The parents of separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia appealed to the State government to return home in Odisha.The father of Jaga-Kalia Bhuyan Kanhara requested the government for making arrangement to shift the twins from AIIMS in New Delhi to a hospital in Odisha.As the couple has been staying in the AIIMS New Delhi in the past over a year, they are craving to meet their two other children, who are at Milipada village in Kandhamal district.Sources said that the parents need permission from the State government for their return to Odisha from AIIMS New Delhi.As both Jaga and Kalia have recovered from their post-surgery complications, the parents, who are away from their village for one and six months, now want to return home.They want Jaga and Kalia to be shifted to the SCB Medical & Hospital in Cuttack or AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further treatment.Worth mentioning, both Jaga and Kalia are undergoing treatment at country’s premier medical institution in New Delhi following their successful surgery.In a recent report to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), the AIIMS said that Jaga and Kalia are clinically fit for discharge from the hospital.However, the discharge date is yet to be finalised.The craniopagus conjoined twins hailing from Milipada village in Kandhamal district were separated by a team of doctors after a 21-hour-long surgery in October last year. Odisha’s separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia, who are currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, are now clinically perfect, said a report submitted by the hospital to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST).The report further stated that no cranioplasty (neuro-surgical operation) is needed on the duo for next five years and the two can be discharged from the medical. Another video of separated conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia showing them in a playful mood at AIIMS in New Delhi was released by the hospital authorities. The twins, who are undergoing treatment following a complicated and rare surgery at New Delhi based premier medical institution to separate them, appeared in the video playing together. In the new video, the two kids are having oil massage on their body and they are enjoying it fully. While Jaga is playing with Kalia, the later appeared without special helmet for the first time. For the first time, the duo is given oil massage following the surgery. Sources said that Jag and Kalia are improving slowly and they are enjoying each other’s company. The duo had celebrated their first birthday at AIIMS on April 9 after surgery. The separated conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia will celebrate their first birthday after surgery. Although, today is the third birthday of Jaga and Kalia, but their parents are preparing to celebrate their children’s birthday as the first birthday after they were separated in October last year. Sources said that the birthday of Jaga and Kalia, who are undergoing treatment at New Delhi based AIIMS, will be celebrated not in grand way. It will be low key affair at AIIMS. The birthday of conjoined twins, who got new life after being successfully separated by efforts of AIIMS doctors team and by the grace of God, will be celebrated this time, said Bhuyan Kanhara, the father of Jaga and Kalia. Earlier, the AIIMS authorities had made arrangements for celebration of Christmas and New Year for the twins after their surgery for separation. The health condition of the newly separated conjoined is stated to be improving. Wearing new colourful clothes with fancy caps on their heads, separated conjoined twins of Kandhamal, Jaga and Kalia celebrated the New Year with their parents and doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi. The pictures of their celebration released by the hospital authorities showed Jaga sitting on his father’s lap while his brother Kalia was seen beside his mother. Neurosurgeon Ashok Mohapatra and another senior doctor of the surgery team were present to celebrate the New Year with the twin brothers. Hospital sources said Jaga’s condition is improving beyond expectation while Kalia is showing signs of considerable improvement. Both the children will remain under medical observation for three more months, AIIMS authorities had recently announced. The twins were separated by a team of doctors at the premier health institute of the country after an 11-hour-long surgery on October 25, 2017. While people of Odisha are praying for speedy recovery of conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia who were recently separated at AIIMS in New Delhi, one more conjoined twins were born in Nayagarh district. A woman gave birth to twin baby girls joined at stomach at Khalipatana near Sarankula on Friday. The twin newborn girls were shifted to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for treatment. According to reports, Sumitra Dutta (22) was admitted to a private clinic in Nayagarh in the morning yesterday following labour pain. She delivered the twins, who are joined at stomach. The babies were born at around 8 pm. Following the delivery, a huge crowd gathered outside the clinic to see the conjoined girls joined at stomach. However, the doctors referred the twins to be admitted to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack for better treatment as their condition was not well. The state government has assured to bear medical expenses of newborn twins joined at stomach. “The government will bear medical expenses of the conjoined twins and treatment outside the state will be made if required,” said Health Minister Pratap Jena who visited Sishu Bhawan to review health condition of the newborns in Cuttack today. The father of the conjoined twins Kishore Kumar Dutta of Khalipatna village under Sarankula police limits seeks government assistance that was made in case of Jaga-Kalia for surgery. “The doctors are looking after the baby girls since last night. The condition of one is stated to be down. I am hoping for the best,” Kishore told media persons in Cuttack. Kishore is a security guard at a private firm and does not earn much and can’t even contemplate such a costly operation. “I am getting about Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per month. I can’t save my babies with the meagre amount. If the government helps my daughters as they did in the case of Jaga-Kalia, it would come as a blessing,” said the devastated father, with tears rolling down his cheeks. Sumitra said she hopes her twins would be saved with the blessings of God. “It would have been better if I would had been blessed with two daughters. Now it is up to God as to what will happen to my twins. I hope a miracle happens as it was for Jaga and Kalia,” she added. Notably, Kandhamal conjoined twins Jaga-Kalia, who were joined at head, were recently separated by a team of doctors at AIIMS following two surgeries. While the condition of Jaga is found better, Kalia is now out of ventilator. The prayers poured in for the wellbeing of the separated twins following two major surgeries. Jaga, one of the separated conjoined twins of Kandhamal continues to show strong signs of improvement as he has started moving his hands and legs freely and is also playing with his favourite toy ball. A mobile video shot inside the general ward of AIIMS New Delhi, where Jaga is under treatment showed him playing in his mother’s lap with a ball showing significant signs of improvement. Presently, Jaga is able to consume rice, dal and eggs with ease and also likes to listen to music on his father’s mobile, said sources. Meanwhile, his twin brother, Kalia is yet to get out of the ICU as his condition is slowly improving and may need a few more days to come out of ventilator support. Doctors at the AIIMS have been closely monitoring each development in both the twins following their two-stage separation surgery earlier last month. The conjoined twins were separated after a marathon surgery that lasted around 11 hours at AIIMS on October 25. A special team comprising 20 surgeons including four Odia doctors and 10 Anesthesiologists led by AK Mahapatra and other paramedical staff successfully conducted the separation surgery. Jaga was taken off ventilator support on November 1 and was moved to the general ward of the AIIMS two days later. However, Kalia who had episodes of epileptic fits showed little signs of improvement in health due to impact of medicines, doctors said. While Jaga, one of the separated conjoined twins of Kandhamal district, has started taking diet orally and showing signs of improvement, Kalia’s condition on the other hand is unpredictable, AIIMS, New Delhi officials informed in a press release. As per the release, Jaga is happy on his mother’s lap and responding to music but Kalia’s condition is still unpredictable. “Kalia is still in Neuro ICU. He has shown some improvement in movement of limbs but he will stay in ICU as is condition is unpredictable,” the release said. Earlier some plastic surgery was conducted on Kalia by a surgeon from Coimbatore. A daily report on condition of Jaga and Kalia is prepared and is studied by experts, based on which their treatment and medication are decided, informed sources. The current phase after the separation surgery of the duo is believed to be crucial. Meanwhile, the twins will be under supervision of AIIMS doctors for two more months, added sources. With the entire Odisha praying for speedy recovery of Kandhamal twins Jaga and Kalia whose heads were separated on October 26 at AIIMS in New Delhi, the government-run hospital gave the State a good news as Jaga was today taken off ventilator. Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena told reporters after speaking with the AIIMS doctors about the health condition of the twins. “I am very happy to inform you that Jaga has been taken off ventilator support and is breathing normally. Besides, he is responding well to his mother. He will be shifted to general ward in next three days,” said Jena after meeting the kids in the ICU. He said, though, Balia is still in the ICU, he is stable. The doctors are closely monitoring his health. AIIMS-Delhi Neurosciences Centre Chief, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, also informed media about the health condition of the separated twins. “Jaga has been taken out of ventilator support today and he is responding his mother well. He will be shifted to the general ward once he starts eating,” said Mohapatra expressing satisfaction over the way the twins are recovering since the critical surgery. Explaining further, the Odisha-born renowned neurosurgeon said: “Balia was weaker than Jaga. He still continues to be in a state of unconsciousness as he has been suffering from fits. He is feeling drowsy as sleeping pills had been given to him. However, he is responding to the treatment and shaking his hands and legs even being unconsciousness and we hope his condition will improve in the next few days.” The twin’s mother Pushpanjali Kanhara, for the first time after second phase surgery, met her sons in the ICU. “I thank all doctors at AIIMS and Odisha government for whom surgery on my children was successful. I pray the almighty Lord Jagannath to shower his Divine blessings on my children,” the mother of the twins said with a choked voice. The twins hailing from Kandhamal district were separated following a 16-hour-long surgery at the AIIMS in New Delhi.
