AOR1 and AOR2 are all very ugly in this game. AOR1 and AOR2 are again, far too bright, and CADPAT looks like a low-res mess, even for digital camo.Gear availability and customization. This is where I am very upset. Two helmets? Two plate carriers? That's it? Really? No LBT 6094 or MPC? No Crye JPC, CPC? Geez, there isn't even a CIRAS? Such an iconic plate carrier, thrown away. No undercover brother slick soft body armor? Really? The lack of plate carriers is disgusting, and that's sad. I'd even take a Condor plate carrier over the ugly IBA. IBA is not worn by most special forces, actually. Two IBA variants and a TacTec, that's all we get. No. Stop that. Now, the helmets? Not even a MICH 2000? 2001? 2002? ACH? Crye Airframe? Cheeki Breeki Altyn? Come on, that's lazy. Not to mention the complete and absolute absence of any variation of helmets, or option to change what you attach to them. Let us put IR Strobes, NOD battery packs, flashlights, etc, on our fancy Team Wendy helmet, or OpsCore! Come on! You give us stupid velcro patch options but not something that actually makes sense? And don't even get me started on the complete absence of real NVG's! How are we using night vision without goggles? It looks ridiculous! Even Rainbow Six Vegas had working, animated NVG goggles! So much here, yet so little. We all, hopefully, want to see this game improve. Give us more accurate renditions, give us options. Also, the KAC vertical grip is oversized on some guns lol. Makes my M4 look like a 1:6 scale diorama. via /r/GhostRecon

Ahhhhh, what a game. I have really been looking forward to a game like this for ages. However, I feel that in some parts it is slightly lacking. So this is a list of things that I think would be nice to see as the game progresses, although I doubt we shall see most of these.Customisation -More Helmet options: Helmets such as the Crye Precision Airframe, Mich 2000 or 2001 would be great. Alongside this, more accessories on them like PVS-15's (we get that the character has NVG's, but would be pretty cool to see a working pair on helmets etc.) and MANTA IR strobe or helmet ballasts would really add to the look of the characterMore Load Bearing Equipment: We already have Crye Precision clothing, so why stop there? Would be nice to see gear such as the JPC, CPC and AVS added along with LBT's 6094, Mayflower rigs or Haley Strategic D3CR's added. Gives us more diversity.Clothing: As you can tell, I've mentioned Crye Precision a lot, and I'd like to see more camo's added to their clothing list. AOR 1 and 2 would be cool, along with the M81 woodland etc. Other options too, such as the old school BDU'sParachute customisation: Have the ability to change the colour of your parachute. Ubisoft could use the camouflage options for the clothingCustomise AI gear: It looks a bit odd when you in military gear and your AI team members are in civilian gear, so it would be cool if you could customize them to look similar to you.Guns -Add more guns such as the MK18 Mod 1, M249, HK45, MK 16, HK416, "Honey Badger" etc. (drop other weapons you'd like to see in the comments)Accessories: Great to see that they have added IR lasers such as the ATIPAL, but why stop there? Why not add Flashlights such as the WMX200, M3X or Scout light. Also, Bipods would be a nice addition for Light Machine Guns and Long Range weapons. Along with adding an accessory rail for the Bolt Action rifles so we can mount the Range Finder and ATIPAL. Maybe new stocks, flash-hiders and suppressors would be cool too see as wellLaunchers: it would be cool if you could have something like an AT4 or M72 single shot launcher as a weapon. Of course for balancing you would only have one, and they are "dumb weapons" so cannot be guided but it would give you that extra edge over UNIDAD patrols and pack a bigger punch than the Grenade LaunchersVehicles -Nothing to really complain about the vehicles, although it would be nice to be able to access the "blachhawk" style chopper a bit more (maybe have it as the final option of the vehicle drop).Air vehicle controls are a bit miffed for console, and it feels like it's built for a mouse and keyboard setup. Maybe Ubisoft could have the option to change the controls (look to battlefield for example, for a control mapping scheme). Also it would be nice to see a reticle to be able to aim the weaponsStore -Individually buy items rather than have to buy a whole pack, no one want to spend £11 on a pack when you just want one individual item via /r/GhostRecon
