There were other JUST 395 students working simultaneously at Cornerstone Community Outreach, however I only had the opportunity to work with Adrian on one occasion. Together we assisted the kitchen staff to prepare dinner for the shelter residents. Other than the one interaction, I worked individually on this project.

2019 Christmas Fundraiser
Tumblr media
Chicago Tiny House’s 2019
Christmas Fundraiser
Cornerstone Community Outreach (CCO), is a Illinois not-for-profit organization, and was founded in 1989 to raise the quality of life for low-income residents in the Uptown area of Chicago. Over the last twenty-four years, CCO’s programs have expanded to serve nearly 500 men, women and children daily. With Cornerstone’s help these families and individuals can begin to build a new life, one step at a time. This year Chicago Tiny House has partnered with Cornerstone Community Outreach to collect new Men’s clothing. All year long there has been a shortage of men’s clothing especially plus size clothing items. During the month of December our fundraiser and Christmas wish is to collect items to relieve the need. We will be collecting Items that include: Hats Gloves Coats Shoes / Work Boots Socks T-shirts Underwear Belts (over size 30) Slacks / Jeans Suits Ties Help us dress Cornerstone’s single men for success this year in a new outfit or donate to our fundraiser. All clothing or funds collected with be allocated to Cornerstone’s single men’s shelter program on Christmas. There will be two collection points One directly at: Cornerstone Community Outreach  4628 N. Clifton Ave Chicago, Illinois 60640   The second drop off point is our front desk lobby headquarters located at: Chicago Tiny House Inc 920 West Wilson Ave  Chicago, Illinois 60640  All donations are tax deductible to the extent of Illinois law.For more information Click Here Read the full article

Approaching our service project was an experience of heightened anxiety for me, however spending my time at Cornerstone Community Outreach was immensely rewarding. Located at 4628 N. Clifton Ave., CCO was founded in 1989 to raise the quality of life for low-income and homeless residents in the Uptown area of Chicago, with a focus on transitional housing. From 2012 to 2015, Cornerstone has helped 780 homeless families and individuals successfully move into permanent housing, proving to be vastly effective at providing in-between shelter as a stepping-stone. Between November 1st and 15th, I had the pleasure of spending twenty hours alongside CCO’s hardworking volunteers and gracious residents. I spent most of my time in the kitchen preparing, cleaning, and serving food, however I also had the opportunity to work at the food pantry, make signs for an upcoming talent show, sort through donations, assemble furniture, and other random tasks around the outreach.
Below is an infographic I created about CCO and its services. I urge others to visit www.ccolife.org and get involved with this organization.
