As per Tribe of Darkness tradition, they were to be arranged married to keep the magic strong in the tribe, so this unfortunately meant they were also second-cousins. Where the cold and stern Malicieux was unhappy with the choice they gave him as a wife and not choosing who he could be with, Chandelle tried to make the best of it. But this also meant the abuse she took at the hands of her husband..

Unfortunately, Chandelle also had a genetic disorder from said Tribe and it left her usually chronically ill in bed. She was still the only person in Blumiere's life who was kind and nurturing up until her death from birthing a stillborn second son, which was a fate her husband made her carry out. However, this selfish act drove Malicieux deeper into emotionally neglecting their young prodigal son, Blumiere.

Count Malicieux (Bleck's father) had seared Timpani's hair off, burnt her and burned her house down before sending her between realms. I thought it was more important to draw Timpani, as her trauma from his father is different than Blumiere's trauma, which is primarily neglect. Because of Malicieux, Timpani still to this day gets easily suspicious and on edge around people, fearing they'll take advantage of her.

So seeing Guiro light up for the first time definitely was traumatic for Timpani, in terrified shock she had dropped him accidentally. It was hard for the both of them.

Merlon was the only person who saw Timpani when she was found in that burnt state, which begun their precious fatherly/teacher-student bond.
