GUYS WHO WANTS TO READ ONE PIECE WITH ME

I am about to yap so hard skip to the end to hear about the book club tldr

One Piece is a very cool series, but it’s also very long, so why should YOU read One Piece?

- One Piece(at the time of this post) seems to be about five years out from completion

- Geographically speaking, the Strawhats are about 95% of the way to the one piece

- One Piece has themes of freedom, happiness, and chasing your dreams, something pretty fun and optimistic for when you’re feeling down imo

- Reading One Piece after the one piece is revealed won’t be the same, that’s just the facts, me personally I want to follow their journey and be there when it ends

How long does it take to watch or read One Piece though?

Anime:

- The current anime is 436.8 hours long, or 18.2 days

- If you skip the opening and endings, it ends up being around 393.09 hours, or 16.38 days

- ONE PACE! For those of you who’d prefer to watch the series, but don’t like how long it is, check out One Pace! It’s a fan run version of the series where they cut out all the filler and extra scenes that aren’t present in the manga, as well as shortening scenes that have long paused

- One Pace is, as far as I’m aware, not completely caught up the the current anime, though it’s pretty far! 40% faster than the original anime and cuts out ~150 hours of watch time

- Disclaimer about that though, the filler and original scenes are very cool! Based on what I’ve seen, people like to watch One Pace when doing rewatches, and other times people like to watch the original show after watching One Pace to still see the original as is.

- You can watch the original series on most major streaming platforms like Netflix, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and a bunch of others, though some platforms don’t have the whole series

- To watch One Pace, just look up ‘One Pace’ and the website should be at the top, just click the watch tav and they’ll have the series organized by arc!

Manga:

- The manga is currently 1111 chapters, and Oda is currently on an extended break (3 months iirc) after the passing of Akira Toriyama, so it should stay that long up until around early summer

- “1111 Chapters?!” 1111 chapters! If you read 10 chapters a day you’d be caught up by August, though for future reference, it would take about 3.7 months from whatever day you started

- One Piece averages about 20 pages a chapter, which is actually on the lower end of the average range of 20-30 pages a chapter. Attack On Titan averages 50 pages a chapter iirc, and JJBA is actually longer than One Piece in terms of how many pages it is, though the manga is currently around 960 chapters, so pretty close that way as well!

- The average speed it takes to read a standard 22 page comic is a range of 5-10 minutes, which basically means 5-10 minutes a manga chapter

- Based on your reading speed and how much time you have on your hands, here are some ranges of how long it would take to read one piece:

50 chapters a day would take 22.22 days, with a range of 4.16-8.33 hours a day spent reading

25 chapters a day would take 44.44 days, with a range of 3.7-7.4 hours a day spent reading

10 chapters a day would take 111.1 days, with a range of .83-1.66 hours a day (~50-100 minutes)

- If you lead a busy life, try a chapter a day! It’ll take 3.04 years, and there’ll be new chapters for sure by then, but it’ll get you significantly far just by reading one or two chapters a day!

- To read the manga, you can purchase physical copies, though it’s pretty pricy even when you get the box sets, but you can find it in person at bookstores and online on Amazon and other websites, probably on the official Viz or Shonen Jump pages as well

- You can read the manga legally for free online as well! The Manga Plus app has One Piece an a whole lot of other series on there free to read. The first three chapters and the most recent three chapters are always free to read and re-read, and you can read everything for free if it’s your first time.

- What does that mean exactly? Every chapter in between has a first time ticket! You can open the chapter exactly once and read the whole chapter for free, but once you close it, you lose access unless you purchase a subscription, so be sure not to accidentally close it before you’re done!

- Of course, if you’re not interested in using Manga Plus, there are plenty of websites available at your disposal for re-reads and other such things, though be careful of suspicious websites and viruses, One Piece is long enough that it’s difficult to find the whole thing in one spot online without it getting shot down

**About OPLA (the live action)

- OPLA covers a big chunk of the East Blue Saga, and for those who don’t know, the One Piece arcs are grouped up into Sagas. If you watch/watched the LA, it reaches around episode 45 of the anime, and I believe it stops right before the Loguetown arc

- Please decide if watching the LA to get through the start of the series faster is worth it at your own discretion. (OPLA is ~8 hours, while the original anime up to episode 45 is ~16 hours.) People will always have things to say about adaptations, but as far as I’m concerned, OPLA is actually pretty well received.

- The LA has made changes to the series, but none are major or detrimental to the story. By nature of being an adaptation, some things will be missed or skipped over, so again, determine on your own what you want to

“Why do you want ME to read with YOU!?”

- I’m actually insane and am in the One Piece fandom without reading or watching!

- I’ve actually watched the LA and that one episode in August (1071), ever since that joyous episode I’ve been using OP like a crutch for my mental health, I have absolutely read well over a million words on the absolute lowest end of the range. Kind of ruined my ability to blind read haha

- That being said, I’ve only read fanfiction. There’s going to be a lot of nuances, characters, and even entire arcs that have been lost in translation that I haven’t experienced yet, so I’ll be acting as if I’m a blind reader when discussing how far I’ve gotten

“I’ve already read/watched One Piece!”

- Perfect.

- Join me on my little adventure and drop suspicious hints about what’s coming my way, I know what’s coming in theory but you know what’s next for real.

- Read/Watch it again too! If you’ve watched it, read the manga to see what got changed, and if you’ve read it you can watch it to see how the anime handles your favorite arcs and scenes!

How will we read together?

- It’s pretty simple! My goal personally is to follow the ten chapters a day pace, though I plan to bump it up when summer comes around as I’m currently a student.

- The idea isn’t that we’d all be reading at the exact same pace, but that we’re committed to something fun to do in our spare time. I fully expect that nobody will be sitting down and spending nine hours a day reading One Piece like it’s a full time job, that’s not fun, which is crazy because, how do you make One Piece not fun, how do you make a time passing hobby out to be like that??

- I’m personally going to be posting in a vaguely similar fashion one would livetweet their reactions while reading/watching something and will be tagging appropriately so that way I don’t spoil anyone I’m ahead of

- At the end of each arc/saga I think I’ll do a little summary about it and what I liked, occasionally I might drop a quick PSA on certain topics and maybe discourse?? Within the fandom??? I don’t like discourse but I can handle a couple intelligent and respectful discussions about opposing topics. Idk we’ll get there when we get there

- I’ll be making specific tags for certain things to keep it all organized as well!

TLDR; One Piece Book Club

Completing One Piece is not, in fact, an impossible task. Me personally I’m gonna try for ten chapters a day, but the goal is to go at your own pace and have fun.

That's cool! I'm going to have to listen for him around. Once you can recognize a voice actor it tend to notice them I feel, it's a pretty small community.

I hope it gets there soon! Crunchyroll doesn't have an app for my TV and I like seeing it on the big screen lol. But I do actually think I'm going to watch the dub of 98 now 😂 I literally JUST rewatched the entire series last week, but I will watch it again in a heartbeat. I love it so much, and I need more Bosch-as-Vash, like, right now

I was so mad that Hulu only had the dub for Badlands Rumble but actually it's really good for a dub so far? Vash's VA is so funny. Also the animation is much smoother than the 98 series (which I love of course but it's still fun to see the improvements in the 12 years between them)

Now Furuba S2 is over, what now?

I’m already seeing a lot of people asking for recommendations now the S2 Sub is over; so this is a list of series that I think you’ll enjoy if you like Furuba!

Whilst the trope of “the gay brother dies and the heterosexual brother learns not to be homophobic” might be over done in western media, the same is not true for Japan. It’s a heartfelt and honest look at grief and acceptance, as well as how the nature of family is changing all around the world... but attitudes are maybe conservative attitudes aren’t as quick to catch up.

Nichijou: My Ordinary Life Funimation (Dub/Sub)

So apparently everyone went “this show is undubbable! It relies too much on puns and untranslatable humour!” and then Howard Wang said “hold my beer” and did it. A bizarre comedy series set in a high school. It’s probably best known for the ongoing fight between the deer and the principal.

After tripping on the stairs, School Bad Boy Ryu Yamada and Top Student Urara Shiraishi discover they can swap bodies with a kiss! They then learn that they’re not the only ones with magic powers in the school, and with the help of the Supernatural Studies Club they begin to track down the identities of the 7 witches of Suzaku High.

This series really stretches my limits on fan service, but at least it does proceed to get a little even in terms of gender. It’s still a really rather sweet and romantic series, once you get past the boobs and panties.

Your Name Netflix (Dub/Sub) Spin Off Manga “Your Name: Another Side: Earthbound” - 2/2 volumes available in English

A modern take on the Red Sting of Fate mythos, Mitsuha and Taki are two teenagers tied together. Three times a week, Mitsuha will wake up in Taki’s body and live the life of a Tokyo School boy. In turn, Taki will wake up in Mitsuha’s body and learn what it is to be a Rural Shrine Maiden. A look at the bonds that tie us, and how fate won’t let two young people fall apart before they can meet.

Also the animation is BEAUTIFUL and it made me cry. Like a lot. There’s a spin off manga called “Your Name: Another Side” that follows the same story but from the POV of Mitsuha’s friends and family. It really brings new light to the events and made me very emotional.

Green Lanterns: Rebirth (2018)

Jessica Cruz suffers from PTSD and severer anxiety, seeing her utalising her will power to overcome those problems and harness that energy to help save the universe is so incredibly powerful and moving.

Hawkeye (2012-2015) 4 Volumes

The Fraction/Aja/Wu/Hollingworth Hawkeye run is widely considered one of the best superhero runs of all time. Fraction and Aja perfectly capture “functional depression” at its finest, and we watch as Clint Barton slowly burns all his bridges before being forced by his friends to sort his shit out and put them back together again. There’s also a whole issue that’s primarily written in sign language too.

My Roomate is a Cat Funimation (Dub) Crunchyroll (Sub) 12 eps total

Please watch the dub. Lexi Marman Cowden, who voices Shoko, is an ACTUAL hard-of-hearing actress. It makes for a more real and vulnerable performance that avoids the mild ableism of the Sub hiring a Hearing Actress and robot-ising her voice.

Yuri!!! On ICE Crunchyroll (Sub) Funimation (Dub) 12 eps total

“Yuri Katsuki makes his way to the Grand Prix ice skating competition as Japan’s top representative with his eyes on the prize. However, instead of celebrating, Yuri walks away defeated and ready to retire for good. But a run-in with champion Viktor Nikiforov and rising star Yuri Plisetsky ignites a new fire within him. With the two of them close by his side, Yuri will take to the ice once more.”

Yuri’s defeat sends him into a very relatable spiral of lack of self belief that he slowly starts to regain thanks to the help of Viktor. Part sports anime, part love story, all full of feels.

The Dub is considered hit or miss depending on whether you like accents or not, but honestly it’s worth it for Sabat’s Christophe giacometti. Ayame walked, so Christophe could strut.

What if the main batman villains were all feudal lords in Japan? What if everyone were Samari? What if Damian had a small animal companion he could communicate with using a flue? What if Jason’s hood was made out of wicker? What if Penguin had a penguin shaped mecha?

A wild ride from start to finish that makes no sense but really, do you care?

WATCH LIST FOR SUMMER 2020 〜 🌊☀️🌧

This is the first time I see so little options to watch, due to the global situation we aren’t getting the normal amount of anime for this season but luckily some that couldn’t continue during spring are coming back for this summer plus a lot of seconds seasons!

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season, I’m seriously excited for this, after the new ending from edited version I’m nervous to see what will happen now to Subaru and why everyone forgot Rem TT (Eps: ?)

En en no Shouboutai 2nd Season, first season was one of the best last year can’t wait to see my boy Shinra again! (Eps: ?)

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Kan (3rd season), I rewatched season 2 lately, and it was so emotional, I really want to see more of Hikigaya, Yukino and Yui, I hope to see more changes and a stronger relationship. (Eps: ?)

Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld 2nd Season, I’m hyped for this, I just finished watching prior seasons and I have fresh emotions waiting for more. (Eps: 11)

The God of High School, another under Crunchyroll, based on a webtoon this one is set on Korea, all began as a fighting tournament to seek out the best fighter among all high schools. It’s seems really interesting so let’s give it a try. (Eps: ?)

Kanojo, Okarishimasu, it’s a comedy romance one (a must on my list), follows college student Kazuya Kinoshita who gets a girlfriend from a mobile app, Chizuru Mizuhara. This one looks like it’s going to be really funny. (Eps: ?)

Mahou Gekuin no Futekigousha, i add this one from las minute, I don’t have much expectations for this one, hopefully it’s funny and with great characters. (Eps: ?)

Houkago Teibou Nisshi, a relaxed and funny slice of life about a fishing club. I love this one ever since episode 1, I’m glad it’s finally going to continue. (Eps: 3/12)

Digimon Adventure: 2020, I have a soft spot for DA, it always gives me a nostalgic feeling, I’m really happy it’s back. (Eps: 4/?)

Appare-Ranman!, I really like Appare his character is pretty cool for me, I know not many people where actually having a like for him, but I still thinks it’s worth watching ^^

“Anything for you”-CorpsexReader

(Not sure if this is what you wanted, but this is where it went lol)

There had never been a time where you felt as well cared for as the present. Having an immune compromised boyfriend wasn't anything new to you, however, the world had gotten scary lately. Headlines rang out left and right of new cases in your city every day. Symptoms were changing, and the up coming holiday season was making everything even scarier.

It wasn't that scary until one day you woke up with a sore throat and a mild fever. You felt the tingle in your throat and started coughing, and that's when Corpse's head popped up off of his pillow to look at you suspiciously.

"You okay?" He rubbed your lower back, "You need some water?"

You shook your head and absent mindedly rubbed your throat, as if it would help. You thought back over the days, trying to remember if you came into contact with anyone, however you didn't think so. At least not directly, or on purpose. Your mind immediately flew to corpse, who had a pretty bad immune system, and felt the panic rising inside of you.

"I'm okay," You said softly, voice hoarse, "I just think that maybe I should get tested, what do you think?"

"It probably wouldn't hurt anything to make sure," He frowned as he sat up in bed, the sheets sliding down to pool around his waist, "Let's get dressed and we'll go, okay?"

"Corpse, you don't have to go with me. I'll be fine. I don't want you to be exposed to any more germs." You said, but he held his hand up in protest.

"No. You're going to the hospital, and I'm going with you." He said as he stood up from the bed, shoving his feet into his slippers, before walking into the bathroom and shutting the door.

In no time, you were dressed in a pair of leggings and one of his hoodies, tucking your hair inside the hood. You pulled your mask up over your mouth and nose. You were sitting on the couch, shivering slightly, when he walked in, mask covering his face and the car keys in hand. Corpse never liked to leave the house, so it showed how much he was concerned about you when he didn't think twice about tagging along with you.

When you arrived at the hospital, you were told that only you were allowed back in the hospital room. He would have to wait outside. You could see the anger in his eyes, but he held back. They let him sit with you in the waiting room, but when your name was called, he had to stay seated. Stupid covid rules.

You were checked into the triage, and then immediately taken back to a small room with a bed and the normal accessories. You had to admit, you were a tad bit scared sitting back here by yourself. Hospitals made you uneasy and the fact that you were alone was enough to heighten the anxiety.

Your phone dinged, showing a message from Corpse that read, 'You k?'

You smiled to yourself and replied back, 'Yep, I'm k. Scared. You k?'

The three dots bubbled, signaling he was typing back, just as the door opened and in walked the nurse. You told her your symptoms, had your fever checked, the usual. And then came down to the dreaded test. The nurse instructed you to lower your mask and tilt your head back and she quickly inserted the long q-tip that felt like it touched the bottom of your brain. You winced as she twirled it for a few seconds, tears filling your eyes. You felt horrible and yet they just had to torture you some more. But it was quickly over, and she withdrew it from your nose, closing it up tight in a test tube.

"It'll be back in a few," She cleared her throat, "Just hang tight, okay?"

You nodded and picked up your phone, reading the two new text's. One said, 'I'm sorry baby' and the next was 'what room number?'

You looked up at the sign out side and then texted back 'Room 203. Why?'

It was a few minutes before the door opened again and you expected to see the nurse. Instead, the door opened to reveal Corpse standing there, his mask pulled up to just below his eyelids and his curly hair askewed.

"Corpse-"You shook your head.

"No, it's okay. The front desk let me back as long as I wore my mask," He shook his head as he walked closer to you. You leaned forward, resting your head on his chest, feeling his arms wrap tightly around you. You felt horrible and now your nuse burned ontop of everything.

"How'd you get them to let you back here?" You looked up at him, meeting his stare.

"I told them you didn't like hospitals, that they made you nervous." He shrugged, "She was understanding."

You laid your head back down, closing your eyes against the harsh lightning in the room. He stood there, holding you against him, for a few minutes before the there was a knock on the door and the nurse stepped in. She glanced at Corpse for a moment, before clearing her throat and turning her attention to you.

"You're negative," She said, "However, you do have a pretty bad sinus infection. The doctor has ordered you some antibiotics and a doctors note to stay home for the next three days, okay?"

You sighed in relief, as well as Corpse. It was great that you didn't have covid, but it still sucked that you were sick. The nurse handed you the paperwork, and you were free to leave finally. Thankfully, you weren't there that long.

"Do you need anything from the grocery store? Or Wal-Mart?" Corpse asked as he held your hand.

You looked over at him in the drivers seat, and felt your heart swell with so much love in that moment. He had always been the type to avoid public places, grocery stores being the bane of his existence, however; for you, he would do anything. He would go anywhere. He truly loved you, and it showed in these simple yet meaningful actions.

"I just want to go home and take a bath, if that's okay?"

"Of course, baby." He said as he brought your hand up to his lips and kissed your knuckles.

You were back home and within thirty minutes, Corpse had ran a warm bath for you, which you happily slipped into. He flipped the lights off and opened the bathroom's blinds only a tad bit to allow just enough light in so you weren't in complete darkness. You had expected him to go into his studio and edit a video, however, when you opened your eyes, you were sort of surprise to see him sitting on the floor beside of you with a laptop in his lap and a USB drive connected to it.

"You don't have to sit in here with me," You said softly, noticing he had only one side of his earphones on.

He glanced up at you and pft'd you, "Yeah right. I'm not leaving you while your sick. You'll fall asleep and that heightens the risk of you drowning. No.'

"Isn't the floor cold, though?" You laughed softly.

"A little," he nodded, his fingers clacking away on the keyboard.

He didn't have his mask on now, leaving him bare faced for you. You were always taken back by just how handsome he truly was. The messy tuft of shaggy black curls, his sharp jawline. His profile was just as beautiful as the rest of his face. You stuck a dry hand out and ran your finger over his jaw line, and then up to his hair, running your fingers through the silky strands. He smiled softly, but kept working. You would have much rathered him join the bath, but knew his work was important as well. You would get to cuddle him later. For now, you sat in the quiet darkened bathroom in a comfortable silence. Closing your eyes, you felt the aches and pains slowly disolve into the warm water. Corpse was right, you did fall asleep for a few minutes. He kept a watchful eye on you, finishing his editing on a video in about forty-five minutes. He glanced over at you as he dipped his hand in the water, noticing it had cooled down quite a bit, and that wasn't good for your fever.

"Hey, babe." He said softly, cupping your jaw in his large hand, "C'mon, you need to wake up. The water is getting cold."

And as he brought you out of your sleep, you had noticed the water was in fact pretty chilly. He grabbed a towel from the dryer that had been quietly buzzing around behind you, helping you stand up. He wrapped you in the fluffy towel and whisked you into the bedroom. He cursed himself for letting the water cool down, noticing the slight shiver you had as you got dressed. Thankfully, your hoodie was warm and the sweat pants helped warm you up quickly.

"What do you want for dinner?" You glanced over at him, "Neither of us have eaten anything today."

"No, you need to lay down. I'll fix us something." He shook his head when you started to protest, "No. I'll order something. You want some soup? Or Chinese?"

He laughed when your eyebrows lifted at the mention of Chinese, feeling your tummy start to grumble.

"General Tso chicken me, please." You wiped your nose with a Kleenex as you sat at the head of the bed, "And a egg roll."

The two of you ate, crashed onto the bed and turned the Crunchyroll app on. You knew Corpse had a hard time sleeping, but he still liked to be next to you while you laid in bed. He often times just watched television while you slept, drifting between watching whatever was on, and then staring at you. He was flipping through the titles when you seen your favorite anime pop up, Tonikawa. The meaning behind the tale was quite soft compared to Corpse's taste in anime, there was no gore or fighting. Just a silly love tale. However, it was your favorite. With a poochy bottom lip, you looked up and gave Corpse the best puppy-dog eyes you could. He laughed and pressed 'play' much to his distaste of it.

"Thank you," you said a few minutes into the epside. You rested your head on his chest and felt his hand begin to rub your back under your shirt, his warm hand heating your skin up too, "For taking care of me today. You've been the best nurse."

"Anything for you," he said softly, "I love you, you know that right?"

You nodded sleepily, feeling the effects of your bath still lulling you to sleep. Sleeping was your favorite thing to do when you were sick. You felt Corpse's lips press to your forehead, leaving a soft kiss there, as you tucked your head under his chin and moved closer to him.

"I love you too, Corpse." You said softly as you closed your eyes, hoping to feel better tomorrow.

Today, we are going to take a look at the Roku 3, which presents even more features and benefits over previous models from the Roku line, as well as over competitors like Apple TELEVISION PROGRAMS and Google Chromecast. With the hardware improvements made to the system itself, the Roku 3 can provide users with a wide variety of video resolutions, as well as high quality HD streams in 1080p. The improved brand allows for even faster menu navigation, furthermore the structure of the menus has improved dramatically from previous Roku devices; changing from a left to right scrolling formatting that most users did not care for to a much more usable grid format that allows users to group channels in whatever way they really want. The image performance is more than up to speed as well, as well as fast broadband connection that the device offers allows for primary, crisp enjoyment of whatever content you plan on enjoying. Highlights As far as content goes, many viewers will be proud of the strong selection of streaming services available through the Channel Store. All of the standard services; Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu+, and YouTube are there as well as specific niche interest including W W E Network and Crunchyroll. The search aspect allows you to enter in whatever content you are looking for by name, category, actor etc ... and find every option available on every channel you have installed. This allows you to not only find the specific content and articles you are looking for, but also gives you an idea of what the best option to look out would be. For instance, I recently wanted to watch the show Veronica Mars. Using the Roku 3 search function, I was able to find that it was available on a couple of different channels but primarily Amazon Prime had it available without additional fee, so I watched it there and saved a few cash. This feature alone makes Roku 3 better than almost every other media streaming option available. Drawbacks There really might not be many flaws with the Roku 3, as it will deliver most people's streaming media needs excellently. The one thing the fact that the Roku 3 doesn't handle very well is playing marketing from your personal library. While they do have the Plex media server app available, I have never found the software to work very well or have a very easy interface when compared to ways Apple TV integrates with iTunes. If you are looking to execute a lot of your own downloaded content, this may not be the device for you. The actual other minor issue with the Roku 3 is who, in my experience, the remote control goes through batteries very quickly. I have found it is partially prevented by laying the remote flat you should definitely in use, because the motion controls necessary for the games is obviously active and if it isn't lying flat, it will eat typically the batteries pretty quickly. Conclusion Roku 3 is without a doubt the perfect media streamer available on the market today. As more of us commit to cut the cord and get rid of cable, it will be necessary to have a device like the Roku 3 that has all of the finest streaming media services in one place. Playing your own downloaded content is a small sacrifice to make in exchange for all the Roku 3 has to offer (and if anyone knows regarding any media server apps that function better than Plex please drop me a line) and at a price point of $79 - $99 it will pay itself down in about a month when you decide to get rid of cable.

how this all started (weeb edition)

This is a preface of some random writing posts I’m gonna do next... about anime... and why I develop a certain “taste” in stories (LOL)

When I made this blog way back in 2011, I didn’t like Japanese pop culture AT ALL. I just thought most anime fan are degenerates, and so is the source media. But my mom made me and my sister watch Ghibli movies in the next year, and it kinda changed my view about Japanese (and East Asian) media in general.

However, since Ghibli is pretty mild for “otaku culture”, the most view-changing media for me is Japanese RPG horror games I found in mid 2012, the first one is Ib. Then my sister downloaded Mad Father and The Crooked Man in 2013, and well. There’s no way out ever since.

My (non childhood titles broadcasted in TV) anime encounter was started from horror & intense animes, first was Another, then AoT, Tokyo Ghoul in 2014. The one left the most impression for me was AoT, it surely deserve its fame today. However I was kind of traumatized (LOL) since I actually hate gore and blood, so I tried to find milder titles that aired that season. First time I actually watching anime was from Crunchyroll App and I found SAO II. It may sounds silly, but SAO helped me forgetting the horror of AoT XD

While SAO wasn’t my first anime series like most people, it did one of the first. So I was pretty invested with that series, and the fandom as well. That’s when I found Noragami which also aired in the same season... and one of the most impactful title for me as well. It was in 2016 and I remember how I read SAO light novels. In late 2015 I also started doing digital painting and need new fandoms to draw, as well as started reading Webtoons = my introduction to Korean media.

Thanks to SAO, I also found some references regarding a famous character called Saber from a franchise named Fate Series. I was confused what’s with the weird names?? But the characters look intriguing and there’s this artist I follow who keeps drawing Fate fanarts (and they’re look really cool) so I tried to join the bandwagon by started watching Fate/Zero in late 2016 AND BOY IT CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. FATE/ZERO LIFTED THE WHOLE ANIME STANDARD FOR ME... EVERYTHING FEELS SO BLAND AFTER I WATCHED IT... and so... I tried to consume every Fate media I can found for free (and no, not the H) until I ran out of them and... Installed FGO for the first time in March 2017.

I’ve been in Fate fandom and never, ever recovered ever since. I no longer following SAO, even when Eugeo arc was aired in 2018. I’m stuck in Fate hell. I tried to watch more seasonal animes and some considered “classics” but none can hold a candle from my impression of Fate/Zero. I started joining comic cons with friends as seller.

However, while up until now I still can’t move on from Fate/Zero, there are several anime titles I can confidently say very enjoyable. And most of them are not even from “big titles” (they have good ratings, but not THAT popular), this is what I’m gonna write in my next posts.

reactions to P5Anime ep1

WAIT A SEC! I CAN WATCH PERSONA 5 THE ANIMATION EPISODE 1 ON CRUNCHYROLL WITHOUT A PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP?!?!?! *O*!!! It just aired today/yesterdayJST! I thought I had to wait a week for the free viewing! ;U;

The direction is really choppy though. But it can't be helped, with budget restrictions and probably the assumption that this series is for an audience that already played the games anyway. But it's especially choppy between scenes. There's just no time taken to show the scenes aren't related or are related, and who they're related to, etc. I wonder if people who haven't seen the game's cutscenes before, would be able to follow along. When I tried to watch Persona 4 Golden the Animation, I was totally lost. Is that how people would feel watching this without playing the game?

And I notice all the limited animation where the videogame could afford more motion. But that's expected. Still looks pretty.

They certainly didn't need to waste any resourced writing any new music. It's ALL the music from the game. ^u^!

But wait a sec. If they didn't explain that Ren was wrongly arrested for doing essentially a good deed, BEFORE the Arsene's Awakening scene, then how is there supposed to be weight to Arsene's question, "Was the decision you made back then wrong?" Everyone fangirls over how "Akira knew Ryuji for only like 30 minutes, but already he would die for him" (and frankly, I have a soft spot for that angle because Ryuji is best boy), but in reality, the reason Akira/Ren was so resolute to save Ryuji was because Akira/Ren had to re-affirm to himself that saving someone is more important to him than being punished or killed for it. He had to reaffirm that he would make the same decision as back then. And that steeled resolve is what solidified Arsene to support Akira/Ren with power.

I know the majority of my reactions are negative, but I did have a good time with this anime episode. Aside from my nitpicks, it's good, it's beautiful, it has the original cast, and I'm having a good time. Rest assured, I spent the entire time watching this episode, clutching a big plushie VERY tightly.

I love watching Akira/Ren. I love watching Joker looking cool---SOOOO COOL! He was such a cool, beautiful, smirky sinnamon roll! The animation on him escaping the casino was the best! It was so good, I didn’t even mind that they cut out that awesome roll he did on the ground in the game’s cutscene- --the anime episode didn’t even need it, it was already so cool! I loved hearing him talk and emote. I loved how the direction implied that the light from the Metaverse app kind of hypnotized Akira/Ren into sleeping and facilitating the meeting with Igor.

I loved watching Ryuji come into the scene in a much more natural way than the game---though only a slight difference, it made a difference that mattered. I mean, I know Ryuji is impulsive, but what did he think he was going to do, running up to Kamoshida's car in the game? Warn Ann not to accept Kamoshida's ride? I think the fact that Kamoshida sped off as soon as he saw Ryuji, even though Ryuji was doing nothing but casually walking, said a lot about the conflict between them. And that foreshadowing was good. ^_^ And of course, him telling Akira/Ren to run, while he himself was getting beaten up and while he was saying aloud he didn’t want to die, was just so much more immediate in the anime, and may have better reinforced what a selfless good guy he can be, even towards someone he just met.

I loved how much more natural Ann's introduction scene was. Because that long time of staring between Ann and Akira/Ren in the game's cutscene was kind of weird. ^^; Giving her an action like plucking that flower petal from Akira/Ren's hair and commenting on her thoughts about it, was a much more immediate and interesting characterization for Ann, vs the game's "she's pretty and nice enough to not call you a weirdo for staring". In the anime's episode one, Ann's introduction scene was more "she's pretty but ALSO sensitive and observant". Yeah, that's what I got from her calling the rain a shame for pulling all the flower petals off the trees. In fact, that has implications of Ann's protective aspect, which is a big part of her motivation during the first part of the game. And this anime conveyed all that in less than a handful of lines. Impressive.

And to reiterate a 7:59 PM 4/7/2018 post of mine: I think I like this more subtle close-up of Joker smirking at the end of his Awakening, vs the videogame’s cutscene. ^.~; Don’t get me wrong, I love Production I.G., I do prefer that anime studio, and they did have the resources to put a lot more drama into every frame, but...That final reveal of Joker's transformation...? It looks super cool and everything, and could even be a poster, but...Whose perspective is this supposed to be? Maybe Kamoshida’s? But when the anime cutscene ends, the CG cutscene has Joker looking in Ryuji’s direction. o_o? It’d be pretty weird for this intimidating look to be towards Ryuji, whom he just rescued. I like how the anime series’ portrayal more conveys Joker being intoxicated with power, more than intimidating. That’s the only problem I ever had with that scene from the game. I’m glad the anime series fixed it. I hope it also fixes the characterization inconsistencies during the second half of the game.

What textbooks do you use to learn Japanese and to prepare for the JLPT?

Oh! What a lovely question!

I do have a tutor that I meet with once a week. We used the Genki series–1 and 2. I believe this is the one of two most popular textbooks to be used for teaching. It’s a great resource, and you can get used versions for pretty cheap.

I’ve been focusing on grammar studying in particular for the JLPT this year. I picked up the Nihongo Challenge for JLPT N4 Grammar & Reading Practice from White Rabbit Japan and have been working through that for the past couple of months. I’m almost done with it, but I wouldn’t suggest it as a thing to learn from–it’s best for use with a basic knowledge of the grammar it tests you on. It has very little English explanation in it. But it’s questions are setup like JLPT questions, so it’s a great way to practice for the test taking itself if you haven’t taken the test before.

To practice Kanji (and vocab), I live and die by Wani Kani. I haven’t used it in awhile, but went to it again the past two weeks, and the mnemonic + spaced repetition way of learning REALLY works. I remember the stupid idioms even after a year.

I also suggest Nihongo Master, as it covers every part of the language (except speaking). Just like Wani Kani, it’s a paid subscription, but it’s cheaper than a tutor or a class, they are great alternatives–especially if you’re into gameification of learning (which I am).

I tried JapanesePod101 for a little while. It’s probably the best listening course based learning online–but it wasn’t really for me. I like to listen to children anime like Chi’s Sweet Home (which is on Crunchyroll) to get accustomed to simple language. I tend to repeat phrases I know when I hear them.

Another MUST HAVE, 100%, drop everything and buy it RIGHT NOW, is A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar. It’s the single most important book I own right now. It has an easy index of basic grammar to refer to, explanations, and examples. It is a LIFE SAVER.

Other things I use are kanji practice books (used by actual Japanese kids–you can find them at stores like Kinokuniya), Japanese dictionary apps, I’m really in love with TangoRisto (for reading simple Japanese news articles), and Anki flashcards works for some people as well (I just don’t like setting up my own stuff).

There’s cool community driven studying tools (besides Nihongo Master and Wani Kani) like Hi!Native that allow you to interact with people and ask natives if your writing sounds natural or not… And you can help others trying to learn your language if they sound natural too! It’s pretty neat. :)

I hope that helps you out, nonny! Try out a few things and see what works for you! I tend to rotate through studying materials and types as I get bored–it’s easy to get discouraged, so try your best to keep it fun! And I’m saying that to myself right now because I really need to hear it. Haha.

Okay, so dude has a dream app on his phone he fights witches in his dreams. It’s based on some game. Or is a tie in for the game. IDK None of this matters

What matters is the direction. This show has sub-par animation, pretty awful designs, and ain’t nice to look at at all. But the way it is presented is so weird it manages to cover all that up - for good or for worse. Like there’s some really neat stuff in the directing, but then there’s also some REALLY bad stuff. Like it was trying way too hard to look cool?? I like this shot in the screenshot and the OP has some pretty awesome things going on, but there’s a lot of really heavy handed lame direction in the fight against the witch.

There a part where SPOILER main guy gets his head cut off and the way they display that is walking the line on clever and ridiculously stupid.

What a mess.

Rating: I just don’t know what this is trying to be.

Will we watch Episode 2?: And I just don’t think I’m going to find out.

The God of High School's Lead Actor Screamed in Public When He Got the Part

A wide variety of people come together to bring an anime series to life, and we're here to shine a spotlight on the talented creators behind the newest Crunchyroll Original, The God of High School.

Characters are the heart of a story, and a voice actor can make or break a character for the audience. Tatsumaru Tachibana is a relative newcomer to the world of anime voice acting, with his two previous roles being Toratarō Kobayashi in Case File nº221: Kabukicho and Shinoki Tōshirō Yoshimitsu in Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga. He recently landed a breakout role voicing the main character of The God of High School, Jin Mori. We had the opportunity to talk with Tachibana about his experience as an actor, the pressures new voice actors face representing well-loved series, and his thoughts on Jin Mori!

How did you get started in voice acting? Could you tell us about how you landed your first role?

My career as a voice actor began in earnest when I was employed by my current agency. When I landed my first role, I actually shouted, “YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!” right from the pit of my stomach.

Have you always wanted to be a voice actor?

I had been interested in voice acting ever since I was a kid. My dad was the leader of a theater troupe, so I was performing in plays and dramas with white face makeup since I was about ten. I later left the troupe to strike out on my own, and here I am.

You seem to be pretty early on in your career but you’ve already landed a lead role in The God of High School! What was the process for casting you as the lead actor?

I participated in an audition, and, a few days later, I was contacted with the news that I had been chosen for Mori’s part. I was on my way home from getting lunch after work when I found out. Even with all the people around, I freaked out and screamed, “Yes! Wait, I really got it?!” I’ll never forget that day for as long as I live.

How did you feel when you learned you would voice Jin Mori?

I was really happy, of course, but immediately after that, I felt immense pressure. This is a very popular series, and I knew a lot of people would have high expectations for it. I just kept telling myself that I would give it everything I had.

Were you familiar with the source material before joining the project?

Not familiar enough. I had no idea that such an interesting comic even existed until the day of my audition. The God of High School only recently became available to read on manga apps in Japan. We have about 130 chapters available now, but I heard that a lot more chapters are available in other countries! I can’t wait to read more of it.

Tell us a bit about Jin Mori. What do you think is his biggest motivation as a character?

After playing him in the anime, I’d say he’s motivated by the fun he gets out of fighting strong opponents in order to get stronger himself. I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s obsessed with fighting, but I think fighting and getting stronger mean the same thing to Mori that improving in a game or sport means to many of us. Of course, there are some moments when that’s not the case, though.

Is there something about Jin Mori that you identify with? How do you get into the mindset of becoming this character when you act?

I just tell myself to have fun and give it all I’ve got. I was so nervous and stiff during the dubbing for the first episode that the sound director came into the booth personally to calm me down. I was told after that, “don’t hold anything back, just go for it,” so I made up my mind that if I went too far and got yelled at, I’d cross that bridge when the time came, and I’ve been portraying Mori the way I want to ever since. Director Sunghoo Park also put in orders for me to do some ad-lib, and I feel like I’ve gotten better at thinking on my feet by trying to do that as well as I could. It was a really fun job!

Is it hard creating new voices for each new character you take on? How do you ensure that each one is unique?

I’ve never gone into a role thinking, “I need to create a new voice!” so if I had to say one way or the other, I don’t think of it as something that’s difficult for me. I spend more time thinking about how I personally would portray that particular character and the presence they have, then try it out with my voice and think some more.

Could you describe what a typical day for a voice actor is like? What is it like to be in recording sessions?

I’m still too new at this job to have the right to describe a voice actor’s typical day, so I’m going to pass on this one (sweat). I always feel nervous when I’m doing dubbing, but it’s also a lot of fun!

If you had to participate in The God of High School competition, which martial art would you want to specialize in?

I don’t like pain, so I’d use aikido to evade attacks and get away from my opponents.

Do you have any advice for people who want to become voice actors?

Perseverance pays! I’ve felt that particularly strongly in this industry.

Would you like to give a message to fans of the manhwa around the world and people who are excited to watch the anime?

Hi, everyone! I’m Tatsumaru Tachibana! I’m as excited for the broadcast as all of you! It’s an anime that’s funny, cool, and packed with intense battles all at once! The art and music are both amazing, too! Look forward to seeing it! Let’s all hype up The God of High School together!!!
