Country Bowls Club The home game against Greenland’s Chestnuts on Monday gave the Flamingos another valuable 10 points. Almost a complete ‘roasting’ which leaves the Flamingos handily placed in second position, albeit with the next two games being away against their nearest rivals. Well done to the following: John Jukes, Derek Jiggins & Geoff Paylor. 18 – 11 Pat Patton, Brian Patton & Dennis Birkett. 32 – 18 Sylvia Rennie, Graham Richardson & Jim Rennie. 25 – 10 Lynne Bryce, Pat Ray & Brian Ray. 18 – 16 Pat Emmett, Ray Emmett & Gordon Dixon. 20 – 22 On Friday saw the Geckos welcoming El Rancho Broncos for an important match as only one point separated these two teams. The Geckos have been improving each week as the team become more accustomed to the consistency that is required for success in the second division. On Friday morning they excelled. Every rink determined to win and focused on doing just that. The Broncos played well but the Geckos were an unstoppable force and stormed into the lead on every rink. On one rink El Rancho came back strongly and it was nip and tuck for the last few ends, going into the 18th, the Geckos were 1 shot up. With one bowl to play by the Broncos skip the Geckos were holding 3 shots and looking to complete a clean sweep but, with the last bowl the jack went into the side ditch for a dead end and so had to be played again. El Rancho managed to end the game with one shot up forcing a draw. Great game played in a really good sporting atmosphere. The final score gave a fantastic win to Country Bowls 11 – 1 with the shots 128 – 59. Winning rinks ; Graham Richardson, Pat Ray & Brian Ray. 26 – 8 Pat Patton, Dennis Wade & Brian Patton. 36 – 16 Sylvia Rennie, Jean Turner & Jim Rennie. 20 – 15 Carole Donnellan, Pat Emmett & Les Turner. 32 – 6 And the drawing rink. Derek Jiggins, Ray Emmett & Gordon Dixon. 14 – 14 On Friday afternoon the Cubs travelled to Vista Bella to play the top of the league Swingers and they were out to improve on their last encounter together. Whilst the overall score remained 10 -2 to Vista Bella, as was the case the last time, the Cubs managed to reduce the hefty loss they suffered last time. All in all a good improvement by the Cubs. Winning rink: Chris Stevens, Craig Dyson & Andy Bryce. The Pintos meanwhile were playing Emerald Isle Neptunes at home and put in a sterling performance to take 4 rinks and the overall shots by a comfortable margin. In the afternoon the Palominos were also at La Siesta playing the Sputniks and put in a good effort coming away with one rink and drawing another. Friday morning found the Mustangs playing host to Emerald Isle Claymores, whilst a few struggled to master the mat, it came to all in time. The Mustangs took 3 rinks and battled hard in the other two close run rinks and taking the overall shots by a comfortable 114 to 56. Judy Foley, Henry Ryder and Bob Morgan 12-15. Ann Taylor, Jim Taylor and David Whitworth 29-3. Keith Cunningham, Malc Sykes and Bob Taylor 23-11. Irene Thomson, Paul Durham and Eddie Thomson 34-6. Ron Greenstreet, Diane Yates and Jim Gracie 16-21. The Broncos meanwhile were at Country Bowls and had a tough match against the Geckos and came away with a drawn rink and a close defeat. The Rangers were at Greenlands against the Cedars and were up against good opposition including recent A division players, coming away without a point. After a cold start both the weather and the Falcons started to heat up. Apart from one rink the match was very close indeed, with the lead going back and forth a few times. It was anyone’s win. In some rinks it was all down to the last end. In the end the Falcons managed a win on 2 rinks with a draw on another. Our winning rinks were: Mark Jukes, Roy Thomson and John Bailey 17 – 15 Wayne Jackson, Les Davies and Mick Kirby 20 – 17 The draw rink was: Margaret Odell, Ron Odell and Bryan Eatough 19 -19 The final result was shots for 79 to 93 against, giving the overall shots to Greenlands. Total points for Horadada was 5 and 7 to Greenlands. Very well played to all our players. Maybe next week we’ll get that winning result. Friday was the turn of the Horadada Royals to show what they can do at home to the Montemar Toreadors. The sun shone brightly and it was a beautiful warm day for bowling. Unfortunately the result didn’t quite go our way. We were beaten by a better team on the day. With that said we did have 2 winning rinks who finished with quite a good shot difference: Judith Simpson, Alan Miller and Terry Hucknall 35 – 19 John Goddard, Ken Baber and Barry Evans 20 – 10 Very well played to those team members who got us the 4 points. The final shot result actually finished quite close with Horadada getting 95 to Montemar’s 101 giving them 8 points. Keep ‘em bowls a rollin’ Horadada. Costa Blanca South Bowls Roundup 3 Feb 19
El Rancho Bowls Club Monday morning found the Pintos playing the Dalmations at San Miguel in a nippy and tricky wind, but the Mustangs persevered and came away with a very good result, taking 4 of the 5 rinks and the overall shots. Malc Sykes, John Skipper and Jim Gracie 20-10. Ann C Taylor, Denise Morgan and Bob Taylor 20-16. Ron Greenstreet, Diane Yates and Bob Morgan 20-13. Irene Thomson, Keith Cunningham and Eddie Thomson 20-16. Brian Gilham, Paul Durham and David Whitworth 13-20. Meanwhile the Raiders had a bye.The Palominos were at home to another San Miguel team, the Pointers, who went away with all the points. But there is no shame in that, as all continue to hone their skills and gain experience, with two of the rinks losing by just one shot. On Friday morning the Rangers took on Emerald Isle Outlaws at home and although they took just one rink, they lost another by just one shot and had another close match. However with the introduction of 5 rink matches and more team, I think some players are in a lower division than they would have been and it is only fun after all. Meanwhile the Mustangs were at San Luis playing the Tigers and played some tough matches, but came away just the one rink, but we had good fun and some interesting bowls. In the afternoon the Broncos played the Miners at Mazarron and put in a good performance to come away with 2 rinks. For further membership information contact Sheila Cox at [email protected] or Brian Taylor on 965077093 or at [email protected] COUNTRY BOWLS CLUB For the third time in seven days Country Bowls played host to a team from La Siesta ( they must like us! ). The Pioneers arrived full of optimism but left feeling down after a heavy defeat. Well done Flamingos. Winning rinks: Agnes Burke, Pat Ray & Brian Ray 30 – 8, Rob Hallam, Graham Richardson & Jim Rennie 16 – 12, Craig Dyson, John Burke & Dennis Birkett 25 -11, John Jukes, Derek Jiggins & Geoff Paylor 20 – 9. Great result. Middle of the league Country Bowls welcomed leaders Greenland’s Cedars to a wet and windy miserable Friday morning in the Valle Del Sol. The Cubs stacked up ready to do battle and try to improve on their 10 – 2 defeat from the first leg. Everyone dug deep and the standard of bowling was exceptional, the Cubs held their own at the half way mark. The wind continued to blow and the bowling didn’t ease. In the end, the newly developed Cubs for this season took the spoils on three rinks and drew on one giving an overall score of 9 – 3 to the Cubs. Winning rinks; Chris Stevens, Craig Dyson & Andy Bryce. Steve Mattison, Agnes Burke & Lynne Bryce. Sandra McIlroy, Dot Davies & Peter Robins. What a fantastic and encouraging result. Well done Cubs. In the afternoon the Geckos travelled to Quesada to play a strong team currently lying third, just one point behind the second place team La Siesta Golds. Quesada proved to be too strong for the Geckos winning on three rinks and winning the overall shots. The Geckos winning teams are; Pat Patton, Dennis Wade & Brian Patton, Sylvia Rennie, Jean Turner & Jim Rennie. A reasonably good performance by the Geckos against such a strong team away from home. We only managed one winner so congratulations to the rink of Roy Thompson, Dennis Wade, Fred Trigwell and Brian Patton who won 19 - 12. One of our other men’s rinks had a very close match but were just pipped at the post. In spite of the result a good day was had by all as both the weather and the company were excellent. This was a good experience to play with what you would call ‘better bowlers’. Many thanks to Country Bowls for hosting the event and providing a very good meal afterwards. On Monday the Falcons in the Discovery Division were away to Quesada Rubies. Not a good result for us as we only won on one rink. Our winning rink was: Debbie Perryman Fred Trigwell and Barry Evans 14 – 12. The final result being 55 shots for to 83 against. 2 points to Horadada to 10 for Quesdada. Onwards and upwards Falcons, keep going. Friday saw Horadada Royals away to San Miguel Boxers. The weather was a bit iffy. Will it rain or not? The rain stayed away till the last 2 ends. It came down quite heavily and everything changed! Again not a good result for Horadada. But team don’t despair, we had one winning rink and as is unusual for a report, I feel I have to mention the one rink that was a nearly! It was down to the last end and when rain postponed play, the skips were still to bowl. Not looking good for Horadada as we were 4 shots down, then our skip came in and moved the jack back to give us two shots up. Nail biting stuff, have we just got it? No, ‘cause opposition skip came in with last wood and claimed shot. Horadada lost by 2 shots. Our winning rink was: John Goddard, Jack Linehan and Barry Evans 18 – 15. Well played Guys. Final score was shots for 70 to 120 against. Points gained 2 to 10 against. Keep ‘em bowls a rollin’ Horadada. We can show ‘em! Horadada offers a warm welcome to new or experienced bowlers, and provides the necessary equipment. Our roll-up days for this friendly club are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings. Please contact Fred Trigwell on 659139129 for more information. After a very competitive and close match, the Pearls won on 3 rinks, lost one and drew one. So they won overall 9 - 3 points with the shots 91-88. This means they’ve held on to their 4th place in the league just 2 points behind San Miguel Beagles. Meanwhile, Quesada Diamonds entertained San Miguel Beagles at home. Good mornings bowling with some really close scores, 3 rinks were won on the last end, against a very strong San Miguel side. COSTA BLANCA BOWLS ROUNDUP - 25 FEB 17
EL RANCHO BOWLS CLUB
The Pintos, on Monday, played host to the Greenland Sycamores on a horrendous day for bowls, with a strong gusting and cold wind. But the Pintos having the advantage of the home mat, adjusted to the conditions sooner than their worthy opponents and took 5 rinks and the overall shots, well worth getting out of bed for.
Meanwhile the Broncos travelled to the Emerald Isle to play the Moonrakers in very difficult conditions on an away mat, but although they came away without a point, the ones I spoke to this morning had enjoyed the experience and one or two had been close matches.
Friday morning brought the Vistabella Conquistadors to El Rancho to play the Raiders, alas the opposition failed to provide a full team and conceded one rink, but took two, and hence the Raiders took the points by 10-4. Helga Schiffman, Gill Bartlett and Rob Clark drew the conceded rink and I am sure would rather have played. Pam Harris, Malc Elmore and Brian Harris 19-14. Marion Haynes, Diane Yates and Dave Haynes 13-18. Edward Elsam, Tony Robinson and Graham Day 18-10. Ngaio Baldwin, Bob Easthope and Gary Newson 23-14. Tricia Elsam, Peter Blackburn and Keith Longshaw 16-23.
In the afternoon the Mustangs played host to the Emerald Isle Claymores, struggled a little without complaint, to master the speed of the mat. Though they played well and took 2 rinks, although some of the scores had large points differentials, the game play was close. Judy Foley, Keith Cunningham and Geoff Jones 15-10. Barbara Jones, Sheila Cooper and Jane Hamill 15-22. Ann Taylor, Malc Sykes and Jim Gracie 34-8. Irene Thomson, Jim Taylor and Eddie Thomson 33-7. Maxine Wright, John Skipper and Rod Wright 14-21. Henry Ryder, Jan Bright and Richard Lee 26-6. For membership details contact Brian Taylor on 965077093 or at [email protected] or Carolyn Harris on 966774316 or at [email protected]

LA MARINA REPORT BY BARRY LATHAM
This week has started off a bit like last week. Oops. The Explorers wended their way to the place on the hill only to lose 11-3 at Vistabella Albatrosses. I’m sure there is a saying about Albatross. Margaret & Rob Finlayson plus Maureen Kidd managed a draw, Jim & Kathy Manning and Reg Jackson drew while our winning rink comprised of Dave Hadaway, Arthur Cronk and the inevitable Anne Stone.
Next came the Pathfinders who went to play at San Miguel Comets and lost 10-4. Two winners were John Rae, Mick Fitzgerald and Lynne Armitage 18-10 and David Taylor, Dave McGaw and Lorita Rae 22-16. Hooray for the Raes.
Okay so they don’t need us, extra holiday then. Well done to the Winter League at home versus San Miguel with a10-2 win. John Mallet, Peter Parsons, Roger Stacey and Maureen Kidd won19-15; the Armitages and the Taylors combined together to get 25-12 win; Dave Hadaway with his happy girls, Kathy Manning, Barbara Forshaw and Janet Parsons won18-15 and Alan Castle, Phil Pape, the Butlers won 22-9. No mention of Anne. San Miguel won the Berleen.
What a good Friday. All three teams winning. The Sharks played away against Vistabella Lanzadores and a close game it was, one rink drew, two others lost by one and one won by a lot. The big winner was Alan Castle, Phil Pape and Janet Parsons 32-6. The other winners were Margaret and Rob Finlayson and Hilary Cronk; Alex Whyte, Dave Hadaway and Dave O’Sullivan while the ones who drew were Roy Hart, Peter Parsons and Andy Bartlett.
The Dolphins entertained La Siesta Blues and won a closely fought match with the two points for the overall score. John Rae, Dave McGaw and Roger Stacey won 18-15; Brian Duff, Martin Butler and Maria Duff won 19-11 while John and Shirley Withers and Angela Butler made sure we won the overall with a 27-6 win.
Last but not least the Seagulls nearly got their revenge when La Manga Crusaders visited us. 12-2 winners we were. Len Daniels, Steve Hindle and Berni Carr 29-12; Keep it in the family, Sue Daniels, Mike Stone and Mo Taylor 32-11; John Morgan, Clive Pratt and Dave Bulfield 31-6; Colin Armitage, Arthur Cronk and Anne Stone 23-10; Dave Taylor, Gina Hindle and Lynne Armitage 22-15.
LA SIESTA BOWLS CLUB BY ROD EDGERTON
The week began with no fixture for the Pioneers and so the only match involved the Apollos who had a home match,in very windy weather, against Emerald Isle Neptunes.Despite convincing wins for Barbara and Jack Cooper with Vic Mahomet 32-6 and Irene Laverick with Pat and Brian Harman 20-12 the only other point came from Ann and Robert Heath who rescued a draw 18-18 with a final end getting four shots. The overall shots being 97-110.The points 9 to the Isle 5 to La Siesta.
Mixed fortunes in The Fed 4’s with the Hoopoes gaining a 6-2 home win against Montemar whilst the Parakeets lost away at Horadada by the same scoreline. Wins for the Hoopoes came from Rod Edgerton,Bill Jordan with Florence and Mike Edwards 23-7 and by Val Dalton,Norman Adcroft Jack Cooper and George Richardson 18-14 whilst Ann and Robert Heath with Tony Dalton and Vic Mahomet lost by a single shot. The winning rink for the Parakeets,in tricky conditions, at Horadada came from Joy and Brian Gardiner with Tony Campbell and Jean Cooper 17-14.
The Winter League saw the visit of Vistabella to our home and they gained revenge from the reverse fixture with a 10-2 win. Our winning rink was Joy Gardiner,Trish Reilly with Bill and Sue Jordan who won 25-15.Bad luck for the rink of Ann Edgerton, Jack Cooper,Pat Reilly and Mike Edwards who lost by a single shot in a match that was in doubt until the skips delivered their last bowl.
The Blues travelled to La Marina to play the Dolphins and suffered a narrow 8-6 reverse the shots score being a close 85-93. Winning rinks for La Siesta were Ann and Robert Heath with Pat Harman 23-9,Joy Gardiner,John Taylor and Jean Cooper 16-8 and Barbara Cooper,Vic Mahomet and Mike Edwards 14-12.
Not such good news for the Golds who lost their away match at Emerald Isle Outlaws without recording any winning rinks. On the day they faced some excellent bowling by their opponents.
Finally, some good news to report one of our stalwart members Roy Millward is at last out of hospital and on his way to recovery, although not yet available to receive visitors. We look forward to seeing both him and Sheila back on the rink as soon as possible.
