Tomorrow is July 4th or "Independence" Day in the USA (and July 1 was the equivalent in 'Canada') — a settler colonial nation living on the land of the Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island. At Creating Freedom Movements, we are committed to #LandBack — here on Turtle Island, and around the world.

We are reposting work from @wgssa.utsc and @tupacistan, created for IDEVAW (Nov 25) '23 and Land Day (March 30) 2024, drawing connections between sexual & colonial violence, focused on the ways that Indigenous Consent is ignored, coerced, negotiated, violated, and enforced. The teachings in this post are primarily from the @yellowheadinstitute 'Spectrum of Consent' as explored in the Land Back Red Paper and from the @palestinianfeministcollective and their work against Colonial Feminism, Reproductive Genocide, and more.

On #IDEVAW 2023 the Palestinian Feminist Collective (PFC) called on feminist co-strugglers and all people of conscience to once and for all #ShutDownColonialFeminism and for Feminists to #SayNoToGenocide

WGSSA UTSC is a critical & intersectional feminist collective. In solidarity with PFC "We reaffirm that Palestine is a feminist issue and assert that feminism is incompatible with Zionism."

This post includes teachings from Yellowhead Institute & PFC to connect the dots between Indigenous Movements like #LandBack & meaningful Consent Action.

mandatory + comprehensive consent education for ALL UofT community members

expansion of the existing Sexual Misconduct Disclosure in hiring policy to ALL employees. We believe this can + should be used to require disclosure of military service in the IOF and/or other militaries that have been credibly accused of weaponizing sexual violence as a tool of warfare + terror

— A Note from DGM's Founder/Editor in Chief: It's been a few years y'all... almost 10 since the founding of this blog & e-zine. a lot has changed and if i were to start this again, i would NOT call it desi girl mag — also I use they/she pronouns now, heavy on the they! but here's some work I'd done recently — not sure if anyone even follows DGM on tumblr anymore but if there is still community, i'd love to revitalize our space and make it truly serve the desires of everyone. perhaps we do a comeback issue checking in on formerly featured artists + creators, writers, and staff members? let's see!
