Awhile back I did a Watercolor Painting of Kenny Wallace's first NASCAR Win; I decided to mix with actually give to people feeling being present during the event. I made these for fun and to give people a better idea of why I painted them.

Trees (2021)
A talk abut growth, hope, and paying attention to history
Revised and expanded for the Washington Ethical Society by Lyn Cox
February 7, 2021
In this place halfway between the beginning of winter and the beginning of spring, we draw on imagination and memory, caution and optimism, hope for the future and learning from the past. Many of these things are contained in stories.
I don’t know if the story happened exactly this way, but I believe it’s true. A sage, a wise person, was walking along the road and saw someone planting a carob tree. The sage asks, "How long will it take for this tree to bear fruit?" "Seventy years," replies the gardener. The sage then asks: "Are you so healthy a person that you expect to live that length of time and eat its fruit?" The gardener answers: "I found a fruitful world, because my ancestors planted it for me. Likewise I am planting for my children." I will tell you where this story is from because I want to give credit, but I also want to notice that this story has a universality to it, a truth that the beginnings of things we set in motion can have an impact long past the horizons of our own lives. This story is from the Talmud, a collection of rabbinic conversations on ethics and customs. (Talmud Ta'anit 23a)
We drink from wells we did not dig and eat from trees we did not plant (Deut. 6:11). Our physical, intellectual, and religious lives depend on those who have gone before. Following their example will lead us to plant literal and figurative trees for the world of the future.
I believe caring for ourselves AND others will help us sustain a shared life of meaning and compassion for a long time.
My first semester studying for my M.Div. degree in California, I worked at one college in the south bay area, and went to school in the east bay area. I enjoyed the fragrance of eucalyptus trees around both campuses. The dry leaves rustled in the breeze, leaves rubbing together like the wings of singing crickets. Some people were distracted by the sound and allergic to the smell, but I liked them. The eucalyptus trees were tall and graceful. One might imagine that they had always been there. There’s a story about those trees. I don’t know if it happened exactly this way.
The American West in the late 1800’s was heavily influenced by dreams of getting rich quick. Non-native eucalyptus trees were brought from Australia because they grew quickly. It was imagined that the lumber and oil would become quickly replaceable commodities for those who farmed them. They were promoted as ornamental trees for rich landowners new to the area and not used to treeless landscapes. Eucalyptus trees were all over California by the 1900’s, and were tested for use as railroad ties. They didn’t work out. Eucalyptus from Australian virgin forests, seasoned and treated properly, behaves differently than eucalyptus grown from seeds in California, hastily treated, and set down in the Nevada sand. Some of the railroad ties were so cracked they couldn’t hold spikes. Some decayed within four years.
The trees themselves grew like weeds. They did what non-native species are famous for doing: thriving in the new environment, edging out diverse native plants that provide food and habitat, with consequences for the entire food chain. An attempt at a quick profit turned out to have unintended consequences. Recently, there has been more discussion in that region about restoring native trees, but it’s complicated. To say that it will take time to mitigate the damage of an invasive species is an understatement. Then again, compare that to the 2,000-year growth of some living redwood trees. May we learn patience and commitment from slow-growing trees.
We strive to be among those people who have the hope and imagination it takes to envision a world of justice and compassion, a world of liberation and self-determination, a world of peace where people sit calmly in the shade of slow-growing trees. In our neck of the woods, we might imagine a world where every person lives in safety and abundance, with access to the shade of a Witch Hazel, Hackberry, or Redbud tree; the three logically native trees our Earth Ethics Action Team recently arranged to have planted on the WES property. In folk music and wisdom tales, slow-growing trees symbolize enough time for a generation to grow without being uprooted by hunger or violence.
The California eucalyptus story reminds us that some of the environmental mistakes we humans have made were decisions made by a few but using the resources and the risk pool of many. Another time, we can unpack the harm that white American westward expansion had on indigenous land rights and communities, and on the horrors of labor exploitation involved in the transcontinental railroad, and on the energy and resources that were available for white colonization but not reparations for formerly enslaved people after the Civil War. Understanding the wrong choices that have been made in the past may help us turn toward making better choices as a society going forward. We can play an active role in the governments, corporations, and organizations to which we belong and who act on our behalf. Let us embody these relationships for repair and renewal.
Contrast the rushed, climate-disrupting story of the eucalyptus trees with the story of George Washington Carver. I had to catch up on some of his story this week, when my kids noticed discrepancies between what was said about Dr. Carver in the elementary school reader on our bookshelf and what they had read elsewhere. Some of us learned in school that the most important contribution Dr. Carver made as a scientist was discovering and promoting new uses for peanuts, but this version of his story is grossly oversimplified and obscures the way his research and activism supported Black self-determination as well as environmental repair.
After he graduated from the Iowa State Agricultural College in 1896, Dr. Carver accepted a position at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Riding on the train to his new home, he noticed immediately that growing nothing but cotton was causing soil erosion and depletion. He had scientific solutions to that. What took longer was figuring out how to empower Black farmers -- especially those who were being exploited as sharecroppers -- to feed their families, improve their chances for subsequent years, and still make enough money to try to get out of debt. Smithsonian Magazine quotes biographer Mark Hersey about the way Dr. Carver understood the problem:
“What Carver comes to see,” Hersey says, was that “altering [black sharecroppers’] interactions with the natural world could undermine the very pillars of Jim Crow.” Hersey argues that black Southerners viewed their lives under Jim Crow through an environmental lens. “If we want to understand their day to day lives, it’s not separate drinking fountains, it’s ‘How do I make a living on this soil, under these circumstances, where I’m not protected’“ by the institutions that are supposed to protect its citizens? Carver encouraged farmers to look to the land for what they needed, rather than going into debt buying fertilizer (and paint, and soap, and other necessities—and food). Instead of buying the fertilizer that “scientific agriculture” told them to buy, farmers should compost. In lieu of buying paint, they should make it themselves from clay and soybeans.
So ends the excerpt. Dr. Carver understood way before what we think of as the modern environmental justice movement that liberation and conservation are entwined projects. The decisions we make for our families, for our communities, and for the planet all go together, and they all benefit from remembering interdependence and the long years of generations to come. Honoring the very beginnings of things, continuing to work on hopes that are barely tangible, believing in the distant future, allows us to live into Beloved Community. White Supremacy depends on the hurry-up-and-profit mindset that brought cracked eucalyptus logs to the Nevada desert. Beloved Community invites us to consider what may come from a seed.
Strong trees grow slowly. Strong communities learn and grow and make connections to other communities little by little over decades. Healing takes time. Repair takes time. And for all of these, we can’t always tell that it is happening. In most cases, we don’t see the seed unfolding under the soil. Our senses are not adjusted to notice the growth of trees right in front of us. Sometimes resilience is about knowing in your heart that change is possible, even when the evidence is not yet obvious.
The nearly imperceptible beginnings of change are also a theme in the earth-honoring holiday of Imbolc. The Celtic calendar where this holiday comes from is rooted in the seasons of light and dark of the northern hemisphere and the agricultural cycles of western Europe. At approximately the same time of year in the British Isles and here in the mid-Atlantic, the middle of winter means that we can start to perceive the time of sunrise and sunset edging toward spring, just a little more daylight each day.
February into March is the time of year when lambs start to be born, vulnerable and full of promise for the coming spring. It’s still cold outside! One theory for where the word Imbolc comes from is that it’s related to the word for sheep milk. The lambs need a lot of help to stay warm and to survive. Yet their arrival shows the persistence of life. Sometimes resilience is about remembering that life is possible.
This is also the time of year when people who grow vegetables in climates like ours make a plan for the next six months, gathering seeds, starting a few indoors, and figuring out how to make the most of the soil and sun that will be available later. Making plans at this in-between time of year takes courage.
For earth-honoring folks in Celtic traditions, the goddess Bridget (and, in her later form, St. Bridget of Kildare) is associated with this early February holiday. In the legends, Bridget protects access to clean, healing water. She is also a figure of light and flame. When you put fire and water together, you can make entirely new things out of what you had before. You can forge iron, cook food, sculpt clay and fire it into ceramics. Maybe this transformative potential is why Bridget is also associated with childbirth, poetry, healing, song, and art.
There is one thing that newborn lambs, vegetable seeds, soup ingredients, raw iron, and future poetry all have in common: They don’t look at the beginning the way they are going to look at the end. You have to have some hope and imagination to believe in the transformation that is coming. You have to keep doing what you are doing, when the evidence for success has not yet appeared. We need to hold on through the long term, through step-by-step processes, through the discomfort of growth and change. And so another thing we learn at Bridget’s holiday is the need for commitment.
If we’re paying attention to a legendary figure of generosity, art, and transformation, it’s a good idea to listen to the voices of poets who figured out how to sustain themselves and their families and communities through difficult times. During Black History Month, we are reminded of many examples of poets and artists who showed and inspired perseverance as they provided hope and imagination about a better world that was not yet fully manifest.
Back in October, on Vote Love Day, we heard about the story of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. She was born in Maryland in 1825 to free parents, was educated at her uncle’s school, and had published a book of poetry by the age of twenty. She became a full-time lecturer and writer, and she was an activist for abolition and for economic self-determination in the Black community. One verse of her 1895 poem, “Songs for the People,” [more on that poem here] reads:
Our world, so worn and weary,
  Needs music, pure and strong,
To hush the jangle and discords
  Of sorrow, pain, and wrong.
Harper was well aware of the injustice, economic inequality, and violence that still plagued the cities and towns where she toured. She didn’t fail to address any part of that system in her other writing. Yet she still saw a place for music and art. For Harper, poetry was not a distraction from building the Beloved Community, but one of the technologies that can help bring it into being. Out of intangible words and ideas are woven a network of visions that lift up possibilities for liberation.
Good things grow from beginnings that are not yet obvious. The forces that will become spring are already at work under the snow in the middle of winter.
On the Jewish calendar, we’ve recently passed the holiday of Tu B’Shevat, the new year of trees. This is a minor holiday. It’s been around for hundreds of years, yet more people seem to be noticing it as we learn to connect spirituality with care for the earth. Sometimes people in Jewish homes and communities gather to eat different kinds of fruit and nuts, to give thanks for ways of growing, and recommit to stewardship of the planet. In regions where it makes sense, Tu B’Shevat is a time to plant trees.
Clearly, looking out the window today, it is not the right time to plant a tree where we live. Nevertheless, in our gratitude for trees, we are reminded of the growth and the fruition of work that exist because of what has come before. The forces that create and uphold life and our ancestors who cooperated with them knew that growth and resilience don’t always look that way from the outside. They knew that growth can start with something tough or plain. They knew the importance of allowing time and of giving thanks.
We drink from wells we did not dig and eat from trees we did not plant. As a community, part of our task is to muster the hope and imagination it takes to consider growth and resilience over time. We think long-term. We honor beginnings of change, even when they are hidden or barely perceptible. Let us be mindful of the impact of our choices, now and in the generations to come.
May it be so.

Basking One-Shot
AU TMNT 2k16 fluffiness that's been stuck in my head for some time and finally had to transition into a quick story
Absolutely in love with how it turned out
Raphael X Raven
Raphael had been having a particularly bad day since his punching bag had broken that morning during his daily temper tantrum and his little sister following him around wasn’t helping one bit she seemed to want to be around him but he wasn’t in the mood to deal with the girl
She took the rejection like a champ and sulked off going to hide in her room quietly without a word of protest to his mean words as he ignored the glares from his other brothers before looking towards the stairs seeing she had shut her door so quietly it hadn’t made a sound
He groaned heading up to his room grabbing his towel passing her room to hear a soft whimper but made himself ignore it lumbering down to the back part of the lair heading further down into the underground chamber stripping his clothes off before jumping into the pool letting his body sink to the bottom until he was on the bottom leaning his shell back on the concrete
His mind was quick to shift back to the girl the second it could
He had nothing against the kid but she pissed him off for no reason other than he couldn’t deal with her, but she wasn’t one to let him see it bothered her that he was always mean so she would just run off to hide from their family not coming out for hours until Leo or Mikey would pull her out of the small room finding she was always smiling when she did emerge
His eyes floated up as movement caught the corner of his eye seeing the blurry figure standing on the edge of the pool looking down into the water, he knew who it was so he ignored it lounging on the bottom as long as possible until he realized if he waited any longer the figure would no doubt jump in to haul him to the surface
He kicked off the bottom rising to the top fast breaking the surface to see Fearless standing over the edge of the pool balancing perfectly on his heels “What the hell ya want?”
Right behind him was the small child looking everywhere but at the turtle in the water holding tight to one of her stuffed animals to her chest hiding behind Leo’s shell as the oldest turtles hand brushed through her hair “Raven asked me to bring her down here so she could talk to you” she glanced up at the older turtle as if she was looking for help before he pulled her around to stand at his side “Go on little sister”
She slowly stepped closer looking like she was going to be sick the closer she got to him “What kid?” her eyes went wide as he growled at her swallowing hard as she looked up to Leo looking lost as he nodded hoping she could find the courage to talk to him “C’mon ya little shit ‘m trying to relax”
His brother glared at him as she jumped “Language Raph!” the snarl that left his throat made her back away trembling as he shot her a look wishing she’d just hurry it up already
The human child glanced his way meeting the angry golden orbs before dropping to the floor on her knees bowing to him as if surrendering to an enemy “I-I’m sorry that I’m such a pest… and - that you can’t stand the sight of me Raphie” his eyes widened as her lips quivered seeing her frightened emerald orbs stayed locked on the ground as they filled with tears dripping to the concrete before she jumped up turning to run from the room leaving her older brother to call to her to come back
“Just once couldn’t you have just held your tongue - Mikey just coxed her out of her room and got her to stop crying over you” he growled as his brother turned mumbling under his breath walked off before the icy blue eyes locked on him
He wasn’t scared of his immediate older brother Leonardo who was almost the same height as him but there was something in his big brother’s eyes that made him internally shudder “You do know she’s six, right? She looks up to you like you’re her hero and the worst part is she thinks you completely hate her”
The words struck him catching him off guard as he really thought about them, he had brought the little girl home two years ago after finding her in the tunnels – more she found him since she had been following him for lord knows how long and since then she had been with them
“I don’t hate the kid… Just – don’t like ‘er all that much”
“It’s all the same thing to her hothead” his brother looked down picking up the little stuffed turtle she must have dropped on the ground looking troubled before he glanced back to his brother the cold eyes now holding a softness that had him relaxing “Think about it Raphie, the same as we would never be accepted above - Raven is just as much of an outcast as we are only difference is she doesn’t think she belongs down here either… Why does she have to feel like that with her family?”
Without another word he turned and left his little brother to do as he pleased probably going to check on their little sister
He growled dropping to the bottom of the pool once more closing his eyes trying to relax but his brother’s words kept echoing in his mind until he was focusing on them completely grumbling to himself
As much as it killed him to admit it Leonardo was right he was too hard on the kid – he did treat her like she was a pest but he had his reasons
He slowly looked up to the surface thinking about what his brother had said playing back the look on her face as she surrendered to him… the fear in her eyes as he glared at his youngest sibling feeling sick to his stomach as he realized just how much he had hated the look she had given him
He didn’t want to see the kid look at him like that ever again… he didn’t want her ever to look at him in fear because in all honesty he hated the thought of her being afraid of him – it was enough to make him shiver
His eyes slowly locked on a small movement at first thinking it had to be Michelangelo coming to bug him watching as a little head peaked over the side looking down into the water gently reaching out drawing little shapes over his head as the water rippled when she probably didn’t see him there laying on her belly as she played alone by the pool
He watched that small hand before it was gone from his sight as she got up balancing on the edge like their older brother had been doing, she slowly looked around seeing if he was anywhere in the room sitting down on the edge putting her feet down in the water kicking around just sitting there a few feet from him
‘You do know she’s six, right? She looks up to you like you’re her hero and the worst part is she thinks you completely hate her’
He sat still at the bottom watching as she sat on the edge looking into the water still unaware that he was feet from her below the surface since the depth kept his form hidden but if she had been looking at her full height she might have realized he was still there
His mind race trying to figure out why she drove him crazy
What he had said to Leo was true he didn’t hate the girl; hell she was starting to grow on him here and there but when he looked at her there was something that just made him want to put some space between them since he was always worried he might hurt her
Something about her just brought this feeling out in him
It wasn’t hate at all… it was something that at the age of thirteen he didn’t want to feel for the human child but everything in him liked it – he cared for her more than he did his brothers
He watched her for a bit longer finding himself smiling even though he was needing to surface for air soon, she kicked at the water for a while longer barely catching the soft singing that was being muffled between him and her thanks to the water before catching her getting up, he was about to close his eyes as she started standing up on the ledge before one of her wet feet slipped off the side sending her into the water with a loud splash before she could grab the edge, he smirked as she went under the surface before seeing her thrash around trying to get back up only to sink further under
He quickly kicked off the bottom when it hit him she couldn’t swim grabbing her fast before breaking the surface hauling the smaller body out with him onto the ledge hearing her cough trying to clear her throat of any water as he took a much needed deep breath of air
“Ya okay kid” she looked up fast at his voice before the fear was in those emerald orbs again seeing her push her body up backing away as she stumbled over her words “Rave?”
“I-I’m sorry Raphie – I didn’t know you were still down here” before he could say another word the girl was running for the stairs not looking back at him, for a second he felt like yelling at her for not saying thank you before realizing she had been so upset she hadn’t processed that he had just saved her from drowning
He chuckled really thinking about her words – she had apologized to him after almost drowning
Grumbling under his breath he got off the ground looking back at the stairs hoping she was okay as he slipped his cloths back on headed over to the heat lamps where there were several small nest made from thick blankets climbing into the softest one groaning as the heat relaxed him
Basking down here always calmed him when he was in a bad mood if swimming didn’t
He hadn’t been laying there long before somebody climbed in next to him not making a sound but he didn’t move groaning as he shifted closer to the warm form next to him; he dosed off the second the other person stopped moving feeling great just getting to lay down not caring if one of his brother’s had decided to lay next to him
“Raphie-” he didn’t move as one of his brothers whispered his name trying to ignore them relaxing further the longer the lamp was beating down on him “Raph… hey Raph” he grumbled shifting slightly before opening one of his eyes to see Leo and Donnie motioning for him not to move grinning like crazy before Mikey was jumping up and down next to them quickly taking a picture as it hit him the person was still laying at his side “Stay quiet and look down”
He moved to his side looking down to see the little girl curled up with the turtle doll he had given her a few years back next to him, he gently moved laying down with one arm under his head seeing the shock on the other’s face when he pulled her closer to his chest nuzzling against her before closing his eyes so relaxed he actually wanted her to stay there
He grinned as the kid shifted closer wrapping one arm around his arm as her face pressed into his neck breathing deep as he realized she was fast asleep
Leonardo ushered the others up the stairs coming back to thrown a blanket over the two snoozing forms “One word from any of ya and I’ll beat the green of ya three”
“Never dreamed of it little brother”
He heard his brother walk away before opening his eyes looking down at the sleeping girl gently brushing a few strands of hair out of her face leaning in pressing a small kiss to her cheek hearing her giggle in her sleep before she glanced up at him as he growled at her in a way that had her smiling meeting his golden eyes before she leaned closer pressing a sweet kiss to his nose seconds later she was nuzzling into his chest falling back asleep easily
He stayed still taking the moment to watch her smirking at her silent thank you before looking up seeing his father had come down to see where the girl had run off too
The smile on his father’s face was so warm seeing his usually temperamental son and the tiny girl in one of the tiny nest as he moved closer to check on his two children brushing a paw over both their heads making Raphael pull her to him before hearing his father chuckle tucking them in more
He wasn’t sure when the old rat left but soon found he was dosing off again holding tight to her
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
He groaned waking up under the basking lamps feeling a slight pressure on his carapace that hadn’t been there when he had fallen asleep hours ago opening his golden eyes slowly glancing back to see somebody curled up on his shell snoring softly as a few strands of hair tickled his cheek
Just another normal day like it had been for the last ten years
“Really ya little shit – Ay kid…”
The seventeen year old didn’t respond to his words and there was no telling how long she had been laying on him so he shifted knocking her off his back so she landed in the blankets and pillows rolling over as she snapped awake giving a small startles yelp looking up when he rolled over to his side growling down at her before she moved pressing a soft kiss to his nose curling into his chest giggling when his arms went around her waist kissing at her throat as she groaned at the affection holding tight to his arms as he nuzzled his face further into her neck
“I was comfortable up there asshole”
He could tell she was dosing off in his strong embrace “Sorry kid… but I tell ya all the time it ain’t comfortable ta me” he gently wrapped his arms around her body tighter hearing her sigh as he pulled her up until he could capture her soft pink lips under his grinning as she groaned into the kiss wrapping her arms around his neck as his fingers traced over the smooth skin on her sides
He rolled her over pinning her beneath him feeling her holding tight to him as he shoved her legs apart getting between them seeing he could easily start something right now and she wouldn’t fight him “Ya like being laid on ya little shit cause it annoys me to no fucking end”
“We both know I like you laying on me… your just too heave to actually do it” she tried to roll away grinning as he pulled her back worshipping the smaller body of his mate caressing the skin showing to his eyes as she moaned wanting him to keep going “What happened to the Raphie who didn’t like me”
“He fell in love with a six year old brat that wouldn’t leave him be”
She peaked up at his with a small grin before he was pulling her with him laying back on his shell letting her rest on his plastron “Really-” he tried to make her comfortable as she looked down at him but could see she was more than content with where she was “She sounds awesome if she got you to loosen up”
“Yer right – but she gorgeous too… most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen” he saw her lips crack into a small smile before he was kissing her neck again licking over the spot that drove her crazy seeing the small blush on her cheeks as he tried to seal the deal with her “Hard to believe she fell for me”
He had left himself right open and realized it too late as she looked up at him before curling up on him again “I know right… something must seriously be wrong with her” he looked over as she grinned before he was grabbing her waist finally catching what she had said hearing her giggle wildly as he tickled her trying to get away from his grasp even if it was useless
“Ya little shit” he flipped them over hearing her laughing harder now that he knew what had just been said, he quickly grabbed the smaller figure as she tried to scurry away pulling her under him holding her down as she made an effort to struggle “Say yer sorry and I might be nice”
She grinned up at him before leaning in pressing her lips to his nose shaking her head ‘no’ grinning wickedly as he shoved her legs open kissing down her neck as she bucked up against him groaning when his hands started drifting lower “Say it kid”
“NO RAPHIE…” he chuckled nipping at her neck trying to be gentle as she gasp at the simple pleasure of his teeth brushing over her skin “Oh Raph-” he did it once more feeling her wrapping both arms around his neck as he rubbed against her
“Say it” she didn’t move as he kissed down her spine being sure to caress her until she was a mess beneath him but still didn’t speak making him sigh knowing he needed to pull out the big guns if he was going to get anywhere with the teen “Please say it love – I just want to hear it”
She giggled hearing the pleading knowing he wasn’t one for begging but smiled lovingly back at him as he continued to show her attention finally giving as she flipped over under him pressing a quick kiss to his chest plate “I love you hothead”
“Well – I guess that works too…” she playfully glared at him but couldn’t stop herself from laughing at him as he leaned down over her lifting her chin until his lips were over hers this time deepening the kiss as she went limp beneath him giving into his need to be near her “Love ya too baby”
He shifted pulling her up into his arms as he got up off the ground going to take her to their room to continue the fun where his family wouldn’t see looking down as he locked the door grinning to see her smiling as she rested in his arms
He didn’t know how it happened or why but somehow he had been lucky to find the one girl in this world who could put up with his temper, blowups, attitude, and all the other downfalls he had that were less than appealing yet still look up to him with such affection was beyond his rational way of thinking
Basking seemed to be the only thing they both did without the arguing except making love – but he wouldn’t change a thing for the world

Week 16 Fantasy Busts: Inconsistent Brandin Cooks set to disappoint
yahoo
Week 16 Fantasy Lames: Grinch side of Green to make yet another appearance
Each week the Noise highlights 10 somewhat un-obvious names whom he believes are destined to implode leave egg on his face. To qualify, each player must be started in at least 50 percent of Yahoo leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post results, whether genius or moronic, the following week using the scoring system shown here (Thresholds – QB: 18 fpts, RB: 12 fpts, WR: 11 fpts, TE: 10 fpts). If you’re a member of TEAM HUEVOS, reveal your Week 16 Lames in the comments section below.
Drew Brees, NO, QB (87 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $33) Matchup: vs. Atl Unthinkable. Unconscionable. Flat out nuts. Not long ago even entertaining the thought of shying away from Brees at home was insane. He’s an inner-circle Hall fo Fame quarterback with a years long history of public humiliations inside the Superdome. His historic averages are obscene – 101.4 passer rating, 7.98 ypa, 291.3 yards per game, 2.3 passing touchdowns per game. But as this year’s Saints have evolved into a ground-stressed team, Brees has actually proven mortal at times within friendly confines. Against Detroit, Chicago and Carolina he failed to surpass 15 fantasy points. Uncharacteristic. This week, the QB and his cohorts welcome a very familiar foe, Atlanta. In the first matchup just two weeks ago, at the swanky Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Brees notched a very employable 271-2-1 line. However, no two contests are rarely the same. As has been the case for the entire regular season’s second half, Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara are sure to be game plan centerpieces. Atlanta has fumbled horribly containing versatile RBs this season giving up a league-high 92 receptions and 55.3 receiving yards per game to the position. It’s certainly possible his production comes via dump-offs, but downfield connections are another story. This season, the Falcons, led by Desmond Trufant (57.4 catch% allowed), have surrendered just 6.8 yards per attempt and 1.2 air touchdowns per game. Brees has barbecued the Dirty Birds in his illustrious career, but this time, he forgets to pack the hot sauce.
Fearless Forecast: 266 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 1 interception, 13.7 fantasy points
Jamaal Williams, GB, RB (53 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $15) Matchup: vs. Min Glancing at Williams’ college film and various scout opinions one persistent thought comes to mind – JAG. No, that doesn’t mean he’s the next Natrone Means or Fred Taylor. It’s an acronym that stands for “Just a Guy.” To be fair, he greatly exceeded all expectations operating as the Packers’ lead back from Weeks 10-14. Over a five-game stretch he totaled the sixth-most valuable output among all RBs averaging 95.8 total yards per game with five touchdowns. But secondary metrics reveal true colors. During that same span he ranked No. 29 in yards after contact per attempt and No. 30 in elusive rating according to Pro Football Focus. That’s on par with Kerwynn Williams, an appropriate talent comp. Truthfully, the BYU product isn’t special. Aaron Jones is Green Bay’s true top RB. Simply, he’s more athletic, more explosive and more elusive, an overall better fit. After Williams lumbered last week (10-30-0), it’s possible Mike McCarthy gives Jones additional work, especially when considering the opponent. Outside of blips against Detroit, Cleveland and Carolina, the Vikings have encased most straight-line runners in ice. On the year, they’ve surrendered the fewest fantasy points to RBs yielding 3.62 yards per carry, 104.4 total yards per game and eight touchdowns. With a potential 50-50 split on the immediate horizon and given the horrendous matchup, Williams is demote worthy, with or without Aaron Rodgers at the controls.
Fearless Forecast: 12 carries, 43 rushing yards, 3 receptions, 14 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 7.2 fantasy points
Marshawn Lynch, Oak, RB (73 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $14) Matchup: at Phi Eggnog isn’t for everyone. Its creamy texture and overt sweetness don’t tickle many taste buds. In order to consume multiple moose mugs of it alcohol is necessary. That, at least, is how we roll at the Evans compound. Lynch, like the classic holiday beverage, isn’t loved by some. His controversial Anthem protests and demonstrative nature turn many people off. For others, however, his unbridled joy, between-the-tackles doggedness and fierce loyalty to Oakland are admired. It’s been a rocky return to old stomping grounds for Beast Mode. He, as usual, has generated appreciable yards charging downhill. HIs 1.89 yards created per touch, which tracks gains made after running around or through the first defender, ranks No. 7 among all RBs. Additionally, he checks inside the top-six in juke rate, total evaded tackles (75) and yards per carry versus stacked fronts (4.4). But his surface production hasn’t quite matched the secondary metrics. Currently RB18 in standard formats, he’s largely been matchup dependent. Unfortunately, this week doesn’t present a favorable opportunity. Fletcher Cox and friends consume RBs with the voracity of Santa at a Mrs. Fields. This year, the Eagles have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points, 3.19 yards per carry, six rushing TDs and, get this, 50.8 rushing yards per game to RBs. Kareem Hunt, Todd Gurley and Alfred Morris are the only plowshares to top 65 ground yards against them. Throw in the strong possibility of an insurmountable early deficit and the odds of Lynch finishing top-30 seems long.
Fearless Forecast: 14 carries, 52 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 13 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.0 fantasy points
A.J. Green, Cin, WR (95 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $27) Matchup: vs. Det
It never ceases to amaze how many people steadfastly stand by their “studs.” The idea is the siren’s song of fantasy. Start Player X because of previous accomplishments and he’s a near lock for profitable numbers. However, last week, Green donned an embarrassing pink bunny suit. Jailed by Xavier Rhodes, quite possibly the best shadow corner currently in the NFL, he sunk millions of gamers with an impractical 2-30-0 line. In response, “Fudge” wasn’t exactly the word his backers uttered. The former All-Pro only has one direction to go, but another effort outside the WR top-30, which would be his eighth this season, is entirely plausible. Full disclosure, the Lions have surrendered the most receptions to WRs over the last eight weeks. Additionally, on the season, 10 wide receivers have notched 70 yards or more against them. But much of that production was generated by underneath weapons. The reason? Darius Slay. Similar to Rhodes, he’s shadowed some of the game’s elites and turned them into paupers. Odell Beckham (3-30-0), Julio Jones (4-50-0), Michael Thomas (1-4-0) and Antonio Brown (1-9-0) are just a few unfortunate souls who felt the DB’s wrath. Bill Lazor will attempt to move Green about to exploit softer matchups, but considering the broken state of the Bengals as a whole, particularly the offensive line, there’s no guarantee Andy Dalton feeds his top option. Don’t shoot your eye out. Count on JuJu Smith-Schuster (at Hou), Sterling Shepard (at Ari), Robert Woods (at Ten) or Keelan Cole (at SF) instead.
Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 62 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.7 fantasy points
Brandin Cooks, NE, WR (93 percent started; Yahoo DFS: $25) Matchup: vs. Buf
The lone arrow Cooks fires this week is sure to penetrate the heart of his owners. He’s served up a few holiday treats here and there, but, for the most part, Tom Brady’s primary downfield threat has resembled a pricier Robby Anderson. His WR12 standing in fantasy points per game is a tad deceiving. Because Brady prefers culinary variety, the receiver has disappeared in several instances throughout the season. In six of 14 games he fell outside the WR top-24. With a dependable ground attack, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Hogan (when healthy) and other mouths to feed, Cooks simply isn’t overly reliable. When matched against uncongenial secondaries (e.g. New Orleans, Miami and Los Angeles) his production soured. His first battle with Buffalo, in Week 13, was one such occasion. Targeted a season-low three times, he hauled in a useless two catches for 17 yards. The Bills play loose in the trenches, but when it comes to defending the pass they’re rather stiff. Corners E.J. Gaines and Tre’Davious White have allowed a combined 70.5 passer rating and 54.8 catch percentage to their assignments. If Gaines is unavailable this week (knee), Shareece Wright (84.0 passer rating allowed) should fill in adequately. In total, Buffalo has yielded only four touchdowns and the fourth-fewest fantasy points to WRs since Week 8. Nearly identical to the first matchup, Gronk and the ground game, even down Rex Burkhead, will be emphasized resorting Cooks to a bit player.
Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 67 receiving yards, 0 touchdowns, 8.7 fantasy points

Winning is something everyone dreams about especially race car drivers, for those in NASCAR lucky enough to visit victory lane more then once there seems to be a win that shows the begin of they're story. Kenny Wallace here behind the wheel this 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix is about to capture his first NASCAR win at Volusia County Speedway, already a successful race car driver before joining the ranks of NASCAR. This is not Wallace's very first win in auto racing as that honor would to his debut race in the Illinois Street Stock State Championship, nine years earlier since then he has worked way through ranks working as a mechanic and driver. He knows it's not easy since he comes from a racing family his older brother Rusty is a driver in the Winston Cup and is a former NASCAR Cup Champion, Rusty also owns the car Kenny is driving here in the NASCAR Busch Series. Kenny's sense of humor and playfulness earns him the nickname Herman after the troublemaking cartoon character Herman the German, but behind easygoing playful nature is a talented driver as he's about prove here in the 1991 Spring 200.
