Westchester Soccer Club Adds Three More Players For Their Inaugural Season in USL League One

Westchester Soccer Club today added three more players to their roster for their inaugural season in USL League One. The three, midfielders Bryan Vazquez and Andrew Jean-Baptiste and defender Joel Johnson, join a growing mix of veterans and young, athletic talent as WSC readies to officially open their first season on March 8 in Greenville, SC against Greenville Triumph SC with their home opener at The Stadium at Memorial Park against Rhode Island SC on April 27. All three contracts are subject to approval by the league.

‘One of the key elements of our club will be making sure we have both depth and experience, and our latest three signees continue to add to both areas for us,’ said Simon Baines, Sporting Director of WSC. “All three will fit well into the structure we are creating.”

The three newest players include:

Andrew Jean-Baptiste (Brooklyn, NY) joins Westchester SC with over a decade of professional and international experience, most recently as center-back for Valour FC. Baptiste starred at the University of Connecticut, earning 2011 Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year before being selected 8th overall by the Portland Timbers in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He played in MLS for Portland, Chivas USA, and the New York Red Bulls from 2012-2015, before heading abroad to join Swedish side Ettan Nyköpings BIS in 2016. In February 2019, Jean-Baptiste continued his European career until 2020, when he joined Canadian Premier League side Valour FC, where has played the past three seasons. Andrew has played internationally for both the Haitian National and US National teams in his career as well.

Joel Johnson Alajarín (Torrent, Valencia) is a right-back who spent the last eight seasons in USL League One, most recently for Charlotte Independence last season. Prior to his USL time, Johnson played on virtually every level of professional soccer in Spain, coming up through the club system of Valencia FC before joining Real Madrid C and then with Real Jaénand CD Buñol. He has also played internationally as a member of the Liberian National team since 2016.

Bryan Vazquez officially joins the professional ranks with the club having previously made one appearance as an amateur signing for FC Cincinnati 2 of MLS NEXT Pro during the 2024 season. The 18-year-old midfielder has previously made two appearances for the El Salvador U-20 Men’s National Team at the 2024 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

These are the newest additions to a roster that already include a strong group of Americans with USL experience, including: wing back Kemar Lawrence, fullback Samory Powder, midfielder Conor McGlynn and defender Stephen Payne and a trio of Dutch natives in midfielders Daniel Bouman, Dean Diego Guezen and striker Koen Blommestijn

Conor Thomas Rhodes was born to two amazing parents in Bridgeport, Maine. Conor was the oldest Rhodes kid, and the only boy which meant he got to help take care of his two little sisters. Conor wasn’t a softy; in fact, he was the opposite of a softy. He was always tough, he was the quiet, don’t fuck with me kid growing up. But when it came to Olivia and Rosemary, they had him wrapped around his finger from a young age and he was like a walking teddy bear when they were around. Family meant the world to Conor something his mother Leanne and father Malcolm instilled in him from a young age.

As a child he could always be found at the baseball field. He loved everything about the game of baseball. The boy was a natural at the game from a young age, and everyone swore up and down he was going to go pro. His favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees, and he even swore one day he’d be the biggest pitcher to ever play for them. With how well he played no one ever doubted him.

In high school, Conor was like the real-life Troy Bolton. He was a star on the field, but he was also a star off the field. Conor was born to two parents that had more talent in their pinky than most people do in their whole body. Conor inherited that and was performing every chance he could. He wasn’t a good dancer, which was a hard pill to swallow when you watched his sister and his mother. But boy could Conor sing, he had a voice like no other. Think if James Bay and Luke Combs had a vocal baby, you’d get Conor. He was also super talented with the guitar and piano. Everyone still thought he was going to go pro, and pitch in the MLB but as Conor got older the more, he realized he wanted to make music. Without telling anyone but his parents he applied to Drexel University, Berklee College of Music (Spain), Bellmont University, and Carnegie Mellon University. Fortunately for Conor he was accepted to all the colleges he applied to and with the support and love from his family he chose to attend Berklee College of Music in Spain majoring in Music Production.

While attending Berklee College of Music Conor met Mariana Gutiérrez a beautiful Spanish girl from the local café next to the college. Conor tried for months to get her to go on a date with him, and every time he asked, she said no. But he knew from the minute he met her she’d be the one he married. With no luck he’d call his sister Olivia daily for advice on what to do, and finally with the right words of advice he managed to get a date with her. Conor and Mariana continued to date for all four years of his time in Spain. After his graduation he accepted an internship at Universal Music Group in Los Angeles, Mariana leaving behind Spain and going with him.

After one year in an internship in Los Angeles, Conor was offered a permanent job at UMG as a board operator. If you asked Conor when he first graduated high school if he accepted to live away from home for this long, he would have said no. But he knew that he loved what he did, and he was meant to be here in this moment. Plus, he flew home for every holiday, all the birthdays and any vacation he went on was always to Bridgeport.

Conor and Mariana spent seven years in Los Angeles, when he was offered the head music producer position at Roofless Records in Miami. For the next seven years Conor and Mariana lived in Miami. He proposed to her and less than two weeks after proposing they found out they were pregnant. Everything was going great, they visited Bridgeport and they visited Spain before they had the baby, because they knew they wouldn’t be able to travel anytime soon after having the baby. The birth of their daughter came, and Mariana tragically passed during delivery. Conor’s heart broke into a million pieces, but he knew he had to be strong and hold his head up high for their beautiful little girl Elena (Shining Light) Olivia Rhodes because she was a shining light in the time of such darkness. Conor took Elena to Spain for the burial of Mariana, and so she could meet her mother’s family before heading home to Bridgeport to be close to his family.

Four years later, and he’s currently residing in Point Breeze with his four-year-old baby girl Elena. They say time heals the wounds, but Conor is still waiting for that time to come.

You stood in shock at Goodwin’s announcement that Archer was taking over the ED, Will had been reinstated and Nat had been fired. The entire ED staff was staring at each other, Will looking sheepish at the stares. Ethan had told you that he was planning on firing Archer, but now he was the head of the department? This was going to be an entire clusterfuck.

“Seeing as we’re all here, I wanted to say. I’ve been accepted to the Nursing Practitioner program, next Friday is my last day,” April spoke up, and you started the cheer for her. You knew how much she wanted to move up, and how much she deserved this.

By the end of the day you arrived home, flopping onto the couch and trying to call Nat. Your calls went to voicemail each time, and your nerves were high. But if she wouldn’t answer there was nothing you could do. Instead you pulled up your text chain with Connor.

The ED is officially a clusterfuck. Know anyone looking for a peds CT surgeon?

His response came back quickly

Ethan got shot, Will got fired, Nat admitted she did what Will got fired for and she got fired, Will got rehired. And Ethan’s old navy buddy who he was going to get rid of was just named head of the ED. So as I said, know anyone looking for a peds CT surgeon?

You stared at the text for a moment, confused, when a knock on your door sounded.

Open up!

You stood and looked out the spyglass, a very familiar dark haired man standing there.

“Connor!” He opened his arms for a hug, and you wrapped into them easily. He’d always given the best hugs.

“I missed you,” he said as you separated, and you saw the suitcase behind him.

“Come in, how are you? Why are you here even?” He came in, taking the beer you offered and sitting on the couch.

“Ethan asked me to. He said he needed someone with surgical skills in the ED, offered me an Attending job. I signed my contract last week, it was an easy decision.” You clinked bottles with him as you sat down, the two of you settling into an easy silence watching the movie on tv.

“Can I stay here tonight? I didn’t book a hotel, and I’ve missed you. I can find somewhere tomorrow to stay while I’m house hunting.”

It was a no brainier for you, your “of course” out of your mouth before you thought. It was Connor. And even with the feelings you’d had for him before, just being beside him and knowing he was staying in Chicago was the best thing.

“Did you tell anyone you were coming back?” You asked, turning around to see him properly. He had a small smile on his face, and for the first time since you’d seen him in person he finally seemed relaxed.

“Who else would I tell?”

“Will? He was your best friend.”

“He wasn’t the person I was most concerned about telling. I always felt awful for how we left stuff when I left. I know we talked, but I had a lot of regrets.”

You squeezed his hand, holding tight to him. “You’ve nothing to regret about us. Never. I know why you left, and I’d have done the same. Was I disappointed? Yeah, a little. But…you loved Ava. You were slowly building a relationship with your dad. And then both of them blew up. It’s fine, honestly.”

As you looked up at Connor the mood changed between you, tension growing. His fingers intertwined with yours, and he leaned down to kiss you. It was soft and unsure to start, but as he went to pull away you deepened it. Connor responded, his hands on your hips, lifting you up to straddle his legs. You ran your fingers through his smooth hair, feeling him shiver with your nails on his scalp. His hand went to your hair, tugging lightly and pulling your head back as he pressed kisses up and down your throat. Finally you separated for air, the emotions in his eyes nearly too much.

“I’ve wanted to do that for two and a half years. I should have done that before.” Connor pressed his forehead to yours, staring into your eyes.

“I thought we’d lost our moment. That we’d missed whatever we could have had.” You cupped his face, fingers against his well kept beard, your fingertips rubbing his cheek. “I’ve had feelings for you since…god, probably since Robin left. But you were my best friend. I didn’t want to ruin it.”

He kissed you again, a smile on his face as he did.

“It doesn’t matter, we’ve got it right now. I’m starting at Med in the morning again, come in with me?”

The next morning you walked into the ED, hand in hand with Connor. Maggie did a double take at him being there, and her eyes narrowed at your interlaced fingers.

“I’ve to go to Goodwin to get my paperwork done. See you at lunch?” He asked, and you smiled and squeezed his hand.

“As long as we’re not caught in a surgery, definitely.” You smiled up, getting on your tiptoes to press a kiss to his lips in goodbye.

You were in the lounge for twenty seconds when Maggie came in behind you. “What was that?!”

Westchester Soccer Club Announces First Three International Signings For Their Inaugural Season in USL League One

Westchester Soccer Club today announced their first three international signees for their inaugural season in USL League One, Dutch natives Daniel Bouman, Dean Diego Guezen and Koen Blommestijn. The three join a growing core of young, established veterans as WSC readies to officially open their first season on March 8 in Greenville, SC against Greenville Triumph SC with their home opener at The Stadium at Memorial Park against Rhode Island SC on April 27. All three contracts are subject to approval by the league.

‘We continue to look for young, athletic professionals who will be able to play at the highest level in the system we are building, and these three…Daniel, Dean and Koen…are great fits for our plan,’ said Simon Baines, Sporting Director of WSC. “Their knowledge of the game and their level of professionalism will complement the players with USL experience we have already signed, and should fit well in what is quickly becoming a very talented roster.”

The three internationals include:

Central midfielder and former Australian youth international Daniel Bouman (Blaricum, The Netherlands), who brings significant experience from his time in Australia's highest division, the A-league, as well as time spent in second league Greece and Australia's NSW, where his club was crowned champions. Most notably, the FC Groningen youth product was a mainstay with Australia's U23 side, registering 8 caps and 2 goals. Bouman holds both Australian and Dutch citizenship.

Midfielder Dean Diego Guezen (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) has logged professional seasons with Polish I liga club Zagłębie Sosnowiec, PEC Zwolle and TOP Oss and will be making his North American debut with Westchester SC. The 26 year old played in the youth departments of AFC, Ajax, ASV De Dijk and IVV before returning to AFC and subsequently moving to Feyenoord before beginning his professional career in 2020.

Striker Koen Blommestijn (Amstelveen, The Netherlands) Koen Blommestijn played in the youth teams of Legmeervogels , SV Argon , ASC Waterwijk and FC Almere before joining the amateur division of AFC Ajax in July 2019. He made his professional debut in February 2022 for FC Volendam, and has played professionally for Telstar, Quick Boys, and again last season for FC Volendam.

These are the newest additions to a roster that already include a strong group of Americans with USL experience, including: wing back Kemar Lawrence, fullback Samory Powder, midfielder Conor McGlynn and defender Stephen Payne.

The two of them often just walked into each other’s houses with little to no notice. It was typical, and Liv loved it. “I’m just kidding...or am I?” she teased, a laugh escaping her lips. “To what do I owe the pleasure? Did you just want to hang out with me?
