I still don't understand why Corus hasn't got the actual WBB ep "Crowbar Jones: Origins". I mean even on Teletoon+ it's not actually there.

I can’t believe that Crowbar Jones was created a la Captain America. And I’m really loving the sets and Panda playing Pando.

Richard Armitage interview in Radio Times (23/06/21)
Full transcript under cut
Richard Armitage can’t quite believe just how prescient Anton Chekov was. Uncle Vanya, he thinks, could have been written yesterday. The 49-year-old actor who stars in a filmed version of the recent West End production of Chekov’s masterpiece in which he appeared with Toby Jones, says the playwright’s prophetic qualities really began to crystallise soon after the play opened at the Harold Pinter Theatre in January last year just as the world was first gripped by the pandemic.
Armitage, who plays Astrov, a doctor who is troubled by the suffering he has witnessed, recalls, “Early on in the play, Astrov has a speech about ministering to patients during an epidemic. He talks about seeing people dying on the floor in barns and bodies piling up. At the time, I was doing loads of improvisation because I had no idea what that looked like.”
And then, “In the last two weeks of the production before we shut down in March, we started to see these images coming in from Italian hospitals. I would start this speech, and you’d hear this slight intake of breath from the audience, it was exactly what everyone had been watching, in real time on the news, ten minutes before setting foot in the theatre. This fear had suddenly risen in everybody.”
That is not the only area in which Chekov was astonishingly far-sighted. The 1898 play, which is adapted by Conor McPherson and focuses on the crumbling lives and unrequited loves of Astrov, Vanya (Toby Jones) and Sonya (Aimee Lou Wood), features another impassioned speech by the doctor – this time about how brutal deforestation is destroying the world. This theme, too, could have been ripped from today’s headlines.
Armitage says few could credit the topicality of this strand of the play. “What’s really interesting is that even some of the reviewers felt like Conor had crowbarred in a very modern message to try and bring the play up to date. However, when you go back to the original text, Chekov was in fact writing about this 123 years ago. He was surrounded by a whole movement of people who were vegetarian and who would gather and talk about the damage that human beings were doing by deforesting Russia.
“I was so astonished that they knew about this more than a century ago. He says, ‘In 150 years, people are going to look back on us and say, why didn’t they do something then?’ Chekov’s prescience is really remarkable.”
To research this aspect of Astrov’s personality, Armitage went to Tring in Hertfordshire to help with a Woodland Trust project to plant one million trees in a day. The actor admits, “Sometimes people think these exercises are irrelevant or pretentious, but as well as being a fun day out, I found it really useful.”
He has previous experience when it comes to researching roles in depth, and attracted a lot of attention when in 2008, as part of his preparation for the part of MI5 agent Lucas North in Spooks, he asked to be water-boarded himself.
Armitage now puts that down to youthful eagerness., “Considering one of my greatest fears is deep-water drowning, I just don’t know why I would have put myself through that! I lasted about 30 seconds before I pulled the cloth off my face. Maybe it was one step too far. I think today I might just use my imagination! Weirdly, people thought that is was some kind of publicity stunt, but it really wasn’t. It was genuinely me thinking it would help.” The insurer’s probably have something to say about it, too? “Yes, you’re barely allowed out of your trailer these days.”
He is currently in production on Stay Close, his second adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel for Netflix after The Stranger, although Armitage, who hails from Leicestershire, started out as a dancer in musicals such as Cats, 42nd Street, and Annie Get Your Gun. Might he ever go back to musical theatere?
The actor feels that the time may be right. “I think people right now are going to need to be uplifted, entertained, warmed and heartened. I think they want to sing and dance and clap. Yes, part of me would love to go back and do a musical.”
In person, Armitage is charming and witty, and laughs a lot. He is also appealingly modest, downplaying his fame in a very British way. “I go out half-washed, looking pretty raggle-taggle because I think no one will recognise me. Then someone will pull me aside and go, ‘I loved you in The Stranger’ and that really warms my heart. But I also think, ‘Oh God, I should have brushed my hair. I look a complete mess!’.
This feels far from the brooding image he has frequently been saddled with. “I’m often asked to channel misery” he says. “I don’t know why because I’m not a miserable person! But producers ask me, ‘Will you come and play this terribly miserable role?’”
The other type of role that Armitage is invariably invited to play is the action hero. Does Armitage see himself in that macho light? “I never did, but somehow the industry did. I’m the most pacifist person you could ever meet, but I’ve always been asked to point a gun at somebody and punch somebody in the face, which has always baffled me. I must give off this aroma of violence!
I think it probably something to do with my build, and maybe I’ve got quite an angry-looking face. In another universe, there is a version of me that is a light-hearted comedic actor in romcoms. But in this universe, I’m that action guy.”
However, his legions of fans may be disappointed by the news that the actor is handing back his action-man credentials. “I’m hitting 50 this year, and I think maybe I won’t be taking my shirt off and throwing punches anymore. I think I’ve probably got something else to offer in the next decade.”
So he can confirm it is official that he will no longer be talking his shirt off? “Absolutely – unless the part requires saggy breasts and a fat belly!”

The new we bare Bears movie came out as originally scheduled on Amazon Prime video. People who have purchased it are in discussion about it, this includes me. I'll avoid any direct spoilers but one thing I do want to share is that the ending credit sequence has some very interesting things.
Second it's been confirmed this is pretty much the end of the baseline show. there is a spin-off series promising to focus on the baby bears.
Which kind of makes sense
the adult Bear episodes had long since moved far afield of the equivalent of a power Trio of outsiders encountering weird s*** and enjoying life and trying to make their way as outsiders. By the end of season 4 Grizz had starred in a B-movie and was the production head of a series of, admittedly z-list, direct-to-video or streaming projects with the crowbar Jones series including internet famous celebrity n o m n o m. This is in addition to being recommended through a professional Health Organization as a therapy animal amongst other things.
Simply put these guys aren't just everyday guys let alone Outsiders less than everyone anymore
There's some stuff that they could come back to for later and I would ultimately say that this movie is Grizzly's movie. It pretty much opens on his mindscape.
But all of this is just an elaborate excuse for me to do one thing
share the end credit song which is a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Everywhere by Roosevelt
https://youtu.be/JYMXndhJX8E
youtube
I feel that the mood and energy very much is practically made for the show and it's a great happy ending for the movie. Hope that's not too much of a spoiler yeah the movie has a happy ending

No singing allowed
Victor Hugo’s epic novel Les Misérables might be best known for its musical adaptations, but a new small-screen adaptation produced for the BBC and Masterpiece on PBS feels more like a western, as exec producer Bethan Jones and director Tom Shankland explain.
When Victor Hugo sat down to write his epic 19th century novel Les Misérables, including in it a searing indictment of the divide between rich and poor and the travails of revolutionary political movements, he was probably considering a more distinguished legacy than an often-derided musical in London’s West End.
For when one thinks about Les Misérables, it is the bathetic tones of I Dreamed a Dream and carefully choreographed dance-acting that spring to mind. And although Anne Hathaway’s rendition of I Dreamed… in the 2012 Hollywood film did give a sense of the pain and despair her character Fantine was supposed to be feeling, the fact remains that this ambitious novel is often reduced to a collection of show tunes and the diminutive appellation ‘Les Mis.’
This is one of the reasons adaptation supremo Andrew Davies (Bleak House, Pride & Prejudice, Middlemarch) has taken on the project for UK pubcaster the BBC and Masterpiece on PBS in the US, alongside producers Lookout Point and BBC Studios, which is also distributing. When discussing the adaptation a few years back at the Hay Festival, Davies called the musical a “shoddy farrago” of Hugo’s original work, adding that he hoped his take would champion the book for its depth.
“Andrew loves being contentious, that’s his thing,” says Bethan Jones, exec producer on the series for BBC Studios. “For me, you take a big book like this and you adapt it to the form you are servicing. Inevitably, the musical has to have its baddies, its goodies, its romantic interests – it has to follow that journey. It has a certain amount of hours to fill and you have to tell a musical story. A film adaptation will be a very different thing again. What we’ve got in six hours is the opportunity to dig down a little bit more into those characters than potentially shorter adaptations have time to do; to explore the relationships and themes between the characters and their particular journeys.”
Part of this sharper focus on the source material is a strict ‘no singing’ policy, with Davies pointedly declaring at Hay that his cast would not “yell great things like they do in the musical.” Jones diplomatically says the musical and the BBC series – which lands on screens in early 2019 – are “two very different, but equally valid” ways of representing the book.
Pared down, Les Misérables tells the story of prisoner Jean Valjean and his continuous battle with police inspector Javert following his release from prison for stealing bread. After further run-ins with the law, Valjean attempts to change his ways and live life as a decent man. Interspersed with his long road to redemption are stories of family, love, rebellion and commentary on the social and political class system of post-revolutionary France. Its intricate plot has spawned – beyond the aforementioned takes – more than 60 adaptations across film and television, which raises another question about the BBC’s forthcoming production – do we need another?
Jones reiterates Davies’ desire to go back to Hugo’s original text and “draw out more of the real stories, themes and characters” and the book’s timelessness as justification. “We also felt it was timely in as much as while there is still poverty, hardship and degradation in the world, books like this will still be relevant. It feels timely to be looking at a classic text that deals with a complicated period and the division of rich and poor but through the eyes of brilliant characters.”
Director Tom Shankland (The City & The City, The Missing, Ripper Street) admits he hadn’t seen a single adaptation of the book before he took the helm, and thus hopes his is a fresh perspective. “For me, it felt like an epic western,” he says. “I’ve always loved westerns. There are all these fantastic characters – the bad sheriff, the wanted man, the hunted fugitive. It was everything I loved about that genre – the adventure and emotion of that.” Simply being thrilled by the plot isn’t enough to hook a director completely, Shankland points out, but he was snagged “emotionally and thematically” by Valjean’s quest for redemption and a “simple desire to be good in a bad world.”
The BBC has assembled a premium cast for the series, with The Affair star Dominic West taking on Valjean, Selma’s David Oyelowo playing Javert, Lily Collins as destitute young mother Fantine and Adeel Akhtar and Olivia Colman as petty criminals the Thénardiers. “David absolutely felt there was something around Javert’s role as a bit of a thwarted outsider with frustrations and drive to move up in the world, as well as being this person with a real ideological commitment to the belief that people are either born wicked or good,” Shankland says. “He kept on looking and finding, in extraordinary ways, the humanity – however twisted and bitter – in Javert. By the end, I’m almost in tears for him. In my wildest dreams, I wasn’t sure we’d get to that place with a character like that. David dug so deep.
“When I watch what Dominic does to take Valjean to this unbelievably brutalised place, which is almost a wordless, inhuman place, to where he ends, he makes me believe every part of that journey.”
Davies has a knack of turning a classic literary work into a TV drama that resonates cinematically and does not seem anachronistic. In 2016, he received universal acclaim for his BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s epic historical novel War & Peace, in which he successfully brought chaotic battle scenes, aristocratic opulence and sweeping landscapes of 19th century Russia to the small screen. Furthermore, within that epic scope, Jones says Davies has a rare ability to portray relatable characters that “speak to” a contemporary audience.
“Andrew’s scripts made these characters feel modern. That was nothing to do with having them speak in a very modern way or changing their behaviour, he just found the humanity and earthiness of it,” Shankland says, recalling a scene in which Fantine and her companions urinate in a Paris park. “I thought, ‘Oh god, they’re going to pee in Les Misérables, that’s exciting.’ It was these little things that Andrew did to make these people feel real and have an immediate presence that made me think that it wouldn’t be like doing a conventional, polite period piece. We’d be doing something that had a real connection with today.”
Filming has taken the production to far-flung areas of the French-speaking parts of Europe, from southern Belgium to Sedan in the Ardennes region of north-eastern France. In Sedan, Shankland says, they found back streets acutely reminiscent of the period Hugo was writing about. Jones and Shankland both note that the filming of key scenes, such as the political uprising, where students revolt and erect barricades in the narrow streets of Paris, were inspired by contemporary riots such as those that took place in London in 2011 and in Northern Ireland during the Troubles in the 1960s.
“I wanted the images to resonate with the audience, so they’d be thinking, ‘Oh hang about, that doesn’t feel like [post-revolutionary France] even if they might have guns that are somewhat 19th century,’” Shankland says. “Actually, what happened in a street battle – the energy, fear and chaos of that – is very modern. I tried to let modern events into the imagery. In some ways, we never thought of it as a period piece.”
“It does speak to that modern world. It’s not the French revolution; it’s a small, failed skirmish. That’s the tragedy of it. It’s a group of people desperately trying to assert themselves in a situation where the state is so much bigger than them. That’s still very relevant,” Jones adds.
Considering Les Misérables’ hard-hitting topics, one might expect the series to comprise six hours of unremitting tension and misery. But Shankland is quick to reassure this isn’t the case. “For all that the story is full of these epic, intense themes, there’s so much humour in it, and not in a way that I felt was ever crowbarred in. However dark times are, there’s always room for lightness and romance. It’s just a beautifully textured piece.” And all without a songbook in sight.

Captain Swan is My Favorite Rom Com: Priceless (1/?)
Since the prologue was so short, I wanted to get this chapter to ya’ll quickly. Emma still hasn’t shown up yet (not really), but just stick with me! This one is all Brothers Jones. I wrote a lengthy explanation of why I decided to do this particular au when I posted the prologue, for those who missed it. Much love to @xhookswenchx for being my beta!
Summary: Desperate men can find themselves in places they never thought they would go, but for Killian Jones it would finally force him to be the hero his daughter always thought he could be. The job was simple: drive the truck, don’t open the back, don’t ask questions. But Killian Jones has never followed instructions very well . . .
Rating: M for mature themes
Trigger warnings: This story is about human trafficking, so there is non-con, rape, prostitution, sexual exploitation, and violence, some of it involving minors. Those who know me and my writing, you know I will not be graphic nor will I portray these things as positive. Still, know what you are about to read! This also has Knightrook and a young Alice, but her mother is Milah, not Gothel.
Can also be read on Ao3 and is part of my series Captain Swan is My Favorite Rom-Com: 2nd Edition. There is also the original series from a couple of years ago.

One thing I have to clarify right from the beginning is that I never meant for Liam to get involved. Unfortunately, he’s never stopped thinking he has to take care of me. From the moment our father left when I was eight, he’s taken the care of his “little brother” onto his shoulders. And though those shoulders are no longer as slender as they were at eleven, they still carry way too much. I certainly didn’t want him carrying this too.
“Liam, seriously, I don’t need a babysitter!”
“Where did you even get this job, Killian?”
I clenched my jaw and avoided his gaze. Of course, that probably only made him worry more. “Will Scarlett knew a guy who knew a guy . . . “
“Seriously, Scarlett? Are you kidding me?” Liam paced the room, nervously tugging at his hair. It was a nervous tick that ran in the Jones family. “Be straight with me. Is it drugs?”
I shook my head firmly. “I made it clear to Will that I wouldn’t get mixed up in that sort of thing. He swore it isn’t drugs. I know you don’t like him, but Will at least would never double cross a friend.”
“So why all the secrecy?”
I swallowed hard. I knew it could only mean that whatever I was transporting wasn’t legal. I was no fool. “I figure the less I know, the better.” Liam was going to fall through the floor soon at the rate he was pacing. “I’m desperate, Liam! I need something better than crashing on your couch, or I’ll never get Alice back.”
Liam’s expression softened. “So you pick the truck up from the docks, drive it to Vegas . . . “
“And that’s it. I’m five thousand dollars richer.”
Liam crossed his arms across his chest. “I’m still going with you.”
“That isn’t part of the deal -”
Liam silenced me with one raised hand. “I’m not asking for a cut. I just think you at least need someone to help you drive. I mean, it’s a cross country trip for heaven’s sake! I don’t want you driving off the road in the middle of Nebraska because you fell asleep at the wheel.”
I always hated it when he was right.
******************************************************
We picked up the truck at Boston harbor just where Will said it would be. It was plain white; a modest sized box truck. I couldn’t help noticing the padlock on the back. Liam caught my eye and raised an eyebrow.
“They want to be sure we don’t sneak a peek.”
I ignored Liam’s pointed look as I got behind the wheel. I wondered if he’d contemplated the possibilities of what we were transporting. I sure as hell hadn’t. I didn’t want to know, plain and simple. Every time I was tempted to wonder, I thought of Alice.
My brother and I were silent until we made it out of Boston traffic and were on a stretch of interstate. Then he twisted in his seat to face me.
“Why the desperation?”
I glanced at him. “What do you mean? My daughter is growing up without me. What more is there to say?”
“But you’ve been doing all you can, picking up part time work, pounding the pavement for more interviews. You visit her every chance you get, and you know Tiana is for you.”
I shifted in my seat, kneading the steering wheel with my fingers. “I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
“What do you mean?”
I sighed as I rubbed at my temple. We weren’t even out of Massachusetts yet and Liam was already giving me a headache. “She wants to adopt Alice.”
“She can’t do that!” Liam exclaimed. “You’d have to sign over your rights!”
“For a formal adoption, yes, but a judge can grant Tiana permanent custody. It’s almost the same thing. She says I’m no good for Alice. That I break promises.”
Liam shook his head, and I could tell he was trying to reign in his temper. “You’re doing the best you can. That time you missed her school play, it was only because your boss threatened to fire you if you didn’t come in to cover that shift.”
I scoffed. “Then he fired me anyway when he found out I had a record.” I gave Liam a long look. “Now do you see why I couldn’t pass this up?”
*****************************************************
Have you ever driven from Boston to Vegas? Almost three thousand miles, forty long hours, and let me tell you, the American Midwest is . . . well, it’s not the most fascinating drive in the world. Liam wasn’t kidding about falling asleep halfway through Nebraska. Even with the two of us sharing the driving, it was getting harder and harder to keep our eyes open, but whoever was waiting for our delivery in Vegas had been very clear: drive straight through, no stops except for gas and bathroom breaks.
It was my turn to drive, and the highway was a lonely stretch of road, nothing but fields of wheat and prairie grass for miles ahead. That humming, hypnotic sound of the engine and the spinning tires was pulling at my eyelids no matter how hard I tried. Liam was snoring beside me, and I didn’t want to wake him. I rolled my shoulders, slapped my cheeks and turned up the air conditioning. The radio, unfortunately, was busted.
The glare of the setting sun helped keep me awake for about an hour, but once the sun went down fully, I was in trouble. I felt my head loll, and I shook it. My eyelids drooped, and I forced them wide. But at some point, I lost the battle, and the next thing I knew, the sight through the windshield wasn’t the yellow lines stretching along the asphalt. The truck’s headlights shone on tall prairie grass and the wheels bounced along rough terrain. Liam awoke and shouted in alarm as I put on the breaks. I was trying to keep the truck steady, but we still fishtailed a little before finally coming to a jerking stop.
And that’s when we both heard it: the screams from the back of the truck.
I turned towards my brother, and I knew my eyes were probably as wide as his, my face just as pale.
“Did you hear that?” Liam whispered.
We both fell silent, straining to hear. It was faint, but I thought I heard . . .
“Is someone crying?” I asked.
Liam was out of the truck before I could finish the question. I jumped out as well, slipping on the loose soil as I raced around to the back of the vehicle. Liam was already yanking at the padlock. I pounded my fists against the door.
“Anyone in there?”
Liam stopped as we both awaited an answer. Nothing. Liam’s face was a picture of anguish, and I was sure mine was no better. My lips set in a grim line, I marched to the cab of the truck and rooted around inside. Behind the seat was a tool box, and I pulled out the sturdiest thing I could find – a crowbar. The padlock was old and slightly rusted in places, so I hoped it would give. After my first whack of the crowbar, screams came once again from inside the truck.
“We’re not going to hurt you,” Liam called out, “we’ve got to make sure you’re okay back there.”
He nodded, and I continued pounding at the lock. Finally, it gave, and Liam quickly opened the roll up door. The crying was louder now, and as we squinted into the dark interior, I thought I saw three figures huddled in the back. I pulled up the flashlight app on my phone and shined it inside. I was shocked at what I saw; a large bottle from a water cooler, almost empty; several dirty blankets; a bucket; and the crumpled remains of food packages.
But the worst thing were the three young women clinging to one another and squinting in the sudden light. I wasn’t transporting illegal goods. I was transporting people.

Day in Fandom History: August 7…
Grizz pays Nom Nom a visit at his place and pitches an idea of his film that he made in the “Crowbar Jones” series in hopes of getting Nom Nom a role after he was unable to be cast in any action films. “Crowbar Jones: Origins” premiered on this day, 5 Years Ago.

Crowbar Jones: Origins chat
In this upcoming episode Grizz is going to approach Nom Nom and attempt to persuade him to star in one of his Crowbar Jones film projects. What I (and all Grizznom fans probably) are wondering is whether or not the aftermath of Vacation will lead to a warmer atmosphere between the two or if the troubled Koala will be back to his old ways. Do you think he will:
A: Be completely dismissive and hostile to the idea of being in such an amateur production?
B: Agree to get involved and then hijack/steal it from Grizz because he thinks it will boost his precious popularity?
C: Actually get interested in the project due to Grizz’s enthusiasm and the fact that the film really means a lot to the big guy and (Grizznom ideal) genuinely end up enjoying spending time with Grizz making it even if the end result is silly?
I for one am looking forward to finding out :).

What I took away from that scene in the movie (AKA I don’t buy it after that declaration of love/friendship in “Vacation” and him saving Grizz in “Crowbar Jones: Origins”).
Also, if anyone’s interested, I did a character deconstruction amv for Nom Nom a while back. (LINK)

Since last month, CN Canada and Teletoon had seven tries including today to actually premiere Crowbar Jones: Origins in Canada.
And they failed in all seven. That shit’s fucking baffling and irritating.
I’ll be more pissed off if that episode is actually on VOD because I’m in a stinking rural village where Bell is the only tv provider and they don’t have the special Cartoon Network privilege that comes with Teletoon on Demand, unlike Shaw (which airs a commercial featuring robots singing an I’ve Been Everywhere-esque song that feels like its rubbing in my face because they claim that they’re “available” from coast-to-coast).

Have you your truffles? Good! Let’s tune into the Portland and Oregon playlist then. I have yet to visit this part of the world but from the outside looking in, the underground music scene there looks vibrant and alive. I just knew I had to make this playlist. So grab your Goonies map and let’s get started!

I know there are more metal acts in Oregon not yet on this list. I will gladly update it and if you know any songs I overlooked, throw them this way. Cheers.
