What home smells like (Crossroads comments)
Note: judging by the audio I extracted and the conversation file, Bellara and Taash don't have lines for that event (if they actually have lines and I missed them, pls lmk).
Rook: That scent… I can't place it. Neve: For a moment… it smelled like Dock Town after it rains. Lucanis: Coffee. Like Illario and I smelled in the kitchen where we grew up. But that cannot be right. Harding: That's my ma's apple cake! But… how? Davrin: That's smoke from my old clan's campfire. But… how do I even know that? Emmrich: It's reminiscent of the mortuary's perfumes, but… ah. Of course. Emmrich: There's small enchantments around this place. From the old elves, welcoming their kindred home.
My DAVG Extracted Audio Masterlist
#anyway. so much to unpack here#I know it's just a way to leave things ambiguous so they don't hinder players' headcanons but Rook not knowing what home smells like is...#it's quite a lot#then Lucanis's “like Illario and I smelled”. their lives are so intertwined he cannot recall his own childhood without Illario#very normal!#“how do I even know what my old campfire smells like?” how would you NOT Davrin. or maybe you are just surprised you still remember?#that this life you thought you'd completely left behind#is still so important to you that the crossroad spirits immediately clock you as missing it?#very disappointed that Bellara doesn't actually have lines here why does it fall to Emmrich of all people to explain what's going on there!#and that Taash doesn't have any considering that smell is their entire thing!!#datv audio#davrin#davrin dragon age#emmrich volkarin#lace harding#lucanis dellamorte#neve gallus#veilguard audio#dragon age#dragon age the veilguard#flowers.txt#flowers blogs#rook datv#rook dragon age#rook

Whispers at the Crossroads
At the edge of night, where the lanterns fade,
I walk the path the dead have laid.
Veil-thin echoes call my name,
Soft as smoke, sharp as flame.
The wind hums secrets in hollowed bone,
A lullaby sung in undertone.
Candles flicker, shadows bend,
Time unravels—there is no end.
Silver coins and whispered pleas,
Footsteps lost among the trees.
I stand between, I call, I wait,
The spirits speak. I mark their fate.
Ash and myrrh, salt and stone,
No one truly walks alone.
For death is but a breath between,
A threshold crossed, unseen, serene.

Listen, if your Lavellan would be happy in the Fade with Solas forever - cool, no problem. But mine would be BORED AS FUCK. I cannot imagine her being stuck in the regret prison with that man with no one else to talk to and nothing to do and not able to talk with Dorian and not able to ride about on her elk and not being able to hunt and not being able to see her Clan and not able to feel the wind in her hair or the rain on her face and-
#*rambles on and on about how much Lavellan has to give up for the egg*#what are they going to do in there??!#can they eat?#you know i could get it if it was like the crossroads in DAI - there's a whole bunch of stuff to do there! Black Cockerel at the Crossorads
Sometimes, when I have called on a spirit for aid, I recognize their responses in omens as subtle as abrupt shifts in the weather or a sudden chorus of birdsong. Other times, however, the omens are considerably more conspicuous.
A while back, I carried out an important rite in which I called upon the aid of a powerful Crossroads Entity. If succesfully carried out, I was to encounter an "unmistakable sign" to confirm the support of this petitioned Wight, and while I didn't know what this would look like, I trusted that I would know when I saw it.
Three days later, I was forced to pull over in a town I'm not especially familiar with in order to check on the directions I was following. I parked in the first seemingly innocuous spot I could find, which appeared to be a little dead-end pullout. When I parked, however, I was immediately shocked to notice a black rooster wandering pleasantly about the area. I got out of my car to check on it and see if it was alright, and I discovered that it wasn't just a black rooster, but a melanistic one (meaning that it bears a mutation, similar to albinism, that results in the hyper-production of pigment.) This, in itself, was quite unusual, but what really stunend me was the way the rooster acted towards me. He followed me around, and when I put out my hand, he pecked at it with sweet curiosity before allowing me to pat him like one might a cat. Then, when I put out both hands planning to stroke either side of him, he simply walked right into my arms and nuzzled into me, allowing me to pick him up with no qualms at all. He even jumped into my car when I was sitting back inside it to do a quick reading on the situation, and most bizarrely (and endearingly) of all, he literally picked a (very telling) card out of the deck for me while I was reading.
Just as I was deciding that he was likely a lost or abandoned pet and getting ready to take him with me somewhere, he ran off like a mischievous sprite and disappeared. While I shook my head in bewilderment and called my husband to tell him about it, I discovered that what had looked like a dead-end to me when I pulled over earlier actually had a discreet route through it. Realizing that this surreal encounter took place at a "hidden crossroads" of sorts gave me goosebumps and left no doubt in my mind that I had received my "unmistakable sign."

Meet Me At The Crossroads

Crossroads magick is one of the most ancient and powerful forms of spiritual practice, rooted in folklore, myth, and occult traditions worldwide. The crossroads serve as a liminal space where different realms meet, making them ideal for transformation, communication with spirits, and supernatural workings. Let's explore the history, myths, practices associated with crossroads magick.
The Symbolism and Power of Crossroads
Crossroads are places where two or more paths meet, symbolizing transition, choices, and the convergence of the mundane and the mystical. In magickal traditions, they are seen as:
• Liminal Spaces – Areas where the veil between worlds is thin.
• Points of Decision – Representing life's choices and personal transformation.
• Spiritual Crossroads – Where humans, spirits, and deities can interact.
• Portals to the Otherworld – Allowing access to hidden knowledge and power.
The number of roads meeting affects the energy of the crossroads:
• Two-way crossroads (simple intersection) – Often used for general spellwork and divination.
• Three-way crossroads (Y-shape) – Associated with Hekate, the Fates, and feminine wisdom.
• Four-way crossroads (traditional crossroads) – The most commonly used for summoning spirits and transformative rituals.
Myths, Legends, and Superstitions
Many cultures have legends surrounding the mystical power of crossroads. Here are some notable myths and beliefs:
Greek and Roman Mythology
Hekate – The Greek goddess of witchcraft and magic is often depicted standing at a three-way crossroads with her torches, guiding souls and granting wisdom. Her followers left offerings called Hekate’s Suppers at crossroads for her favor.
Hermes/Mercury – A trickster and messenger god, he was the protector of travelers, psychopomps, and merchants. Crossroads were sacred to him, and statues called herms were placed at intersections to bring luck.
European Folklore
The Devil at the Crossroads – In European and later American folklore, it was believed that one could meet the Devil at a crossroads at midnight to make a pact for wealth, power, or skill (as in the famous story of blues musician Robert Johnson).
The Wild Hunt – A spectral procession of spirits, often led by Odin or other deities, was said to pass through crossroads. Seeing them was an omen of death.
Burial Superstitions – In medieval Europe, criminals and suicides were buried at crossroads to confuse their spirits and prevent hauntings.

Hoodoo and African Diaspora Traditions
Papa Legba – In Haitian Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo, Papa Legba is the gatekeeper of the crossroads, facilitating communication between humans and spirits.
The Crossroads Rite – In Hoodoo, one can go to the crossroads to make a deal with a spirit (not necessarily the Devil) to gain mastery in a skill, often by leaving offerings and performing rituals.
Asian Crossroads Beliefs
Shinto and Yokai – In Japanese folklore, crossroads were believed to be haunted by yurei (ghosts) and yokai (supernatural beings).
Chinese Folk Traditions – Paper offerings for spirits are often burned at crossroads to ensure the dead find their way.
Crossroads Magick Practices
Crossroads magick can be used for various purposes, including divination, spirit communication, curses, protection, and self-transformation.
Divination and Spirit Communication
• Perform scrying with a black mirror or water bowl at a crossroads at night.
• Use crossroads dirt in divination rituals to enhance psychic abilities.
• Ask a question, listen to the first words you hear or the first sign you see as an answer.
Spellwork and Rituals
• Offerings and Petitions – Leave food, coins, or candles to spirits or deities at the crossroads for guidance.
• Banishings and Uncrossings – Discard cursed items or perform cleansing rituals at a crossroads to remove negative energy.
• Empowerment and Mastery Rites – Go to the crossroads for seven nights, performing a skill (such as playing an instrument or reciting spells) to gain supernatural mastery.
Working with Spirits and Deities
• Call upon Hekate, Hermes, Papa Legba, or local spirits while standing at a crossroads, making offerings and asking for guidance.
• Use crossroads dirt in spell jars, protection sachets, or ritual circles to enhance power.
• Summon a spirit at midnight by drawing a symbol in the dirt, lighting candles, and calling their name.
Protection and Warding
• Place a small charm or a buried protective sigil at a crossroads to guard an area.
• Scatter salt or crushed eggshells at a crossroads to cleanse spiritual residue.

Crossroads Magick in Modern Practice
Today, crossroads magick is used in:
• Witchcraft and Paganism – Honoring deities like Hekate and Hermes, performing rituals, and collecting crossroads dirt.
• Hoodoo and Folk Magick – Working with spirits for skill mastery and protection.
• Urban Magick – Using intersections in cities as modern crossroads for rituals.
• Left-Hand Path Practices – Pact-making and spirit summoning.
Considerations
• Always research cultural traditions before incorporating them.
• Be respectful when leaving offerings (avoid littering).
• Ensure you protect yourself spiritually before summoning entities.
Hekate Crossroads Ritual (Road Opener)
Hekate, the goddess of the crossroads, is a powerful ally for removing obstacles, opening new opportunities, and guiding you on your path. This ritual calls upon her to clear blockages and illuminate the road ahead.
Needed:
• Three black candles
• A key
• Garlic or onions
• Honey or wine
• A written petition
• A bowl of spring water or Florida Water
• A small torch, lantern, or flashlight
Timing:
• Midnight is Hekate’s sacred hour, making it the most potent time.
• A dark moon (for deep transformation) or a new moon (for new beginnings).
• A Wednesday (for communication and movement) or a Saturday (for removing obstacles).
Instructions:
Preparation - Locate a physical crossroads where two or more roads meet. If that’s not possible, mark a symbolic crossroads in your home using salt, chalk, or stones. Stand in the center and take a few deep breaths, grounding yourself in the moment.

Invocation - Light the three black candles in a triangle around you, saying:
“Hekate, Torchbearer, Keeper of the Crossroads, I call to you. You who walk the liminal spaces, She who opens and closes the way, Come forth and guide me now.”
Place the key at the center of your ritual space and touch it, saying:
“With this key, I ask your blessing, Hekate Enodia, to open the roads before me.”
Pour a few drops of honey or wine onto the ground as an offering, saying:
“Mighty Hekate, accept this gift, and in your wisdom, clear my path.”
Removing Obstacles - Hold your petition and read it aloud, stating what you need cleared from your path. Example:
“Before me stand barriers unseen, doubts, fears, and paths unclear.
With your torches, Hekate, burn them away!
With your hounds, chase away misfortune!
With your key, unlock the way forward!”
Dip your fingers in the bowl of water and sprinkle it over your petition, saying:
“As water washes away the past, so too are my blockages removed.”
If safe, burn the petition in a fireproof dish, releasing it to the elements. If burning isn’t possible, tear it into small pieces and scatter them at the crossroads.
Opening the Way - Hold up the key and envision a golden path unfolding before you. Light your torch or flashlight and say:
“Hekate, light my way. With your guidance, I walk forward with confidence and clarity.”
Place the key in your pocket or wear it as a charm, symbolizing the road now open.
Closing - Leave garlic, onions, or additional honey at the crossroads as a final offering, saying:
“Hekate, Queen of the Crossroads, I thank you. May your blessings remain with me as I walk this new path.”
Walk away without looking back, trusting that the road is now open.

After the Ritual:
• Keep the key with you as a talisman for continued road-opening energy.
• Pay attention to dreams, signs, and synchronicities—Hekate often communicates through symbols.
• If possible, return to the crossroads in the coming days to leave a small token of gratitude.
Crossroads magick is a powerful, ancient practice that connects the worlds of the living, the dead, and the divine. Whether seeking wisdom, transformation, or supernatural aid, the crossroads serve as a gateway to profound mystical experiences. By honoring the spirits, respecting the traditions, and practicing responsibly, one can tap into the vast power of the crossroads.

Black Man At The Crossroads Day
Happy Halloweeeeen Hoodoos!! On this final day of Hoodoo Heritage Month, we celebrate the Black Man at the Crossroads Day. 💀🖤

The Crossroads is integral to the religious fabric of Kongo Cosmology. At the crux of ancient ancestral wisdom (the Kalunga line) and the realm of the living (the Mukala line), is our place of significant power, transformation, & Spirit.
Here, we meet The Black Man (not to be confused with The Devil); a Kongo-Bantu ancestral spirit who is a gatekeeper of closed/open roads & conductor of the spiritual energies at the Crossroads, which catalyze shifts, changes, + movement from the spirit world into the physical world.
When we go to The Crossroads to sing, dance, pray, invoke, petition our spirits or to conjure, forage, consecrate workings, deliver/dispose offerings… we come to The Black Man, among many other spirits.
Today we celebrate him, acknowledge his presence, and give specific offerings as tokens of gratitude and thanks.
As with any ancestral or Hoodoo Spirit, cultivating a healthy relationship & honoring the principles of energy exchange is paramount. Come correct or not at all. And respect his gangsta.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 & 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐒
@thuganomxcs :
Yusuke took a deep breath and took hold of Botan's hands as they stood before both family and friends on their most joyous occasion. "I thought of writin' what I was gonna say but we both know I suck at homework." That had the people in their audience chuckle in unison as..they do really know the type of person Yusuke is. Never one for preparations and simply one to move forward with his heart or guts. Wedding vows would be no different.
"Just in case there were times when it seems like it, I jus' wanna say it here in front of everyone we know that I deeply appreciate you. Botan you're who breathed life back into me when I was ready t' just call it quits and leave for Makai forever. But you remind me of what matters..in fact you've done that more than once even before then and before I knew it you were the person I've thought about..day in and day out. I think my mother was the first t' notice it..the way I talked about you or how I'd look at you whenever the three of us were coincidentally together and I always wondered if someone as extraordinary as you would go for the guy that's been nothin' but stress to you....I was actually happy I had the guts t' come out and tell you how I felt. And now we're here.."
Yusuke took a breath as there was moisture beginning to take form at the corner of his eyes due to utter bliss. "Now you're gonna make me into the happiest man in the world. I love you soo much that I'll spend every waking second showin' you just HOW much I do, because I wanna make you just as happy as you've made me. So Thank you Botan...thanks for loving someone who didn't think he'd ever be loved. (wedding day)
BOTAN IS GOING TO MARRY YUSUKE. She knew she would, from the minute he confessed his love to her she's had images of their wedding day visiting her dreams. It was just a matter of time.
It took some planning but they were finally here, parting in the early hours of the morning to get ready. The wedding was a mix of traditions and preferences, both tradition and modernity. While Botan loved the modern wedding style (she's been gushing over magazines for months), she wanted some of her customs included, so that they would be married not just in his world but also in hers.
The beginning of the ceremony saw them in kimono, hers white and his black, kneeling and sharing from the three sacred sake cups, pledging themselves to one another, to share their lives. Botan's trying hard not to cry (or spill the cup) and Yusuke quips under his breath that she didn't have to get him drunk to marry him, he would have done this sober. She smiles and sticks out her tongue.
When the sake is finished, they part once again, the guests streaming off to mingle until the larger ceremony begins. The crowd is a lively mix of humans and yokai, friends from across the three realms. Kurama had spent the previous night growing flowers across the venue, Kuwabara is in charge of making sure absolutely everything goes smoothly (Botan's only rule is No Fighting. If Yusuke shows up with blood on his suit, she'll kill him right then and there.), and even Hiei is in attendance, hiding in the background, offhandedly marking him as 'just here to make sure no one attacks the place' as if that's his only reason. The girls are in charge of helping Botan get ready, with Shizuru doing her hair and make up while Keiko and Yukina help her into her dress.
Yusuke looks dashing in a suit, more formal than anyone's ever seen him. But despite all that, there's still something casual about him, the lack of a more stuffy tux ("I don't think I'd recognize you if you wore one.") and the way his hands tremble ever so slightly. He fidgets at the end of the aisle, too much energy pent up with his own nerves.
He quiets when Botan comes out. She's changed from her kimono into a western dress, one she'd been hiding at Atsuko's place since they bought it. It's a ballgown, the skirt layered like ripples in the water, white peonies blooming across the fabric. The bodice is trimmed in soft lace with a sheer halter neckline. And her hair is braided, flowers woven into the plaits. Koenma is the one to hand her off to Yusuke, trying to remain stoic while Atsuko stands by Yusuke, dabbing her eyes.
There, standing before everyone, she says I do.
Yusuke's speech softens the last bit of strength she had and tears roll gently down her cheeks. She squeezes his hands tight, unable to look away, to exist anywhere but right here with him. When he finishes, she darts forward to kiss him, quick and impulsive.
"Oh! Sorry-- I'm not supposed to do that yet," she stammers, regaining herself. "Um, I tried writing things down. I watched so many movies trying to figure out what I'm even supposed to say. But it always ended up being too long or I'd start crying— happy tears, not sad! So, um, here goes—" Botan takes a deep breath, her expression softening when she returns her gaze to Yusuke.
"I think everyone here knows how we met— or, well, how this all happened. When Koenma told me I was going to be responsible for watching over the new Spirit Detective, a recently revived human boy, I thought it would probably be easy. How much trouble could one human get into? I didn't think I'd be watching you fight for the safety of three realms. Honestly, you were such a pain, I mean sometimes I thought we revived you without a brain. But... you were also kind and fun. You were my best friend. I think I've always loved you, that love just got bigger. You're caring and funny and a really good cook. Even when you would tease me or make me mad or all that time I spent terrified that you wouldn't come back alive, I loved you. I still do. I always hoped we'd be in each other's lives forever. And now we get to make it official. Forever, that's how long I'll love you. Nothing could make me stop, not even your worst most perverted comment. You're the most important thing in my life and I can't wait to share forever with you."
Now she can kiss him. And she does, lunging quickly into his arms, to a place where time stops and the only thing that matters is her lips against his. Where forever begins.
The rest of the night is spent with their friends. They share dances, cut a very large cake and sit side by side, celebrating well into the night. It's a lively atmosphere, people laughing, dancing, ...arm wrestling because Botan knew she'd never get this group of guys through a night without someone issuing a challenge. But Shizuru is able to embarrass a number of demons so she's having fun with it. Koenma makes a comment about rescinding Yusuke's resurrection if he hurts Botan, to which Yusuke glances at the girls dancing with Botan and tells him to get in line. And Atsuko has bounced between loud cheering and crying multiple times through the night.
When the night comes to a close and the last of their guests have drifted of, Botan takes Yusuke's hand and leads him outside. She pulls him onto her oar and flies them both high up above, to sit beneath the moon, where no one will interrupt. She slides him an envelope.
"You didn't think we were going to get married and I wasn't going to get you something, did you?" she says, laughing. A wedding is basically a personal holiday anyway and that's her specialty. Inside the envelope, are their honeymoon plans, which Botan has managed to keep a secret. There are tickets to Disney and another for a beach side resort in Hawai'i. She's been planning this for a long time. "I figured if we tried to take a trip anywhere around here, something is going to interrupt us. So, how about this? A week at Disneyland in America. There are lots of parks there and stuff to do. And then, after we've had fun, we can relax at a resort, just the two of us. Your mother's already agreed to watch the house, she was... very insistent that we have a long honeymoon. I guess she thought we needed a break after all the wedding planning!" That's not it at all!
