So much perfectly good scrap material gets thrown away during construction. Even like, unused nuts and bolts and random little hardware bits. Lengths of metal pipe that would cost real money if you tried to even get a sample of a similar material at a hardware store. Scraps of wood big enough to make something out of. Etc.
This is really upsetting to me because I know so much of this is just going into landfills and not long that—a lot of it is perfectly useable and stuff that crafters and artists usually have to pay money for!
Recently I have lowkey turned into a dumpster diver because there’s useable stuff thrown away in the big garbage bins in the construction zones of the library where I work. I’m a student and I don’t have money to buy materials for art projects!! Also I have an assignment at the library I work at to decorate our desks for holidays—however we have a budget of literally $0 so I have to use whatever random stuff is around. Even before this I once found this huge cylinder of construction-quality styrofoam that I’m making into a pretty cool little cushioned stool out of it.
TLDR: someone should start a system for construction zones to save useable scrap material and put it somewhere for poor local artists to sift through before it gets thrown away. It would help creatives save money AND keep a lot of construction waste out of landfills!

CFlo Fosters Sustainable Practices at the Decarbonisation Business Charter Event

14 September, 2023
CFlo recently participated in the Call for Action Event II on the Decarbonisation Business Charter in Bengaluru, affirming its commitment to decarbonize the construction sector by 2030. Here, we firmly believe that businesses should flourish "because of" sustainability efforts, not "in spite of" them.
India's robust construction and real estate sectors offer a unique sustainability opportunity, with projections showing India becoming the world's third-largest construction market by 2025, contributing 13% to GDP and reaching a US$1 trillion market size by 2030. Nevertheless, the sector's current 25% greenhouse gas emissions contribution, is expected to rise due to energy demands and unsustainable practices,
presenting a pressing challenge. In response, a consortium comprising WRI India, Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE), Mahindra Lifespaces Developers Limited, and EcoCollab have launched the Decarbonisation Business Charter for the construction sector. CFlo proudly stands as one of the signatories of this charter, marking its active participation for the second time in driving sustainable transformation to support India's growth. Our dedication to advancing sustainability aligns perfectly with the spirit of the Decarbonisation Business Charter, and we are excited about the possibilities that await on this journey.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is backing key activities this year. The charter's successful implementation necessitates the entire building and construction sector value chain to decarbonize, encompassing emissions associated with the production, transportation, and disposal of building materials, as well as the construction of buildings.
It covers four key aspects:
Designing net-zero buildings
Construction and operations
Occupiers' perspectives
Material efficiency
The Sand Grains Foundation, CFlo's CSR wing, stands resolutely committed to achieving a net-zero carbon footprint by 2023. Their ambitious objective includes planting 25,000 trees by 2025-2026, a substantial contribution to combat climate change and promote a healthier environment. Additionally, they have devised comprehensive plans to implement sustainable office practices, endorse non-carbon energy sources, invest in rainwater harvesting and recycling initiatives, and enhance green spaces within their Kolkata premises.
Nitin Dubey, Chief Revenue Officer, served as the company's representative at the event, reaffirming CFlo's steadfast dedication to this important cause. He underscored the significance of this matter, stating “As a climate-conscious organization, we recognize the significant influence of the construction value chain and multiple stakeholder categories on the success of this business charter. Therefore, this charter represents a unique opportunity for us to collaborate with industry players in mitigating the climate crisis within the construction sector.”
CFlo regards its participation in the Decarbonisation Business Charter event as an exceptional opportunity to catalyse profound transformation, with a resolute focus on combatting the climate crisis within the construction sector. This commitment goes beyond mere words; the entire team is deeply engaged in actively working towards a greener and more sustainable future.

the funniest thing about the ~i just don't know if mitch marner is worth it~ arguments is like... who is hitting free agency next year who would come to toronto in his place that you think would make this team that much better. like at least have an idea, lol. if you think 2 6 mil players are miraculously gonna bring more balance to this roster and bring in the production, pking abilities, defensive abilities, etc... who are they....... like this is not the sims. this isn't fantasy sports.. you don't get to just mentally pluck guys off teams you think produce for their value where they are and be like !! look how THAT player would be on this team when that's just not the case and who knows if they'd even come here beyond them nOT even being on the market. who knows if they'd perform as they do now. who knows what the TEAM vibes would be if you didn't extend him.... you see how rotten locker rooms can affect teams on ice right now in the league, lol.
i think most people are genuinely just mad at the use of the money outside of the core (rightfully so bc the way the leafs have used it in the past/are using some of it now... lol there are ways to be smart w your money and you need your depth to overperform a bit and we don't get that) and don't know where to channel it so much of the time. if the core make up over 50% of the cap and ALSO contribute over 50% of the production... are they not doing what you pay them to do. i get that playoffs are a different beast and blah blah but any team that wins the cup has ppl producing over their value and a lot of luck, man. there's no Blueprint for Winning a stanley cup to follow and it fills me with so much disdain to see people act like it's just Not Possible for the current leafs bc it's never happened before. like yeah and other teams haven't had this many high caliber players at once. every year is a new and different situation.
#playoff success isnt even linear bro........#anyway. its always worth it to overpay unique talent. always.#if 2 mil breaks ur roster construction#ur teams fucked anyway fjhdjsnk. like.#idk. we are getting some overperformance from guys like knies mccabe oel etc#but we're also wasting money w reaves domi mo (sorry love him want him here forever) etc#we overpaid willy a bit but everyone thinks thats worth it for a couple clutch goals in a singular playoff run like. and#ultimately it WILL be worth it but like ppl arre sooooo fickle without even---.#anyway rant over its just getting exhausting#there will never be another mitch in this franchise man. getting rid of him now makes ur team worse#in regular season and in playoffs. lol

What Types of Construction Materials Can Be Recycled?
The construction industry produces a wide range of materials, many of which can be given a second life through recycling. Here are some common materials that can be recycled:
Wood: Recovered timber can be reused in new building projects, turned into mulch, or repurposed for furniture.
Metal: Metals like steel, aluminium, and copper are highly recyclable and retain their properties indefinitely.
Concrete and Brick: These materials can be crushed and used as recycled aggregate in new construction or landscaping.
Plasterboard: Once separated from other materials, plasterboard can be recycled into new
Glass: Clear, tinted, or reinforced glass can be melted down and reformed into new products.
Plastic: Certain types of plastic used in construction, such as PVC piping, can be recycled into new building materials.
