Rock and pop albums that changed your life
TV historian Tony McMahon looks at rock and pop albums that changed his life in the 1970s and 1980s from Lou Reed to King Crimson
There’s a small number of rock and pop albums that impacted me like no other. As a teenager I stuck the vinyl on the turntable, placed the stylus down, and was blown away. The albums concerned are a varied bunch from punk to indie and prog rock. Yes – prog rock. Tell me which albums changed your life in the comments below but here goes with mine. CORRECT USE OF SOAP – MAGAZINE Punk was dead.…

time to read too much into things but it's interesting to me that Fripp said two of his favourite King Crimson lineups are the 1972 lineup with Jamie Muir and then the 80s Discipline quartet, and specifically mentions the symmetry and internal balance of these formations. then i look at the cover art for the studio albums for these lineups and i'm like... yeah... i can tell it was on your mind

King Crimson - "The Court Of The Crimson King" From the album In the Court of the Crimson King (October 10, 1969)
Last song scrobbled from iTunes at Last.fm
How cool is it that Alastair Reynolds called his aquatic Revelation Space aliens the Pattern Jugglers?
I really don't think it's measurable. It's off the motherfucking scale.

For all greg lake/elp fangirls, here you have an amazing (but short) track, thats almost only clean-voice greg singing. Also this is a lovely underrated album (that may sound "too much alike" to its predecesor but is still good).
Give it a shot if you care.
Cadence and Cascade is a gorgeous song, so calm. Same with "peace - a theme" (only instrumental). Theres also a more funky and psych track, "Cat food" wich i love, but its also really hated by lots heh.
Most of the songs in the album are sang by Greg! Weirdly enough, i didnt realize this till two or three weeks ago when i first listened to it. Its kind of a forgotten King Crimson album.
This was released only a couple of months before elp released their first album, and when KC original formation was falling apart, then Fripp kinda saved all and changed the sound of the band, but it was a breaking point.
If you liked ITCOTCK, you are probably going to like this!
