He is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and has a long political career, including serving as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and representing Bodinga Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He also previously chaired the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Jumoke Oduwole – Minister of Industry Jumoke Oduwole is an academic and advisor, formerly serving as Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business from 2019 to 2023. Before this, she was the Senior Special Assistant on Industry, Trade, and Investment in the Office of the Vice President. Currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Lagos, her expertise in international law and economics positions her well for her new portfolio. Nentawe Yilwatda – Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Hailing from Plateau State, Nentawe Yilwatda is a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Yilwatda is a lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi and previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State, having been appointed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by former President Muhammadu Buhari. Idi Maiha – Minister of Livestock Development Idi Maiha is a business executive and former Managing Director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company. He is currently the Chairman and CEO of Zaidi Farms Limited, a leading agricultural enterprise based in Kaduna. His appointment to the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development reflects his extensive background in agribusiness and corporate leadership. Yusuf Ata – Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development Yusuf Ata is a seasoned educator and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly. He previously served as Special Adviser to the Governor of Kano on Assembly Matters and later on Inter-Governmental Affairs. With deep roots in Kano’s political scene, his experience in governance will be valuable in his new ministerial role. Suwaiba Ahmad – Minister of State, Education Suwaiba Ahmad is a trained educationist and gender advocate, currently a lecturer at Bayero University Kano. Man, two sons killed in Anambra building collapse

A builder identified as Chizoba Aniefuna and his two sons have lost their lives following the collapse of a one-storey building in Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. One of the relatives of the builder, who was also trapped in the building, was rescued and rushed to St. Felix Hospital, Nnewi. Reacting to the unfortunate incident, Anambra State Chairman of Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Engr. Victor Meju stated that the poor quality of materials and non-approval from relevant regulatory authorities led to the avoidable tragedy. He noted that Chukwunafu Anamanjo, the owner of the building, will be invited for questioning to aid in the investigation as he ordered the seal-off of the collapse site. Read the full article

Umo Eno Challenge COREN at 31st Engineering Assembly By Aniefiok Christopher The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has asked Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to enforce discipline and be ready to sanction erring professionals with repeated cases of contraption to serve as deterrent and boost the morale of compliant practitioners. Pastor Eno stated this yesterday at the ongoing 31st Engineering Assembly holding at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on the theme, "Entrenching and Strengthening Engineering Practitioners' Code of Conduct for Resilient Engineering Practice in Nigeria". The Governor who was invited to speak at the event as special guest of honour, was represented by the State Commissioner for Power, Engr Camillus Umoh. The 3-day event is meant to sharpen the skills of Engineering practitioners in the built environment, considered as a catalyst for sustainable national infrastructure development. The Governor's representative underscored the need for order, if organizations must operate optimally, adding that the absence of order amount to a call for anarchy. "Codes of Engineering practice, confer order and allow for development control. They provide the framework for the practice of Engineering in carrying out the development agenda in society" the Governor had hinted. He listed requirements needed to deliver the pertinent development imperative to include a legal and legislative framework in support of the required statutes thereto, knowledge by the practitioners of the expectations through a handbook, procedural guide, discipline and consistency of application at all times. Engr. Umoh among other requirements emphasized the need to create awareness to the receiving public of the base requirements as well as structure and capacity to implement sanctions where deviations occur. "For us as Government, we cede the technical role responsibilities to the MDAs where Engineering skillset resides; Works, Power, Industries and Petroleum Resources. In each of these hubs, there exists an internal ombudsman mechanism for compliance monitoring and assurance roles" he noted. The Commissioner informed participants at the conference led by the President of COREN, Engr. S. Z. Abubakar, that Akwa Ibom State Government have done well to engage and involve build/infrastructures environment professionals in delivery of its democracy dividends through infrastructures and facility assets in the basket of socio-economic benefits for the people. Other attendees from Akwa Ibom State were the MD/CEO of Hensek Integrated Services Limited, Engr. Uwem Okoko, the President, National Association of Technological Engineers, (NATE) Engr. Dominic Udoatan, and the HOD, Electrical Engineering Department, AkwaPoly, Engr. Nsikak Afia.
