How much do former US Presidents get paid?
Did you know that former US Presidents are eligible for a pension after leaving office? The amount is determined by the Former Presidents Act (FPA) and is not means-tested, meaning former Presidents can receive the full pension even if they have significant personal wealth. In addition to the pension, former Presidents also receive other benefits such as office space, staff, and travel expenses. However, impeached or removed Presidents are not eligible for the pension, and those who resign or are removed before completing their term cannot receive it either. The presidential pension for Barack Obama was $207,800 per year, but as of 2021, the annual pension for a former President is $219,000. Stay tuned to learn more about the FPA and presidential pensions.
