My short ‘…Ready For It?’ lyric analysis and how it’s definitely about Harry:

The line about the girls he had loved and left fits her description of him in the 1989 vault songs, especially ‘Is It Over Now?’ with the models and Taylor clones he has been sleeping with.

The haunted and ghost line?!?! That is a 1989 staple line, on reddit I saw someone making a whole ass data sheet about the amount of times she says ghosts-related terms in all of the albums and 1989 had the highest ratio/percentage compared to the rest. Also, Harry’s ‘Two Ghosts’?!?!?

Ghosts = haylor.

“Some boys trying to hard, he don’t try at all” = similar to lyrics in ‘Slut’, “In a world of boys, he’s a gentleman”.

“Younger than all my exes but is such a man” = Harry is her youngest ex (let’s pretend she forgot about Conor Kennedy and it wasn’t a true ex anyway). Joe is older than Harry. Checkmate.

Wildest dreams tea, also I had this theory that they secretly went to an island in 2016, when they still had their situationship going on.

Idk about that robber and heist line but it’s definitely not about Joe lol. Sounds like she’s painting herself as a criminal and him gladly joining along. Like… eloping. Or running away from a crime.

Burton and Taylor is about Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, known for their on-off intense relationship that spanned years. Is she talking about Joe, who she only knew at best for 6 months? (album was released Nov 2017 but she only got with Joe in Sept 2016 and she probably wrote the song earlier). OFC NOT.

The themes in this song does not match all the Joe-confirmed songs about him later too. We can only surmise, she’s singing about another dude.

‘Every love I’ve known in comparison is a failure, I forget their names now’ - Taylor’s being annoying and hyperbolic when she wrote this (don’t take her seriously) but yeah that’s why you are still writing about Harry in 2022 with Question..? and Maroon. Also I’m pretty sure she forgot about Conor, Calvin, Tom Hiddleston, and most of the dudes she dated before Harry.

Games = their on-off situationship. I said what I said.

BACKGROUND: 

Okay so this character does share a father with mine, here is what you need to know about Evil Witch Daddy: 

Please note this is like the sparks note version of this all.

Richard was married to the oldest child’s mother, but marriage life wasn’t really his thing so he had multiple affairs. Which in turn spawned a total of 6 children; all six are reference in age order below. Along the way Richard had started dabbling in dark magic, which he realized he could use to his benefit; he had plans to start a dark coven with his children. While he waited and grew crazier he always kept his plan in the back of his head. Well when he was passed over for supreme due to the ancestors realizing he was too far gone, he completely lost his shit. He got the idea to take out the ancestors and become his own supreme but of black magic. So Richard got the bright idea to make a sacrifice of his oldest and the child he loved the most so he could obtain the power. 5 of the children were present: The Oldest, The Twins (Half of them is my character), The Perfectionist, and the baby. Richard had them all present in cause the sacrifice called for more. Which during the sacrifice he almost went through with it until the moms showed up right before he could finish and saved the child. After that Richard was stripped of magic and expected to be put to death for his crimes, but he snuck out the night before he was suppose to be put to death. Instead of just leaving quietly he stole his youngest child and skipped down. Rather than look for the child The Firm covered it up along with the moms who feared if they angered Richard that he’d return and harm one of the other children or take them too. So Richard got away with the baby and the mother of the child was deemed crazy as everyone pretended they had no clue what she was talking about. The mother eventually ended up leaving the coven, she was never spoke about again. 

Meanwhile the other 3 moms: The Oldest, Twins, The Perfectionist moms all band together to protect their children. They all became neighbors, were each others support system as they tried to give their children the most normal life after the craziness that had happened. The coven sweep all of their dad’s antics under the rug completely and it’s basically some weird fever dream to them at this point. The moms constantly stuck by the story of the dad just took off, there’s never been anymore detail about him given in fear that one of the children would want to know him/locate him. Please note despite the dad’s actions being sweep under the rug all of the children were heavily watched by The Firm to see if they’d show any signs of being unstable like the father. 

Which when you bring it up to now James Binici informed all the Hastings of what happened with the coven memory whipping them. Which they would have confirmed with their respective mothers/other siblings (who were also memory whipped). The would have also found about out about their watchers which they had presently and that their mothers had reported on them in the past. 

Also please note Richard did die during Fight Fest Events, your character was present during his death. 

Sibling order and facts about each sib: 

The Oldest (Lucian) *** This is the sibling the dad tried to kill. Currently is the owner of Neon nights and shares the same powers as Richard. 

The Twins (Logan & Leo) *** Logan is the oldest twin and currently the supreme. Leo has turned and is a vampire. 

The Perfectionist (Your character) *** She was the one the coven picked and expected to take over after the previous supreme died. She’s the one who follows every rule and is down right a perfectionist. 

The Baby/Stolen (Livia Hastings) *** This is the child the dad took off with and the moms/coven pretend never existed. With the trauma of their childhood they probably have no clue about this sibling. 

Things for your character only: 

- For them and Logan growing up I’m guessing they were always pitted against each other since they were the only girls.  - Logan was hesitant about taking supreme since it seemed like it would be your characters dream, but it’s up to you if they actually wanted it or not.  - Side note if they did want supreme but lost it I would love for them to be on the Firm once Logan replaces it or have some active role in the coven! - I will say I did picture them studying insanely hard/being the best at magic in the family.

-Modern Ireland 1600-1972  and The Irish Story: Telling Tales and Making It Up in Ireland and Luck and the Irish: A Brief History of Change from 1970 by R.F. Foster

-States of Ireland by Conor Cruise O’Brien

-Inventing Ireland: The Literature of the Modern Nation by Declan Kiberd

-Armed Struggle: A History of the IRA by Richard English

-Ship of Fools, How Stupidity And Corruption Sank The Celtic Tiger by Fintan O’Toole There are other more comprehensive/formal histories of Ireland but I don’t usually like to recommend reference books like that in these circumstances.

2. Meaning of name "Liam" and "Emma"

Liam:

Liam's name is the name of a boy of Irish origin meaning "resolute protection".

Liam originated as the nickname of Uilliam, the Irish variant of William. William is an English name from German origin brought to Ireland when the British fled England after the conquest of Norman.

The Irish began to use English names, including William, which led to the development of Uilliam and its short form, Liam.

Liam is the top US boy's name for 2018, joining the elite group of names to top the list. Liam started out as a short form of William but has long stood on his own and for several years has become one of the most popular baby names for boys.

Now it is the fastest-growing Irish name in the United States, first entering the Top 10 in 2012 and before climbing to No. 1, holding No. 2 for four consecutive years.

Emma:

Initially, a short form of the German name beginning with the ermen element meaning "whole" or "universal". It was introduced to England by Emma of Normandy, who was the wife of King Ethelred II (and by him the mother of Edward the Confession) and later King Canute.

After the Norman conquest, this name became popular in England. It was revived in the 18th century, perhaps in part because of a poem by Henry Prior Henry and Emma (1709). In the United States, it ranked third in 1880 (after Mary and Anna were omnipresent).

It declined steadily over the next century, beginning another rise in the 1980s and eventually becoming the most popular name for girls in 2008.

At this time it also experienced similar levels of popularity elsewhere, including the United Kingdom (where it began rising a decade earlier), Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands.

Here’s what this bs article says:

Right on the dot at 8 a.m. this morning, Taylor Swift released the full audio to her second single, "...Ready For It?" after sharing a teaser last night. And, while Swift never names names, it would appear this song may be her very first about current boyfriend Joe Alwyn off of these lyrics. (Swift and Alwyn have been quietly dating for months so this would also be the first time she's spoken about him.)

Swift wrote the single with Ali Payami, Shellback, and Max Martin so of course, all their experiences may have inspired the final product. Here, the lyrics (via Genius) annotated with any references to him:

Last November, Swift was photographed leaving the screening for Alwyn's movie Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Alwyn literally plays a killer—private Billy Lynn—in the military film.

As Genius users point out, this idea of haunting an ex echoes the lyrics in Swift's "Wildest Dreams" ("Someday when you leave me/I bet these memories/Follow you around.")

Younger than my exes but he act like such a man so

Alwyn is just 26 years old. By comparison, Swift's last two boyfriends, Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston are 33 and 36 respectively. The "trying too hard" line could be a generic observation about what men have done to try to impress her or a subtle jab at what Hiddleston did (taking her all around Europe, wearing the "I Heart T.S. tank, etc. as they had a very showy romance.)

The "vendetta" could actually be hers against the media or anyone who paints her as a serial dater unable to keep a man ("I go on too many dates/but I can't make them stay," Swift sang in "Shake It Off," mocking this false characterization of her.)

Swift spoke about those people's mischaracterization of her love life when discussing "Blank Space" at the Grammy museum in September 2015. "It got pretty out of control there for a couple of years. ... Every article was like, 'Taylor Swift, standing near some guy—watch out, guy!'" she said. "My first reaction was to be like, 'That's a bummer. This isn't fun for me.' But then my second reaction ended up being like, 'Hey, that's actually a really kind of interesting character they're writing about. She jet sets around the world, collecting men, and she can get any of them ... but she's so clingy, so they leave and she cries and then she gets another one in her web and she traps them and locks them in her mansion and then she's crying in her marble bathtub surrounded by pearls.' So I was like, I can use this."

Swift has kept her romance with Alwyn very low profile. It wasn't reported they were dating until May, and at that point, The Sun reported it had been for several months(perhaps after she went to his screening in November, though they were spotted together as early as October. Outlets have tried to put together timelines, but none are confirmed.). Most recently, a source close to Swift told People that "her decision to keep her relationship with Joe quiet is making her happy."

The "i-island breeze" Swift is talking about could be a quiet vacation they took in a tropical paradise or just a veiled way of referring to England (and London), which is an island. Alwyn is British, and Swift spent an extended amount of time there in the U.K. during the spring while he was shooting his film The Favourite.

No matter how wild Swift's fantasies about him are ("in the middle of the night, in my dreams" is similar in tone to "Wildest Dreams" ("Say you'll see me again even if it's just in your wildest dreams")), Swift's assertion she takes her time matches People's recent report that she and Alwyn have "have been getting to know each other slowly without any pressure.” Her last romance with Tom Hiddleston, conversely, became very intense fast. (They were quickly meeting the others' parents weeks after first being photographed together.) She may be suggesting here that she learned that doesn't work for her.

A reference here to her serial dater reputation and the eight high-profile relationships that came before Alwyn (Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles, Conor Kennedy, Jake Gyllenhaal, and John Mayer).

Swift had a jailbird aesthetic in her "Look What You Made Me Do" music video.

Burton to this Taylor

A likely nod to legendary Old Hollywood couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Swift's way of saying she's completely over Harris and Hiddleston, even if they may not becompletely publicly.

This song seems to be Swift's first public comment on her and Alwyn. The two were photographed together by paparazzi for the first time in July before her Colorado trial. "Let the games begin" could be the game of love. But it could also be her saying let their public relationship begin and their dealing with the press coverage of it. She's serious about him.

Ready For It - lyrics anlysis

1- “Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him, wondering how many girls he left and left haunted” I think this line is a response to the general public’s constant tendency to scream “maybe you’re the problem!” and a satirical use of the topic she addressed in I Knew You Were Trouble, implying that she never learns and runs into relationships blindly, making it her fault that she’s getting hurt.

“I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now”, I Know You Were Trouble “a new notch in your belt is all I’ll ever be”, I Know You Were Trouble

2- “I know nothing better, I keep him forever, like a vendetta” This seems to be referencing to the love-crazy character the media portrays Taylor as, always falling head over heels for everyone she meets. She is also often blamed for relationships ending because she was “coming on too strong”

3- “Touch me and you’ll never be alone” While this line appears to be implying sensual activities at first glance, I believe she means it in a more eerie way - if a person is thought to be romantically involved with Taylor, they will not be left alone by the media or paparazzi until the relationship has ended, and maybe long after.

4- “In the middle of the night, in my dreams, you should see the things we do” This, also, sounds rather sexual at first, but I was wondering if she might just be referring to regular, every day activities that she can’t partake in and that therefore can never be part of her relationships because of her fame and her constantly being in the public eye.

5- “Me, I was a robber, first time that I saw him, stealing hearts and running off and never saying sorry” Taylor has been the punchline of countless jokes about snatching helpless men and being a man-eater. “You know what Taylor Swift, you stay away from Michael J. Foxes son.”, Tina Fey said at the Golden Globes in 2013, receiving nothing but praise for it. The line could be referring to this particular part of her publicly perceived character that has invaded her life ever since the start of her career.

For many of her relationships, there have been rumours about the couple moving in together, and almost all of them were followed by saying how crazy and unable to take things slow she is. Oh, and she’s also really rich and greedy, of course.

7- “Burton to this Taylor” Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton lead a relationship that received a lot of media coverage, even back in the day, and got a lot of criticism, much like all of Taylor’s relationships do. Especially Elizabeth was very infamous for her love life, having been married eight times. Their relationship was also very on and off, so she might be hinting towards the same topic she addressed in songs like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and Style.

8- “Every lover known in comparison is a failure, I forget their names now, I’m so very tame now, never be the same now” (see 2) This might be addressing how almost every time Taylor is dating someone, wild speculation ensues and a source somewhere claims she’s certain that this is the right person and that she’s sure this time, painting an image of the same impulsive, naive, clueless young girl. I see another parallel to Blank Space here.

“Taylor trusts Clavin more than anyone she’s ever met, and she’s ready to take the next step(..)”-Hollywood Life, 2015 (yes, it actually says Clavin) “Be that girl for a month”, Blank Space

“No one has to know” This line seems kind of sarcastic to me, since clearly, everyone does have to know, it’s inevitable with her lifestyle, and she continues to disprove this very lyrics throughout the rest of the song. “Let the games begin” I believe this refers to the never ending cycle of the media coverage and publication of Taylor’s life, and how it has almost become a game; one which, in my opinion, she seems to perfectly describe in one of her previous songs, I Know Places.

Conclusion: This is another satirical song about the media, not a love song.
