The Danish Emerald Parure
Perhaps the jewel in the Queen’s crown collection is her Emerald Parure.
Created in 1840 for Queen Caroline Amalie, the set includes a tiara, a necklace, earrings, and a corsage brooch.
27 of the diadem’s emeralds date back to 1723, making the collection incredibly historically significant.
While the colour is in-keeping with the current Queen Margrethe’s more outlandish style, we can see Crown Princess Mary reaching for the tiara or earrings for big state events.
The Danish Ruby Parure
Crown Princess Mary has already made herself familiar with this unique piece.
Like a naughty daughter venturing into a mother's wardrobe, Mary has not waited until her ascension to borrow this spectacular ruby set even adorning the headpiece for her and Crown Prince Frederik's official ascension portraits.
Made for the coronation of Napoleon in 1804, the parure includes the intricately designed crown, necklace, brooch, and earrings.
The Danish Crown Diamond Parure
This necklace, brooch, and earring set has timeless beauty.
Made for Queen Caroline Amalie in 1840, the parure is reserved only for the most significant occasions, such as the wedding of Mary and Frederik in 2004.
As such, the pieces will undoubtedly hold a special place in both Margrethe and Mary's hearts.
The Floral Bracelet Choker
The choker has recently come back into fashion, and Margarethe shows this floral piece off well in a boat-necked gown.
This is one of Margrethe's favourite pieces, leading us to wonder if she will part with her jewels as well as the crown on Sunday.
The timeless piece belonged to Queen Louise of Sweden and was initially designed as a bracelet, though the always-innovating Margrethe started wearing it as a choker in the 1980s.
The Crown Pearl and Ruby Parure with the Floral Aigrette Tiara
This parure is an extensive set, including a large pearl necklace, pearl, ruby and diamond earrings, two pearl clasps, and two ruby and diamond links.
The parure was worn here with the Floral Aigrette diadem.
The leafy diamond structure was acquired by King Frederik IX for Queen Margrethe's mother in the 1960s.
The piece is versatile and can be separated to lessen the overall effect, which may be favourable for Mary's more subtle style.
Queen Margrethe has revealed that her hairdresser enjoys styling her hair using the dazzling pieces.
The Turquoise Daisy Bandeau
This girlish beauty has already been passed along to Mary.
The flowery headpiece is elegant and playful, featuring a band of delicate daisies in a bold aquamarine.
The Palmette Tiara
This curly crown is more effeminate than Mary's current fashion would indicate. Having said that, its intricate beauty and alluring sparkle is undeniable.
The tiara is made up of diamond palmettes and flowers, set upon a link-effect diamond base.
The piece was created in 1856 for Princess Louise of Prussia when she married Grand Duke Frederick.
Queen Ingrid lent Queen Margrethe the diadem in the 1960s, before she officially inherited it on her mother's passing in 2000.
Most notably, she has worn it to the wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and the wedding of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway.

Tiaras of the future Queen Mary
I love a good list and @duchessofostergotlands requested one of the tiaras that Mary will wear as queen. As usual I had a lot to say.
Crown Jewels
Queen Caroline Amelie's Emerald Tiara
Denmark is unusual among modern monarchies in that they still have wearable jewelry in their crown jewels. There is a diamond set, a pearl and ruby set, and of course the beautiful emerald parure. This tiara cannot be taken outside of Denmark and is only worn by the queen. I really hope Mary wears it for her first official portrait as queen.
Major Tiaras: Non-Restricted
Princess Louise's Pearl Poiré Tiara
This tiara has only been worn by Queen Margrethe during her reign but previously was worn by crown princesses and princesses. It is a very important tiara but I wouldn't mind Queen Mary loaning this one occasionally to other people like Christian's future wife.
Queen Désirée's Ruby Parure Tiara
Queen Ingrid kept this tiara even after her husband passed and then left it to Crown Prince Frederik for his future wife so it was never worn by Queen Margrethe. I expect Crown Princes Mary will continue wearing this tiara for now as the parure was extensively remodeled to suit her. When Christian marries, she may decide to pass it on to his wife establishing it as the de facto crown princess tiara, keep wearing it herself, or ideally keep wearing it while also loaning it the future crown princess.
Minor Tiaras
We don't yet know how Queen Margrethe will handle passing on her jewelry. In other countries with recent abdications, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands still attends tiara events but Queen Paola of Belgium and Queen Sofia of Spain do not. If Margrethe decides to keep attending them she may hold on to some of these for a while.
Grand Duchess Louise of Baden's Palmette Tiara
This isn't my favorite tiara in the Danish vault because of the way it ends so abruptly instead of tapering off. Queen Mary's going to have to pull off some great tiara hair to cover that up.
Crown Princess Margaret's Turquoise Daisy Tiara
Queen Mary looks good in turquoise but I'm really looking forward to seeing this tiara on Princess Isabella and Princess Josephine.
Queen Ingrid's Floral Aigrette Tiara
I've loved the way Queen Margrethe played around with this tiara but I am looking forward to Queen Mary putting it back on a tiara frame like Queen Ingrid wore it.
Queen Margrethe's Naasut Tiara
Queen Margrethe was given this tiara by Greenland in 2012 and I have been waiting for day it is worn by Queen Mary. I think the delicate gold flowers are really going to look great against her dark hair.
Personal Tiaras
Wedding Tiara
Queen Margrethe gave this tiara to Crown Princess Mary as a wedding gift and Mary later had optional pearls added.
Ruby & Spinel Necklace Tiara
Mary bought herself this tiara at an auction and debuted it 2015. I think it was a very smart move because it was only 8050 EUR (probably less than some of her gowns) and it will be a great piece for her children to wear in the future.
Every country and monarch handles jewelry a little differently. Queen Margrethe gave each of her daughters-in-law a tiara but did not share any of her tiaras with them. She did share with her nieces (the daughters of her two sisters) when her sisters didn't have enough tiaras to loan them for events. I would like to see the future King Frederik X and Queen Mary change how the jewelry is dispersed.
First of all they need to stop giving away jewelry. The mainline has already lost the Queen Alexandrine's Diamond Drop Tiara to the Countess of Frederiksborg and Princess Dagmar's Diamond Floral Tiara to Princess Marie. Those are both beautiful, versatile tiaras that would have served the family well in the future. In the previous generation, Princess Benedikte was given Queen Sofia's Star & Pearl Tiara and her Floral Birthday Tiara made from other jewelry and Queen Anne Marie was given Crown Princess Margaret's Khedive Tiara and her Antique Corsage Tiara made from other jewelry. There's no reason to give away tiaras anymore to people whose descendants will have little reason to wear them.
Then to make up for not giving away any jewelry there needs to be more sharing! I don't want to see the same person wear the same tiara to every event. Queen Mary will have the Emerald Tiara exclusively and then may choose to keep the Pearl Poiré Tiara and Ruby Parure Tiara to herself but everything else should be shared among her daughters, daughters-in-law, and other members of the extended Danish Royal Family. It would make things so much more interesting.

The Queen’s Treasury
A new documentary series about Danish royal jewelry is airing tonight on DR1. It will feature items from both of the recent exhibitions, 'A Queen’s Jewelry Box' celebrating Queen Margrethe's Golden Jubilee at Amalienborg Palace and 'Mary & The Crown Princesses' celebrating Crown Princess Mary's 50th birthday at Koldinghus along with the permanent exhibition of the Danish crown jewels at Rosenborg Castle.
All four half hour episodes are available to watch even outside of Denmark on DR's website here. There are captions but the Google translate trick isn't working on them. Even without understanding what they are saying I highly recommend watching. The shots of the jewels themselves are absolutely stunning and there's also lots of old footage of Queen Ingrid and young Queen Margrethe wearing them to various events.
The tiaras included are the Emerald Parure Tiara, Pearl Poiré Parure Tiara, Ruby Parure Tiara, Queen Alexandrine's Sapphire Tiara, and Queen Ingrid's Floral Aigrette Tiara (which is way more flexible than I imagined) along with a lot of other jewelry.
Episode 1: Jewelry That Speaks
"Even a tiny brooch can hold a story so big." When the queen wears jewelry, nothing is random, and museum director Thomas Thulstrup will show this with the exhibition "A Queen's Jewelry Box". When does the queen wear plastic earrings? And when are crown jewels chosen? Through personal stories from the Queen, we get closer to the impressive jewelry collection the Queen has at her disposal. At Koldinghus, Crown Princess Mary comes to visit to follow the creation of the exhibition Mary and the Crown Princesses.
Episode 2: Queen of Denmark
How do you choose jewelry for big events when you have the Kingdom's most wonderful jewelry set at your disposal? And what has Graasten Castle and Queen Ingrid's passion for flowers meant to Queen Margrethe? At Amalienborg, museum director Thomas Thulstrup, in collaboration with a floral artist, will create a sea of flowers in the ceiling, which will symbolize the garden at Graasten Castle. And for the exhibition Mary and the Crown Princesses, the Crown Princess will take part in important film recordings, which will be shown at the exhibition.
Episode 3: Love Gifts
The many months of work bear fruit for the Royal Collection, as the exhibition "Mary and the Crown Princesses" opens at Koldinghus with visits from the Crown Prince Couple and the rest of the royal family. At Amalienborg, museum director Thomas Thulstrup's idea of making a large silk ribbon float weightlessly in the totally protected space must be brought to life. And from Rosenborg's treasury, Thomas Thulstrup and the Queen take a closer look at one of the objects that are frequently used by the Royal House; the baptismal font in gold.
Episode 4: Woman & Monarch
How do you wear breast stars and arrange when you are in a silk dress and taffeta skirt at the same time? In the Gallasalen, jewelry is displayed, which the Queen wears in her official role - and in this very role the Queen has had to find her own expression, because there have never been female monarchs in Denmark. This is the final sprint for the Royal Collection before the opening of the exhibition A Queen's Jewelry Box. Many details must be in place, because everything must play a role when museum director Thomas Thulstrup has to show the exhibition in front of the royal family.

Hey ! So what tiaras does the danish royal family have ? I've only seen very few like only 6 or 7 tiaras , and for a royal family so old I expected there to be more ! . Are there tiaras that aren't worn ? And why ? And what tiara/s do you think each of Mary And Fred's kids will be given ? And which do you think they will wear on their wedding day ? I'd appreciate it if you attach pictures. Thank you .
The Danish Royal Family are about average in terms of how many tiaras they own. The reason they don’t have more tiaras is because they don’t have their jewels in a foundation and each generation tiaras leave the mainline of the family through inheritance. This kind of system worked fine when royals used to marry other royals and each new bride would have tiaras gifted to her, replenishing the family’s collection but that doesn’t really happen anymore. Queen Margrethe realized after Joachim & Alexandra’s divorce that the old way wasn’t going to work anymore so the tiara she gave Marie is only a loan and I expect the that practice of giving loans will continue in the future so that tiaras don’t leave the mainline permanently. As far as I know there aren’t any tiaras that aren’t worn. Click on the name of each tiara below for more information and pictures.

Ruby & Diamond Necklace Tiara
What the family needs to do in the future is create a foundation or trust to protect the jewels from being dispersed further. This would also mean that they could share the jewels more freely and we wouldn’t have to see the same princess wear the same tiara at every single event. I would like to see the family try to reacquire some tiaras that have left the family like the three tiaras from Queen Alexandrine and the Thyra Sapphire Tiara that belongs to Princess Elisabeth. For the tiaras that will be given to Frederik & Mary’s children, Christian will obviously receive the Ruby Parure and the other two will go to two of the younger children. I could see her wedding tiara going to Vincent in particular because his sisters won’t need a wedding tiara because they will wear the Khedive as female descendants of Queen Ingrid. Both of Mary’s smaller tiaras are convertible to necklaces making them much more useful as pieces that will be eventually inherited out of the family. I expect her to purchase one more tiara before her children come of age so that she will have a tiara to give to each of her children without taking any from the family’s collection.
