“Why not have the games start at 1:30?” – Ravi Shastri on how rains may have had the least impact on the 2023 Asia Cup
On September 17 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, India and Sri Lanka will face off to decide who would win the prestigious Asia Cup 2023 championship. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bat first. The match’s start has been postponed, nevertheless, due to the weather.
The reason why the games do not begin at 1:30 as opposed to 3:00 was brought up by Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of India. According to the 61-year-old, if the games had been played earlier, it would not have required the reserve day.
“Why don’t the games begin at 1:30? By then, the games have already begun in India. Before the rain came, you would have completed 20–25 overs if you had started at 1-1:30. Without the reserve day, it’s possible that all of the games in the tournament would have been finished. Something for the organisers to think about,” the former cricket player said on TV.
Sri Lanka has made a name for itself as one of the most fearsome teams in the present continental championship. They have also only lost one of their previous 15 ODIs, and that was against India.
On the other side, India just lost to Bangladesh while practically all of their key players choose to sit out. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul, two of India’s top players, have made impressive recoveries from their respective ailments, and Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli have all been playing outstandingly. They are anticipated to maintain their excellent play in the summit match as well.
In the weeks preceding the championship game, injuries occurred to both Sri Lanka and India. The team led by Dasun Shanaka is likely the one who would be most negatively impacted by it because they will no longer have frontline spinner Mahesh Theekshana for the rest of the competition. Axar Patel was ruled out of the final, therefore Washington Sundar was added as India’s backup.

Rashid Khan’s withdrawal from the competition deals a serious setback to Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2023.
With a commendable blend of youth and experience, Trent Rockets put together a competitive team during “The Draft.” Afghan superstar Rashid Khan, who had agreed to a three-match contract with them, was one of their most valuable assets. But due to an unidentified injury, the 24-year-old has withdrawn from the competition.
On Tuesday, August 1 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Trent Rockets, who won the competition in 2022 after defeating Manchester Originals in the championship match at Lord’s, take on Southern Brave in the curtain-raiser of this year’s The Hundred. Rashid was scheduled to play in this match and a few others before being substituted by the New Zealander Ish Sodhi, a leg-spinner. Rashid acknowledged his sorrow at being unable to participate in the special white-ball competition but emphasized his hope to return for the following iteration. I’m very disappointed to have to drop out of The Hundred due to an injury. Rashid was reported by ESPNcricinfo as stating, “It’s been nice playing in the competition the first two years; Trent Rockets is a great squad, and I hope to be back again next year. The Afghan leg spinner added that he missed a few One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka earlier this year due to a back issue that has “yet to fully recover.”
Rashid Khan assisted MI New York in winning the first MLC 2023.
Recently, Rashid Khan has participated in a lot of cricket matches. The talismanic spinner left Bangladesh on Sunday, July 16 to play the final match of a two-match T20I series there. On Tuesday, July 18, he made his Major League Cricket (MLC) debut for MI New York (MINY) against Texas Super Kings.
The seasoned bowler wasn’t in terrific shape during the competition, but he showed his mettle in the championship match versus Seattle Orcas. Wayne Parnell and Company were held to a score of 183/9 in 20 overs thanks in part to his miserly spell of 3/9 in four overs during the first innings for MI New York. The MINY team’s captain, Nicholas Pooran, led the way with an unbroken 55-ball 137 that helped his team win.

Virat Kohli didn’t travel with the team to Trinidad and is reportedly questionable for the third ODI.
The third and final ODI match between India and West Indies is likely to be Virat Kohli last. It is known that the former captain of India did not travel to Trinidad for the series finale and would probably sit on the bench.
Despite the fact that Kohli hasn’t flown with the team, no formal announcement has been made regarding whether he would be included in the starting XI. It’s important to note that the think tank opted to bench senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the second One-Day International after a convincing victory in the first ODI.

On Monday, May 8, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders were the favorites to defeat Punjab Kings, needing six runs in the last over. As KKR needed two runs to win their fifth game of the IPL 2023 season, star pacer Arshdeep Singh bowled wonderfully to keep the visiting team in the game till the final delivery.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh hit a superb boundary to help KKR win a nail-biting match as Arshdeep badly misjudged his line and length in the final delivery.
