A life that cannot adapt to change is a pitiable one.
With the advancement of AI technology, its implementation in creative fields has been on the rise. However, some creators have strongly expressed their opposition to the use of AI. Their argument is that AI will rob creativity and infringe upon individual artists' freedom of expression and originality. Yet, these anti-AI creators themselves often produce new works by combining ideas inspired by past great creators, which presents a significant contradiction.
The Arguments of Anti-AI Creators
Creators who oppose AI have several reasons for their stance:
Loss of Originality: They believe that content generated by AI lacks true creativity and individuality, as it is based on past data.
Job Displacement: There is a concern that the advancement of AI will replace creative jobs, reducing employment opportunities for human artists and designers.
Ethical Issues: Problems related to copyright and ownership of AI-generated content are unresolved, posing risks of misuse and plagiarism.
The Paradox of Inspiration and Originality
On the other hand, these anti-AI creators themselves often draw inspiration from past great creators and combine those ideas to create new works. This appears to be contradictory.
The Importance of Past Influences
In creative work, drawing inspiration from past works and ideas is an unavoidable process. Whether in art, music, literature, or any other field, past masterpieces influence current creators and serve as sources for generating new works. For instance, Picasso was influenced by African sculpture and Impressionism, and the Beatles drew inspiration from rock and roll and blues.
The Combination of Ideas and Creativity
In fact, creativity often emerges not from creating something entirely new from scratch but from combining existing ideas in novel ways. Steve Jobs famously said, "Creativity is just connecting things." Therefore, the process by which AI generates new content based on past data can be seen as an extension of human creativity.
Conclusion
The arguments of creators who oppose AI have merit, but they also face the contradiction of creating new works based on past ideas. The creative process inherently involves drawing from past influences while creating new value. Similarly, AI generates new content based on past data, and this can be viewed as a form of creativity. Instead of fearing the evolution of AI, it is crucial to aim for a future where humans and AI coexist and complement each other.
A life that cannot adapt to change is a pitiable one.
