How to help the people in Spain
As you may have seen online, Spain is going through a flash flood since October 29. It's mainly affected the Community of Valencia but also some parts of the south-west and the cold drop is now moving to the north-east.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
95 bodies have been found at the time I'm writing this (edit: 205 now), there's still people missing and entire towns are isolated as they don't have electricity and their roads have been destroyed. A lot of people don't have tap water or any means to cook. If you're wondering why people didn't evacuate beforehand, it's because authorities didn't care enough to warn people so technically everyone had to go to work and school. Though politicians should be held accountable, the most important thing at the moment is to help those in need. So here's some ways you can help both people and animals that have been affected.
NGOs and fundraisers
MOST NEEDED AT THE MOMENT: You can donate to Valencia's food bank by making a transfer to this bank account: ES86 2100 2806 6402 0009 8998.
Horta Sud is a county in Valencia that has been the most affected by the floodings. People are leaving their houses because they're scared of the infrastructure getting damaged and even walking by foot to Valencia capital to get food. You can help those families via this gofundme.
Hambre Cero is a Spanish non-profit that was founded after the earthquakes in Indonesia. They will be giving food to those who need it. Here's different ways you can donate.
This gofundme is joining efforts with the town hall of Valencia to help people who have lost their homes.
Una copa por Valencia ("a drink to Valencia") is a campaign organized by Spanish influencer David Aliagas. The idea behind it is to donate the amount of money you would spend on drinks on a night out. He'll be joining effort with local non-profits. You can help here.
Here's a thread of artists that are accepting commissions in exchange for donations for Valencia.
Spanish Kpop fans are organizing a collective fundraiser.
EDIT: took Cáritas and Spanish Red Cross out of this post after this tiktok made by a volunteer went viral and a lot of people posted their experiences working for these NGOs. Apparently they're not distributing food. Instead they're telling people not to send more food and send money instead so they can keep part of it.
Help people directly
Help Sara, Steven and Bruno rebuild their home in Valencia.
Help this high school teacher buy a new car to get back to work.
Raúl was about to open his barbershop on October 31 but it was destroyed by the flood. Please help him get his dream back.
Help the neighbours of Aldaia (Valencia) rebuild their homes.
This artist has been affected by the floods and lost their car. They've opened emergency commissions.
You can help rebuild the town of Letur (Albacete) by donating to this gofundme that's directly coordinated with the town hall.
Rebeca is a seamstress. Her studio was both her workplace and a place were came together for a sewing club in the afternoons. It was destroyed by the flood. You can help her rebuild it here
Animal shelters
Refugio Minipow was home to 50 rabbits and guinea pigs. Thankfully, the owners were able to move all the animals to their homes and those of their neighbors, though the shelter itself has been destroyed right after recent renovations. There's different ways to donate here.
El Refugio de María a dog shelter in Sueca (Valencia), is completely flooded, leaving the dogs visibly distressed, as shown here. You can donate to PayPal [email protected]
Modepran is a dog shelter in Campanar (Valencia) where infrastructure damage has left some dogs without a proper sleeping area. You can donate through PayPal here.
Gatos Campo de Gibraltar is a cat shelter in Los Barrios (Cádiz). need of assistance for relocating cats to new homes and rebuilding damaged facilities. You can donate to their PayPal [email protected]
Protectora San Antón is an animal shelter for cats and dogs in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). The entire place is flooded and the animals don't have a comfortable place to sleep in. Cats can't even walk on the ground. You can donate to their PayPal [email protected]
I'll be adding more as I find them. Thank you everyone for your help.
Edit: adding this because I keep seeing people on Twitter and Tiktok say it makes no sense to give money to people in a "first world" country. I need you people to understand that living in a western country doesn't equal politicians caring about you.
This whole thing started because politicians weren't doing their job and they're still not doing it. People (literal civilians, not firefighters or policemen) are literally pulling bodies from under cars and putting them inside the trunks so children in the affected areas don't see them. There's underground parkings still flooded by water and we don't know how many people may be inside them.
France offered to send us 200 firemen and the Ministry of Interior literally REFUSED. Some of these French firemen came on their own anyway. But that's what our politicians are doing. Negating help and pointing fingers at each other so they don't seem guilty.

Ricky Martin - La Bomba 1998
Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Ricky Martin began his musical career at twelve as a member of Puerto Rican boyband Menudo. His solo career started in 1991, and his third album, A Medio Vivir (1995), helped him rise to prominence in European countries.
"La Bomba" was the third single from his fourth studio album, Vuelve (1998). The album earned Martin his first Grammy Award. The song's title, which translates to "the Bomb" in English, is derived from the Afro-Puerto Rican dance music of the same name. Lyrically, it is a metaphor in which Martin compares the bomba music "to a drink that makes you drunk; the listener is high from the rhythm of the dance".
"La Bomba" is one of Martin's most commercially successful songs in his career. It was a top-five hit in Central American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The song peaked at number 27 on the US Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart while in the same week, the song peaked at numbers 11 and 13 on Billboard's Latin Pop Songs and Tropical/Salsa charts, respectively. In Spain, it reached number five, giving Martin his second top-five hit in the country, following his 1998 chart-topper hit, "La Copa de la Vida". "La Bomba" also peaked in the top 40 of several non Spanish-speaking countries, such as Australia and Sweden. It won the award for Best Danceable Tune at the 1999 Premios Eres.
"La Bomba" received a total of 85,3% yes votes!

The lights suddenly blaze to life, washing over you in a golden glow. The studio is humming with anticipation, every person on the edge of their seat, waiting for the magic to unfold.
You can feel the weight of the moment settle over you like a thick, electric current. The air is alive with energy, and the audience is holding its collective breath.
The set before you is a vibrant tropical paradise—artificial palms swaying, neon signs flashing bright colors, evoking the lively atmosphere of the Copacabana nightclub.
The unmistakable rhythm of Copacabana fills the room, its iconic melody flooding your senses and immediately pulling you into the world it creates.
The crowd's excitement swells, and you feel it surge within you, building with each passing second.
But none of that matters in this moment because your attention is fixed on him.
Lando.
Standing beside you, poised, confident, yet there’s something about him tonight that feels different.
His gaze, intense and unwavering, is locked onto you. The world around you disappears as the connection between you two becomes undeniable.
You know the dance will be beautiful. But with him, it feels like something more.
Your dress tonight is something out of a dream. It’s a shimmering see-through creation that flows around you with the grace of a bird in flight. The feathers catch the light with every movement, a delicate yet captivating halo around you. It clings to your curves in all the right places, while still allowing every twist and turn to be an expression of freedom.
You feel like you could disappear into the fabric itself, but the world is too enamored with you to look away. Your skin is radiant, glowing under the spotlight, your hair hanging freely on you shoulders.
You can hear the appreciative gasps from the crowd, but there’s only one person you’re dancing for tonight.
Lando’s hand reaches out for you. His touch is electric, the moment your fingers meet his, you feel it—a spark.
A pull.
There’s no question that this dance is yours, that the connection between you is deeper than any choreography.
As the first notes of Copacabana ring out, you both move as though it’s written in your very souls.
The music starts slow, a gentle, inviting rhythm, and you sway together.
The world falls away.
There’s only him.
There’s only you.
His movements are smooth, confident, guiding you into each step with the precision of someone who has danced his entire life.
And you follow.
Effortlessly.
You are weightless in his arms, each movement flowing from one to the next like a river that can’t be stopped. You are perfectly in sync, a harmony that feels destined.
Then the tempo picks up, the beat quickens, and so do your movements. The Cha Cha pulses through you both, and you can feel the energy shift.
Lando’s feet are swift, sure, leading you with such expert precision that you can’t help but smile. He twirls you out, your body spinning in the air, the feathers of your dress fluttering like a thousand delicate birds, catching the light with each twist. You land with perfect grace back in his arms, your bodies close, your heart racing with the exhilaration of it all.
Every movement feels like a conversation between you.
Each step, each glance, each touch, says everything. He’s not just your partner in this dance—he’s a reflection of you, and you of him. When your eyes meet, the chemistry between you is undeniable.
You both laugh, a playful sound that fills the space between you and the audience, and you’re filled with the rush of being seen, of being alive in this moment.
The audience feels it, too.
Their cheers rise, the applause a constant background to the music. But even in the spotlight, surrounded by a room full of people, it’s just you and Lando—moving, breathing, creating something magical together.
His hand is firm on your waist as you move into a difficult spin, your body effortlessly twirling in mid-air before landing back into his grasp.
The contact between you is electric, his fingers holding you just the right amount of pressure to remind you he’s always there.
You can feel the heat radiating from him, feel the unspoken connection that runs deeper than the music itself.
You spin again, your movements bold, the rhythm quickening, and as you whirl away from him, the dress catches the light in a thousand different ways.
It’s as if the world can’t help but follow your every movement, each beat making your body feel more alive.
You’ve danced before, but nothing like this.
There’s no doubt in your mind—the connection you share with him transcends just the steps of the dance.
It’s an understanding.
A bond.
A promise.
As the song nears its end, your movements become even more daring. You glide through the steps, feeling the thrill of it, the rush of excitement.
He spins you one last time, your body lifting in a perfect arc, the feathers of your dress soaring around you like the wings of an angel.
The music fades into its final, powerful beat, and you land in his arms again, both of you breathless, hearts pounding, bodies still pressed together in the aftershock of the performance.
For a moment, time seems to stop.
The audience is silent.
Then, in an eruption of sound, they cheer, clap, and shout their admiration. Their excitement is a wave crashing against the shore, and you and Lando stand together in the center of it, both of you breathless, faces flushed, heartbeats racing.
The applause is deafening, but you can’t pull your eyes away from him. There’s something in his gaze—something that goes beyond the performance, beyond the applause. It’s like a secret only the two of you share.
The judges stand to their feet, their applause joining that of the crowd.
The first judge smiles brightly, her voice filled with awe. “What we saw tonight wasn’t just a performance—it was a story told through movement. The chemistry between you two… it’s undeniable. You are both truly in tune with each other. It’s magnificent.”
The second judge nods enthusiastically. “The way you moved, the connection between you—it was like nothing we’ve ever seen. You brought the song to life in a way that left us all breathless. It’s an incredible performance.”
The third judge adds, “And let’s talk about the aesthetics. [Y/N], you were breathtaking tonight. The way your dress moved, the way you danced—it was as if you were one with the music.”
The words wash over you like a dream, but you don’t hear them. You’re still caught in the afterglow of the dance, of the heat between you and Lando.
He turns to you, his hand still resting on your waist, and his smile is all admiration, all pride.
The host approaches, his voice breaking through the moment as he addresses you both, the microphone a bridge between you and the world.
“That was something special,” he says, his eyes wide with amazement. “Lando, [Y/N], how does it feel to share such an undeniable connection on stage?”
You take a moment to catch your breath, the energy still buzzing in your veins. “It feels...” you begin, your voice soft but filled with the truth of the moment. “It feels like we’re exactly where we’re meant to be. We just... flow together. The music, the dance—it all comes so naturally with Lando.”
Lando smiles, a slow, knowing grin as his eyes meet yours. “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner,” he says, his voice low and sincere. “There’s something magical that happens when we dance together. It’s more than just the steps. It’s the way we connect. It’s electric.”
The host turns back to the audience, grinning. “Well, there you have it, folks. A performance that has set the bar impossibly high. Let’s hear it one more time for Lando and [Y/N]!”
The applause once again shakes the room, echoing through the studio, but you’re still caught in the look Lando gives you.
It’s more than just a performance.
It’s something deeper.
Something that will stay with you long after the stage lights have dimmed.
As you exit the stage, your hand still in his, you feel that pulse between you—the one that says this is just the beginning.

Barça's Little Buddha - Champions Journal Issue 16
Sometimes it's not just what you say, but how you say it, and as Graham Hunter discovers, Barcelona wonder kid Pedri is as cool, calm and collected in conversation as he is on the pitch.
For everyone involved, the atmosphere of a TV interview at the training ground of a major football club is usually at the rarefied end of the scale. This one is with Pedro González López - better known as Pedri - so it's important that everything is spot on. In truth, the empty room we've been given is functional and dull - two things we don't want the interview to be. However, there's nothing dull about the activity taking place: there's a whirl of moving parts and participants, busy constructing the 'studio' where part of this interview will be filmed. It's an intricate, intense and necessarily efficient business. A cameraman, two cameras worth tens of thousands of pounds, a producer, spotlights, backdrops, microphones, three club press officers, an interviewer (me) and ... the player.
Pedri appears to be in the eye of this hurricane of activity, unruffled and unperturbed. It makes a great metaphor for how Pedri plays - what it looks like when rivals fret and flock around him, trying to shackle his elegant imposition of intelligence upon Europe's football fields. But, right now, accompanying that preternatural calm is a gently amused smile. It is neither sardonic nor condescending; rather, it is the smile of someone who is deeply self-assured. And importantly, it reaches his eyes.
"My first club in Tenerife, Tegueste, were big on values. They instilled in us the idea that we shouldn't get angry during matches or argue with the referee - there's no point. They also taught us to have fun. Now, these days I do get angry occasionally. That's normal. But the self-discipline to stay calm and to do better next time you're on the ball can make the difference."
Not to overdo the theme, but Pedri's self-possession also helped him govern the emotions of moving to the Camp Nou in 2020. Just over two and a half years before, he'd been on trial at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training ground, which was a miserable experience: it was snowy, training was disrupted and those in charge told him he wasn't yet at their level. So, turning up at Barcelona with the impression that he might be put under contract only to be immediately loaned out meant guarantees were in short supply.
"When my family and I arrived at our hotel, I made a deliberate effort to stay calm. I knew that, at any time, the club might tell me they weren't going to sign me."
He was 16, small and slight, joining a great club in great turmoil. At the time of signing, he had only started for Las Palmas, in the second division, three times. After completing his first full senior season with the Canary Islanders, the best option that staying put at Barcelona seemed to offer was joining Barça B. But that's not what happened.
"The day Ronald Koeman told me that I could stay with his first team, that I might get a few minutes, was a huge shock - I really didn't expect it. The surprise opportunity filled me with determination to keep training hard, to compete fiercely and to immediately try to grab as much playing time as possible."
From his Barcelona debut (September 2020 against Villarreal) until the end of that season, Pedri played 73 times for club and country. He scored his first Champions League goal at 17; at 18 he won Spain's Copa del Rey and was named in the EURO 2020 team of the tournament (he also won the Young Player award for good measure). And now, aged 20, he has won his first Liga title.
No offence to the great sides that Pedri has faced across Europe, but his most ferocious rival so far might still be his own grandmom. The González family run an eatery in Tenerife and, as a kid, Pedri, his brother and mates would move the tables and chairs to play 2v2 football. One time, a wayward shot smashed a glass lantern; Grandma González was so furious that she tried to burst the ball with a knife. You soon learn tight control after a fright like that. So, is Pedri's ability to be surrounded by four or five opponents but skip free with the ball innate, or was it learned in the family restaurant?
"It's a bit of both. I was able to do some things like that when I was younger, and it's down to the work with all the coaches. But certain things stick with you and often you do things naturally, without thinking."
Champions League defenders, you have been warned: the boy's a natural.

Day 11 - Rio de Janeiro & Madonna
It’s Madonna day!! We have breakfast at the hostel - it’s packed with people and Madonna is still playing!
We use the morning to pack up and have some rest/catchup time. We don’t have to checkout until 12 and it’s so nice to have a slow morning after Iguazú.
At 12 we walk a few blocks to our accomodation for the next 5 nights. It’s a studio apartment less than 1 block back from Ipanema beach. The beach is packed and there are lots of planes going over with trailing banners
Tumblr media
We grab some pasta for lunch at a beach bar along with a couple of Brahmas…it’s very beery but it’s not too bad.
Tumblr media
Then we walk further down the promenade at Copa to find a place we could potentially go later tonight. The atmosphere is electric - the streets are packed with vendors yelling “MAAA..DONN-NAAA” selling everything Madonna branded from t-shirts to cangas (Brazilian beach towel/sarong hybrids). Over the afternoon we buy 2 t-shirts, a tote bag and a towel from various vendors. One nearly scams us by grabbing our card and tapping a second time but luckily it fails. We get to Copacabana Palace (the grand hotel that is exclusively booked out for the queen herself) and are gobsmacked by the scale of this event - they have built a bridge over the road presumably for Madge to directly enter the stage from the Palace. The stage is massive and screens go all the way down the beach.
Tumblr media
It’s really hot and we see the fire brigade hosing down the crowd - people are screaming with delight.
Tumblr media
There is a massive police presence and lots of streets are closed off so we get an idea of where we need to walk later. Time to head back to our apartment to freshen up and don our Celebration tour t-shirts.
When we arrive back at Copa the crowds getting into the event are much heavier and police have stopped metal detecting people but there is still space on the beach so we put our towel down and sit for an hour or two.
Beach vendors are passing constantly passing and selling various food, drinks etc. At one point before the gig starts we try to buy some more water and get a little stuck in understanding but a friendly neighbour translates for us. He introduces us to his gang and we have friends to hang with for the night. Before the gig starts we decide to go to the toilet - it was a nightmare getting in and out again but we eventually make it back to our new friends.
Tumblr media
And after ‘only’ being 40mins late Madonna is on. The crowd are going wild and it’s an amazing show. Overhead drones and helicopters are flying everywhere.
Unfortunately we haven’t planned enough food and water for tonight and about half way through Jack is feeling really unwell so we decide to leave. It was absolute HELL getting out of the crowd (later estimated at 1.6m people) but it was the best decision because if he had fainted in the crowd it would have been way worse. There was no pathway to get out and no medical staff around. We take an Uber home and the driver is a little scary - he is driving very fast with no lights on, and going through every red light but we make it.
Overall I’m super happy we experienced it and the buzz of the city but also glad we home some safe.

Trivia :

Re-release : 02/04/1978
Premiere : 12/24/1995 (TV dubbing)
There are two Brazilian Portuguese dubbings of this film. The first from 1951 and the second from 1995.
The first dubbing is the official dubbing and is available on all home video releases.
The recording of the 1951 dub only took 4 months. Gilberto Souto (the director, translator, and supervisor) arrived in Brazil on 04/21/1951 and returned to the USA on 08/02/1951.
On the 2000 U.K. DVD release, the Brazilian Portuguese 1951 credits are included but there are errors. Mattinhos is credited as "Estevam Correa Mattos" (which is his real name) as the White Rabbit. The Cheshire Cat was credited to José Vasconcellos, but in reality, he was voiced by Jorge Goulart. Goulart sued Disney in 1996 for royalties of his voice being used on the home video releases of Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. The King of Hearts is credited to João Dias Lopes, which is the real name of Germano. José Vasconcellos is also credited to the Mother Oyster, but in reality, she was voiced by Apollo Corrêa.
The second dubbing was done for the SBT television network for Christmas 1995 and was only shown on TV. This dubbing is not included on any home media release.
In the second dubbing, only one song was dubbed. That song being "I'm Late." This extract was treated as spoken dialogue and was dubbed. All of the other songs were in English with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.
