So, I've been thinking a lot about social media in Young Royals, specifically related to Wille, and what it means that he has an Instagram account.

We know he has an account, because he uses it to look at pictures of his crush Simon in literally one of the first episodes.

But I'm wondering if he has a public account, and if so, why they made that decision. He almost must have, because in season 2 he threatens to go live on Instagram, so he must have an account that people follow.

When looking at real world royals, you will find that there's absolutely 0 social media presence. There's no King of the Netherlands account, or King Charles account, not even the Gen Z princesses of the Netherlands have a presence. Those further removed from the throne (like Countess Eloise van Oranje, who has turned to the influencer life style) are more likely to have one, but anyone in the direct family of at least the families I looked at, don't have one. Even Meghan Markle doesn't have an Instagram account as far as I can tell. The most you'll find are fan pages of these people which... I can go on a whole tangent about but that's not for now.

But in YR, it seems like Wille does have some form of online presence, and I've seen it in fics too, and I'm genuinely wondering why they made that decision. Even if he has one, it has to be very carefully curated, and I suppose that all of his posts need to be checked in some form right? Like there's no way he has full control, if any, over his social media presence.
