Still one of my favourite drawings, but I love the test sheet too. When I make commissions, I draw two identical outlines on the same acid-free paper. One sheet gets used to test everything & becomes like that damaged portrait in the Oscar Wilde book, while the other becomes the nice shiny final artwork. Once the finished piece has shipped, the test sheet is the part I get to keep. I return to these sheets again and again, to relearn ways to draw difficult subjects.

I live in the UK and probably won't ever meet the Californian wildlife in this drawing for real. So it was cool to get to research parasitic plants, fritillaries, etc from somewhere else in the world!

She simply comes first.

Do you ever see someone who feels like they are waaay too cool-looking to be walking around in your hometown of all places? I hardly live out in the sticks, but the gal who just walked past my bus looked like she was displaced from her native urban habitat of San Francisco or downtown Tokyo or... idunno, fucking Inkopolis. You just don't see that kind of casual badassery around these parts.

Oh hey, fun fact I just remembered: at the edges of your vision, you can see motion but not color.

Seems wrong, doesn’t it? There’s no black-and-white area to the sides. But that’s because your brain guesses and fills it in.

Here’s the test:

Get some squares of colored paper, or anything else that’s all the same size but different colors. Felt pens, DVD cases, whatever. Pick one without looking (or have a friend do it for you.)

Look straight forward, holding the thing out to the side and behind you, so you can’t quite see it yet. Move it forward until you do. Wiggle as necessary.

When you first see something moving, you won’t be able to say what color it is, and it will be maddening. You can guess! But it’s just a guess! Then when you look, you may be completely wrong!

It’s a fun game for parties, and blowing your friends’ minds.

We're in this weird limbo right now with rally ob. New rules are being developed to be closer aligned to the FCI RO rules, but the process is slow and pretty painstaking, and while it's still ongoing we have no trials to attend. And when we do get a chance to trial again I don't really know what exactly the new rules will look like, so everything’s a bit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ right now.

In the meantime, Kaija and I are just hanging out and having fun and making some lovely progress in training that may or may not end up being useful at some point. It's kinda nice having the pressure be off like this, and I'm trying to use our time in the rally limbo to work on my own attitude in training. Trying to get better at laughing off errors and backslides. I've struggled in the past with wanting to push through when my dog isn't getting it and with becoming flustered or frustrated bc we're in class and people are watching us etc etc etc. But pushing past what she's prepared for and getting frustrated when it doesn't really work has never actually helped. So I'm trying to just laugh and move on when mistakes do happen. And when something needs to be fixed, we fix it at home and then slowly bring it back to class, I don't worry about it in the moment.

I want to be as fair to Kaija as I can be while we're doing this silly little sport together, and not having any pressure to be trial ready in however many weeks is honestly really helping me stick with that mindset. Even when we fail spectacularly in front of everyone lol.

blade beloved <33 he's one of the main reasons (if not THE reason) I started to play hsr lol. Did a deep dive on his lore and hcq as a whole and I still love him to bits.. such a cool character in my opinion :33
